I love Jack Allen's, but why did they take their crab dip off the app menu? They also took the ravioli off, which was another appetizer I would always order. Since they didn't have my go to starters, I got their shrimp tostada bites and they were inedible. The cracker the shrimp was on was so hard, you couldn't bite through it. No one at our table was able to eat it, plus the fried green tomatoes were a bit disappointing as well. It's such a bummer that they changed up their menu. I hope they add a spinach artichoke dip to take the place of the crab dip, because their current options just don't do it for me. The soup I ordered though was really good. read more

My daughter and I had lunch at JAK on a recent Friday. We made a point of going early, a bit after 11 am, to avoid crowds. Early arrival turned out to be unnecessary. We were seated on the porch on the north side of the building. We were the only ones there for quite some time, and even after we left it was pretty empty. Service was definitely on the slow side, particularly for our entrees. We ordered Carne Asado and Chicken Tinga Enchiladas. Both were very tasty, although my daughter mentioned that she'd had entirely different seasoning on the meat in her experience with Carne Asada. This isn't a big surprise given one is Mexican (Asada) and the other South American (Asado). I wish they had a lunch menu and or lunch-sized portions, as we ended up taking half of our lunches home. One surprise we had was how good a non-alcoholic Heineken beer tastes! I've been to Jack Allen's kitchen quite a few times, and always enjoyed the food. I've always had a good experience here. The salsa is so fresh and delicious! I love how they bring it out in a cute little jar and pour it into a bowl at the table. Today, I had the Ruby Red Trout Salad, and it's now my favorite entree I've ever had there. The presentation was beautiful, and the fish was cooked perfectly! My compliments to the chef! My family was in Round Rock for the weekend for a soccer tournament. This was our first time visit a Jack Allen's restaurant so we did not know what to expect. As we reviewed the menu, they had a variety of offerings for brunch. At first, I thought the food would be basic or straightforward, but once it came out I was wowed by its presentation and the flavor! First off I was excited to see that they had barbacoa eggs Benedict! I don't eat pork products so this was a nice change from the traditional dish. The food looked so good, I didn't even bother taking a picture. Now what stands out the most, is the service we received from Sal! Wow!!! Give that man a promotion! He truly understands customer service and hospitality. The sweetest and most attentive waiter I've had in a very long time. He delivered to each of our requests (including kiddos 10 and 6) and in a timely manner. Overall it was an amazing first dining experience at this place and I would definitely come again. From start to finish the meal was perfection! We started with drinks. I got a cherry vanilla jack daniels slush, my husband and friend got an Old Fashioned. We also started with the catfish appetizer which I found to be quite tasty. It came with coleslaw and sauce on the side and arrived scalding hot! We ordered our entrees and they did not disappoint. I have lived in Texas for a year and heard great things about Jack Allen's and I believe it now! My friend got the special which will never be on the menu again but she said it was pretty good. Our other friend ordered the chicken sandwich and like his meal. My husband got a dish that he said was tasty and I enjoyed the spinach Gorgonzola ravioli! We were so pleased with our food that we got a dessert! We ordered the banana dessert and it was decent. I liked the crust of it most of all. I would absolutely come back here and try something else. Service was fast, seated fairly quickly, drinks came out fast. Complimentary 2 biter pimento cheese with chips were given. --Jalapeño Crab Dip (5/5) - Creamy crab dip with chips. Amazing, not too cheesy, not over powering with crabs, and not too salty. Must get! Super delish. --Chicken & Biscuits (4/5) - The chicken was moist and good, but the gravy needed more flavoring and seasoning. Biscuits we're good but the hash browns were alright as well, no flavor. --Smoked Barbacoa Quesadilla (5/5) - Very tender, what barbacoa isn't? It has the right amount of meat, flavors inside the quesadilla. Came with a side of slaw which was refreshing. We had to ask for some salsa if you need a dip with your quesadilla. My first time here! It was a very nice place with excellent service and very clean place. The food for me fell short unfortunately. The kids pancakes were dry and bland so I drowned them in syrup so it can be easy to eat. My quesadillas were good don't get me wrong but it just lacked flavor for me or maybe just more salt n pepper. I do have to say the barbacoa there is really really good! The chips and salsa was good , nothing out of the ordinary except it was $11 for just the queso.... Ouch lol. It's not going to stop me from coming back though, I still need to try the lunch and dinner plates. read more

