Service here was remarkable, very cordial. My wife really enjoys liver and onions. Well, I was never crazy about them until now. Liver, mushrooms and onions never tasted so good! It has made me a true fan. We also enjoyed their spanakopita (flaky pastry triangles filled with cheese and spinach), very yummy. I settled on a lamb shank after perusing the menu for quite a while, fall off the bone and super tasty. My better half had the broiled grouper which had a tangy mustard hint of sauce on top, well-cooked and again super tasty. They serve these entries with veggies and rice, etc. Upon entering, they soon brought out some delicious, puffy pita slices with an EVOO & spice dipping sauce. Unfortunately I hate writing bad reviews and I did email the restaurant directly 3 times to give them a chance to make this right. No response. Went to dinner 2/22/26 with a friend that lives local and was excited to eat here. It was crowded but we waited for a table for 2. Several people behind us also waited. We sat down and took a bit for the waiter to come over & take our order which wasn't big 2 entrees and 2 drinks. But he never wrote it down or put it on the little machine they use to enter the order. After sitting for 45 -60 minutes waiting and watching everyone that sat down after us get apps and main course we flagged our waiter down. He admitted he didn't put it in. Hey we all make mistakes but make it right. Said he'd comp us drinks. We were there over 2 hours before we were served our order. Everyone that came in had already had dessert and left!! We missed meetings our friends who had waited for us for over an hour. Instead of making a scene I paid the bill .... with nothing comped. Plus they charge for side of rice we never got. No one ever came over and apologized. The least they could have done was sent a GC to us to try again. Remember something.... When I say there's a lot going on at the Affendi Grill, I mean a lot! And, all of it is pleasing. First of all, the Affendi Grill is huge. There's outside/covered dining available in three different, but closely situated areas. In addition, our very cordial and knowledgeable waitress, Nash mentioned Hookah is offered for those inclined. Now, that's a twist, for sure. The main dining room is adorned with white tablecloths and black napkins, giving it an air of a more formal dining experience. There's also an outside waiting porch area with a small couch. Quite a nice addition. However, the room that stands out the most is in the rear and party ready with a flickering fire on the large wall television. It's all quite impressive. The entire restaurant is very nicely decorated. But, let's not forget the intriguing aroma that welcomes you, tempting your palate, as you are seated and presented with a complimentary dip while you begin viewing their diverse Mediterranean menu, featuring Syrian and Middle Eastern foods. Now for the food. Of the few dishes we shared, they were all extremely well prepared and presented. Nash wasn't wrong when she mentioned that the Sautéed Octopus was often stated to be the best ever tasted. Moist and tender, it was indeed delicious. We tried their Dip Sampler, which was very tasty. One of the BEST new restaurants that opened up with some of the best lunch specials. First of all the restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous! With its big windows and white tall ceilings the restaurant has the most beautiful, open, airy, and light feeling to it. It's romantic (even during the day) and soft and just beautiful. The food here was absolutely delicious. We stopped for lunch and ordered from their lunch menu and both our dishes were amazing, so good. We ordered the falafel appetizer and it was the perfect start to our meal. You can tell the falafel was made fresh because it arrived to the table hot and crispy and full of flavor. For our entrees we ordered the lunch kafta kabob which was served with rice and a salad and the fattoush salad with grilled chicken. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The grilled chicken and kabob were perfectly cooked, soft and tender full of flavor. You get a really nice portion as well even from the lunch menu which was great as well. We ended our meal with their baklava and it was the perfect way to end a great meal. Some places serve the baklava and it's so sweet you can hardly eat it. Here though the baklava was perfect! Just the right amount of sweetness! Service was top notch here as well. Our server was very warm and friendly and came to check on us regularly. The owner of the restaurant stopped by as well to check on us and we were happy to let him know we will be happy to come back real soon for some more great food. We had an excellent lunch here. They've only been open a very short time and are still being "discovered", but you might want to go sooner rather than later. Especially if you like middle eastern