My go-to restaurant when I'm in the area. So far food and sushi are on point. Good sushi selectuon and cooked dishes. All Decently priced. Not too fond of the dark ambiance though. It kinda reminds me of a karaoke bar minus the stage and karaoke equipment (you get the point lol). Service is OK. Not a lot of pleasantries... which I don't mind. I LOVE J SUSHI!! The sushi is that "melt in your mouth" sushi that all connoisseurs dream of. THIS IS MY GO-TO PLACE FOR GREAT SUSHI IN DENTON! I don't really leave reviews but I'm upset that I ate here and thought I should warn others. They were busy so I didn't want to seem impatient, but they took way too long. It was over 40 minutes for two rolls of basic sushi (one of them being an avocado roll) and some rice. The older female employee kept coughing into her hands and then handling food/receipts. It's disgusting and I should've left at that moment. Now, a day later, I'm paying for what I ate. I've been sick all day and honestly I want a refund. Don't eat here. This was my first visit. There was nothing too special about the sushi, they were typical Americanized Japanese food. I particularly loved the Titanic Roll although my friend didn't like it so much. I think some of the specialty rolls ($10-$16 range) are a better bet if you are into eating sushi (like I am). Service was superb and the atmosphere was quite liked. I've ordered from J Sushi twice via DoorDash. I have tried the Go Go roll and their yakiudon and both have been consistently delicious and freshly served, even when delivered. I went there at 130 and was the only customer there. This was the place I always went to get my hamachi kama. Note was The service was horrible. Noted there was 3 wait staff and 3 people behind the sushi bar. I asked for a diet coke and though I asked twice it was not brought until my roll was brought. I ordered a spicy one did not get that. I could not get my waitress or any other staff all watching television to refill my drink. I finally received my main dish. It was way over cooked. They use to provide shredded turnip under as a accompaniment. Literally just the kama with nothing else. Again I had to ask for a refill. It was clear that asking for 1 refill on a soda was putting her out I recognize that the times have made it difficult for privately owned restaurants to survive. Meh. Based on the positive reviews, we popped in. After going there and having the experience, I am trying to determine if: 1. Aliens abducted the people that used to work there, and it's not the same people. 2. They olympics were on, and watching them was more important than attention to detail. Or......... 3. There are really two J Sushi's at the same location, and we went in the front door when the good one is through the back door. On tap was the vegetable tempura for an appetizer. To bad for us, the ahi tuna tower came out first. So, let's start there. I have never seen it presented like it was here anywhere else. The tuna looked like poop on top of the rice. Yep, never put that in a review before, but I cannot describe the appearance. Sorry. It was also covered in eel sauce. Not that impressive, and we didn't finish it. We joked that it was the leaning tower of sushi because as soon as it got to our table it started listing and the waiter save it by mixing it before if feel apart. The vegetable tempura made an appearance next. It was OK. The mushroom could have used just a bit more time. The broccoli was ok though. Not memorable in a good or bad way. It was just there. Next out was the dragon fly roll, go go roll, and the sunset roll. The winner of that group was the go go roll and the loser was the dragon fly roll. The sunset roll was just there and not a standout. Let's talk a bit about presentation just a bit. There is no doubt that preparing sushi is an art. That being the case, I think we got the Sesame Street artist. It looked like a 4-5 year old prepared it. The consistency of the slice widths was awful. You would get one bite size piece and the next one was at least 1.5 times bigger. The other thing missing was the tightness. The rolls were not tight and appeared very sloppy. They would just about fall apart when you picked up a slice. Service? Let's just give that a meh too and move on. Back to the opening remarks regarding the attempt to determine what happened. I'm going to have to go with #1. There is no way based on the earlier reviews that it is the same people. It was like it was the Taco Bell of sushi because it appeared that everything was just slapped together. Your mileage may very, and if you go there, I sure hope it does for your sake. read more

Best Sushi place I've been to in TX! All the staffs were very professional, friendly, and attentive. Chefs were on point in making sushi. The sashimi were more than the average size and the cut were thick. Very clean, lovely atmosphere. Food was very delicious! Beautifully plated and no long wait. Seriously the best sushi in the DFW area! The service here is great! Sam and Sunwoo are brothers and sisters and they help manage the family restaurant. So I say that if it's made by a family, it's made for families. Definitely a nice place to take your loved ones out to. Great food. I've never had anything that I didn't like here. Try the Ahi tower. It's amazing. Actually I tried ahi towers at other places after this one, and it was never even close up to par. The rolls melt in your mouth, i love the philadelphia roll. Ok, I admit it. I am not a big fan of Americanized Japanese food but my hubs has been wanting to give this place a shot. So like any devoted wife, I graciously agreed to his suggestion. The verdict? Miso Ramen: broth tasted pretty peppery and salty.It did not have any comforting meaty taste to it. The uncanny thing is that they use grilled beef in the dish. The grilled beef was good but i just thought that it didn't pair well with the dish. Anyhow, if you treat it like a good bowl of instant packet noodles with some leftover grilled beef, i guess it would make a decent meal. Salmon roll: simple yet delicious. Fish was fresh so that's a great plus. Firecracker roll: WOW. When i saw them bringing it out to table next to me, I was awestruck by the flames bursting away on the dish. Immediately I had to order it! It was so tasty with a nice hint of smoky flavor. However after my 3rd piece I got pretty tired with the generous serving of mayo. Service and ambiance were great! I think this place will continuously attract American style sushi aficionados. But unfortunately for me, I have to stick to something more traditional like Mr. Max's Ramen which is all the way in Irving. read more