Teacher Appreciation is *really!* appreciated during the last few days of summer break. This is JAK's second year to offer this event, and boy! Did we take advantage. Great food, incredibly friendly and efficient service, and the entire experience was lovely, despite the crowds. I was never a fan of JAK - until now. Bonus: grapefruit soda and gorgeous desserts. A friend and I met for dinner and was not disappointed. This visit actually changed his views positively of the food from the last time he visited. Before last night, he had no plans of going back but it's where I wanted to go. Needless to say, he says he will now go again. I also really enjoyed my crab stuffed chicken breast, potato cake ( and I'm NOT a fan of potatoes) and veggies. Everything was cooked great and came out in a very timely manner. The place was packed and had a wait of about 45 min-an hour so that says alot. Our server was very so nice! She was very knowledgeable of the menu which I appreciated so much. She actually recommended both of our meals and the BBQ shrimp appetizer and it was all very good! Be mindful that the BBQ shrimp is nowhere near BBQ lol. It's more like a New Orleans style scampi. This is a great place to go if you have picky eaters because the menu is varied with enough different cuisines to satisfy everyone. Service was solid and I was impressed with our server's knowledge of the menu and specials. We had the guacamole and chips as an appetizer and I thought it was delicious and interesting. I have never had guacamole with sunflower seeds. Odd but nice texture added. I had the crispy salmon which was good, but I wish the skin was on it. The salad that came with it was yummy. Fantastic food and service as always. Any Jack Allen's restaurant is dialed in. Salt Traders is across the road and has amazing seafood. This trip I went away from the 13 spice chicken pasta and got the green chile burger. It was perfectly cooked medium and had the right spice level. It will not light you up. If you want added spice add raw jalapeño along with the cooked that's on the burger. The bun held up tho the burger and I love the skin on fries that come with it. read more

Jack Allen's has been in Austin for decades, and in Round Rock for about a decade. This restaurant is an offshoot of the guy that started Z Tejas, so many dishes made it from there to this menu, although the Jack Allen's menu is more extensive. The food is good, and consistent. One of my go-to is the Jack Allen burger; the hickory sauce is nice and rich, and the pickles and chipotle mayo with the cheese and onion makes it a great charbroiled burger on a big toasted bun. You can order it with or without bacon, I personally don't like my beef burger polluted with another meat so I skip the bacon, although it is an applewood smoked thick-sliced bacon. At both locations, when I order this burger, I ask for extra cheddar cheese no up-charge since I don't get the bacon - no problem. However, at both locations, they brought the extra cheddar cheese out in a ramekin on the side of my plate... I thought it would be obvious I want the extra cheddar melted on my burger so now I have to specifically state ' melted on the burger, please'...it's an enigma. The fries are not thin and not steak-fry thick, but are in between. You can order sweet potato and regular potato mix. The Chicken Pesto with Crab Stuffing is a really good dish, with a cream sauce with shallots on top. The crab tasted fresh and like real crab, and the pesto was a great compliment to both the chicken and the crab. The chicken was juicy. Since I have eaten at both locations, there is a discernible difference in the service staff between Anderson Lane and the Round Rock location. The staff at Anderson are welcoming, friendly, helpful and attentive. It is just the opposite at the Round Rock location. I have eaten at both locations numerous times, and consistently almost every time I have issues with the Round Rock staff; discernible attitude, inattentiveness to service, forgetting to bring things that you asked for with your meal and then having to wait or ask again, not checking in to see if our meal is fine after we receive and begin eating our dinner, and the end-all was last night when our waiter, who still hadn't brought water with lemon we asked for, seemed put out that I had to ask again, and then when he did bring the water, he forgot the lemons, and then had the audacity to roll his eyes at me when I reminded him we also wanted lemon. This is the attitude of the service staff at the Round Rock location, and I don't know that I'll eat there again because of this. I believe it is a reflection of the management. This is the reason for three stars instead of four. The ambience is cozier at the Anderson Lane location and a little more chain restaurant looking at the Round Rock location. Business is usually brisk, and like most restaurants nowadays you cannot hear yourself think when it's full. All in all Jack Allen's is a nice Austin representation but I recommend going to the Anderson Lane location. read more

