I've been shopping J.Crew since high school days but this review is actually for their wedding staff. Booking an appointment is done over the phone which almost seems archaic these days. The first appointment, we were told that they running almost 45 minutes late and honestly, I wasn't about to pay for another 45 minutes of parking downtown so we told them that we would reschedule. But once we did get in, Sam was AMAZING. I loved working with Sam who was intuitive and super helpful. She pulled all the dresses that was requested and then, some. She asked the right questions and even pulled a dress that wasn't even available on the website so I could try it on. I noticed that there was a sale promo going on and Sam confirmed that yes, I could apply a 25% discount on even the bridesmaid dresses. I was super psyched to order my dress and get it on sale. Thank you for helping me find my Matron of Honor dress that I will actually rewear again and for helping me stay within budget! If all wedding reps are like Sam, I'd gladly go back again in a heartbeat. read more

I've been coming to this store since I was a wee lass who was finally able to fit into the clothes she'd been coveting in catalogs. Naturally, I checked out their bridal when it came time to find my dress. And, true to form, I ultimately chose a JCrew gown. It's simply stunning. Elegant without being fussy and beautifully crafted. I love it and can't wait to wear it down the aisle. Jessica, the bridal specialist who helped us out at this store, was friendly and funny. When we came in we'd actually already purchased my gown, but had been trying on other dresses at regular bridal salons, just to make sure my purchased gown was IT. Well, while she may have thought we were a little nuts, she didn't show it, and gladly clipped me into the sample. As soon as I put it on again I knew - after a day of trying on some beautiful gowns and finding some serious contenders - this was IT. I came out of here the other day with a brand new barn jacket, anorak, and roll neck sweater. For those you who are old enough to remember what those were...ha ha ha. Recently, there is a trend I see forming online and in stores to becoming more of a full on shopping experience. Carrying a variety of carefully picked out items and brands!! So you may find shoes from Sperry, hunting coats from Barbour, or a motorcycle jacket from Belstaff. Excellent! Right on! Exactly what I wanted to see! Combining the classic stylings from J.Crew and combining it with the "other brands' actually strengthens the JCREW label. How? By showing J.Crew actually has good taste. :) The service at this store is attentive, professional, and helpful. I recently got engaged and decided to use J. Crew's line for my bridesmaids. So, I am only reviewing the J. Crew bridal part of the store. I have been in for bridesmaids appointments 3 times, with a total of 4 girls so far. Each time we went, we had a great time. If you use them, keep in mind that you may have to find a sales associate in the store and tell them you are there for a bridal appointment. Otherwise, they may just think you're shopping. We met with Rachel twice and Andrew once. They are both extremely helpful and a combination of considerate and funny, which I sincerely appreciated. It wasn't so stuffy that it became uncomfortable - it just felt like talking to real people about real dresses. I believe Andrew is who I spoke with on the phone. Sometimes it is hard to get someone on the phone, which I'm guessing is a good sign in a sense (they're busy!), but they always do a wonderful job of returning voice mails, so I have gotten into the habit if just leaving very detailed voice mails so that they get the most information possible and are able to take action. As a few people have mentioned, the greatest thing about using J Crew's Bridal/Bridesmaid line is that you can easily buy, ship, exchange, return, etc for free. If you order through the store, they give you a discount, and will also waive your shipping fee. read more

