This review is regarding J.Crew's Bridesmaid collection and stylist at the Michigan Avenue store only. My friend decided to go with J.Crew for her bridesmaid dresses and as soon as she announced it, I scheduled an appointment with her stylist, Andrew, at the store. Andrew was very organized, he had pulled almost all styles in the fabric that the bride selected and gave me a rundown on fit/sizing before I tried anything on. The store has a wide variety and reasonable sizes available so you weren't completely swimming in the dress. He let me select the particular styles I wanted to try on and was super helpful with pinning and securing with each dress. At the end of the appointment I was undecided between a few dresses. Andrew wrote down each style and size for each dress I was considering. A couple days later I called and placed my order. What's so nice about ordering from J.Crew is that you can buy and return. They waived the shipping charges, extended the return policy, and eliminated the final sale rule for any styles marked so. It was really nice to be able to try the dresses on at home in your actual size to make a final decision. Bottom line, great experience as a bridesmaid. I know the bride is very happy with her decision to go with J.Crew as well. J CREW BRIDAL REVIEW: I took two bridesmaids and my mother to check out bridesmaids dresses. The appointment was fantastic. Andrew was extremely helpful during our hour. I appreciated that he was honest about what styles will look best on different body shapes. He clearly understands the product he is selling. I have 7 bridesmaids and they all picked different dresses. He also offered suggestions for complimentary shoe and suit colors. For my out of town bridesmaids, he was able to process all of their orders no problem. Even offered them flexible returns if they changed their mind on size and style. Maybe it's my own fault for not double checking the return receipt, but someone at the store goofed and put down a return for the wrong purchase. I ordered several items online and decided to return a few through the store--BIG MISTAKE! The items I returned were two skirts and an exchange for a cardigan. One of the skirts (which I bought full price) was returned, but it turns out they put the return for another item I bought, which was on sale. So long story short, I'm short about $50 since the sales people in the store messed up and marked a return for another item that I still have and took away the more expensive item I returned without reimbursing me for it. I should've double checked it, but silly me assumed that the sales people marked down everything correctly. I highly doubt I can call and refute anything either, since the return receipt has the wrong item marked. Very frustrated right now. read more

I cannot thank this store (Eliot, manager and Andrew) for helping to bail my son out of a "pants emergency." On the way to an interview from out of town he realized he did not have pants to his suit and was going to arrive after the store closed. The interview was to start before the store opened. After a huge bout of panic, they helped me get him the pants, right size and color and have it delivered to his hotel while he was on the flight. The ripple effect of their customer service and kindness is amazing. I am so appreciative of their help and believe me so is my son!! Hope he gets the job. I have worn their suits for...well...a long time! They hold up well, are not too terribly expensive and as I've mentioned before...baby got back. That said, I need suits that fit well. I also love how they have pretty good sales. I 'work' in my suits, so I can't imagine spending too much for them...that said, I tend to favor J Crew, The Limited and Ann Taylor. But, I have to agree with the other reviewers...the people at this particular store are a bit "frosty". I really noticed it this past weekend when I was in Cincinnati. The sales team in Cinci were fantastic...helpful but not hovering...smiled...made eye contact...acted like they actually thought I was a real human being!? Hmmm. Perhaps the group on MI Ave could learn a few things? Sidebar: I have found that many of the stores in Chicago are like this...the sales associates talk amonst themselves, joke, file their nails...do anything but actually SALE their merchandise?! this review is for the personal stylist service at this store only: so I got a coupon of JCrew's very personal stylist: 20% off $250 purchase if you book an appointment. I was eager to update my autumn wardrobe and then sent an email for an appointmentment last Friday. while they claim that I should get response in 48 hours, I ddin't receive any responses until this Wednesday, when of course, my coupon expired! but I still would like to meet the stylist expecting some 'personal' advice on what pieces I should get so my figure looks flattering. I booked an appointment with Lila Palmer at 6:30pm this Thursday. overall, my experience with Lila is very, very disappointing! so if you every would like to use the personal stylist service, please run away from JCrew! first, she would only recommend super-over-price items to you and keep lying about how fabulous you look in the mirror! I know I'm too naive on this, as it's definitely the way those stylists make money! but in my point of view, providing the customer a more pleasant experience is the way you can win back them, isn't it? second, she selects expensive pieces based on her perferences, not you! I have dark/tan skin tone and am quite picky about colors while she always gave me dark tops, light colored bottoms which make my face look darker, make my thighs look like elephant legs! third, she doesn't pay attention of what you want at all! I told her again and again that I want to look prefesisonal but 'young', while she gave me pieces which are of my Mom's age! I personally don't think 'dressing professional' equals to ' looking like a 40 year old Mom with 2 kids'! overall, the experience with the personal stylist Lila is terrible and a total disaster! if you are thinking about getting professional guidance based on your body shape and preferences, this is not the place to go! read more

