I like it here- the place was nice and dirty and the music was loud. I can smoke and watch shit on the TV. Our bartender was this sexy little girl with great curls. I only visited the Rock Room one time-- in September of 2021. The atmosphere was nicely calm and welcoming. There were two acts there the night I visited. The first was an exciting band that was new to me. The second was one of two bands from my block--; who I finally got to see play in public, but still in my own neighborhood, which was the clincher for me--. The people are friendly enough, the food is good for the price, the place isn't too dirty (or if it was I didn't notice it), and your buddies can smoke all they want inside. Stopped in here today for a little "pre-lube on the cheap" before I meet up with my girl on the North Shore to enjoy the Gaelic Storm show at Stage AE. I agree with the rest of the reviews here. Inexpensive craft beers (I'm drinking a Southern Tier Live that only cost me $3.50), really cheap domestic beers, low-cost bar food, good daily specials and very, very, divey in only the best way. Its punkyness reminds me of a few of the bars I've visited in East Greenwich Village. This is a bar for all you bikers, rockers, ink junkies, piercing addicts and all of us that love them. Rock Room had an event last night. Looked like it was fun for all. I want all of the business in Polish Hill to do well, I keeps the neighborhood vibrant. If Rock Room could just please ask their patrons to not toss their PBR cans all over the neighborhood it would be much appreciated. Plenty of people leave their garbage cans on the side walk, plenty of opportunity to put the cans in there and not on the street or on people's steps. Continue success for the Rock Room. read more

Not sure why our beloved burger night order got skipped time and time again, and I definitely wasn't my best self after having to ask repeatedly what the issue was, but come on - if I order at 8 and don't get my food till 10:30 while our entire party -and people who weren't even at the bar when I ordered- are happily chowing down, there is a problem, one easily fixed. As a waitress for ~10 years, I certainly lost tickets, but I apologized and made things right instead of ignoring the customer. BTW - It's not anti-mainstream to look down on people who don't fit your aesthetic, it's just being a different kind of a$$hole. My old band used to play this place well before it was called the rock room. Can't remember for the life of me what it was called then... wait, The Warsaw! Thank you Drew Carrey... the new owner, actually a pretty cool dude, asked my band to play this place on the first night they reopened years back. Great dive bar. Peeps in it werent too bad truthfully. Nice folks. Liked it better than Gooskis. Never worked up the courage to have anything to eat here. Parking was a breeze here. Cheap, cheap drinks. Nice bartenders! My fondest memory of this place was when I was first trying to book a show here. It was a sunny summer Saturday afternoon, bright and shiny outside and I was finalizing the show details with the bartender when a middle aged woman in jorts (not a typo) and a bikini top walked in with an empty beer bottle in one hand and a muffler off of a car in the other. She put both on top the bar and said, "I'll take another one." To this day I wish I would've stuck around to see what the bartender pulled out from under the bar. Anyway, check it out. To be honest, I was very reluctant to try out this bar at first glance. It definitely caters to a more local leather jacket kind of crowd, and as a college student stopping in, I felt a bit out of place. It's dark, damp and smells like cigarettes. There are a few tables towards the back, but the majority of people hang around at the bar area. There's a slot machine, TV's, and a kitchen area. After I got past all that, the rest of the night was a good time with cheap food and drinks. The people there are friendly and the service was excellent. The music was a bit loud so expect to be shrieking by the end of the night. They have food specials daily after 8pm...and it's ridiculously cheap! Like "50cent-pizza-boats-and-15cent-pierogies" cheap. The food tastes good enough for that price. Drinks are really affordable too. If you go for the draft special and the food special, you could pretty much eat and drink yourself into oblivion for less than $10. Definitely recommend if you're an adventurous type. I really like the Rock Room. It can be sketchy at times, but I tend towards more sketchy folks, so now you know. There's actually a mezcla of people that go in here. Punk Rockers, Bikers, Hip Hop folks, local drinkers, local alcoholics, and lonely pick up artists. Cheap delicious beer, greasy fried bar food and pretty good bartending. This place is kinda like the bar in "Return of the Jedi" bar scene in that it's so diverse. Actually, rich people do not go here, so that's good cause they complain about everything. They have live music here at times, which is cool as a musician. The sound system is craptastic, but eh, some of us don't mind. It can get pretty loud in the anteroom that is detached, so if you don't wanna hear loud music, don't go here. Also, the bathroom, not so good. I'd rather there just be a hole dug into the ground to deal with that the grime that lurks in their bathroom. The door doesn't always shut either. And the toilet puller thingamajig is rigged up like something outta MacGuyver, so who knows if you can get it to flush. If I remember correctly, it has a little note on it that says "pull". Your wallet will thank you for drinking here, and they have specials. read more

Also known as the Penalty Box. Best place to go if you want to be full and hammered for approximately $10. It's more than a dive bar! Food and drink specials every night. My favorite specials are the hamburger, tacos at $0.25 a piece, and pirogues at 15 cents a piece. Aside from the food they have a variety of cheap and craft beer, well below even the Pittsburgh drink average. Bartenders are super nice and let you have the remote to the tv. I used to watch a lot of law and order SVU here. Every once in a while someone will be drunk and accidentally take your drink or offer you some coke.. Its good there are still places in pittsburgh where you can safely feel like a pile of human garbage without breaking the bank. I usually seek out places with super loud music so i don't have to hear myself think so this bar was a real treat for me. The only downside is people kept leaving the bathroom while i number 2'd even though i didnt lock the door. Will certainly come back in the future. That being said, this place is a very fun, CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP neighborhood bar for the right person. The beers are always cheap and then become ridiculously cheap during happy hour, 4-6pm. $1-2 beers cheap. My favorites are the different daily food specials from 8-10pm. 25 cent tacos, $2 burgers, 15 cent pierogies, 50 cent pizza boats...it doesn't get any better than this. Another perfect dive bar in Polish Hill. I would put their drink and food specials up against any other bar in Pittsburgh. This is the definition of a blue collar, slightly punky dive bar. The food is greasy, the people are grungy, and the beer is mostly the cheap stuff that you drink without complaint. And who can say no to a happy hour with a burger, fries, and a Yuengling for under 5 bucks?? That's right: no one. Front and back room that's dark, (really) smokey, and a stage in the back for live music (the scene is ok). DON'T go to burger night unless you are prepared to wait 2 hours to get a burger. Some friends and I went for Tuesday burger night, and 6 of us ordered the burgers. Four of us got our burgers, the other two waited OVER 2 hours for theirs. OK, so they were $3.50, but no one wants to wait that long for a burger. They're delicious, but it's up to you?? The cook told my sister the reason they took so long to make this order was "capitalism." There is no apparent management here, and the mentality is, if we don't like you here, then don't come. I guess they didn't like those friends? But honestly that's not how a business is supposed to operate. If I could give this establishment a zero star rating I would. However the staff is always cheerful and friendly (and the bartender I see most often is very experienced and fast), the drinks are well mixed, and the food specials are RIDICULOUSLY cheap.
