It was a cold rainy day when I dropped in for lunch. It was our first time dining here. I was eager to try their BBQ. I've walked by the restaurant in historic Folsom a ton of times, but never stopped in. The restaurant interior is modern and beautifully designed. It has hardware floors, dark walls, and framed black n white historic photos of Folsom landmarks from a bygone era. That was pretty cool. But our food was not served hot. We had various servers and each of them said the other was our sever. Someone took our drink order, she came back with our drinks quickly. Then it went downhill from there. It took quite awhile to order and to get our food and to check out. I ordered the pulled pork plate. It came with 5 ounces of pulled pork, cornbread, and two sides for $14. I chose chips n salsa and coleslaw as my sides. But something was amiss. The pork wasn't hot at all, not even lukewarm. Plus it didn't have much flavor, not even a smoky BBQ flavor. They did have bottles of their signature house made BBQ sauces on the table. They got you covered with 3 sauces... a sweet version, a hot spicy, and a tangy one. They were all delicious. My fave was the tangy BBQ sauce. It was sweet and zingy. I squirted some of each sauce on my plate to dip the shredded pork into and went to town. The best thing on the plate was the cornbread. It would have been phenomenally tastier if it was warmed up. That was served at room temp. The coleslaw and the chips n salsa were ok. Hub's hamburger and fries were also served cold. I took a few bites of the burger. Besides from it being cold, I did like the flavor of the 50/50 blend of prime brisket and angus chuck. The brisket gave it a stronger beefier taste. Since it was served cold, it didn't have that first bite burst of a juicy patty.

We came here for the first time and I had been here years ago before covid. I'm not sure if it was still the same restaurant then, I thought it may have been called something else. Anyhow, the place was packed and busy. There was a wait which was not too bad. We sat outside next to the heating lamps and when we were called in, we got to sit in the inside area. The food was delicious, the Mac daddy burger looked pretty awesome. The chicken salad was not bad though I thought it would have been grilled. The portion size was ok though I had pictured a larger plate. Overall, the food and drink were decent. Parking is just a bit hard to find especially on a busy night after work. We did find one in the garage and thankfully there was a free shuttle service. Who would've known there was such a service for this Historic Folsom area?! Would I come here again?... I would.

We came here looking for BBQ. This place used to be Chicago Fire and opened during the pandemic. They don't really have a long history of making BBQ. The place is casual and rustic appearing. The servers were nice and attentive. I avoided the pulled pork because of prior reviews saying it came out cold. I got the 2 meat BBQ platter. The ribs were well cooked and flavored. My brisket was too fatty. The beans and coleslaw were legit and the corn bread was heaven. My wife and son enjoyed their plates. Not sure I'll be back but it's worth a try if you haven't been here before.

Overall a fun experience. Showed up at 1215 on a Friday for lunch and beat the rush. Ordered 3 burgers and fries and a few drinks. Burgers were super tasty and the fries were crispy and delicious. Burgers were definitely filling for grown adults. Next time, were getting bbq meats!

We stopped in for lunch after strolling thru the Xmas fair. This place never disappoints. Chicken is so moist and portions are Huge. The burger was towering and full of goodness. It was quite busy for lunch but our bartender server was on top of it. Great job to her

2x2 BBQ Plate (brisket & ribs) (IG: @evsn_eats)

I really enjoyed this bbq place. Friday afternoon wasn't busy at all and I was able to walk in and be placed a seat by the window, my only caveat is there was a lot of flies by my window which were more of a nuisance than anything else. Ordered the 2x2 BBQ plate with ribs, brisket, slaw, and Caesar salad. Also came with a slice of cornbread and butter (OMG amazing cornbread) Ribs were delicious and cooked just to my liking - if you need more sauce they have 3 options on the table. The brisket was also really delicious, so moist and juicy I couldn't get enough of it. The cornbread was the cherry on top though! Man I am still thinking about it as I'm sitting at the airport waiting for my flight. Absolutely amazing and the staff was great! Super friendly asking how my day went and then also thanked me for asking how her day went (thought that was a kind gesture). My server also made frequent stops to make sure I had everything I needed. 10/10 would recommend for Folsom.

