I have eaten here 3 times and all three times the service has been fantastic (although I've always had the same waitress) and I've never eaten anything here that I didn't like. Highly recommend the Mac Daddy, the Cider house sprouts and today for the first time I had the chicken nachos.. all were delicious. Also took my 15 year old son who is as much of a foodie as me and he had the Mac daddy.. seeing as he ate the sandwich with his eyes closed and moaning I'd say he liked it read more

We wanted to eat in the area since we were gonna be there. Found this place with good reviews on yelp and decided to try it out. Upon entering, there was a group in front of us so we waited a bit. After they were seated, we were ignored for awhile before someone came to get us. When they came to get us seated, they grabbed 2 packs of utensils from the front, looked at it and was rubbing his hand on one pack. We were kinda grossed out, considering we're living in a pandemic. On the bright side, we were able to order and get our food within a reasonable amount of time. The family style bbq we ordered were dry and overcooked. It was supposed to be a portion for 2 people but it was very small that I think one person could eat it all. For $35, it wasn't a lot. read more

J. Wild's Burgers & BBQ is a great place to enjoy lunch and beers on tap in Historic Old Town. I highly recommend making reservations, this is a very popular place. The manager warmly greeted us at the door and we were promptly seated on the patio. Inside the place has lots of seating and a giant bar. We brought our dog with us, so it was nice to sit on the patio in the shade and people watch. The restaurant is kid and dog friendly. The host gave the kids coloring mats and crayons to entertain themselves. The manager was really kind and brought ice water out in a dog bowl for our pup. I had the Goldrush chicken sandwich and cornbread for lunch with a light beer on tap. Lunch was so filling, no one in our party had dinner that night. I highly recommend J. I'm going to give this place a 4 stars because they were accommodating to us by setting up the outside area because my friend brought her dog. This my first time hanging out in Folsom. Our server was very sweet. The prices are not that bad either 14$ for my platter. (I would give this place a 3 if the service would have been bad.) Outstanding. Our first dinner here was on Saturday 7/3 and we enjoyed it so much we had dinner again last night on Tuesday 7/6. We were served by Abby and then Juan, both were great and Juan was especially gracious. Food was all around just really damn good! On both occasions be ordered the Fried Rubs and the Gold Rush sandwich, obviously delicious. Opt for the fried chicken on the Gold Rush-crunchy and perfect. Nashville Hot Chicken was tangy, spicy and filling. Fries as described by a 10 year old; " Better than McDonald's!" That's high praise! ;) That Mac and Cheese is just like momma used to make, no joke! My mom always made homemade macaroni and cheese and this is the the closest I've ever had to moms recipe out in the real world. It's mild, ultra creamy, and fantastic. We were so sad to see Old Folsom's Chicago Fire leave this location but J. Wild's is an amazing replacement. We didn't even realize what we were missing! I've been here a couple times and it's great for a more casual date night and dinner with friends. Okay we have to talk about the Mac Daddy... it's creamy, melts in your mouth, and is the perfect mixture of pulled pork and mac n cheese. It's so filling but somehow once you're full, you still want more -- it's that good. It's one of those meals that is super messy to eat but you don't even care because it's so good. Tried the zucchini fries this time, while they aren't the very best I've had, they're still good. Super crunchy. They were just cut pretty thick so most bites were mainly zucchini and it was hard to taste the crunchy goodness on the outside. I didn't like the spicy sauce they came with, but they tasted great dipped in ranch! Also had a raspberry lemon drop and it was good, a bit too sweet for my liking but still good! After we dined down the street, I came here with my best friend; we wanted to try some smokey foods and what better place to go. The Smoked Old Fashion - Extremely smokey, just the way I enjoy it, in a jar filled with smoke, so when you take the lid off, the smoke comes drifting out. Stopped by this restaurant on our anniversary and couldn't be happier. The food and drinks are out of this world good. We started off dinner with some Wild Fries with pulled pork, Cider House Sprouts and a Smoked Old Fashion. The Wild Fries were amazing and the pulled pork was super tender. The Cider House Sprouts were perfectly cooked with a generous amount of bacon. The Smoked Old Fashion was super tasty and beautifully presented. For the main course we had the 2x2. (Brisket, Ribs, Drop Biscuit, Corn Bread, Mac n Cheese and Charro Beans). The ribs and brisket were delicious and the smoke ring was very noticeable. All the sides dishes and breads were fantastic. We have tried J Wilds a few times now. The food is always good. They have run out of certain types of meat before. There is always a wait but it's never been too long for us. We usually get a large sampler plate that comes with 3 choices of meat. Not a fan of their Mac and cheese. The cornbread is good but it has tasted different on one occasion. Maybe cooked differently or something, the consistency was different. They have indoor and outdoor seating, the out door has a nice fire pit that lends to the ambiance. read more