food. They will be quite popular soon. The owner is Syrian and has had a couple other restaurants locally. However, our waiter was from Turkey originally so my husband got to practice the few Turkish words he remembers from being there years ago. The staff is multi cultural so English is no problem. The restaurant is located at the old Umbertos just before the intracoastal bridge on the south side. There's ample parking. They have a dining room in front and outside patio dining to come. They are working on the back room for future private events and parties, too. There is a lunch menu with specials -- quite reasonably priced. However, we chose to share a few appetizers/starters instead from their regular menu. We loved their spinach pies. The filo dough was so light and flaky. They were served hot and freshly made. We also shared their meat grape leaves. Packed with rice and a some ground lamb, they were lemony and tasty. We also had their chicken livers. They were sauteed with onions and mushrooms. My husband liked these a lot. They were good, but they were not my first choice. We chatted with another couple dining there. They liked the felafel and loved the meat pies. We did not know what to expect when entering the new Affendi Grill. The ambience is upscale and very nice. The service was terrific and the food was outstanding. Hubby ordered the Gyro sandwich and I chose to have the lamb shank as it was recommended from a friend. Both choices were fabulous. The lamb shank was cooked to perfection, meat falling off the bone with seasonal vegetables. When we were preparing to leave the sky opened up pouring down rain, and Cory gave us an umbrella to allow us to get to our car without drowning! I used to dine at a cute little Mediterranean Restaurant near Pompano Beach. Food was good, ambiance was so so. But then the people who opened it sold it off and it reopened as Cuban. Why am I telling you all this? Because those great people moved across the bridge and reopened in an out of business Umberto's location. They named it Affendi. Completely remodeled inside, the restaurant is light and airy. The people running it met us at the door and warmly greeted us. Our server was Daniel who was warm, friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We started off with the dip assortment served with fresh pita bread. It was delicious. Then we ordered Beef Kabob, the Gyro platter, Galaba and a Tawook sandwich. The food was prepared perfectly and served quickly. We passed on dessert as it was Canasta night back at home but we promised to come back soon. BTW they have a nice lunch menu as well. read more

A friend met up with me for lunch so we shared some food. Yummy. The falafel was yummy and I'm usually partial to Egyptian falafel "Tamaya." The rice from the mixed grill had some flavor it was good. The service was excellent (thank you Daniel) and the artwork on the walls are beautiful. Helpful tip: I asked the waiter if the food was halal he mentioned just the lamb. First, the transformation of this former pizza place is astounding! I judge Mediterranean restaurants by their baba ganoush so ordered it while looking over the menu. ***** Their baba ganoush was the best I've had in Florida! Very generous portion served with warm, soft pita bread. 5 stars! My husband's benchmark is kabobs and he enjoyed each of the three in the combo platter. My lamb chops rivaled the best in the area (its initials are GIT). Each entree came with rice and steamed veggies. We knew the restaurant when it served Italian food, and the new owner (who had been the original owner of Mora Grill) did a splendid job of opening the space and making it very appealing. read more

The vegetable grape leaves were also fresh and flavorful. For the main course, I had the kebab platter featuring three types of meat, each cooked to the perfect temperature and well seasoned, the Mediterranean salad, which came with a very generous portion of salmon and a chicken tawook sandwich with fries that was a generous size and was devoured! I heard great things about Affendi Grill so I came to check it out with my husband for dinner. We were greeted & seated by Mayyor, the manager. When the server came over, we ordered drinks. When we ordered our appetizer- hubby had fried smelts & I ordered the sausage- unfortunately- they didn't have that so I chose meat pies. Both apps were delicious. Oh- forgot to mention, we got some fresh- out of the oven- pita bread with a dip with seeds in it. We dipped the pita & it was so good. Hubby also ordered a fava bean salad- which was huge! I had a taste & it was really good. For the mains, I had grilled grouper & hubby had the mixed grill. The grouper was nicely seasoned & had a bit of spicy vibe. The mixed grill was great & hubby said he would definitely order it again. This restaurant recently opened. They have a beautiful outdoor dining area as well as murals inside.