"I'm just gonna say it," he said, "I like Hurricanes. I'm not sure if you know about how some men are about ordering drinks in Hurricane glasses--" "Oh, I know. I was a cocktail waitress, remember? I have seen men get EMOTIONAL over their glasses." We then proceeded to talk about cocktail glasses for several minutes, causing the poor waitress to have to come back multiple times before finally getting our order in. I ordered a raspberry lemon drop and the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich with mac and cheese wagon wheels. He ordered a Hurricane, and some kind of brisket plate with Cowboy Cornbread, Charro beans, and Sierra slaw. My lemon drop had a sugar rim (which I love) and was filled to the brim. Since lemon drops are my personal least favorite drink to carry, I couldn't help but notice that our server was exceptionally graceful about it. She was very attentive, and was super sweet. Once the food came out, I went straight for the wagon wheels, remembering how much I had loved them last time I was here. I think I got the end of the day wagon wheels or something this time, but they were still pretty good. Biting into the chicken sandwich was such an amazing experience that I became visually dramatic about it. He said, "That good, huh?" To be fair, I've never been to Nashville, but I think this was the best hot chicken sandwich I've ever had in my life. He tried to call the waitress back to order another round, which is when we realized that we had accidentally overstayed our welcome. He said that the hours posted on Yelp had originally been incorrect, but I think they've been fixed now. The waitress said that the hours have changed a few times, but they currently close at 9pm on weekdays. So, we moved the party down the street to Sutter Club. Last time I was here, I had sat in the front room, which has less TVs, and a view of all the cars driving by on Riley and Sutter. This time, we sat in the main room, which had about as many TVs as a sports bar. I definitely preferred the ambiance in the front room, but liked this meal better, overall. While it wasn't my idea to come here, I'm glad that we did, because this experience improved my opinion of J. Wild's, and I would definitely come back again.

Delicious meat and cornbread, but questionable sides

I would say that this is a solid 3. Somewhat disappointing, as I was hoping to find a Sacramento-ish area BBQ joint where I can think of more a four or five overall experience, but this one is ok. First off, the meat. I will admit that both my pulled pork and "1/2 chicken" were amazing. The chicken is in quotes due to the fact that this was one of the biggest half chicken orders I have ever seen and/or eaten (see the picture I attach). Not only huge, but juicy as well. No pink, and not dry. Very hard for restaurants (and home cooks alike) to be able to cook chicken that near perfectly. The pulled pork was good (I have had better), but putting their house BBQ sauce on it made it quite more palatable. The downside would be the sides. Why oh why can no Sacramento BBQ joints know how to make decent sides. Now, to be fair, the cornbread was delicious. We all agreed on that. But my "Charro beans" tasted like a chili-bbq sauce-bean type "soup" that has left me perplexed....I didn't hate it, but my tongue didn't know what it was tasting. Mac and cheese was flat out tasteless and, if I had to guess.......microwaved. The Chips and "salsa" was chips with the weird bean concoction to dip in. That was a letdown.... Customer service was great. Our server was friendly, attentive, asked questions, and drink refills were always present. He brought out complimentary ice cream for my younger sisters' (yes, two of their birthdays) birthday celebration. A lot of people there seemed friendly, so definitely a yay for them on that. Overall, this falls into my "wouldn't recommend it, but if invited, wouldn't mind it, either" category. Do with that what you will

Saturday, 3/12/2022 - Went to J. Wilds restaurant in Folsom, CA. Address is 614 Sutter Street, Folsom, Ca 95630. Jwilds.com. upon arrival: Pros: 1) restaurant looked clean. Tables, chairs, dishes, utensils and cups looked clean. 2) we wanted to sit on the table with the fire. They cleaned the table and let us sit there. Fireplace was in the middle of table. 3) waiter gave us time to look over the menu. But he took our drink orders right away. Water tasted great. No funky taste. Drinks were good. 4) I got the Pulled Chicken Sandwich for $13 and asked to see if I can replace the slaw with salad. I was charged $18. 5) our waiter was very nice. 6) their corn bread and butter was very good. Butter was so good, we bought 2 container to go. BBQ Brisket sandwich was good. We liked all of our food dish. Salads fresh and not wilty. Mac and Cheese was good. 7) I saw they had a bar was TVs. 8) women's bathroom was clean. 9) there's parking but hard to find in Folsom in this area. Cons: 1) when I asked our waiter to see if I can switch the slaw for salad, I wish he would have told me there was an additional charge of $5 to do that. He said it said it in the menu. When he looked over the menu, it was NOT on the menu. Then he immediately said he was new and still learning. He should have gotten his supervisor to come out so I can talk to him/her. He just looked very uncomfortable and didn't know what to do and left. I had to keep looking for him so that I can pay my part so I can leave the restaurant. I didn't want to fight it, and so just paid the $18 + tip. Conclusion: Staffs were very nice here. Place was clean and foods all good. Would have been nice when a server made a mistake, instead of disappearing or making up excuses, let us talk to their supervisor. Better yet, they could have taken the initiative and said something like they thought it was on the menu, but since it's not, let them go and talk to their supervisor to see how they remedy the misinformation. But nope, he didn't do that. I'm disappointed in that server in that part of the service. All in all, the restaurant was good and I liked it.

