Steak and Chips

First...Ana (Server) was great! Food... 1. Sea bass was a little on the dry side. It came with couscous and corn as side dish. The corn was like a Mexican style dish. It did not pair well with the Sea bass! 2. Ribs- they were glazed with a sweet sauce. Very tender, but the sauce was too sweet. Sides: cold slaw and loaded back potato- not bad. 3. Steak and Chips- we asked for Med Well- it came to table Well. Steak Sauce(A1) had a very strong vinegar taste! 4. Chicken Finger Appetizer- no complaints 5. Shrimp Appetizer- no complaints We did not partake in any adult beverages because we had a long drive home.

Honestly, this is never a bad idea for lunch. We stop in here from time to time if we know we're going to Perimeter Mall, which is just across the street. We are always able to be seated immediately which is nice! Normally it's just me and hubby but we had the two tiny ones in tow this day. Their food came out fast and first (a plus!) and they ate it with no trouble. Having them there also means I spent an inordinate amount of time accompanying someone to the bathroom. Luckily the restroom was spacious and clean. Our food was good as usual. The biggest surprise for me was how tasty the cheesesteak was. Visually, it just looks okay (see pic for evidence) but it was flavorful and delicious!! The STAR of the meal isn't even pictured but it was the carrot cake, which was served warm. The cake was so good that my husband said whenever we're at the mall we should just go pick up some carrot cake from J. Alexander. He's not wrong. The cake was extremely moist, the icing was creamy, and it wasn't overly sweet. Hands down, it's the best carrot cake I've ever had. If you've read this far, you should order it!!

I have never been to J. Alexander's before but that place looks amazing inside. Fancy, yet casual. The host/servers were super nice and just real all in all. My mom and I were craving some steaks and thought this would be the best place for that. We ordered the Ribs and steak entrees both were really good.

I landed at J Alexander's on a day I designated for self-care! Yay for prioritizing ME time! I arrived at lunch with no reservation and was offered a table at the bar. The bartender was a little slammed with a weekday lunch crowd, so I prepared myself for a bit of a wait. Nope! Quite unexpectedly, the general manager, Reed, appeared from the kitchen and kindly stopped to take my drink order. I was so appreciative for the team effort! I decided to be good and bad, so I ordered a house salad with a side of French fries! I love J Alexander's fries (slender and crispy!) - they're some of the best around. The salad is good, too - look at all the veggies (and bacon) atop my greens (see pic!) The bar area is loud around lunchtime, but it was a non factor for me as I was simply enjoying some web surfing over my meal. This is a 5-star review because of the service. The bartender, Bry, was so friendly and attentive even though she was so busy. Again, Reed, the general manager, promptly kicked things off on a courteous note! Reservations are recommended! I was lucky to score a seat in the bar! This location is directly in front of the Wal-Mart off Ashford Dunwoody Rd. Ample parking available.

The food, service, ambience and value is outstanding. The picture of the Ahi salad speaks for itself. The dressing is yummy

A week ago today a friend and I had an early dinner here (I guess that's what it was). YELP, it exceeded my expectations! Like , exceeded. All I know is that it's been years since I've come to the J.Alexander chain and just didn't remember much about it. It was forgettable, obviously. My friend had come to this location a couple of times and spoke highly of her previous meal and experience. I trust this friend soooo instead of trying somewhere new(which I love to do) .... We came here. There's something about being hungry. You want to go somewhere solid. Somewhere tried & true. Ok! I immediately loved the atmosphere here. It's so relaxing. It was perfect for having adult conversations with my friend over a good cocktail and a good meal. I ordered an old fashioned to sip on. My friend had something yummy and sexy to drink. I forgot the name of her cocktail of choice. We both enjoyed our drinks. (See pics of my drink) We both ordered the chicken fingers entree. This was a lot of food!!! Coleslaw and fries as my side were perfect! This dish didn't miss. I know I know , it's chicken but very crispy outside and juicy , tender white meat inside. (See pics) I added a Caesar salad. It was outstanding! I didn't think I would eat all of it but I definitely put a dent in it! The tomatoes I requested to be added were a nice touch. Oh and the dressing seem homemade. Wonder salad !!! (See pics) The service we received was great! Our server was amazing!!! She took really care of us and wasn't overbearing or annoying at all. She was great!!! Fun personality- we tipped her nicely ( well deserved) !!!! Lastly - dessert! Warm carrot cake. Yes! It was rich but good. We only ate a few bites. Whew, that's about all I could handle. I recommend you try it for sure so don't skip dessert. It's their featured dessert. My friend swears her carrot cake is better....... I believe her! Lol This review is a little on the long side but I hope you get the point. This J. Alexander's experience was memorable. I will definitely be back to this location ... might be a new hideout for me! SHHHHHHH.......

