My friend and I had great service by Bacham (not sure of the spelling) and delicious $8 skillets. I had bacon and spinach with two scrambled eggs since runny is not my thing. The serving was generous. We were offered two types of hot sauce and ketsup. The biscuit was delicious! Buttery!!! The coffee needs improving. It's weak. I loved the carafe on the table and having a little pitcher of 1/2 and 1/2. The ambiance is a bit different with coral walls and art everywhere. The colors will jolt you awake. This was my first time at the J Christopher's in Athens, and I really enjoyed it. We got the chocolate pancakes and the sausage and egg dish. Both were great. Our server was exceedingly friendly and very quick, so big kudos to that as well. The reason I opted for four stars instead of five was because I thought the quality and originality of food was pretty average for the cost. J Christophers advertises themselves as your neighborhood run of the mill type of breakfast place, which they are. Their prices, however, are on par with a lot of Athens' fancier breakfast joints. Very spacious with plenty of tables and even a bar. A very warm welcome from our hostess. Easy to read menus. The whole menu is available from 7-2pm. I ordered the hot chocolate and it was too sweet for my taste but that's just me. Our order was taken in a timely manner and we were given great suggestions on what was good. For the area this is a great breakfast and lunch place. Although the corned beef hash tasted like it came from a can. The potatoes weren't anything to get excited about. The waffle was okay but also nothing really good. Cracker Barrel is better but if you just want something local this is a nice place with friendly customer service. read more

It's very interesting to read reviews of J Christopher's right after having just eaten there (less than an hour ago) and seeing my thoughts/feelings being very similar to nearly identical to other patrons. First, I was part of a party of 6. Our friend called ahead of time for a reservation and was told that tables would be ready by 11AM. At roughly 11:20AM, with our entire party sitting at the front of the restaurant waiting, our friend went to speak with the host. We were wondering why they couldn't put a couple of empty tables together that would allow us to sit, and were met with a blank stare. We never received any sort of update about our table until we finally asked them again when we saw a table free up. We waited roughly 35-40 minutes above the initial 30 we waited (starting at 10:30 when our friends entered called in the reservation). Ironically, I joked with my friend that 'this is all going into the Yelp review! Hopefully the food is good to balance it out!' knowing that I've balanced out long wait times for excellent food in the past. The food, in a word, was 'meh.' My partner and I got the pantry feast which came with the blueberry crunch cake, 2 eggs (we both ordered over medium), oven-roasted potatoes, and bacon. First, the blueberry crunch cake -- it was OK, but definitely wasn't what I imagined. It was essentially a pancake with 4 or 5 blueberries and a small bit of granola and a wad of butter. Nothing spectacular, but I did like the granola. The pancake itself was pretty good. My partner got a bunch more bacon than I did, but hers was cooked much longer than mine. The differing amounts of bacon was a bit confusing. Still, we swapped plates because I prefer my bacon a bit well done where she prefers hers less. The oven-roasted potatoes looked bland and boring, and though a tad bit crispy (some of them were), my partner and I doused them in hot sauce because they lacked any sort of flavor. The eggs were cooked fine. Generally, as mentioned in so many reviews, the food was lukewarm and tasted like it was sitting out a bit. The coffee was great and bottomless, and the service was decent. I also want to mention -- I'm not sure how I feel about this -- part of me was happy to see it, the other part a bit annoyed? There is no differentiating staff and patrons. Staff dressed very casually with no indication that they worked there, and I even joked that, in my hoodie and jeans, I could walk over to the station and start working, no one would bat an eye. We've moved here (in Five Points) last July, and have been looking for neighborhood eats. I don't think, by a long shot, that J Christopher is the best breakfast food in the area. Although there was nothing offensive about the food or service (other than the long wait without anyone on staff keeping us updated), for the price, I don't really think J Christopher is worth it. Not reviewing for the service (which was great, though busy. Our waitress was very apologetic for the wait and attentive when she could be). The food though, was a different story. We ordered the strawberry crepes and the pantry feast, the first of which came out TINY (literally smaller than the salt shaker in width and length) and barely had any strawberries at all, while the eggs that came with the feast were chewy and and the potato's were so bland we had to basically cover them in salt and pepper for them to even kind of be edible. The pancake (we swapped the regular for the cinnamon roll one) was also burnt. The only