Green tea shot for St Patty's day and a mojito
    Lysa D.

This was our 2nd stop on our bar crawl for St Patty's Day. The green tea shot, mojito and bloody mary was good. The sutter tea vodka was not good at all. We had been there before and had some drinks which were all good so it might just be that one drink that we don't care for. The service was great both times and even tho we didn't order food, we saw and smelled all the food being brought out and it smelled and looked awesome. We will def be trying that place for food soon! I would recommend it for drinks right now, good and not super pricey, with great service.

    Folsom Julep
    Lydia A.

We checked out this spot curious to see how previous the Chicago Fire location had been transformed. Spoiler alert- it looks very much the same inside. The key teaser for what to expect is the fragrant bbq smoke that wafts out. For drinks we had the smoked old fashioned and a Folsom julep which had lilikoi in it. I loved the julep and my husband loved the novelty of the smoke coming out of his drink although may let it sit a bit longer so the smoke isn't too strong. For food we had been hoping to try the brisket, but they were out! We pivoted to try their sandwiches. The Nashville hot chicken was delicious. The chopped brisket was just ok. It didn't have any of the unctuousness you'd want from brisket. We did find it delightful that there was a variety of bbq sauces to choose from on the table. Service was nice. The big bummer was just not having brisket... at a bbq spot.

We decided to try friends. When we walked in, it was completely empty. One table inside had two people seated and one table outside had two people there. We sat on patio, it is quiet and nice to feel like you are in the woods with trees and foliage all around.. Nice and peaceful. The tables looked like the "old" Benihana type of tables with the grill pan in the middle. They looked dirty but it I think they are just dated. Not a problem for us as we tend to like "hole in the wall" type places and that is the vibe this place gives. Our waitress was nice just seemed shy. Music genre was oldies. We ordered a jalapeño burger and the grilled chicken club sandwich. The jalapeño burger was supposed to be 1/2 lb Angus beef. It did have good flavor and cooked right, but it was a very small burger. Hubby felt that it couldn't be 1/2lb. For the price it was just too small. $18. The grilled chicken avacado club sandwich had one slice of bacon on it, not a deal breaker but the chicken wasn't grilled. Not sure how it was cooked, but not on a grill. It had a lot of seasoning on it and yet the sandwich was underwhelming. The produce seemed like it was yesterday's produce. The fries were also just ok. Didn't seem like there was any salt. They did sprinkle some chopped cilantro on top which looked nice. Overall we did enjoy the patio and peacefulness of our lunch there, and we do hope to see some improvements in quality and maybe better portion sizes for the cost. We will give it a shot another time, maybe dinner time when they are a little busier.

I got the bacon on the side for my doggie because I don't eat pork, but it comes with tomato, fried onion straws, lettuce, and pickle. You have the choice between fries, tater tots, onion rings or a salad. Not pictured- the amazing seared ahi tuna salad 10/10 ask for a side of extra dressing. The portion is huge and price is totally worth it as they give you a healthy portion of ahi tuna. I mean this place does not disappoint with the sides or carb options for you burgers. I overheard someone next to me say how amazing the onion rings are and how they often fill themselves up too much on them before their regular meal. I chose sweet potato fries because this is always a better choice. I appreciate the sea salt grinder at the table along with having ketchup, mustard, and hot sauce all tables and ready for me. I really think it's a little annoying when restaurants don't have condiments or salt & pepper shakers out at the table and you have to bother the waiter with yet another request. This burger was cheesy and had all the necessary toppings plus really bomb bbq sauce on it. I added a little sea salt to the sweet potato fries and they tasted perfect. They have new and rotating beers and ciders and so I tried the apricot which was really good- nice that they let you taste before ordering as well. Service was great, everyone was nice and friendly and smiled, and I love the boots, jeans, and western feel of the place. As a dog lover I'm obsessed with alll the doggy pictures there.