Stopped in a few Saturdays ago. It was really busy but I needed some new fall clothes. Brad helped me find several cool outfits and shoes that I could wear and layer differently. He was very knowledgable about the products and fits. I will definitely come back in and ask for Brad when I'm ready to shop for winter. I have been a loyal J. Crew fan for about 10 years and it pretty much fills my entire closet, so it was only fitting that I try it out for my wedding gown. I set up an appointment at the Michigan Ave store with Jessica, the bridal consultant. It was at 9am on a Saturday, before the shop opens, so we had it to ourselves! After trying on several options, I was not happy with any the styles I had liked online. Then, Jessica suggested one that I hadn't thought of and as soon as I put it on, I knew it was THE DRESS. I couldn't believe it! She pinned down my style based on all my commentary of the other dresses and found the perfect one! The gowns sizing is the same as any other J. Crew dress, which was so convenient. However, since I do not have a model figure, my dress needed extensive alterations. I highly recommend seeking a quality seamstress since J. Crew does not get involved with that. After all the work was done, it was just lovely. I was so comfortable on my wedding day! Since J. Crew defines my style, I also had all my bridesmaids order their dresses from there as well. Each bridesmaid chose a style that fit them best. Everyone was happy and looked stunning! They even give you little perks if you ask - they all got free shipping, 10% off, and J. Crew extended the return/exchange policy through the date of the wedding (I guess in case the wedding was cancelled - yikes!). Overall, we were all happy and looked great. I don't know how their pricing is, but they certainly had lots of different clothing. At the end of the shopping trip, I can't say we purchased anything this time. I started a Yelp account for the sole purpose of reviewing this J.Crew. I've got a wedding in three days and, as usual, I waited till the last minute to get a new suit. When I stopped by earlier this afternoon, after a marathon work session, I hadn't slept in 24 hours, my head was throbbing, and I felt like a zombie. In other words, I was in no mood for the stress of shopping for what I was sure would be 1K worth of new clothes. I must have been telegraphing my anxiety because Helen Baker, the personal style for the Michigan Avenue store, intercepted me as I was thumbing through the different jackets. Over the next thirty minutes, she single-handedly assembled the perfect outfit for the occasion. She was dead-on about my jacket size (40) just from eyeballing me. She helped me determine the best color, the best fabric (she knew everything about every material), the best size and fit; she picked out a perfect shirt, tie, and pocket square; she told me what shoes to wear, what socks to wear, and how to style everything. What's more, she could not have been nicer, more attentive, or more enthusiastic. She worked quickly, efficiently, and decisively but solicited my feedback the entire time. I felt totally comfortable with her. She also didn't push me into anything and clearly had my best interest in mind: she helped me save 20% on everything (suit jacket, suit pants, shirt, tie, pocket square); I only paid $750 for the whole outfit, which, I mean, is just nuts. I had been in such a bad mood heading in but was elated by the time I left. In short, I recommend this location if only for the immensely talented, highly competent, super affable Helen. (Though it should be noted that the store's selection is the biggest in the Midwest--the North Avenue location, which I stopped by first, had a tiny fraction of the suiting attire.) Michigan Avenue is a trek for me, but I'll gladly make it whenever I need to update the J.Crew in my wardrobe if it means working with Helen. read more

I like J. Crew for some basics here and there and sometimes you'll find some great summer dresses here that are of quality and cute and borderline sexy. I don't do all my shopping here but I constantly find that what I do end up buying is comfortable and lasts for years. This is a great location with a good selection. Expect more conservative, classic style... duh it's J. Crew. Again.. summer dresses ladies.. it's here or Nordstrom, sometimes Urban Outfitters for me. read more

Oh how I love J. Crew. I've been a big fan since my teenage years, and I've grown to love them even more as I get older. Most of the staff is super friendly, and they are really great about making suggestions based on what I've already picked out. They pretty much have their whole collection in this store, and there are always new items on sale! I love their casual wear, flirty dresses, cardigans, sweaters, summer beach wear, bikinis and flip flops. My only gripe is that they don't have their full shoe selection here! Weekends are crazy here. You're better off shopping during the week. read more

This is for a Bridal Appointment. I came here to try on wedding dresses. It was awful. They put you & your friends/family in a dressing room area that is far too compact when there was an entire area with couches right outside. The woman helping was OK, but the first thing she asked me was, "do you have a list of dresses you want to see?" I thought this was odd. I figured we'd be in a room with their dresses hanging so I could pick which ones I wanted to wear, just like any typical bridal shop. Nope...no catalog, nothing. So we were frantically looking on our phones to check out their website. So I mentioned a few I liked, they didn't have them. What? Why? When I finally found one I liked, she brought them out and they were filthy. Absolutely, disgusting to the point I didn't even want to touch them. We were so turned off by this experience that my friends were like, don't even bother... this is such a waste of time! They didn't even want to touch the bridesmaids dresses. The associate really wasn't helpful, pretty negative and just seemed pretty clueless. I do not recommend this location at all, which is a shame since they have very few bridal locations. J. Crew must not value this part of their business because it's severely neglected. Save your time and go elsewhere. read more