Maybe it was just an off night, but there was nothing impressive enough about this place to make me want to ever revist J Sushi. The appetizer came out less than a minute before the sushi, the rolls were nothing impressive, and the servers were all young and seemed pretty untrained. Our waiter was nice, but we had to ask for our initial drink order 3 times (even though he only had 2 tables including us). On a refill he accidentally swapped my tea with the neighboring tables (easy to tell because only mine had lemon and a straw). I asked for another tea and told him that they were switched and he whisper asked me if he should tell the guy (?!?). He didn't end up telling him and it was too late by the time I could. Gross. I'd hope for a little higher standard of cleanliness, esp. when the majority of food served is raw fish. Used the ladies restroom when I was there, which had some seriously stinky piss sitting in the toilet with the seat up. Everything was pretty dirty. We went there because it was close by and I had a buy one roll, get the other free coupon, so might as well give it a shot. I'll stick to I Heart Sushi and Avocado going forward. My girlfriend and I just got back from here and we loved it. Their Spicy Tuna Roll is the best by far of anywhere I have gone!!! It is pretty spicy but not over powering. My previous favorite was Mr. Chopsticks spicy tuna roll. We also had the Godzilla Roll. It was pretty good, but the description is a little off in the menu. The menu doesn't say that the whole roll is dipped in tempura and fried...... I wouldn't have ordered it if I had known. Overall, it was a good experience the service was prompt and attentive. The rolls took a bit long due to the fact they had a party of 10+ their ordering a TON of sushi!! I will be back next week! =) read more

Crab stick sushi: 2 pieces, huge chunk of crab! Very tasty! Cucumber roll: 6 pc, can't really go wrong with this... Lunch total: $8.88 The service was quick, friendly, and simply awesome! The waiters/waitresses were very attentive of my water level and they were very prompt with their tasks. The venue is purposely made dark (I came at high noon and it was very cool and relaxing inside). The place is very clean as well with nice fitting interior decor. I will continue to update this review as I try more things on the menu as I will definitely be returning back to this place! The only difference between one and two stars was that they did not charge us for our drinks. We went on a random Wednesday night and I was surrounded by unhappy customers constantly having to go find waitstaff to either bring them the check, or bring them their soup, or refill a drink. Elementary things that were simply not being accomplished. The food wasn't terrible but it wasn't good enough to bring me back to deal with the wait staff. Our waiter was pretty ok though. We were able to get a refill on drinks and he gave us a coupon for Kaleo the bubble tea place next door. So thanks for that but others were having a tougher time than we were. Our neighboring table took 20 minutes to get their check sorted out. There was a table of 6 young high schoolers who came in, ordered drinks, looked at the menu and left to what I assume was a price tag shock. Anyway, I ordered the bulgogi. It was a large portion but they forgot to bring me the accompanied rice. And eating utensils. And napkins. Elementary again. My husband had sushi which he loved. We had read they make decent sushi and it's been on the list of places to try for a year and a half now and they live up to their expectations there, but I can think of 10 other places to revisit before here. My Boyfriend and I come here on several occasions. Both of us love sushi and we never go anywhere else. Pros: The food is awesome. Love the Shrimp tempura so much that I have started ordering double. The prices are average for a sushi bar. Their fried rice is really good. I order it with hibachi made steak and it gives it some real flavor. Cons: The servers tend to have a big turn over rate. Every time we come there are new servers so they are never here long enough to learn their menu. The can't answer simple questions like what Sake is and will have to run to the back and ask. They are all nice and it's never changed how much we love the place but it's something we have come to expect. I got the Bento Lunch Special and the Fire 911 Jalapeno dish for appetizer. This is my second time here, and once again I am less than impressed. Miso soup was a bit cold. The tempura was mushy and the flavors really didnt mix well. The fried jalapenos were overcooked and burned which was a disappointment because I love jalapenos with cheese. Service was decent, not the most approachable and warm for sure. Did not come to refill drinks. Unfortunately this is the only sushi place in the loop 288 area that i can think of and I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon, especially with all the other fantastic sushi places Denton has to offer! read more
