We last visited J Marks five years ago following a traumatic event. We had no memory of how the food tasted or what to expect from the service. We wanted to give it another try under much different circumstances -- my wife's birthday. From the moment we sat down we were treated like old friends who were dearly missed. The servers were attentive and professional. Unfortunately, the kitchen was out of the steak cut my wife ordered, but both the server and Dani the manager were quick to respond. I had the hawaiin ribye marinated, and the wife had the mahi mahi blackened sandwich , both served with sweet potato fries. The steak was so tender I thought someone slipped me a marshmallow. The flavors on the steak were bold, and upfront, perhaps a tad less terriaki would suffice. I will ask not to brush extra on next time. The wife enjoyed her mahi mahi, cooked to a turn. She would like just a smidge more blackening seasoning next time. Overall highly reccomend for a nice gathering. read more

I really like eating here. The staff is almost always friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is very comfortable - a little "wood and fern" like, but done with taste. The noise level can get a little high with the live music playing. Their burgers are excellent. I generally have the hickory burger which comes with bacon, cheese, hickory sauce and a couple of outstanding onion rings. Fries are very thin and always hot (at least when they are first served). I have also had the Blackened Chicken Pasta. EXTREMELY rich Alfredo sauce - I could only eat half the portion and the rest made a nice meal the next day. I tried the chicken tenders and they were just OK. The key lime pie is also very good - not too sweet with a crust made from crushed pecans. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE J. MARKS!!! and the Bam Bam Shrimp! Order it every time we go there and we go there about 3 times a month. The Chilean Sea Bass is incredible! And the Crispy Walnut Shrimp is our runner-up favorite. We have never been disappointed. The wait staff is always excellent and professional. Everything is fresh, nothing is frozen and at first they didn't even have a freezer for ice cream which we wanted on their yummy, yummy brownie. Now they have a freezer for only the ice cream! I came here with my friends for his birthday. This place is so busy and was expected for a Friday. We waited about 30 minutes and finally got seated outside. The waiter was very nice but he looked overwhelmed. It took a long time to get our drinks and you can tell the beer my friends ordered was sitting out it was Luke warm when he got it. I waited longer for my drinks to come and we never put in our dinner order in. I saw the Manager greeting other tables and I interrupted him and asked if he could assist our waiter. He did and took our food order and our drinks came right away he even replaced the beers for my friends. He kept checking on us and took control and he was very nice. We were surprised how bad the experience was since it has 4 stars on yelp. Service was poor, slow, and rather strange but at least it provided a few laughs - 3 drink orders wrong, OCD waitress putting out glasses back on napkins, waitress came over and started moving food from large appetizer plate onto our smaller individual plates that we had all clearly eaten off. My beat salad might have been good if they hadn't drowned it in balsamic. My girl asked for well done burger and got rare, while my friend asked for medium and got well-done(likely our confused waitress). We don't get to come here often, but I definitely will make it a point to return when we are in the area. We came post a Chuck E Cheese outing to grab some lunch and it was such a pleasant experience. From the moment we walked in, the hostesses were engaging and paid special attention to my kids. Our server and the manager were so attentive to our table and very accommodating, to us and our kids. Even when I made annoying requests about preparing my food, there was no hesitation to making sure it was done. The kids enjoyed their sliders and chicken tenders and the adults enjoyed our salad, tuna lettuce cups, and prime rib sliders very much. Our drinks were replenished without hesitation. All in all, everyone involved in our dining experience made sure we were happy and was super friendly about it. We celebrated my son's birthday (again) with a slice of cake, which topped off a fantastic experience. And that says a lot, considering the potential of how things could have gone during a sit down meal with two little kids, after leaving Chuck E Cheese. Can't wait to come back :) read more

We went to this restaurant yesterday and our meal was just average. We'd been to the one in Ft. lauderdale and loved it, so we thought we'd try the one in Pompano. I ordered the teriyaki chicken dinner which was served lukewarm with a very tough chicken breast. My partner ordered a fried chicken salad which appeared as though they used fried chicken from the previous night. We won't be returning to this restaurant. read more

My experience with j marks has been nothing short of superb. They have some of the best grilled wings in town, but beyond food, the service is top notch. Visited this place while on vacation in the Pompano area. When this was suggested by the group I was not excited. It was our last night in town, and I did not want to go to a common steakhouse type restaurant that I could visit anytime at home, I wanted seafood but was outvoted. We were quickly seated, and then bombarded with service. At least three people came over to take our drink orders/check on us before our server finally came to introduce himself. He was a decent waiter, but more in-your-face than I typically like my servers to be when I'm at dinner with a group. He would stay at our table to chat and tell jokes, however, he did a good job with our drinks, and the service was prompt. In order to satisfy my seafood craving we started with the bam bam shrimp, which were good, but not the best item like that I've ever had (see Bonefish Bang Bang Shrimp), and followed it up with the salmon salad for my entree. The salad was great, with lots of fresh fruit, and a light yet flavorful dressing. Others in my group had burgers, which they all enjoyed. Since I wasn't expecting much going into this dining experience, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure if this is a restaurant I would seek out again if I'm only in the area for a short period of time, but would definitely consider it, and can see how I would visit frequently if I lived in the area. read more

