    Poorly cut, overpriced stairs
    Celina C.

Terrible, overpriced craftsmanship. Awful customer service. I ordered a 7' round hot tub from J&K in January 2023. Since the install site was on a hill, J&K offered to excavate and level the site and add a 7' diameter concrete pad. On January 23rd, Jason Wood and his crew over excavated the area, poured a concrete pad above ground (although this is not what I asked for) and charged me $4,750 for materials and labor. On March 27, I paid 65% deposit ($9367.15) for a 7' round tub with a propane/electric hybrid heater, a 7' hot tub lid, and added stairs ($700) and their medium drink shelf ($175). When I received the 1st invoice, Gail Frassenei let me know that installation was billed at $150/hour and estimated that it would cost me $600 - $750 for installation. On April 24th, Gail let me know that estimated delivery would be sometime in June. We hadn't moved into the property yet, so I wanted to make sure I could keep my schedule clear in order to drive an hour to the property to meet them for delivery and installation. I reached out again on June 3rd and asked for a delivery date. I also reached out to Jason Wood, who told me that all scheduling needs to go through Gail (basically telling me not to speak with him). The following week, Gail's daughter Gabriella returned my email saying that Gail is out of town. No further information. On June 16, I asked again for a delivery update and Gail told me delivery would be on July 11th. On July 7th, 10th and 13th, I emailed to confirm delivery date and finally received an email from Jason stating that "Gail no longer works for J&K Cedar Works and she hasn't for at least a month now" and "We are milling the wood for your tub. It is our goal to have it to you before the end of the month." I let Jason know that I wasn't happy with the customer service and lack of communication and wanted to cancel my order if the hot tub was not delivered by the end of July. At the end of the month, July 29th, I reached out again for a delivery update. No word. On August 5th my husband and I got married and left a couple of days later for our honeymoon in a location where we (intentionally) did not have cell service. As we were getting gas one day, I see a voice mail come through from Jason that he's 45 minutes away from my property. He delivered and installed the tub on August 9th without my knowledge or consent, didn't ask me about any hardware placement and just made the decision for me, and then proceeded to text me every day asking for final payment. When I let Jason know that I was on my honeymoon and I'd pay him back after I was able to view the installation quality, he proceeded to tell me that I needed to pay him by credit card immediately so he could pay for the wood he built the tub with. The invoice states that there's a 1.9% daily interest rate fee for unpaid final invoices; however, the tub installed without my knowledge, was not completely installed, and was delivered after the date that I said I would cancel. When I was finally able to view the installed tub, I was appalled by the work they did - the pipes were in crooked, the pvc pipes are also exposed to the snow which means they'll eventually freeze, the tub cover was not there, the hardware was installed in a location that I did not approve of, and the heater they installed was for natural gas and not the propane/hybrid heater stated on the invoice. Additionally, the drink rail and stairs are not cut in a clean circle. You would think that for a company that makes round hot tubs that their round accessories would actually be cut on a clean curve. As for the installation cost, what was originally quoted at $600 - $750 by Gail turned into $8000 for installation. I told Jason, I wouldn't pay that much more than the original quoted amount and he told me it didn't count because Gail isn't allowed to give estimates. Again, what is going on with the communication at this company? I also told him I wouldn't pay until the piping was fixed. At this point, Jason Wood began to threaten me over text and told me he was going to drive up to my home and follow me to the bank and that I "need to stop being difficult." The next day, a different Jason came to meet me to deliver the missing tub cover, and begged me to pay him the remaining 35% of the hot tub and promised he would return the following week to fix the poorly laid piping. That was August 22nd. I haven't heard from anyone at that company since then. Total cost: $20,036

It took them forever to finish the job (over 6months after initial install). After the job was done it was fine and worked for a few years. Now we are having issues with the hot tub touchpad and sauna (both not working) and Jason is not even replying back to me. Never again I will purchase something significant from a small business without proper service capability. Better to work with a larger company or even get a cheaper kit -- at least you won't feel dumb for spending so much money. Very frustrating.

The J&K team far exceeded my expectations. Took awhile, but this is a craft, not an assembly line. So, if not patient to receive a working piece of amazing ingenuity, move on the the inflatable pool! The install, way easy. The controls and follow up, top notch. Love having them in my yard. Lots of neighbors are asking. Here are some photos! About to build the decking surround. More photos then.

We did a lot of research before getting our tub and decided to go ahead and get a cedar hot tub from J&K. We could not be happier. There was little wait time and they drove our tub down from Oregon to Los Angeles and did the install the next day (in the rain, the one day that it rained in L.A.). The tub smells amazing, is high quality and when we had trouble figuring out the sanitizing system and a few other things that came up we were met with great communication + solutions that worked the first time. We are new hot tub owners and were pretty clueless. Gail assured us that they are "our hot tub people" and to not worry about asking all of my questions. They have been there to help whether it is in person, via email/text, phone call or FaceTime. I would highly recommend. Our family loves the tub and our backyard looks gorgeous. Thank you J & K! You have exceeded my expectations!