Ok, first of all I NEVER buy regular priced items at J crew. So really to me J crew is more like $$/$$$$. I have been shopping at J crew for a while, at least for the past 7 years or so. I have noticed that the quality of their craftsmanship have diminished, also their style don't seem as distinctive as as refreshing. J crew used to look iconically different from Gap, Banana Republic and Ann Taylor, now I feel like I can buy the same shirt somewhere else for cheaper and maybe even better quality. While this is saddening, I will be basing my rating more on THIS particular J crew. This J crew is actually one of the better ones I have visited. I am very impressed actually. It is inside a mall establishment, so it is not a stand alone store. Located on the second floor. The store is quite spacious for being inside a mall. I also loved that it's on the second floor and along the wall there are glass panel windows overlooking magnificent mile. I felt very luxurious shopping at this store, though J crew is higher end, I do not always get this feeling at all J crew stores. I forgot my student ID and the clerk gladly gave me student discount. Some J crew are not nearly as willing and even tried to tell me student discount no longer applies on Sale items (HUGE LIE, if any J crew personnel tries to tell you this it is FALSE). I came here a few days before Thanksgiving 2012, they had a great sale going on, I bought a top for $14.99. They also have so many cute items I wanted, a navy blazer and these black pencil skirts and cute patent pumps...But well, not buying them full price. Overall, this store is great. Great location, for being in an expensive district they still had amazing sales. Super organized, clean fitting rooms. Very courteous store clerks and A+ views for overlooking magnificent mile! read more

Went to try on wedding dresses. Overall very good experience at the store. I had to make an appointment which was easy. When you make your appointment they asked if there are any particular dresses I wanted to try on and asked for my size. It was really nice because when we arrived the dresses had already been pulled in my size (or close to as possible) and were ready to go. So there was no waiting for the sales person to get the dress. The bridal consultant was very helpful and helped me get into the dresses. I had my own separate fitting room for myself and my friends and family and it was roped off so it's not like you're trying on a wedding dress next to someone trying on jeans. That was really nice to have that privacy. I tried on a number of dresses and thought for sure I had found the One. There were only two left in that size in the country and the model was being discontiued. After we left we went to a few other bridal salons in the area just to be sure. None of them compared and I called up the Jcrew store to ask if it would be okay to come in quick (mind you this was about three hours after my original appointment) and try on the dress I liked to finalize my decision and buy it. I was surprised when I got a very rude response and a strict NO. And then told I have to make another appointment if I wanted to come back in. I explained that this was either going to make or break the deal but they were emphatic that I could not come back to try it on without an appointment. That was a huge turn off. I ordered the dress on the phone regardless and they waived the shipping which was great. They explained that if for any reason I wasn't happy with it I could return it. It ended up being the One in the end and worked out great. Still not pleased with the customer service. 5 stars for the dress. 2.5 for the customer service. read more

The only reason to go to this store as opposed to any other j.crew is if you want to buy the latest items (or more specifically the latest colors of the same items) first. Of course the clothes all come out months before you would actually wear them in Chicago, so why bother? That being said, if I am shopping on Michigan Ave at all, I usually stop here. read more

Ugh...I want to like you more I really do....maybe I am just shopping in the wrong place and everything is supposed to be a Mom fit. I am 22 with a great fashion sense and Jcrew has seriously vamped their entire line to try and detract from the image of "Mom gear" but it still fits like it! Their XS shirts are basically all boyfriend style, and I don't know if its that way because of this stupid trend right now with looking like a hoodlum or because its just always been made, bigger. I am not bashing Moms, really, I have a Mom, I love them, but I don't want to look like one yet. They do an awesome job of styling their mannequins to make you want to buy everything, literally, (who really goes out with 3 shirts on, a blazer, a skirt, belt, shoes, and 3 necklaces in one ensemble?) but when I get home it just does not fit. I do have to say though, their children's collection, which I have only seen at Oakbrook, is ADORABLE. The little sparkles, and doggy tees are the cutest. Expect to drop a bundle on these clothes that your kids fill fit in for one season but it may be very worth it too. LAST THING, a couple of the sales associates here are total scatterbrains....I hate being hounded by every person who works in the store asking if I need help. Ask me once. read more

