French Onion Soup
Kristine S.

Was so excited to check this classic diner out. This diner is a dive but for me some of the best meals have been had at dives unfortunately this was not one of them. The food was OK but nothing great. The french onion soup was bland and oily. They did bring around a Mexican menu and maybe that would have been better than traditional diner food. Unfortunately, we order the more traditional meal choice. The Service though was wonderful and staff were friendly and attentive. Diner needs some TLC and clearly should its age but it was fun to see and experience.

I love this place! My boyfriend and I come all the time. The food selection is awesome. The staff is incredible and the food is delicious. Super cute old-timey feel inside. 10/10 recommend

Cozy diner, warm staff, delicious bites. Best onion rings in Albany! Can't wait to try more food.

Cup of black coffee on a cold Albany day: the taste wasn't the best ever - but decent (4 star)

Jack's is an Albany staple. It's got new managers. The food is just a little too dry for anything but a four star rating. My burger was stale and it had no toppings! No side, either... Jack's has a nice silver and red streamline shell but the food needs a new Chef; or the Chef needs new inspiration. The cole slaw floated in a water. The coffee was pasty. If the kitchen can't do a simple American burger - what's the happs, sisters?? I am seated on ripped seats.. Step it up managers! Get with the real culinary program. Review: 4

Pupusa

I was pleasantly surprised with Jack's diner! We ordered chilaquiles verdes, chicken chimichanga omelette, and a pupusa revuelta. Everything was delicious, and came out quickly. Will add more details to this later!

While you expect a true Diner to be a bit rough around the edges and need a little TLC, Jack's Diner in Albany just felt a bit gross. Everything was sticky and seemed in poor repair, taped up signs, servers that just weren't interested in serving and food which was pretty bland. Was it passable for what it was? Sure. But I couldn't see myself returning.

Eggs over with corn beef hash

I visit this diner every single time I have a business trip to Albany. Been coming here for over 10 years. It is truly a throwback diner experience with the look, the great service, the delicious piping hot food and extensive menu. I have had breakfast including eggs over home made corn beef hash with toast and potatoes, it's all just good. They are expanding their menu to include authentic latino dishes like birria tacos and I can't wait to try that next time. The is a must stop on you way through Albany!

Welcome to Jacks.

Jack's. The best breakfast spot in town. Great breakfast deals and friendly service. Get there early on weekends. They do get busy.

The gritty nature of the environs only serves to make the entire dining experience more memorable. Try the French toast.

Long wait in an empty diner while they swept the floors. Uneventful food. Not sure why this place is as highly rated.

As I finished my meal, an off-duty staff member came into the diner with her Shih Tzu puppy. She sat 2 chairs from me at the counter and actually put the dog right onto the same counter I was eating at. The other waitresses all came up to hold and pet the dog, taking selfie's etc. And, I directly witnessed them returning to the floor to touch peoples plates, glasses and silverwear after touching the dog without washing their hands. One waitress used hand sanitizer after I said something but most certainly would not have if I had remained silent. They saw I was upset and started calling it a 'service dog'. The staff said they were not allowed to ask for paperwork to prove it. Service dog my ass. It was a puppy, too young to have been trained as a service dog of any kind. It was not wearing the identifying harness that service dogs wear. Service dogs are not supposed to be approached by strangers because they are working dogs. AND service dogs certainly belong on the floor in a restaurant and not ON THE SAME COUNTER CUSTOMERS EAT THEIR FOOD AT. I left a $5 tip for an $8 meal because my waitress did not participate with the puppy. I won't EVER be back. They'll be lucky if I don't report this to the health department.

For context, I rate products and businesses on a simple scale: 5 stars means I love it, 4 stars…read moremeans I like it, 3 stars is okay, 2 stars means I didn't like it, and 1 star means I hated it or think it's unsafe. I've been coming to 76 Diner for years, going back to my college days, and while I don't get over to that part of Latham as often anymore, I still make it a point to stop in a few times each year. I will say a while ago they changed their menus. I used to enjoy the older version with some information about the presidents of the United States. Probably silly of me but I enjoyed reading that and it went along with the '76 name. I'd like to see something similar to that come back on future menus. It's a large place, so there's rarely much of a wait, if any, and the parking lot is big enough that finding a spot is never an issue. On this visit, we were seated quickly, greeted promptly, and our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Any time I've been here it's always nice and clean. This time was no exception. Any time I've been in the restroom, it has always been clean as well. The service stood out, our waitress checked in several times to make sure everything was good and see if we needed anything else without being overbearing. Everything we ordered tasted great, and the desserts were just as good. This has been a reliable spot for me for a long time, and this visit was no different. 5 stars

Yes, we've been doing this for over fifty years, and once again we were satisfied with our meal as we departed satiated. I ordered the Big Breakfast ($13.49) comprised of two pancakes (instead of one French toast), two eggs, and bacon (instead of either sausage or ham). That's quite reasonable since we paid $9.99 ten years ago. I did opt to add an order of home fries on this visit for an additional 35 cents. My wife decided to have a Create Your Own Omelet ($10.99) with cheddar cheese and spinach (plus an additional 35 cents for that second item in the omelet), served with home fries and toast. Bottomless cup of coffee is $3.99. The pancakes were large and very light and fluffy considering how thick they were. I would have liked them to have been served hotter, which, coincidentally, is what my wife also said about her omelet. But the pancakes were tasty and satisfying. The hashbrowns were a good mix of some soft and some crispy potatoes. The over easy eggs I ordered came out perfect and the bacon was crispy the way I like it. Overall, a pleasant meal that we didn't have to cook at home. Our server was very welcoming and friendly.

You've driven by it a hundred, maybe a thousand times. "A place that can only be described as…read morenondescript." - Anthony Bourdain. Stop in, check your ego at the door. Working man's Watervliet gem! The kind of place, like Ralph's in Colonie, where the locals eat but don't tell you about because they want to keep it to themselves. Stuck in a Time Warp in the nicest way possible. Red glitter Formica and retro photos of Watervliet history abound. A simple unassuming 24-hour diner on the railroad tracks where everything could go right. And does. For starters, there really is a "Bob" and family waitstaff, warmly welcoming you to their humble establishment. Want your bacon crispy? I always describe mine as "if you dropped it it would shatter". The owner assured me she has a "burn it" button for customers of my ilk. My experience is breakfast for lunch, twice. But, like your typical diner, they have just about everything, anytime. Did she say pierogies? Be still my Polish/Ukrainian heart! But I digress, as I am wont to do. Go ahead. Park your car in the adjacent parking lot and tell me you can't envision Guy Fieri pulling up in his Camaro convertible doing the same.