No words can explain how fabulous this location is. From the moment I walk in till I leave everybody is so kind to make sure that I have been helped. Many of the items that I want are available in select stores and this is where I can get them all. Plus, very few stores in the U.S carry jewelry and I couldnt believe when I found out that this one does. Just recently, I have had a nice women call me from the store to notify me when new clothes come in and put them on hold for me. Since, one of the their down falls is that, some of the items can sell out by the time the catalogue comes in the mail. LASTLY, the cashmere... Less than $200 and so AMAZING. read more

JCREW BRIDAL REVIEW: They will soon need their own wedding store...The Jcrew bridal is tucked away into their full retail store, and was slightly cramped. The attendants were fantastic, very helpful and knowledgeable about trends, and gave great feedback on what we were trying on. The only complaint was the space... They didn't have any wedding gowns or bridesmaid dresses available to view on racks or display, ,...they just asked us what we liked and wanted to see form the catalogues they showed us and brought them out a few at a time...It would have been much more helpful to be able to view and thumb through the dresses side by side all of the available styles. Also, They moved our bridal party in the middle of the fitting to the mens dressing rooms, it was very uncomfortable to be trying the dresses on and coming out with men all over the place. But, other then that, it was a beautiful store with beautiful dresses. read more

CONSULT THEIR PERSONAL SHOPPERS My sister & I had the most useful, efficient shopping experience at this store bc the personal shopper, LOUIS, was so talented & helpful. At first we were wandering around rather aimlessly but we asked for help & the closest stylist was Louis. We were so happy it was him! We told him what my sisters realistic wardrobe needs were (she has 3 young boys), her schedule, her current style & the style updating she wanted. With that little yet specific information, he went, unbidden, around the store & gathered a complete mix & match wardrobe. We wandered around aimlessly some more until he told us the dressing room was ready. The outfits were professionally styled: creative, pulled together, eclectic & accessorized. We were not shy in asking him to pull items from the sales rack. Just tell him what your needs are & let him go to work. You won't have to shop or think about your wardrobe for the rest of the season (or your life!). He will take your look from nice/ok to fabulous & wow thats a great outfit. Even the espadrille heels & patent tortoise flip flops were perfect for her. Now she has great, comfortable & chic! outfits for all her activities: soccer & baseball games, grocery shopping, mom meetings, casual lunches & summer dinners. The garments were not too delicate-- they were all machine washable, wrinkle resistant, in general, kid proofed but paired and placed with the other pieces, were interesting, confidently styled outfits. He selected three belts: a striped woven tie, a wide brown punched out leather one & a striped cloth one w a metal buckle. And much, much more. Though we did not purchase some of the items we could get somewhere else, he was able to show us how it all goes together. His ensembles were fabulous & so appropriate for her taste & needs. He took her out of her comfort zone--comfortably. We're so grateful to him. (there was another stylist working with a customer who was also very talented.) I love that we dont have to make anymore unwise, unguided wardrobe purchases. I will never make another redundant, uninteresting, overpriced mistake that will hang in my closet to remain untouched. And i most love the fact that i dont have to think about my outfits anymore. Its such a relief. He absolutely knows what he is doing so I'm just going to let him do it! We can't wait to see visit him again! The best thing about his assistance is I know i am getting the most for my money. I know it was a wise & efficient purchase. (we did try stopping by the 'at your service' office in bloomingdales. The stylist happened to be out pulling some items, but we were a little wary they might expect us to spend an amount that was not realistic for our wardrobe needs. I've been a customer of J.Crew for years and while I have never written a review about one of their stores before, I couldn't help but do so. When shopping at a chain store, I know what to expect, and out of all of the chain clothiers, I put J.Crew near the top. Generally speaking, their staff are helpful but not pushy and their quality is 4.5 Stars. You might be asking why I am writing a review now after being a customer for years..... Well, the answer is Veronica. Being that I usually show at boutiques and am used to personal shoppers I sometimes cringe when I go into a "Chain Store". First of all, their new store is nicely laid out. Okay, back to Veronica. She didn't know me from "Adam" and she went above and beyond in spending significant time with me recently and was a joy to work with. Being used to working with higher end boutiques, to have someone with her knowledge, honesty and charisma working in a J.Crew (no offense J.Crew, you are amazing) blew my mind. I felt as if I was paying her by the hour. The coolest thing (yes I was sorta jealous) was that she had to slip away from me for