I am writing to express my profound disappointment regarding my final experience at Jackie's today. For 20 years, I have been a loyal customer, bringing items in for tailoring and referring countless friends to your business. I dropped off three items for tailoring one week ago and paid for the services in advance. I was instructed to return today to pick them up. Upon arrival, the associate presented my items and informed me that I owed an additional $35 because she had forgotten to include one of the necessary services for a dress on my original ticket. She then stated that I would not be allowed to take my clothes until this additional charge was paid. The $35 charge increased the total cost for this single, casual dress to $85. Given that this was the staff's error, I believe the business should have absorbed this cost, especially since I had already paid $50 for the tailoring--a price point that already made me question if the inexpensive dress was worth the investment. Furthermore, my phone number was clearly on the ticket, yet no one contacted me to approve the price increase or ask if I wished to proceed with the work at the new rate. As a result of this experience, which was caused by the new management's oversight and poor customer service, this was my last visit to Jackie's. read more

I was recommended to go to Jackie's Alterations by a friend. I went to the one in Irmo. I wanted a zipper taken out of a dress and a lace up back put in. At first I was confident in the work they could do based off my conversation with the woman at the store. The service was $100 plus I had to pay for the piece to be sewn in. I thought that was a bit overpriced but this is my rehearsal dinner dress and was willing to spend the money. I ordered the piece with the woman at the store to get her guidance on what piece and color. When I picked up the dress, I noticed the lace up was not the same color of the dress at all. Completely 2 different shades of white, honestly it didn't look good. I brought it home and tried it on again, tried to sit with it for alittle bit but I still really did not like it. I called the store to express my feelings about it and really the only thing she said was I'd have to pay another $100 to get another color put in that would match.. To me, if I was a professional and noticed the piece that my customer ordered was a completely different color from the dress, I would give them the courtesy in letting them know that before installing it into the dress. At least offer to fix it without taking another $100 from them, that's just a scam in my opinion. Also, the dress was done way earlier than expected, which is great. But when she told me the dress was in she didn't tell me I needed to bring 2 people to lace up the dress. Thankfully I had people with me but if I'm going to need 2 people to lace up with dress every time I put it on, I feel like that should be said. I just picked up my pants that are part of my wedding outfit for granddaughter wedding and they did a wonderful job with getting them the way I needed them to fit in the waist. They fixed them in a very reasonable time and they look just great. I am so pleased with their work and recommend them to everyone who needs an alteration expert!! The lady who works there (I don't believe I asked for her name) is super nice and has a good sense of humor. I started coming to Jackie's 10 years ago. They've always been so nice and helpful. Pants, suits, backpacks, pillows, gloves.... They've fixed many things for me. I brought them belts and shoes some times. I like the atmosphere also. They have a 35-year-old asparagus fern, which is almost as old as the shop. My family go here for alterations. I have used Jackie's alterations, this particular location on Saint Andrews Road to be exact, for several years now. I am not a wealthy man, but do enjoy fine quality fabrics, so, what is one to do if unable to facilitate the ownership of said goods at a price that one can afford more reasonably?? The answer is as simple as seeking out a professional Taylor, and practice that has fallen to the wayside in our post consumer Internet marketing society. I am, for my part in this review, neither young nor old, but consider myself more practical than my age should afford me. The preceding was just Acacian for following statement: I have never looked so good in my appearance than after The alterations that Jackie's provided for me. Let's take it a step further however, let me appeal to that Avenue that I hold dearly and consider that you, the reader, may as well, and that is simple economics. Consider the following example, based off of actual numbers, for reference. They have this review, 19th February, I arrived to Jackie's to retrieve a pair of Hilti Denim slacks that I had height adjusted (And just for reference, the alteration to the legs or a custom height was $10, replacing those pants with a proper length, would've been $250, which is also substantially higher than I paid for them to begin with). I have a pair of Lauren gray-wool micro-plaid slacks my mother bought as a present for me some few year back. They were nearly full price, and for that line and being at Belks, it was closer to 200 for them. She insisted, so now I have pants that hang in my closet due to passive body realignment (I think I just made that up, but use it if you want. It basically means weight-loss through dynamic lifestyle assessment and restructuring) As I am unwilling to throw a side such an expensive gift from I had someone to whom I care so much about. I considered, only yesterday as I'm cleaning through my closet's for what I still wear and don't, That I really like these pants but cannot wear them as they are. So, while retrieving one pair of pants, I inquired on the other pair as well. I knew for good and well that a professional tailor would be able to do anything that has excessive material that was needed, so I preemptively carried shoes, with a heel profile that most closely matches what I would normally wear with the pants, along to the alteration shop. Not only was I happy about the suturing of the waist, but the buttocks is also being tightened to extend the appearance of my legs (which already appear short, due to the cut in the inner thigh of most pants) and the length of the legs were also shortened to discourage baggage around the ankles. These pants are now going to be cut and laid to my exact dimensions, will look perfect on me, and all for $26 bucks. Whatever price you would pay for alterations you would need would not be more expensive then to replace the clothing in the first place I assure you so consider taking that before making the decision to refuse and replace, but instead, give that wardrobe a new lease on life while helping out your community and saving more than a few bucks while having an outfit that you can honestly say is made for you. read more

