Went there today with some colleagues, or tried to go I should say. When we walked in no one greeted us, I walked up to the hostess and said hello there would be 7 of us. The lady, who I assume was the manger, said we can't seat you our big tables are already booked. I offered to have our group split up and she said she couldn't serve us. There were many seats open also the bar was open. Honestly it had nothing to do with them not having space or servers. Excellent service every time I visit this restaurant! I ordered the veggie burger without cheese and no mayo. It was soooo good! Definitely better than the usual impossible or beyond meat burgers served as an vegan/vegetarian option at other restaurants. Additionally the shoestrings fries are really good too! I literally ate everything on my plate lol. Members in my party got the caesar salad (they highly recommended it), spinach con queso dip, chicken platter, grilled salmon, and New York steak which they throughly enjoyed. My sister really like the macaroni and cheese. One thing I love about this restaurant is that the waiters are very personable, respectful, and consistently checking in to make sure that all patrons, specifically my party, were enjoying our meals and had everything we need it to enjoy our time at the restaurant. Is it possible to give no stars? I'm a regular customer but never again. The hostesses are always non welcoming here and act as if they are so busy when the restaurant is less than half full to be courteous or efficient. My meal started off with a flat Diet Coke and I returned it to the server Lauren and mentioned this seems to often be the problem here. No problem since I had a fresh one in the car and kindly asked for a glass of ice. I was told if I did that I would still be charged for the drink. I asked for the overpriced $3.00 flat soda to be taken off the check. She refused and I asked for the manager Timothy. He smugly told me I was not allowed to bring in my own soda as they could lose their liquor license. Really? There were two young girls at the bar who definitely did not look 21 and they never asked for ID! The portions here are large so I decided to share with my friend. At the end of the meal we were unpleasantly surprised with a $3 extra charge. I asked Lauren about this and she informed me it was a "sharing charge." Why weren't we informed of that at the time I asked Lauren and she said it was their policy. Really? A policy she made up on the spot? No where on the menu does it mention anything about a "sharing charge" and in fact, I've shared in the past without any incident. It appears that Timothy and she were in consultation about it and randomly determined they would add back the charge of the drink and it would go unnoticed. Maybe she felt if she added that it would cover the minimal tip she expected from me after both her and Timothy made up "policies" regarding bringing in my own drink to replace their uncarbonated one. Timothy came back to the table after speaking to a real manager who informed him that only he could make exceptions to the outside drink rule and one was "granted." I felt so privileged to be their customer. These are trying times to be in the restaurant business. Regardless, that is no reason to lie to a customer and be rude about it. Customers are simply an inconvenience to them. I left an appropriate tip in the form of my two cents by writing on the receipt that I was generously giving them a 2 cent tip to share , one penny for Lauren and one penny for Timothy. read more