a few minutes because apparently a regular, or someone more famous than me (yea right - kidding) that knew her by name wanted her opinion on a certain outfit. Anyway. It was only after the sales transaction that i learned she was the store manager. The fact that she was willing to get her hands dirty, work with a "stranger", and not force threads down my throat was refreshing. I've found my favorite J.Crew store and now have my favorite, internal, personal shopper. Thanks JCrew - Thanks Veronica! I love you; i can't say the same for the future balance of my checking account! They have helped me with multiple of the Ludlow suits and between helping me get the right size, shipping, return for a different color, etc. they have always been very happy to help. I love J.Crew. If I am not Super Fan #1, then I must at least be in the top 10. OK, anyway...I mainly order online but I'm getting married next year, so when it comes to wedding dresses, I kind of need to see what I am getting. I will say this: the company itself bent over backwards to help get the dresses I liked into the Chicago store for me to try on. They were not able to send my exact size, but we got close. I loved one of them, but as with Priscilla of Boston, I was not quite ready to make a decision. Then I got slapped with the..."there is only one left in your size in the entire country and it is on backorder" pressure. True, you have a very generous return policy with J.Crew that you don't get with other wedding shops. But...I just don't appreciate the pressure. WHY is there only one left? I don't want to spend $2K and have that missing from my bank account when there might be another dress out there I would like better, you know? So I didn't buy it. Let the fates decide. On the positive side, my consultant was cute, quick, smart, knowledgable and very friendly. The private fitting room is calm and very nice. And she treated my mother and me exceedingly well. I would love for her to get her commission from my purchase, but I can't bite the bullet just yet... read more

I was VERY disappointed with the bridal services at this store. I went with my friend who made an appointment for noon to try on 3 bridal dresses. We left our previous appointment, rushing to get to J Crew only to be left wandering the store for 20 minutes while the sales associate finished up her previous appointment. In addition to a very late start, the girl went to take a phone call for a majority of the appointment. I was left to assist my friend with her dresses rather than the sales associate. I helped her with getting them on, fitting them, taking them off, and hanging them up. Wedding dress shopping is a big moment for brides and they should be made to feel special, not second best to other customers and store issues. If we had been trying on regular clothes and didn't have an appointment fine....but a bride with an appointment should be treated with some sense of importance. I was though impressed with their bridal collection. The dresses were beautiful, elegant and VERY affordable. I was unaware of the bridal collection offered by J CREW, and the dresses were a plesant surprise. read more

I am a big fan of Jcrew and shop here as much as my limited expendible budget allows so when my best friend decided to do Jcrew bridesmaid dresses for her wedding I was pretty excited. First off the staff is reasonably attentive and friendly, but I dont really feel like they know much about the sizing, particularly petites. Unfortunately my love for Jcrew and my particular size do not coincide all the time as petites are not available in most stores. I have had to return items several times due to inaccurate size estimates in store, particularly at this location. This would be fine if popular items at Jcrew didnt sell out so fast. One item in paricular was the lady day coat in the colbalt blue color that I had told my mom to order for christmas with the petite size estimate provided to me by a sales associate. Unfortunately, by christmas morning I had the wrong size and the item was completely sold out in the correct size . Luckily another location was able to locate a returned one in St. Louis and send it to me. This happend again a couple more times so I was very wary when making the appointment for the dress fitting but the sales associate assured me they would have a petite sample that they could fit me from. The morning of the fitting comes and ofcourse no petite samples in store so the woman fit me in a regular size. At 4'11 the empire waist fell almost to my hips and the dimensions were completely off. The woman advised me to get an 8p (I never size higher than a 4p). I knew bridesmaid dresses fit differently but based on my past experience with Jcrew I was pretty frustrated and had a feeling she was wrong so I went with the 6p to be safe. I just recieved the 6p in the mail and it still fits a little big but I want some room for alterations anyway since the dimensions are still a little off (I was estimated a size and a half bigger? wth). Another bridesmaid had scheduled a separate appointment and had stated that she didnt feel like she got a really good opinion of her size either and felt like she had to go with her own gut feeling to make the order. Overall, things I own from Jcrew range from a 0-6. I go to the store so I dont have to order several sizes online at a time. Jcrew, please better train your staff on petites! read more

