Good Afternoon every one, Here is yet another review. This is one about an extra charge to the bill. It is not much for this bill that I am discussing, however it is not the only time and can add up. On July 2, 2026, I had placed an order for a pick up. The order was for Beef with mushrooms and a choice of white or brown rice. I had chosen brown rice. The order was $13.95. When I arrived to pick it up, the price was $17.07. When I questioned , the charge, we had a discussion about a $2.00 charge for brown rice. The choice was on the menu, nothing about an extra charge. The woman basically did not want to hear it and explained that there a a different way to cook brown rice. It did not taste great. She did not go by the guest is right ritual. Nothing I could do since I had already paid. This is not the first time that Jack Chen had done this, there was a time about a delivery charge and a tip etc, I don't have the receipt so I will not get into that. There was a time I had went to order and my order was only like 12 and change, The woman on the phone said oh no you have to order more we don't deliver until it's 13 dollars. Of course I did not order. My wife used to do all the ordering and picking up until recently, so if she had put up with this boy oh boy, could you imagine? We had been customers for many of years. January 2 was the last time that I will step foot into that place Don't get me wrong. The food is decent and sometimes actually real good, depending on what you order. Below are a couple of pictures of the proof showing that I had an option and the receipt that I had to pay an extra two dollars for rice. I did not get an apology. I did not get a deduction. I did not get anything except the food that I ordered, so in my opinion that is just outright ripping me off so make sure that you check your bill each time. I've been going here since 2007. This place is horrible since the new owners took over. The prices have climbed over 100%. I know that things are more expensive but not to this point. Tonight I ordered dinner, picked it up. I get home and part of dinner is missing. I call them back and I am told the manager/owner would call me back. That didn't happen. I call them back and was given multiple excuses. Maybe the health department and ICE should pay them a visit. Jack Chen's was my go to Chinese takeout restaurant, for the food was always very tasty. I can no longer say that after my last order. Everything was not good--the wonton soup tasted more like oil, the steaK with onions and peppers was supposed to be in a brown sauce instead it was in an overly sweet tomato sauce, the Mongolian beef left an unpleasant after taste in my mouth, and the fried rice was hard as a rock. Even though when I told her (Stephanie), what my address she was she was able to read off what my order was. Jack Chen II has decent Chinese American food, as with most Chinese restaurants owned by Cantonese or Fujianese, once they stray from their own classic dishes into szechaun, Hunan or Shanghai the flavors are okay but authenticity is completely lost. Still in all, this little take out restaurant is worthy of a stop by if you are in the area. A very nice pleasant lady at the counter takes you order and food is delivered very quickly. I have a Jack Chen's closer to me so I would go there on most occasions, it is nice to know that quality is similar in both places. read more

We've been eating there for years. Recently some of the food hasn't been very good. The last 3 takeout orders have been very disappointing. Yesterday I got a dinner with General Tso chicken, fried rice, chicken wing, 2 beef sticks and crab Rangoon. The pieces of chicken were hard. Crab Rangoon had very little filling. The fried rice was tasteless.. The beef sticks were good but sometimes they aren't cooked enough or over cooked. The chicken wing is always good. My daughters like hot & spicy food. I won't eat it. They got Szechuan lo mein and I requested extra hot & spicy as I always do. Yesterday it was so mild that even I didn't find it spicy. My daughter and I had upset stomachs after eating it. Bad shrimp I think. It's time to find a new place for Chinese food. read more

Finding vegetarian/vegan options in Springfield isn't easy. The veg. Menu here is pretty extensive and the food tastes above average, but after the 2nd time getting sick from the general tsos, and orange soy-chicken, I'm done. Not a little stomach ache, I mean seriously ill. Is there flagrant cross contamination? What exactly are those meatless patties and nuggets made of? Do they fry the animal meat in the same machine? Are they using a beef or chicken stock base for the sauces? I've had similar dishes at Chinese places across New England and never once got sick. Id rate Jack Chen 2-3 stars based on food alone, the Kung Pao and Curry dishes use a different kind of meatless product, never a problem with it. The 1 star rating is due to the absolutely terrible customer service. I contacted Grub Hub, explained that this is the 2nd time in as many orders this problem has occurred, and the restaurant should be aware. I informed them that I do not drink alcohol, not even remotely sick before the meal, and I am certain it was the food. The agent spoke to the "store manager", and said I would have to call and speak to her. Meaning Grub Hub is effectively useless in this kind of situation. I politely, and calmly explained to her everything, only to be met with extreme defensiveness, and a toxic, hostile attitude. "There is no way our food can make anyone sick", was screamed in my ear. Really? That's complete nonsense lol, of course mistakes happen, corners are cut, contamination can occur. She then belted out "no one else has complained" yea that you know of, not everyone is assertive and will take action when they are wronged. You have no proof that your food is safe and hasn't made other people sick. It was the kind of phone call where you can't shake the feeling that you're interacting with a sociopath. She had no ability to listen, did not seem to care about the facts of the situation, and mumbled something about a lawyer. Was she trying to say I should sue them? Why? Isn't that a bit extreme? A simple apology, and if she was feeling really professional, a credit for the offending dish, would have been fine. Was she trying to threaten me with legal action? For getting sick eating their food? Yea, I don't think it works like that. Her reactions say that this isn't the first time those dishes have gotten people sick, and instead of fixing their issues, they would rather try and intimidate and offend us into silence. The irony is, that I would have never left this review had she simply said "I'm very sorry, a mistake was made, how can we make this right?" Like a sane business owner should. I'm sure plenty of customers would have just left a spiteful review, never talked to them or tried to work it out privately.