Brides/Bridal Party/Interested Folk: This review is focusing on J.Crew's Bridal shop/collection at the Michigan Avenue store, so here it goes... First off, I am 99% sure I would not be able to have my wedding without J.Crew. What DID brides do before they started their bridal/bridesmaid collection? I don't think I want to know! Wedding Dresses: So, I came here for a morning appointment to try on wedding dresses. (Side note: they can make appointments before the store opens. If possible, come during this time. It is quiet, you don't feel self-conscious having people walk by looking at you in dresses, and you have the WHOLE store open for lil' ole YOU...how awesome is that!?!??!?) You can see their dresses online and this store had all the ones I wanted to try on, although I was informed beforehand that they sometimes don't carry every style in stock. Therefore, before you go, make sure to tell them what dresses you are interested in and they can *hopefully* get them for you prior to your appointment. Finally, and just as important (if not more), they allow returns on wedding dresses!!!!! No Joke! Actually, I found a dress I liked here, and went ahead and purchased it. I ended up finding a dress I LOVED elsewhere, so I was able to return the J.Crew wedding dress back to the store. Easy. Painless. Hassle-free. Amazing! Bridesmaid Dresses: I made a separate appointment here with two of my bridesmaids to try on dresses. Out of all the stores we went to, this was hands down the best place in terms of dress collections and styles. I am doing that somewhat trendy thing of allowing my bridesmaids to pick different style dresses all in the same fabric and color. J.Crew was one of the few places that we could easily do this. The girls felt they had plenty of great options and were all super happy with their dresses. YAY! Furthermore my third bridesmaid, who lives in Boston, could easily pick up her dress and try it on without having to come to Chicago or send her measurements to a bridal salon. On top of all this both wedding consultants I worked with were friendly, knowledgeable, and honest. They helped us understand the "J.Crew bridal process" so we knew exactly when to order dresses, what sizes would be best, and how to do things timely and efficiently so there were no unwanted surprises. The only "gripe" I have about this place is that during regular business hours there isn't a lot of good space for the bride and her party. We actually ended up using a section of the men's dressing room to try on the bridesmaid dresses, which, I am not going to lie, was slightly awkward. I think we might of overlapped slightly with another appointment (or the last appointment ran over), which is probably why this happened. I wouldn't, however, blame the consultants for this...they need to be given a proper space to work their magic yo! read more

I came in here last Sunday to take a peek, in person, at their bridesmaids dresses to see if they would be something I would want my bridesmaids to check out. I walked into the store and asked the closest sales person where the bridal section was. Her reply " You need an appointment." My response, "oh no, I just want to look at the bridesmaids dresses, not try anything on." Her reply "Yeah, you need an appointment for that." My reply " I cant just look at the dresses right over there?" Her reply "No." I said "OKKKK" and promptly walked out of the store. I will not even consider a single dress or most likely shop there again after that encounter. I found it very rude and frankly ridiculous that I couldn't even LOOK at a dress. No offense, but you're not some high end bridal store - you're J Crew. Even BHLDN who has much better inventory doesn't require an appointment like that. Stay away. read more

I love J. Crew, so it was an automatic 4 stars. This location has more in terms of sizes and colors than the North Avenue equivolent; it's just a bigger volume store because of the location. They get certain items that North Ave doesn't get. On the down side, you can't drive here unless you want to pay a ton to park on Michigan Avenue and the service isn't very attentive at all. Because of the volume they do, apparently they aren't required to be as friendly. Note to the Michigan Ave J. Crewers....you are not Abercrombie, try saying hello to your customers! read more

In my opinion, this establishment really did not push the boundaries beyond what is expected. The clothes and merchandise are overpriced, the service was slightly more disappointed, and we were very disappointed to hear about all of the new J Crew policies regarding college discounts and final sales. I only used to buy J Crew from time to time due to its generous and forgiving return policies, but now it looks like I will likely never return here again or any J Crew for that manner in the future. read more