Emerald coast shrimp plate
Doug L.

I don't normally give out fives but I had no choice. I could find not one thing on this plate that was less than a five Emerald Coast Shrimp Platter $29 The shrimp. Breaded and cooked perfectly. Best shrimp I've had in years. I love shrimp with cocktail sauce but the remoulade sauce was divine Cole slaw. I am a cs snob. Most of the time it's awful. This was perfect. Shredded perfectly and the sauce was perfect Fries. Thin and crispy. Perfect If you like shrimp you must go try it

The bartenders were just ok, not mean but not exactly the friendliest...just doing their job whenever they were present. Overall, not an amazing experience or anything, but it was pretty average.

I ordered chambord manhattan and it was decent. For my app I went with grilled Malaysian shrimp - this dish was delicious, the shrimp was plump and juicy. My main dish consisted of Lamb shank with mushroom risotto - excellent! Not overcooked for once! I love this dish when it's done right but most of the time they kill it by hours and hours of overcooking. Yes, it's very tender once it gets to you but it tastes like nothing, just mush.. Portico managed to make it perfect. Overall: sleek decor, good service, patio, full bar, self parking. Worth a try if in the area or staying at the hotel.

At first there was a mix up with who was serving us do we got explained the drink menu twice. After our appetizer, we waited about 30-40 minutes for the rest of our items which took longer than we thought. They did give us some house made popcorn to keep us busy. Jahjoy pork belly: Tasty & tendor. I loved the papaya salad which left a refreshing contrast. A bit too saucy for me. Flavors were strong. Squid ink bucatini: our favorite! Must get dish - bucatini is perfectly al dente & the spicy sauce was very flavorful. Jumbo shrimp was delicious, and the anchovy on top left a nice strong flavor. Red snapper: This has some Vietnamese influences with the sauce. It was a lighter dish which was just OK for me, I would have liked the fish to have a crispier skin. Not much flavor besides the sauce which is inspired by canh chua. Wagyu flank steak: cooked to perfection and flavored well, loved the celery puree which was much tastier than we expected celery to be. Dessert was mint chocolate cake which was very tasty. I wish the cake was softer and meltier in the center but it was still good. Malt gelato was delicious. Could def taste the mintiness. Creme pat along the edges was a nice add to the cake with cacao nibs and popcorn for a textural contrast. I enjoyed it!! Overall we had a great meal and could tell the ingredients were very fresh. The presentation for all the dishes was beautiful!! We can tell the chef puts care in his food :) Appreciated the personal touch - they gave a handwritten card to my husband for his birthday!

The sorry no customer service waiter stood on her phone talking to a friend loudly as we waited to order. Then finally comes to our table with the face of so what do you want. My wife and I explained that no we walked in well within the remaining minutes of lunch, and that there were a few lunch items only offered during lunchtime that we wanted to take advantage of. Remember, if she would've come to greet us right away instead of being on her phone there would not have been an issue. Plus there was literally no one seated outside except for us! No excuse for this type of service. Plus I'm shocked that management didn't accommodate a first timer to your establishment being it was the server's fault. Amazing how these kind of restaurants forget there are soooooo many great options in this city! No one is going to put up with this type of nonsense. Funny how they forget who's the paying customer, and get arrogant instead of being flexible within reason to a great customer experience. Wasn't asking for anything extra just to honor walking in during lunch time to order lunch! If that's too much to ask then hello and goodbye and that's why we got up and left!