Rolled into Pompano Beach, asked my daughter to pick a restaurant off Yelp, and J Mark's it was. What a fabulous choice. We were there pretty late, so it was not crowded, but still plenty of diners for a Monday night. Service all around was superb, but the food ... OMG. The Asian Chicken Salad - as good as I have ever had, and I've eaten these many, many times over the years. And the size - really two meals in one. I am trying to skip desserts, but my daughter insisted we get a cheesecake. I said I would try one bite - but this was too tasty so I ended up eating half of it. Thank goodness it was not too big - but so dense and tasty it didn't need to be any bigger. The ambiance was very comfortable, and the noise level was not bad either. In the Pompano Beach restaurant, the food, service, friendliness of waitstaff, cleanliness, and menu choices deserve a 5 star rating. However the background "music" is some sort of techno annoyance that overshadows all the restaurant's good points and makes the dining experience unbearable. We wanted to take friends there, as they want a really great hamburger (J Marks' burgers are definitely in that category), but won't put them through the agony of having to listen to that horrific background noise. read more

Made a reservation for Mother's Day (5/9/21) for my husband, 6wk old daughter, and I but was running late so called the restaurant to notify them. It took me 20mins to arrive instead of 10 and it took another 10mins for them to acknowledge my husband and tell him our reservation was now "out of the rotation." I then spoke to the hostess and was told they would check to see if a table was available. After waiting 10mins I asked for an update and was told by another hostess that she "didn't know why I was told that because they move the reservation out of the rotation after 15mins." I explained I wasn't told that over the phone and if told we wouldn't have showed up. These females were uninformative and unaccomodating! The 2nd female definitely wasn't "friendly....and building a positive lasting relationship for an exceptional dining experience each and every visit." I expressed my disgust of how we were being treated and let her know she'd NEVER have to worry about us again because we wouldn't be back and she was unbothered and uninterested in striving "for perfection" and called herself dismissing me with a wry "OK" as I walked away. It's disappointing to have experienced such a lack of customer service because our first visit was so pleasant but our money was well spent elsewhere and I still enjoyed my Mother's Day. Yawn. Pretty inside, service can be spot on unless busy, then forget it- it takes longer to get your check to leave then ordering and eating. Salads are good, fish and chips has frozen fish, and at $15 -16 should be fresh. I also heard lots of good things, and then realized it was all from older people who love the atmoshere, happy hour, large portions they can take home, and the fact they remeber who you are. We all love that. Seriously. But the food has to warrent the cost. And at a minimum of $45 for an alcoholic drink (HH is until 7 pm), appetizer and entree, I would rather go somewhere else, (and do). I know they have a coupon frequently in the sun sentinal showtime for 25% off their prime rib, but the stories I have heard about people going and waiting to find they are sold out, the beef is tough...I won't bother trying that. They are trying to stay afloat, but the quality has dropped since the recession and it shows in their food. read more

We decided to eat here on a whim and it turned out great. The food was excellent. The prime rib was cooked to perfection, the steamed broccoli was tender and well seaoned, but the best part of the meal was the Maryland style crab cake. I have been trying to find a restaurant that can actually prepare a crab cake correctly, and I finally found one. The crabmeat was lump crabmeat, the breading was just the right amount, and the flavor was amazing. My son had the shrimp scampi and he said the shrimp was melt in your mouth good. Sooooooo.... I'm not sure what sweet Creator made Super Server Trevor.... but OMG.... do yourself a favor and ask to be seated in his section. His attention to customer service is unmatched in the industry. I'm really not certain if he's even human or if he's a cyborg. My wife and I have never experienced kindness and all around amazing service like he provided. I asked if they have sweet tea in true southerner fashion.... Trevor replied a gentle no... but did he stop at the no? Of course not this is Super T (Trevor) for those that failed to remember his name from above... nope... he majestically trotted ... almost hovered it seemed to the kitchen and made me a glass of delicious and refreshing sweet tea that quenched my thirst quickly. Next we tried to stump him with a request of an appetizer version of the chicken tenders which are also not on the menu.... thinking we had him this time he gave a quick rebuttal to our request with "no worries I'll see what I can do!" Minutes later a delicious plate of fresh, made to order, chicken tenders arrived at our table which we quickly devoured... side note.. taught to us by Super T... they use cheeze-its in the tender batter... which explains why we commonly get a hankering for them... Went here for Sunday brunch and while the service was fast and good, the presentation of my meal was not very appealing. I ordered the Belgian Waffles. When I received the dish, it was just 4 plain pieces of waffles with nothing on top of it. The butter, fruit, and syrup came on the side and apparently whipped cream is something we need to ask for. The item tasted fine but I expect a more creative presentation. read more

Really good food. Really good and consistent. Atmosphere is good and busy and noisy but not to noisy. Orange chicken is amazing. Avocado egg rolls are a great appetizer. The bread and butter served is almost too good. Prices recently went up so not a fan of that but what are you going to do. read more
