If 8th and the Water Front continue to dedicate itself to revitalization I believe this place could survive long through another era of A homestead boom. I could kinda see Homestead creating its own SouthSide esque. I went with my parents and it took us a little while to agree that the building was actually Pido's. It is located off 8th Avenue in Homestead on a type of back road and nested among residential homes. It really doesn't stick out so keep your eyes open if you're going there for the first time. Small dining room with a little bar. But this place is cozy and familiar and right away you feel at home. The wait staff was so friendly and we enjoyed talking with our waiter throughout the evening. There is an appetizer of hot cashew nuts that is addictive and delicious. A great selection of pizzas to choose from and also some great fish sandwiches. I don't want to call Pido's a dive, but it has that feel, but with terrific food. I can't wait to go back!

Not everything was fantastic, but the overall quality of the food items we ordered was well beyond expectations. We ordered takeout, and our order was ready at the expected time. The only comment I'll make on online ordering is that the first available pick-up slot was about an hour after we placed our order. Plan accordingly. In terms of the food, we were generally impressed. The falafel plate was generally good, but not fantastic. The falafel was a little doughy and lacking in crunch or herb content. The pickled beets on the platter were a very nice addition. So a mixed bag. The mujaddara was excellent, with nicely caramelized onions. The musabaha was interesting and flavorful, but it didn't seem to survive the drive home particularly well. The fatoosh salad was good, with extremely crispy pita chips. That having been said, the lettuce was starting to wilt by the time it got home. Possibly unavoidable. The hummus was excellent, and the spinach and feta pie was fantastic. So generally good food, with a relatively small number of minor misses. Overall, this is a reasonable takeout operation. There were a handful of people enjoying the bar when we picked up our order, but I'm not sure I would opt for using the space as a drinking destination.

It's been a while that I've moved out of Pittsburgh; I've found other bars that I like, but nothing has quite replaced Gooski's in my heart. I make a point to pay my respects every time I return here. Hardly anything has changed on the interior in the last 30 years. And I hope it never does. It's dark, it's grimy, it's smoky, it's quintessentially Pittsburgh. Crowd has always been an effervescent mix of ages and walks of life. The beer selection is wide and affordable. And the food is just right for intoxicated palates.

The staff was cool, the drinks were exactly what you'd expect, and it's the kind of place that I'd spend way too much time in if I lived in Pittsburgh.