Shop here regularly. Often, I get gifts from J Crew (at least twice per year) that I exchange for another item at J Crew. Most times, I end up buying more than I came for. Today, I brought back a shirt with the tags on that I wanted to exchange (not a refund). I didn't have a receipt. I've probably done this ten times over the years at this location. I'd hoped to buy two pairs of jeans. I brought the tagged shirt to the register, and a very rude cashier told me I was wrong, they definitely don't give gift cards or credit without a receipt. And I should ask the person whom gifted me the shirt for the receipt. Note to brand - don't tell customers they're wrong in a tone that infers I'm clueless. Especially to someone who has shopped at your location for so many years. Not only did I not buy the jeans, but zero chance I'll be back. Oh, and Nordstrom down the road happily accepted a tagged shirt back and took the cash for two pairs of jeans 20 minutes later. read more

I am sticking with the Oak Brook or the Lincoln Park store. This store is rather small compared to the other two locations I mentioned. I found the selection limited and they had little back-stock for their in-season items. It also took me being ignored by three sales associated and finally having to ask someone for help, to get some service. You would think when I am standing there looking like a little child who has lost their mother, that one of the six plus sales associates would get the hint. After requesting to have a size checked in back and waiting for a good 10 minutes, I said "Never mind" and decided I would just get it from the Lincoln Park store where the staff is friendly and where I know I will never be let down. read more

I am headed out on an international vacation in three days and decided to go last minute shopping (go figure). I found the perfect dress at the Michigan Ave store, alas it was a size too big and they did not have any other sizes. The very friendly sales associate, Tucker, called all of the Chicagoland stores, but could not find the dress in my size. As a last resort, she called the catalog and did a "will search" for the dress. Not only did J Crew find my dress, but they waived the overnight shipping, AND while I was in the fitting room they had marked the dress down by $60 so they also marked the "will find" dress down by $60 too. I went here for wedding dress shopping with no knowledge whatsoever of what to expect. It was so great! Lisa (the bridal consultant) was efficient, knowledgeable, friendly, and made me feel really comfortable. The dress selection isn't extensive, but it is high quality and reasonably priced. Most dresses are fairly simple, but work beautifully as blank canvases for fun accessories and can fit a multitude of wedding motifs. Major props to Lisa; I would recommend going to this location in a heartbeat. read more

J Crew bridal made it so easy and convenient to exchange bridal dresses and order a new one. I called and made an appointment to meet with a bridal consultant, giving them my sizes and the style of dresses the bride had picked out. When I arrived the consultant (Samantha I believe was her name) already had some different sizes of the dresses ready for me to try on. She did an assessment of the fit and gave me sound advice on how the dress should fit, and what to consider about J Crew sizes, styles, and length, and then immediately ordered me the dress I needed. The new dress came to my house in less than a week. My only complaint was that the store had limited samples of sizes and styles to try on, so I needed to make an educated guess about what was best from what the consultant shared and what I tried on. read more

I love j crew- I think the store has quality clothes and fun accessories. This being said, I was very disappointed with the bridal department. This is not a reflection on the dresses themselves, but the service of this particular store. After setting an appointment in advance, they had a system glitch and despite seeing our name in the system and a confirmation number that I had, they would not accommodate us to even look at the bridesmaid dresses. After expressing frustration, they did do our measurements, but they seem to be incorrect- I am disappointed that it wasn't a better experience as I like their bridesmaid dresses, but won't be ordering from them due to the lack of customer service we experienced. read more

I recently got my wedding dress through JCrew and just wanted to give them a big shout out at the Michigan Ave. store in Chicago. Awesome service and awesome dresses for my style. I had to special order the dress I got because they didn't have a sample of it in the store. They were right on with the sizing and even added a necklace when I tried on the dress. I ended up buying the necklace to go with it, because it just worked out. This whole experience has been easy and that's exactly what I wanted. Anyway, I'm SO excited about the dress and I highly recommend their gorgeous dresses to brides looking for an understated elegant style. Cheers! read more