We had dinner with my Daughter and her family. My Granddaughter remembered our Server was Luke. I'm old so guess what? I'm going to take her word for it. He was awesome! I particularly liked the way that he brought me limes for my tea. They were on a little balance stick so I didn't have to fish it out with a fork, or fingers I'm I ordered Ruby Trout, and half expected, fresh water trout, I must say it's the best sea trout I've ever had. We have been going to Jack Allen's Round Rock since it opened and have always had great food and service until tonight. Had 7pm reservations and we were about 20 minutes early, hostesses were nice but we waited 20+ minutes while we could see 2 empty tables and 1 booth. Finally got seated and then waited 10+ minutes for a waiter who did not come until we flagged down a hostess and asked her to get our waiter. Steven B finally showed up to take our drink and appetizer order, we not only ordered appetizers that my wife had a lengthy discussion with Steven B about what she wanted. we decided to go ahead a put in our dinner orders so we wouldn't have to look for Steven again, drinks came then another server brought our dinner orders. we asked about our appetizers and he said he would check on it and Steven finally showed up and said our appetizer order was never put in. Ate dinner which was good as usual, finally got the check and a leftover carton while Steven offered us a single desert for 4 people. This was absolutely the Worst service I have had here, would have spoken to a manager but couldn't find one. Very disappointed Jack. read more

Stopped here on a whim with my fiancé and we had the best time! The food was amazing, we devoured the jalapeño crab dip. My fiancé got the Steak Taco & Fundido Skillet. He thought the steak was cooked to perfection and well seasoned! I got the Pesto-Marinated Crab Stuffed Chicken and it was Devine! The service was also wonderful. I have nut allergies and they were so careful about making sure that I'm safe, I felt really taken care of. We were staying in Round Rock and lucky we saw they had a location just 5 minutes from our hotel (total of 4 locations in the Austin area). The concept is farm to table and they do have an abundant amount of items on the menu that change seasonally. A good sized restaurant with a bar area, high top tables and some outdoor seating. Loud/vibrant atmosphere (& this was on a Thur. night). While waiting we tried the Thirsty Goat Amber from the very close local brewery-Thirsty Planet-highly recommended! What to order? It all looked so good! Our server gave us some ideas and while we were contemplating what to order he brought out some complimentary samples of the house made Pimento cheese which we enjoyed and was a nice touch! We also got the guac appetizer which had pumpkin seeds (a first) and was delicious. For mains, we ordered the Chicken Fried Pork Chop, slow Braised Beef Barbacoa Enchiladas & Southern Crispy Chicken Sandwich. Pork Chop was massive & was tender/seasoned perfectly. The Enchiladas with that tasty beef Barbacoa and Poblano cream sauce were over the top! Pimento cheese and jalapeño sauce made for an out of the ordinary Crispy Chicken sandwich. The Chunky red smashers that came with the Chop were pure comfort! Our server talked us into sharing a dessert so we got the Chocolate flourless Torte. No regrets! Brunch at Jack Allen's was amazing! They are a sister restaurant of Salt Traders, so the inside is decorated nicely, relaxed but still a little bit upscale. Our waitress was awesome, and made sure to check on us frequently. We started out with their house made pimento cheese - best pimento cheese I've had so far! I've had a lot of different kinds of eggs Benedict, but their barbacoa Benedict takes the cake! The cook on the egg was great, as well as the hollandaise sauce. Hard to say whether this is 2-3 stars. I chose two because this kinda ruined my lunch. I had questions so I called the store and I got put on hold for several minutes before the call disconnected. I called again and same thing. Then went online decided to see if I could answer my question there. I did and placed the order. They forgot my chicken for my salad. The food took way longer than pick up time. I get they are busy but too many balls dropped for anything more than 2 stars. Our service was GREAT - food and drinks all came out SO fast and our server made a bunch of recommendations. It also has a great vibe! The food/drink was underwhelming. I had one of the wines that the waitress recommended and I did not like it at all. We got the queso - it came with guacamole, green chiles and pork in it- the pork was so hard, we couldn't even eat it. If this dish didn't have that pork in it, we would have loved it. For entrees, we got the Ruby trout and the crab stuffed chicken - we enjoyed the trout but not the chicken. The chicken was tough to eat and only had one small piece of crap on it. The mashed potatoes that came with the chicken were AMAZING - I probably should have gotten the shrimp tacos or the Mac and cheese. Jack Allen's Kitchen is a local Austin chain that offers brunch, lunch, and dinner. It is a nice family causal restaurant that offers plenty of bar seating as well as restaurant seating as well. They don't have much on their brunch menu but what I did have was great. I got an order of the pimento cheese, homemade biscuits, and their breakfast sandwich. Their biscuits were huge and comes with honey butter or green Chile gravy. The breakfast sandwich had a special hollandaise sauce on there which was nice twist. A great place to grab a bite either with the family or with a group a friends. read more
