Yumi Roll
Elizabeth J.

We visited Denton's newest sushi spot, Sushi Kai, and really enjoyed it. We ordered the orange chicken and two sushi rolls, and everything was delicious. The orange chicken had just the right amount of spice, and the fried rice was pretty good as well. The portions were huge, so much so we took quite a bit home which was nice! The sushi rolls were also large and delicious. I had the Red River roll, which has tempura shrimp, crab, avocado, and spicy tuna. It was very tasty. My husband ordered the Yumi roll, a baked roll. I tried the spicy crab on top and it was delicious. The service was very good. In fact, they gave us a few bowl of onion soup to welcome us. The soup was excellent! Our waitress was attentive and kind. While it's not quite my favorite sushi place in Denton, it's a very close second. We'll definitely be back to try more!

We stopped in after a full-on shopping spree and ended up having one of those "okay wait... this is actually really good" kind of lunches. Our table was already set with all the basics, plus miso soup (which felt like a bonus win right off the bat). We ordered the gyoza, Big Mouth Roll, and chicken hibachi with steamed rice and veggies--and everything hit. Like, clean plates, no notes, we were not playing around. The staff was super kind and on top of things. Our only hiccup was the gyoza didn't get put in at first, but honestly? The recovery mattered more. Our waiter caught it, apologized, and had it out fast--no awkwardness, no attitude, just handled. And the inside? Total vibe. The kind of place you actually want to sit and hang out for a bit instead of rushing out. We'll definitely be back... probably after our next "we didn't need all that but bought it anyway" shopping trip.

We came in on a Friday night from a dance competition, was seated immediately. I have to say this place has the most reasonably priced sushi I have encountered in a long time. They brought us a bowl of onion soup to start, and we selected the shrimp tempura roll, the salmon avocado roll and the tiger eye roll. My daughter ordered a strawberry milk tea which didn't come out until the end of the meal so we took it to go, and she said it was great! The sushi tastes great, seems fresh, I definitely recommend you give this place a try if you find yourself nearby!

My partner and I find ourselves at sushi kai every week, the staff is very kind and the rolls are always so fresh and delicious. Always a unique display of food each time as well.

Food was great, ordered online for pick up and it was ready at promised time. Store was clean and staff were nice. I got the lunch sushi special. 2 "basic" rolls for $14 and some change. Its a perfect portion. I ate half and took half home. Looking at the menu and pricing, I will for sure be back.

So happy to have this new spot in Denton! We had an incredible dinner at Sushi Kai. The crab stuffed jalapeños are a total game-changer--absolutely amazing flavor and crunch. Huge shoutout to our waitress, Phoebe, who was excellent and made the whole experience even better. Definitely our new go-to sushi spot!!

Great atmosphere. Staff was very friendly as soon as we walked in. Waiter explained the menu and was very helpful. We came for lunch and chose Lunch Bento boxes. Awesome choice! Food was delicious. Food portions were excellent. Started with some soup and main entree was a lot of food. Definitely coming back to Sushi Kai.

If you order sashimi and try that before dippin into your dolled up rolls you can assess the…read morequality of fish the establishment invests in. Did the sashimi check with fatty yellowtail and it melted in my mouth so buttery smooth as it should be! Given that I'm in Japan 5-7x a year I can confirm this is really good sushi. Please don't sleep on it. The establishment is super cute, can host larger groups and the service was great. We went in the evening quite late and was really happy to see that it was open. Many of the other sushi places we go to are closed on Monday', so kudos to Koji for identifying the demand! If you're around don't sleep on this place and let me know what your thoughts!

We started eating here last summer and were impressed with the food, ambience and service. However,…read morethe last 3 times we have eaten here, since October, the food has declined. I consistently get the chicken katsu. The last 3 times it was overcooked and chewy, the breading too brown, and the breading slid off. This last time we went this week in January, and probably our last, service was awful. The young girl barely greeted us and sort of just told us at the middle of the restaurant where to sit. Then, our party of 3 ordered. As our lunch was delivered, my husband didn't get anything. We thought maybe they were just behind. I finally called her over and asked about his meal. Instead of being helpful, she copped an attitude and immediately pulled out her ticket book and said, "No! He didn't order! He said egg rolls!" I looked at her and said, "I heard him order the bento box" and he said he had. My daughter even heard it. She continued to argue and I just told her never mind, I didn't want to argue with her. There were no helpful solutions from her such as, "I am so sorry I didn't hear you (or most likely understand him), why don't I put the order in for you now?" Nope! So we sat awkwardly eating while my husband just sat there. He went next door at Marco's to order a pizza to take home. We eat out a lot and it seems to us this younger generation need lessons on how to talk to people and take accountability. We were nice to her. But she immediately took offense and didn't take steps to attempt to solve the problem. Lazy! We will not return here as these Japanese sushi restaurants are a dime a dozen now.