part that came out perfect was the bacon. I get that we came in on a Saturday at 11, which is notoriously a busy time, but J Christopher's has been here a long while, and should be able to make at least mid food during a rush by now. The waiter at the bar was extremely rude and after waiting for 15 minutes for someone to even acknowledge us the server was upset that she had to take us and even asked if we were sure that we wanted to sit there because she was apparently too busy for us. I wish I could give this ZERO stars. Our server Madison was one of the rudest servers I've ever encountered. She made us feel guilty for reminding her twice of things that we ordered that never were brought to us. We were overcharged for things that never even came out with our order. Our food was cold and raw. Two of the things we ordered didn't come out until we were already asking for the check - and they still came out ice cold in to-go boxes. I've been to J. Christopher's three times already and I'm a creature of habit, so I feel like I have a good idea of the quality of some of the menu items by now. I ordered one of the skillets with a sunny-side up egg as well as a mocha. The skillet was a bit on the oily side but it was still flavorful and they gave us a good amount of food for the price. The mocha, on the other hand, was not at all good. It was more milk than anything; there was barely any coffee in it and even though it looked like there was chocolate syrup in it, there was no discernable taste other than milk. For the price, you'd be better off grabbing a mocha (or any of their flavored coffee drinks for that matter) from a local coffee store or Starbucks. Aside from the food, the service was great! Unfortunately I was not allowed to dine inside the resturant because of my service dog in training. My dog was appropriately identified in his vest and was still told I wouldn't be allowed inside. Under Georgia service dog codes, service dogs in training are permitted to all the same rights as a fully trained service dogs. I have a friend who previously brought another service dog in training to dine here and was given no issues and were allowed to dine inside. I would highly suggest the employees here read up on the Georgia state laws regarding guide dogs and service animals to avoid a potential lawsuit in the future. read more

I'm really, really disappointed in the bathroom. When I got into the restroom I notice the toilet paper holder, trashcan, and paper towel dispenser were all broken. There was water everywhere and it had paper towels and toilet paper on the floor. Clean bathrooms are a must, not just because of covid but especially when you only have one restroom per gender. If you want a waffle be prepared to buy any other items a la carte because the waffle comes with absolutely no sides. No bacon. No eggs. Nothing. I don't understand why breakfast places do this because who is just eating one singular waffle for breakfast with no sides? I came here this morning with friends for brunch. It was around noon on a Sunday so the 45 minute wait was fine, but our server did not make the wait worth it. We had Will, and at first he was fine, very quick service. We got our food maybe 10-15 minutes after ordering which was great because we were starving, but when my friend said "Oh my gosh that was so fast!", Will said something along the lines of "yeah trying to get you out of here pretty soon". We had been seated for less time than we waited for that table, and that comment was not appropriate or necessary. The food was fine, I got the eggs benedict and the hollandaise had begun to separate when the food arrived. My friends got a burger that did not have the bacon that usually came on it, but after the server's earlier comment we didn't bother flagging him down. Had breakfast on Sunday and was so disappointed. Let's start with food which was barely warm, the bacon was so burned it was black. We pointed this out to the server and he brought more but it was also so crispy that it broke when it was picked up. English muffins were served dry with no butter on the table, potatoes didn't seem cooked but that could have been do to their temperature. The eggs Benedict was good but but barely warm. We were in town for Uga orientation with my daughter and wanted to try some of the local places. We were not overly impressed. We were seated quickly and order was promptly taken by a chipper female waitress. The prices were a little on the higher side for breakfast items but figured it was because of the location to the college. The food arrived quickly but was nothing spectacular. Not a lot of wow factor to the flavors. I ordered the skillet and it was a large portion but the potatoes had a burnt taste to them. The chipper waitress kept coming back and forth to the table grabbing our plates. Though she was trying to be helpful she was actually more on the annoying side. We kept having to tell her that we weren't finished with that plate yet. We felt like she was rushing us even though there were empty tables everywhere. Then when we were actually finished, we couldn't get her to bring us a to-go plate. We had to ask for that multiple times. I probably would never go back to this restaurant.
