We bought a new AC unit from JL Cantrell a few years ago, and last night, when it's the hottest it's been all summer, our AC went out. Of course, that's apparently in the book of rules, just at the most opportune time, right? So, my husband texted Jeff, with the company and he responded first thing this morning and actually came out to the house before noon and replaced the faulty capacitor AT NO CHARGE!!! who does this anymore?? He methodically looked at our current systems and came up with right system and size for our house. He did not over sell us or make recommendations that weren't necessary or appropriate for our home. Jeff is, without a doubt, the nicest and most honest technician I have ever used. We hired him several years ago to fix our (very old) AC, and he was very reasonably priced and got the job done right away. (He didn't try to talk me into a new system, which impressed me as well.) Since then, I have called him at least once a summer when something with our AC acts up. He always calls me back and talks me through a few things to troubleshoot the problem. Trustworthy and Honest! When my house AC stopped working I got bids from Burgeson's and others for the replacement of the unit and furnace. JL Cantrell had the lowest bid (by thousands) for the same service. Both the bid process and installation were great! Jeff and Noah were professional and knowledgeable every time I talked to them. They are good people and unlike some other repair services, I had no problem giving them full access to my house. Their work was great and the install looks very clean. Appreciate the customer service and the prompt response. *** I typically don't like to do reviews, especially negative ones. However, my experience with JL Cantrell has been pretty disappointing. I had an initial appointment set up with to replace a copper line. The day of no one showed for an hour and I had to call and remind them they had an appointment with me. Subsequently, they were supposed to do a follow up appointment to check for a refrigerant leak. The first time I set it they said they ran late and had to reschedule. The second time they just no showed and the third time, after verifying appointment in the morning, they said they would to reschedule. When I responded and said I really need it checked today, they have simply stopped responding. Horrible customer service, especially from a family owned company that claims to pride itself on serving the local company. Very very disappointed. read more

Wow I am so thankful we found J L Cantrell! My Mother is elderly and her AC went out while I was out of town. She tried to contact several providers but could not get anyone to come out. I sent a request through Yelp once I got back into town and Jeff with J L Cantrell responded very quickly. I spoke to Jeff at 7:40 a.m. and he scheduled us right away. He arrived at my Mom's house around 9:30 a.m. and started to work on the AC immediately. It took maybe 10 minutes for him to diagnose the problem. He had the necessary part with him and it was an American made part! We were happy to hear that as we knew it would last longer than an imported part from China. Within 20 minutes or so the new part was on and the AC was fixed! I was relieved as it has been over 100 degrees and that is especially hard on an elderly person. In regards to the price charged, I knew it was fair as I had recently had the same problem and I actually paid a little more. Since my Mom was a senior, Jeff gave her a discount and we didn't even ask for a discount! After he left, he sent me a text and asked for my Moms name and phone number so he could put her information into his system. He is really close by and wanted to make sure he responds quickly if she needs him in the future. After taking estimates from about a dozen companies, I chose to go with JL Cantrell. They were the perfect combination of affordability and quality for me. Home Depot, Lowes, Burgeson's, All-Pro were all crazy expensive. Then I interviewed some smaller companies who ended up being cheaper but they didn't have the reputation or quality of JL. The owner, Jeff, is super reasonable and easy to deal with. My favorite qualities about him are that he never pressured me into a decision and he honestly works with his clients. Of course it would have to be the hottest day thus far this year (106*F) when one of our AC units decides to stop working, and we have the great misfortune of discovering this after we get home from work late in the evening. I immediately told my husband that I'm calling Jeff of JL Air Conditioning & Heating. Just as an aside, Jeff came over to fix one of our AC units for the first time last summer. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and made it a point to take care of us - then strangers - as quickly as possible, as it was so hot outside. After he fixed that unit, we asked him to check our second AC unit just in case, and he agreeably did a few weeks later. Mind you, he wouldn't take a payment for fixing the first unit until after he checked the second one out. He really treats all his customers the way he would like to be treated, and his prices are honest and reasonable. For these reasons, my reaction in the event anything goes haywire with our hearing/cooling is to call/text Jeff who responds very quickly - as in within minutes of you contacting him. After I texted our emergency situation to Jeff around 6:45 PM today, he responds and asks when we would like him to come by. Fortunately for us, he was able to come by this evening at 8:30-ish. He finds that a part is broken and tells us that he has to go get that part. He returns, works his magic, and voilà! Our AC unit is back in service! He is finally finished for the day and gets to go home after 9:30 PM. Now that is what I call spectacular customer service. The icing on the cake is that his pricing was just incredibly honest and so reasonable. I've been working with Jeff, going on my 3rd year. I live in the Mountains, in Twin Peaks. Jeff has rescued me many times. He came when I first moved in my cabins, with 3-6 feet of snow. How do I add extra stars. I believe in doing business with people who do business with me. Even though we are about 2 to 2 1/2 hours away from Redlands, Jeff has come to San Diego to do business with me for several years. When I knew that I was going to need a new HVAC system in the near future I called Jeff. He was kind enough to stop by on a Sunday when he was in San Diego with his wife for the weekend. He looked over what was needed and then when I was ready I called him. We scheduled the removal of the old unit and then the installation of the new one. The efficiency of the new unit is far above the old and Jeff redid the ducting to improve air distribution and balance the flow. The local HVAC companies that I talked to all tried to tell me what I should do based on what their company had available, Jeff listened to what I was looking for and gave me a way to accomplish it. The result is improved heating and cooling and a lower utility bill. I could have gone with a local company, but most of them wouldn't even return my phone calls when I was looking for their business. We were so fortunate to find Jeff and Noah! On the hottest weekend of the summer, our AC decided to go out. Even though it was the weekend and after hours, Jeff still answered his phone. We explained our situation and he showed up within 15 minutes. We had tried calling a few other companies, but they were either unavailable or charged an outrageous weekend emergency fee. It's very hard to find a honest business that provides quality work in a trade such as AC repair, especially during the summer. My husband and I have heard stories from friends and family who were charged outrageous prices to have their ACs fixed during summer and we thought for sure, we would be in that boat. Thank goodness for JL Cantrell! Last night (Saturday) our AC decided to give out on us. It's been in triple digits this whole weekend so we expected this to be a pricey fix, but it needed to be fixed. My husband and I began looking online and Yelping for someone who could come out and take a look at our AC knowing it's a weekend and also Father's Day. After reading JL's amazing reviews, my husband called and left Jeff a message, figuring we would receive a call back in the morning, but he contacted my husband within minutes! Keep in mind this was roughly around 9:15pm on a Saturday night. Jeff confirmed he would be at our house between 9am-10am. He arrived as schedule and was very friendly. It was 4:30 on a Friday night, and we already had an AC repair-man out. The first guy couldn't help us unless we shelled out $500, so we decided to pass. We called around and no one was available for a week out, but then we found Jeff's number on Google, and he came over within 2 hours. He was on his way home from something personal, but he said he would stop by to check things out. He was able to diagnose and repair our issues efficiently and accurately. Of course this happened on a Friday evening, and I assumed that I would have to wait until Monday for service, after a HOT weekend. Thank goodness for J L Cantrell. Even before his visit, Jeff was texting me helpful information when our AC kept blowing its breaker (take a garden hose to the fins). Oddly, the hosing washed out junk from a tree we had cut down ten years ago, this AFTER our spring maintenance from a firm in Yucaipa. Jeff made several visits, and got upstairs/downstairs AC units working right. The upstairs unit had been declared dead - needing replacement - by my former AC service firm (days after it was working). Jeff discovered that the upstairs unit had zero coolant.