My family, party of 10 just experienced the worst Mothers Day service at Jwilds in Folsom. Our reservation was for 12:00. It started with no Ribs available then went down hill from there. Our server, never followed up with drink refills, condiments that were empty at our table. The food was not delivered timely, some plates were delivered 25 minutes after the first ones. The food was soggy and cold. So some in my party opted not to eat in order not to make anyone wait for them. I asked for the manager who never followed up! It was the most disappointing experience. If you read my reviews, I've got a soft spot for barbecue. I've been to Texas, Kansas City, Chicago, and have mainly reserved my barbecue cravings for out of state travel. Sacramento lacks good barbecue for many reasons, but places like J. Wild's Livery & Feed are a great way to rekindle that true American cuisine. This large restaurant is located in downtown Folsom with only street parking. The downtown garage is free and a great way to walk off those calories. The menu has mostly traditional meats and sides with a few eclectic options. I would say the style is part Texas and part Kansas City, so probably Oklahoma style. Just kidding! I opted for the pork rib plate with wagon wheel Mac and cheese and a biscuit. The ribs were perfect with a tender texture and meaty taste. They likely mop the ribs during smoking so there is a residual sauce which is great. My sides were pretty good too. The wagon wheel Mac and cheese was unique and fun with a mild and creamy texture. My biscuit was the drop variety which is unusual compared to the more ubiquitous rolled variety. It was more rough and dense, but tasty. I should try the cornbread on a future visit. Tables have several sauces including hot and sweet. This was one of my first post COVID indoor dining experiences in California. The interior is set up in homage to an old west tack and feed store with a large bar and big screens just waiting for the end of the virus and the start of football season. The tables are a bit basic, so try for a booth if available. They have patio seating as well to watch the masked bandits on the street. Downtown Folsom is a nice vacation from Zoom meetings and distance learning. Having a great barbecue restaurant like J. Wild's is another reason to visit. They have great food that everyone will love with great service even during these weird times. read more

So happy we finally tried this place out, great location in the heart of downtown Folsom and every time we pass by it's very lively. We decided to get the brisket nachos to start, very delicious and recommend ordering the nacho cheese sauce early so you can throw that on top. Lots of great meats to choose from, ended up doing the 2x2 with pulled pork and the ribs along with the cornbread and Mac n cheese (super cheesy just the way in should be!) Contrary to my experience yesterday at a different BBQ location, tonight's dinner at J Wilds Livery Fees was terrific. The location is clean, open, has a active bar, large monitors and the service was great. Our server Kaylee was attentive and checked on us repeatedly. Terrific service. We ordered Brussels sprouts, fried ribs and wings for starters. They were all very tasty. The Brussels sprouts were so good we ordered a second order. The wings are smoked and crispy. Very good. Our main courses were meat combos, brisket tacos, pulled pork meal, and they were great. For the brisket we were asked if we wanted the lean or fatty cuts. My son went for the fatty and I went for the lean. It was awesome to have this option. Tacos were great and all sides were very tasty. Mac and cheese was velvety with the right cheese flavor profile. The slaw was not sweet so if you want sweetness avoid this side. Beans were a little spicy and the corn bread was fantastic. The table had 3 types of sauces in a bottle, sweet, habanero hot and tangy. You didn't have to ask for BBQ sauce. Overall a great BBQ location in old Folsom with quality BBQ. My husband and I visited around 8 o'clock on a Saturday night. They were sold out of most items and what was left was Burgers and salads for the most part. Chandler and Eric were excellent. Chandler was very attentive to our needs and Eric seem to be the bus boy who recommended a burger we plan to try the next go round. We had a wedge salad with brisket and the Sutter burger. Favorites include: Zucchini Fries, Smoked Chicken, Brisket, & Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. We also sometimes get the brisket to-go and chop it up to put on homemade BBQ pizza. Bourbon prices used to be decent. I understand the high prices for the highly sought after allocations, but they used to have good prices for some of the mid-tier allocations such as Weller Full Proof, Rock Hill Farms, etc. Last time I went, a standard pour of Booker's seemed a bit high. Last visit, we discovered they changed ordering to an on-line version where you order from your phone to the table or order at the counter. While this can sometimes be convenient, there are occasions where it makes ordering difficult. If you are going to order a second beverage, you have to complete another separate transaction. Also, if you are dining in but would like one of the items to-go, there is no way to indicate on-line that you would like that item to go. This makes you have to go and order at the counter and try to remember the entire table's orders. Hoping they can tweak some things to make the ordering process more user friendly if they are going to stay with this business model. read more

I was ever so disappointed in our experience at J Wilds. We were going to have a date night and thought, as in our previous visits, we would order at the table with a LIVE person and not a BAR CODE.