Wedding appt. I had a wedding dress and bridesmaid appt for two months. When I arrived at this wedding location. I had to ask two sales associates where the wedding section was. The wedding stylist was young, but nice. She was a few mins late because no one told her that we were there. Once she came out, We walked into the back to find a small, dirty section, the size of a closet. The dresses were all stuffed into a small closet and the bridesmaids dresses were stacked next to them. The dress that I wanted to try on wasn't even pulled out. This was a serious disappointment. I didn't feel special as it's a special day to get a wedding dress. I would not recommend this location, maybe other Jcrew stores actually have a wedding section, not a small dirty closet. Very trashy JCrew. I expected something more for being downtown Chicago with a wedding appt with you. Two thumbs down. read more

I love J Crew. My closet is full of them and I don't know where else I'll go to buy my clothes. I recently moved to Chicago and of course, this was my one-stop shop. The staff is so friendly and they cooperate with each other to provide the best service. But something really bothered me. A man guarding the women's fitting rooms? When I walked out to look at myself in the full mirror, he came out of nowhere and gave me comments on how he likes the color. He then said I might need a different size because the back of the shorts was too tight. Excuse me?! Did this guy just comment on my body? I ended up just leaving the fitting room and purchasing it. I'm going to come back to this store to shop some more, but only when that guy isn't there read more

JCrew Bridal - Went her for bridesmaid dresses and the consultant was not friendly or enthusiastic. The process was disorganized and it seemed like we were a pain even though we had an appointment. They were out of the colors I wanted and out of everything in the satin fabric. Everything they had was the chifon, which is fine, but theirs is silk chifon which is kind of scratch and didn't look very nice, in my opinion, especially given how expensive their dresses are. I suppose if I'd liked any of their dresses, my experience would have been better. But in my opinion, if you are taking your bridesmaids out to try on dresses, you expect to be treated a little bit better than we were treated at JCrew. It wasn't a "fun" experience there, as opposed to some of the other places we went. read more

Last Saturday 5 of my bridesmaids and myself drove 6.5 hours to try on the bridesmaid collection at the closest J Crew Bridal salon to our hometown. We worked with Jessica and I can honestly say that our experience was fantastic! She was very friendly and extremely knowledgable about each of the dresses that we tried on. She explained the ordering process, the easy return process and even gave us a discount on the dresses that we purchased. I am so, so happy that we decided to make the trek to Chicago and I would recommend this store to anyone for their great customer service and expertise. read more

This is a review for their bridal department (and I wish I'd read the reviews before making an appointment so I'd known what to expect). I made an appointment over the phone and the guys who returned my calls were lovely, so I was excited. As others have mentioned, they stuffed my guests into a room the size of a walk in closet, which my party took in stride, but I was so surprised knowing J Crew's dedication to customer service. The small platform the have for brides to stand on in front of the three way mirror is RIGHT up against the mirror, so there's not a lot of room to get the full effect. The lighting is also typical dressing room lighting, so not flattering at all. The girl who helped me was nice but didn't seem particularly skilled in clipping the dresses and everything looked ill fitting and awkward on me (this wasn't my first bridal appointment and I've never had that problem before. I'm a size zero, and I've had other bridal associates make me look good in a size 10). The dresses themselves are beautiful, so if you want to squeeze into a closet for something simple and beautiful it's worth it, but be forewarned you're not going to have the full bridal experience. My recommendation to the store would be to give customers a heads up before heading in so they can adjust their expectations. read more