Alexander's cause I would definitely frequent it. I recommend the calamari as an appetizer. Salads were nicely done. Tenders and fries were hot on arrival. The filet, ordered medium well, was more well than medium. Quite dried out. The baked potato had to be replaced as the first one wasn't hot. Was actually dark brown on the inside. The 3 stars could have been 5 if the steak had been better. I was hungry and irritable! A colleague suggested it for lunch and although I really wanted to go to Fogo de Chao, I succumbed to J.'s. Mistake. Mistake. Mistake. The only thing I remembered about this restaurant was that it was dark. And it's still dark. Dark and depressing. It's early summer and I felt like I was attending a funeral in the dead of winter. I was hoping to eat something fairly healthy, but none of the salads or lighter-looking entrees appealed to me. And I didn't want to do any workarounds or pick and choose from the menu to create a meal. Honestly, most of the menu wasn't something I wanted to eat. Wanting to keep my choice safe but definitely not healthy, I settled on their version of a steak frites. I was expecting a slim slice of flank steak but instead got a honking piece of meat. I cannot tell you what the cut was, maybe NY Strip? The meat was cooked perfectly medium but tasted like nothing, not a sprinkle of salt or pepper was added to this beef, and it was oh-so-bland. The staff was very accommodating, we had no reservations but they got us into a booth quicker than quoted so we didn't have to wait too long. Our server was extremely attentive, even during peak hours. Most importantly, the food was stellar! I ordered the cilantro shrimp and a Caesar salad and it was top tier! Upscale but kid friendly. The experience here was great! Our waiter was very attentive, kept up with everything. The food was delicious, I had the rattlesnake pasta. It was seasoned really well and the portion was just right. I surprisingly didn't have a cocktail here so I can't comment on the drinks here. However, for a first impression, I definitely will be back here. I would choose this location over the one in Norcross any day. ‍ just being honest --- Norcross isn't bad at all, just didn't have the same experience overall. I can't believe I've never been here. I've driven by multiple times but never checked it out. I finally went here for lunch with my friend yesterday and the food as well as service was perfect. I ordered the Thai Kai Salad without the peanuts tossed in. The portion was HUGE but the ratio of chicken to mixed greens was perfect. Best salad I've had in a while! We are big fans of the menu at J Alexander's and have been going and ordering to go for over 14 years. That all stopped on Sunday evening when we took our family to the restaurant for Father's Day dinner. While sitting in our booth, a large roach scurried along the back of our booth, I immediately went to the hostess stand and asked for the manager on duty right away. They proceeded to act very quick and bring the manager to me by the stand. I quickly told the manager what was going on in a quiet and polite manner so as to not disrupt anyone else in the restaurant. The roach is still running around the booths, when she turns the other direction and said, maam, I need you to give me a minute to put this down (she was holding a rag and spray bottle in one of her hands). I explained to her that time is of the essence as this thing is just going from booth to booth. She rudely snapped back and said, "you see, I already told you I need to go put these back where they go." I walk back to the area where our table is to help my family get all their belongings so we can leave and as I'm doing so the roach becomes noticed by a table 2 down from us and they all jump out of their seats. She then arrives and chases the roach. I am unsure if she got it. She then proceeds to come to our without washing her hands and tried to lecture me that "we don't have roaches". She proceeds to get frustrated and repeat that they didn't have roaches. While waiting for our check. I told her I had a photo of the roach and I don't believe the health department would agree with her that they didn't have a roach. She turned towards me angrily and yelled at me and my family of 5 to "JUST GET OUT". My husband explained he was still waiting for the check and she repeated that we should just get out of there now. Stuff happens and sometimes a bug gets inside, I get it. How the manager on duty handled the situation was beyond reason. read more

This J. Alexander's is located between Ashford Dunwoody and Meadow Lane in a huge parking lot to itself. It's neighbors include Fogo de Chao and Olive Garden, in addition to a Walmart nearby. What I love about J Alexanders restaurants is that all of the servers help each other out. They have a system when the hostess puts the notecard on the table that any server should immediately greet the table and take the drink order. Then, the notecard is taken away when the actual server takes the food order. My first impression here was not so great. Service is very professional and polite, but unfortunately, speed of service needs some work. We came for lunch on Saturday around 1 PM and there were maybe 3 other tables, but the servers just seemed to be standing around. It took a while for us to be greeted and for our orders for our entrees to be taken. We asked for the sourdough bread and it took a while. Everything just took too long, to the point that we were looking around for someone, anyone, to notice that we needed assistance. Food prices are pretty reasonable, especially considering the impressive portion sizes. We ordered 3 entrees for 4 people and we took plenty of food home with us. Taste is comparable to the other J Alexander's restaurants that I have been to. Atmosphere is quiet and casual with dim lighting. Overall, I would highly recommend this place for a date, business meal, or if you're treating yourself or someone. I would consider ordering out, but I probably wouldn't come here on the regular. read more

Weekday night meal with friends. Restaurant was not terribly crowded. Our server could have been a bit more attentive. She seemed distracted by other tables but she was really nice. I ended up having the Cajun salmon with orzo and wild rice with broccoli. The salmon was cooked perfectly. The rice was a cold dish.