Jason installed a cedar tub for me last October and the quality of the tub is solid. Him and his crew are good craftsman and so far I am really happy with the work. He's running a family-run operation so you have to be patient especially with Covid making travel and getting into people's homes more difficult but all in all the final product is great. He's worked with me through delays and any issues we have had and worked to make things right and really seems to want to do a good job and represent his company well. I didn't have a ton of woodwork to do in addition to the tub itself but he had some interesting ideas I may pursue in the future. Overall I would recommend his cedar tubs especially if you want more customization as that seems to be something he is really flexible with.

Gave in a $5,000 deposit for a sauna, he never delivered. It's even over a year. He's blocked my number.

Employees gave me conflicting information and the one who worked at the Costco event seemed to not even care about what he was selling and did share much info. I ended up driving from Costco to the Emerald store to get better and more thorough information.

I will start out this review, stating that Scott is a nice guy. I am giving him two stars; one…read morebecause he is nice and the second because he seems knowledgeable. We had him come out for a diagnostic on September 15th, that ran us about $220. Scott charges by the hour and our diagnostic ran a little over an hour. He diagnosed the problem (leaky pipe) and told us that he would send a link for us to pay for the part. After some time of not hearing from him, we contacted him, he sent the link, and told us it would be 1-2 weeks for the part to come in. After a week or so, we called/messaged him to check on our part. It was a week of phone tag and waiting for a response. He told us that he had our part and gave us the "go ahead" to drain the tub. He then texted back a couple hours later, after we had drained our tub, stating that he thought that we were someone else and was still waiting on our part. He responded back October 8th stating he had the part and scheduled us for October 16. He cancelled last minute, stating he had another job that ran over and scheduled us again for November 6th. He showed up late, at dark, took time to set up lights (keep in mind that he charges by the hour) and removed foam from around the area he needed to work. After an 1 hour, he stated that he couldn't finish the job because he needed help to get to where he needed to be. He scheduled us again November 8th. He showed up again with help, after dark and told us he forgot the part and would have to reschedule with us on November 10th. He didn't show up on the 10th because he had another job that ran over. He then texted, stating that he wanted to "prioritize" us and give us our own day and time needed to finish repair, which he estimated would take two hours. He scheduled us for November 18th at 12pm. He showed up at 2:15pm with a new employee who refused to help him lift the tub, the whole reason he rescheduled with us. He forgot a part and left at 2:45pm but returned to finish the repair at 3:15pm. He spend maybe 30 minutes working on the tub, fired his employee on the spot because the guy stood there, refusing to work, left to take the guy home at 4pm and returned at 5:45pm. When he returned it was dark (repairs take longer in the dark) and he completed the repair at 7:45pm. The amount of time he collectively spent actually working on the tub was 3 hours and 30 minutes (11/6 for 1 hour and 11/18 for 2.5 hours). We know this because we have a camera pointing in the direction of the tub that time stamped when he came and went and we were home during both appointments. Before he left, we asked him how much time he would be billing us for. He stated, "I'm only going to charge you for three hours (this was including an hour from when he came out to remove foam), even though it was a lot longer because I know it's taken a while to complete the repair." Yes, his equipment was at my house for about 6 hours on the 18th but the actual time he worked on the tub was 3 hours and 30 minutes. It's not my responsibility to pay for errands to pick up forgotten parts or driving your ex employee home. He charged us for 3.5 hours of work, which we paid. There was no discount for inconvenience, which is fine but don't tell me one thing to just turn around and do something different. The tub was finally repaired after two months. We were instructed to wait 72 hours before filling the tub to allow for the silicone to dry. We got it filled and went to plug it in but the cord kept tripping. When we started this repair it was hot and sunny. After we were instructed to empty the tub, it sat empty and unplugged for about 6 weeks. The weather changed and it started to rain. We attempted to keep the cord end away from rain water but unfortunately moisture made it into the cord because we couldn't keep it plugged in, due to the tub being empty. We ended up having to replace the hot tub GFC cord. No, we did not hire Scott to do this. This repair shouldn't have taken two months to fix. He shouldn't have shown up after dark to attempt the repair on multiple occasions, which absolutely added more time. He should have prioritized us from the beginning. He fixed one problem, just to add a damaged cord that we had to then turn around and have repaired for an additional cost. Very frustrating. He is a very nice guy but not reliable. I would not recommend.

Shit sandwich... positive, negative, positive…read more Scott is a good man... Ernest and likable Some people don't know how to run a business... in this case you don't get price quotes before the work so the bill is huge before you realize what you are paying for... deadlines get missed... goofy mistake happen... then it's a weird reconciliation between what happened and if it was fair... and how much do you want to fight over a couple hundred bucks And I would use Scott again. Why? Because I think if I did a better job being clear about what I need from Scott... he is basically good at what he does... and there aren't a ton of options. Look... this guys got some bad reviews... I could have done that but in truth half of what didn't go well was me... so maybe some of those bad reviews aren't fair.
