It's been awhile since we've been at J's. The white tablecloths are gone along with the croissants. They brought our salads and they were great. The entrees came about 5 minutes early and still in the middle of our salads. The person delivering the entrees placed our plates correctly with the meat closest to us. We had water and coffee but they have a great full bar. It was my birthday so I had the prime rib. It was near perfect. My wife's shrimp were a bit small for the price. The server offered us a dessert free for my birthday which we asked for it to go. When we got home the Carmel sauce was missing. For the most part the food a service were great. I see J's a step above Longhorn and they are more expensive. Their carrot cake and coffee are the best in town. They have changed the bread to a cheaper French bread. White tablecloths are gone. It is not near as impressive as I remember. For the money, I think my next birthday dinner will be at longhorn. For dessert I'll be back for coffee and carrot cake. read more

The server showed us prices of drinks, we ordered those drinks, when the bill came to drinks were five dollars more per drink then she quoted. The food was all great except my wife steak was over cooked but she was so hungry she did not bother to send it back. All in all we find this place to be very overrated. When confronted about the prices the manager came over and said that she showed us prices off of an old price list and the new prices were correct. I simply said well I should not pay more than the price that she quoted me. I also said I'd like to speak to a manager and she said "I am a manager" and then she walked away. Horrible. read more

We have been stopping there every year on way up from Nashville to the Ocoee for 4th of July. We have our dogs and have always enjoyed sitting out out on the patio before we make the last part of our trip. This year was a complete different experience. When I let the hostess know we had dogs and would like to sit outside, she said that would be fine. When my husband got to the patio with the dogs, our waiter was a total ass. The waiter gave my husband a lecture saying the dogs had better be well behaved. At that point, my husband was very upset at how the waiter spoke to him. We were then told that only services dogs were Allowed and that was policy of the new management. It is July 1, 2017, 1:00 in the afternoon and hot as hades. There was one couple on the patio that had no problem with the dogs. The rest was completely empty. Not only would they not let us have our dogs, but the level of rudeness was shocking. Fine, you don't want our dogs, but you don't have to be ass holes about it. BTW, our dogs are a golden retriever and a English Setter that are both in training to be comfort dogs. Thanks to Acropolis right next door. They welcomed us, our dogs and their patio is SO MUCH BETTER!! J Alexanders, we have been big fans until today. This is a go-to place for my fiancé and me. We love the dirty martini here (the hand stuffed blue cheese olives take it from great to excellent) and the wine selection is also wonderful. He also t'as goes for the prime rib and orzo while I switch it up on the food end. He's never been disappointed with his choice, while I've had a several items that were stellar and a couple that were a little less than expected. What else can I say except get the prime rib and a martini! Seriously, this place has the best prime rib I've had in Chattanooga. Very generous portion and perfectly cooked. Comes with a great horseradish sauce. Salads are a great start to the meal here, but save room for the prime rib and mashed potatoes because they are so worth it. A martini may sound intimidating, but they are superb. And here's a bonus: not only do they deliver you a chilled delicious drink, but you also get a small decanter served in a snifter full of icy soda water so you have a full refill sitting there staying cold for you when you're ready. It's like a two for one deal! And the service is always on point. Very pleasant, and they actually make well informed suggestions if you have any questions. We have never had a bad service experience here. You may need reservations because it can get busy, but it is worth it. So we went to J. Alexander's the other night. Food was good. I thoroughly enjoyed the Hawaiian ribeye steak as it was actually cooked to perfection and extremely well flavored. (Not too salty) The carrot cake was by far the best! But don't waste your time on the crab cakes. Mediocre and can do better at home. Service was by far the nicest and well trained. Good team work amongst the staff to help each other out. Just felt like many patrons thought this was Applebee's or Chili's or something. Guys with hats on at the table and coming in with shorts. Just really made the environment less than what the prices were intended to reflex. A classy place tainted by ignorance. Class up folks! If you read the menu it even asked you to remove hats. Terrible to-go service! We have eaten inside the Chattanooga location many times.. so when I order to-go I should expect nothing different... a favorite of ours is the Mr. Jacks crispy chicken tinder appetizer and when we order in house we get minimum 7/8 tinders and a very healthy portion of fries (definitely enough for 2 people to share while waiting for your entrée). But today 7/25/23 I order it online and when I go to pick up they handed me the to-go bag, I checked the food and they only gave me 4 tinders... this is a 16 dollar appetizer.. I asked the hostess if 4 tinders in this is the norm and she said YES!?... so kindly I explained my confusion of when we eat in the restaurant we normally get more and especially for the price I was expecting the same amount.. she went to the kitchen and came back to tell me they are making me extras... she brought me with a container with only 1 chicken tinder... I was so stunned by the bullshit stunt they just pulled on me I walked out... I am so disappointed in the "service" if you can even call it that.. I will not be a returning customer.. and I don't want see the lame ass generic comment from the "manager" on here either.. this restaurant and workers are complete SHIT.. and if aren't in their "normal" customer demographic (old, white, a regular, or look wealthy) you won't receive proper service.. y'all are lucky the old white rich people with no taste buds keep y'all in business.. read more

I started the meal with their deviled eggs and was surprised at the excellent taste and texture; always a challenge to make well in a restaurant. The hot carrot cake was moist and the perfect ending to the meal; larger enough for two. My friend and I decided to take a trip to Chattanooga to sight see and grub. We were recommended by a massage therapist to eat here. The service was excellent, the ambience was cool, and the food was not as good as I expected. I had the prime rib with Mac and cheese. Our waiter, Paul, added bacon to the mac and cheese and it made it 10x better. The prime rib was cooked to medium well, but it looked more rare.
