One star is, is one too many. DISHONEST POOR COMMUNICATORS. My boyfriend took his diesel there. Told them he had replaced the fuel injectors within the past year, lift pump within the past two years and believes it's most likely the pressure pump but does not have the scanner required to do the other diagnostics that need to be done. My boyfriend called around after dropping his truck off around 9 am. I sat like a fly on the wall listening. My BF asked about his truck the person on the phone sounded annoyed when they told him "I'm with a customer can you hold?" He came back on the phone and proceeded to tell my BF that they aren't really sure what the problem is but they think possibly 3 of the injectors failed and would have to charge around ballpark of 400$ to take them all out to test them, but it could be the pressure pump they don't know for sure. Long story short he called up Jefferson State diesel (JSD) where he had purchased the injectors to begin with. The friendly staff member answered, "Good afternoon, (introduced himself) and asked how he could help. He referred to my BF formally calling him Mr (and used his last name)." He was so professional far stretch from J and H performance. He informed my BF his injectors were under warranty and would be glad to help. My BF then called back J and H performance and explain to him that he would go ahead and pick up his truck. He asked what the charge would be. J and H performance told my boyfriend that they worked on his truck for four hours total. There was no diagnosis which is the whole point of bringing it in. They told him what he already knew. Apparently on the receipt there was only a few items that show what they had done which was hook up some scanners and they told him they worked four hours on his truck and charged $375. NO WAY When my bf told him he was very unhappy with that price considering there was no diagnosis.. the guy told him, "well what do you want us to charge you?" Then proceeded to get rude and state, "just come get your truck and don't come back here." My BF told him "oh no I don't expect anything for free. I know you did some work, I'd like to pay you for but 375$ is ridiculous!" My BF paid the full bill needless to say he won't be returning and I would not recommend them, myself personally, to anybody just based on what I had witnessed with my own eyes and ears. I had problem starting my truck and took it to the shop that I go to in Los Angeles and was told it was ok. And this problem happened again during our trip to Redding. Luckily, I found this shop that specialized in Cummins engine. I waited 3 hours because. there was a long line of trucks ahead of me, Once it was my turn, it only took them an hour to fix it. I had a problem with my chevy 2500 fuel filter primer housing and J&h were able to have it ready the next afternoon. I picked it up and tested it which ran fine. A couple of days later it started running poorly like it was starving for fuel. They had me bring it in later that week and were able to identify the issue. A hose they had installed had pinched so they replaced with a heavier duty hose and has now run trouble free for 10 days. Thank you J&H 100% thumbs up read more

Leaving this review for my hubby! I have a 2005 Duramax that was having intermittent injector issues that I had been trying to fix for a few weeks. I live in the valley and was in Redding for work. I wasn't able to drive it home so I looked up some shops online and chose J&H based on reviews. I showed up and Joel immediately began helping me troubleshoot the issue. We were able to get it fixed enough for me to get back home for the weekend. Instead of telling me all of the things it could be and suggesting I spend the money to change a bunch of parts without knowing whether it would fix the issue, he helped pinpoint the problem first. Honest shops are hard to come by these days. Joel is a knowledgeable, honest dude and I would have no problem driving the 2 hours back to Redding the next time I need work done on my truck. Posting for my husband -My husband was in the middle of a four hour drive, pulling a trailer full of my valuables (we are in the middle of moving) when he had a fuel leak in his 2006 Dodge Ram diesel. He called around to see who might be able to get him back on the road that day (after all, we didn't want to leave an open trailer of stuff on the side of the road too long!). When he called J&H, they said they were pretty sure they knew what was wrong and that yes, they could help him get back on the road. The tow truck driver said he knew of at least three places closer that could look at the truck but my husband insisted on J&H. Thank goodness he did! They had ordered the part he needed, and got him back on the road in just a couple of hours. They let our dog in the ACed office, got her a bowl of water and just generally made this hiccup in his trip much more pleasant than it could have been. I have been doing business with J&H since they opened. They are the most knowledgeable diesel shop I have found. They have always been better than the "big internet" diesel shops for me. Even after moving out of the north state I have used them for technical advice or another opinion. I always feel bad calling them with questions but they have always taken the time to give me an honest answer and 90% of the time have been the answer to my problem. I have experienced some lack of customer service when going in but it because they are in such high demand for their expertise. read more

Great shop - great staff. We had to invest in pretty much a total rebuild of our '07 Ford 1-ton diesel a couple of years ago. We were quoted a price, and they stood by their estimate. We were offered a few sturdy upgrades along the way, which we approved, and the truck is just awesome now. We're getting all our work on this truck done here. It's not often that a mechanic shop affects your life, but our dream for retirement was to camp all over the west with our big heavy camper. We had our Ford Excursion towed here after the starter motor went out on it. While they did fix the issue with our vehicle in a timely manner, I am giving them three stars for their communication. We never heard from them unless we called them. We made it known to them that my husband was working out of town and I was stranded at home with three kids and needed to be in the loop with what was going on with my car so I could coordinate rides to school, piano lessons etc. I was very frustrated with the lack of communication and when we did talk with them it was difficult to get a straight answer. I understand that they won't know the exact issues right away, but at least call once you have figured it out and give a guesstimate on when I will be getting my car back and what it will cost instead of just calling me once you have finished everything leaving me scrambling to find a ride to transport myself and three kids to pick up the car before you closed. read more