Took a semi formal dress for a homecoming dance to the Irmo location to be taken in because it was too big. They called the day I was supposed to pick it up saying they needed 2 more days due to all the beading. I was fine with that. When I went to pick it up, they had not done all the alterations. They needed a few more hours to finish it; again I was okay with that and understand things happen. Came back a few hours and they had altered the wrong side so I had to wait. This was okay not a biggy but I was starting to worry. When we got the dress home and my daughter tried it on, it was too SMALL. The event is the next day. So disappointed in their service and will never be back. There is a 1.5" gap from the top of the zipper to the eye hook. If she hooks the eye hook it's too tight and she can't breathe. Had an incredible experience at Jackie's. I brought in my wedding dress for a Hindu ceremony - a complicated garment with a lot of moving parts and very delicate fabric. They were able to accommodate my tailoring needs where other local tailors were not, and the final product fit me like a GLOVE. I used Jackie's Alterations in Irmo for several years, mostly to get my children's pants hemmed and Scout patches sewn for both my sons and husband and me as Scout leaders. Although there was sometimes a language barrier, I considered the service acceptable and their location is convenient to our home. THEN, I took my son's Boy Scout uniform shirt in to have patches sewn on (which they had done before). I was EXTREMELY SPECIFIC about where each patch needed to be placed (with WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS) and even provided DETAILED DRAWINGS to illustrate the placement of each patch just in case there were any language issues. When I went to pick up the shirt, I WAS HORRIFIED! They had completely screwed up the shirt, sewing nearly every one of the 8 total patches in the wrong place! Also, one of the larger patches had obviously been ripped out and re-sewn, as the patch (which I had purchased brand new) was visibly very damaged. When I complained to who I believed to be the owner (or at least the manager), she called the employee who had done the order out front and spoke to him in another language in front of me. They claimed that the employee could not speak any English. I was shocked when this woman DEFENDED this employee 100% and blamed the screwed up shirt on me! She even said to me that the employee claimed that the large patch he damaged was in that condition when I brought it in! I told her that the shirt as well as every patch were brand new, she chose to believe the employee. I have NEVER seen a business owner or manager react to a customer's complaint in this manner! The fact that she was willing to lose a very loyal customer by essentially calling her (me) a liar to my face and in front of an employee was all I needed to know! I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS HERE AGAIN!!! I don't know anything about any of the other Jackie's locations, if they still exist, but I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING BUSINESS WITH JACKIE'S ON SAINT ANDREWS ROAD!!! read more

Jackie was nice however, I needed a buttons replaced on a pair of pants and it fell off the day I attempted to wear them. I also had some top stitching repaired on a pair of pants but it was only partially done. I didn't take them back because I did not want to wait another week. read more

This place is amazing! They stayed open late because my zipper broke on a bridesmaid dress I was trying on at home the day before the wedding. They fixed the dress right there for me and it was very reasonable. They do amazing work! read more

I took my wedding dress to Jackie's to be taken in & hemmed. I had 2 fittings & was completely happy with the outcome! I then decided to change the shoes that I was planning wear so I needed the dress to be slightly shorter. I called Jackie's made an appointment & went back. Now I'm super in love with my dress!! I took 4 pair of pants in. My husband had a pair to have the cuff put back in, and a repair to the waistband of one pair. I had 2 pair both needing to be hemmed. The cuff was fine and one pair of my pants the hem was fine. However, the repair to the waistband was done terribly so that it is visible and very poorly done. The other pair of my pants were not even touched. The were returned to me not done after paying $7 for a hem. To make matters worse when we picked up the 4 pair of pants they wreaked of cigarette smoke. We will not be using Jackie's again! read more

My daughter and I went in to have her wedding dress and my maid of honor dress hemmed, the young lady that took care of my dress did a great job and was very nice. The larger white lady (sorry don't know her name) was working on my daughters wedding dress and was going to put multiply some hems underneath the entire dress to bring it up 4 inches, I told her that when my daughter walked all you would be able to see were the hems and she was adamant that no one would see anything. She argued with me and spoke to me like I was a child, it took 45 minutes but we came to an agreement on how she would do the dress so the stiches would not be noticeable. We went in to pick up the dresses and mine was perfect but my daughters was all but ruined, the women had done exactly what I had told her not to do and the results were exactly what I had said would happen. When she walked the dress showed nothing but a dozen inch long hems all over the front of her dress, she likes to use this method then have the person stand in front of the mirror and not move so you can't see what she has to your dress. She are argumentative when I told her that she did the exact opposite of what we had discussed and if she couldn't do the work why claim she could. While waiting I heard another customer had the desk say that she had already brought an item in for repair and that they only completed half the work. I am sure that most of the employees in this store are capable and do great work but the larger white women has not seamstress skills or listens to the customers. I would say stay clear of her not necessarily the shop but do not let her touch your clothing. read more
