My husband and I grabbed The Codfather for a Friday lunch. My husband has eaten at Izzy's before, but it was my first experience, and I was pleasantly surprised. The battered fried cod was a little larger than the brioche bun and didn't have the fishy taste you might get from your mass-produced lower quality fish. There could've been a little more lettuce on my sandwich but it wasn't a deal breaker. The tangy tartar sauce, and pickles definitely boosted the flavor of the fish sandwich, although the cod on its own would be good eating. The potato pancake I had was about the size of the sandwich and was a tasty change from fries. I love potato pancakes, and Izzy's are really good in my opinion. A little greasy, but still something I'd prefer over fries. The restaurant at the Madisonville location has plenty of tables and chairs for dining in, but we took our orders to go. I don't come here often, mostly because (as I've mentioned in other reviews) it's not on my regular route. I adore their potato pancakes (included with most combo meals) and their pickles. I typically will get their reuben no thousand island sauce. On rare occasion, I will get their matzo ball soup. That's only available on Fridays. Got an Izzy Burger for take out. It was decent enough. Came with Grippo's BBQ chips... you choose a side. The service was fine. Pretty quick service. All burgers made to order so expect 8 to 10 minutes wait. Only issue is the price is a bit high in my opinion. There's better burgers out there for $15. read more

Had a very great dinner this Monday evening here! I haven't been to this location in awhile and will definitely be running. It was a very relaxing, cozy feeling walking in. We were immediately greeted by our wonderful server Eboni who stated we could choose our table. Haven't being here in years their menu has changed and everything sounded wonderful. My dad started with the beef soup which he finished with satisfaction. He said it was a very great combo of flavor and would be ordering it again. I got the sweet and sour cabbage soup- also highly recommend. I was a dark soup but the cabbage was cooked perfectly, only thing is it could have had more cabbage to broth ratio. Also maybe adding some onions or another veggie. He then ordered a roast beef sandwich with coleslaw on the side. You can get it cooked/grilled or regular. He got it cold and loved it. I went with a salad and a side of turkey. The salad was very fresh and crunchy- along with super fresh turkey. We shared a slice of carrot cake and cream cheese icing (maybe- I'm assuming). It was very good along with the oatmeal raisin cookie and chocolate chip cookie. Total came out to $58 which seemed like a good price for the amount of food we got. We also got a Rueben with a potato cake and beef soup to go. Eboni was so friendly, knowledgeable about the menu with amazing recommendations. I purchased lunch today at your drive through window on Redbank Rd. and the main thing I have to say is: "Fix your darn Drive through intercom!!". I couldn't hear your attendant at the other end when she repeated the order back. When I received my food I realized she didn't get my drink order. I had to look up what Goetta is. It originated in Cincinnati. From Wikipedia: "Goetta is a meat-and-grain sausage or mush of German inspiration that is popular in the greater Cincinnati area. It is primarily composed of ground meat (pork, or pork and beef), pin-head oats and spices.[1] It was originally a peasant dish, meant to stretch out servings of meat over several meals to conserve money." Deli sandwiches aren't something I ever associated with Cincinnati before I moved here, but Izzy's is an institution, I've learned. The downtown location has been around for over a century. This one is quite a bit newer, but its location is more convenient for me and DLW to have lunch on a weekend. The interior is generically attractive, spacious and clean. Seating for about 100 and table service was a bit unexpected, as I thought it would be a counter ordering kind of place. Corned beef and pastrami are the main attractions, although the menu is rather large and offers soup, salad and burgers as well. Most sandwiches come with a potato pancake, which I found was more like a big hash brown, fried rather than grilled, but nicely crisp and GBD. I usually judge a deli on the quality of their chicken salad, and I liked this one with curry spices and big chunks of chicken, and no grapes. The roll it came on was a bit too soft for this application though. Oh, and pickle slices are served as soon as you're seated. For $10 a head you really can't complain about the quality or quantity. Maybe a New Yorker would turn up his nose, but I would certainly put this in the revisit category. read more

Izzy's recently opened this location on Red Bank Road, in a newly bustling corridor convenient to Hyde Park, Oakley, Madisonville, Fairfax, and Mariemont, as well as points north. Having spent most of my lifetime down south, and somehow having failed to sample deli fare on visits to New York, I'm pretty clueless about the world of Jewish delicatessens. I suspect cognoscenti of such fare would find that Izzy's doesn't cut the mustard, but, in the Cinci market, Izzy's fills the niche nicely. The specialty sandwiches with corned beef and pastrami are a treat, although the reuben is oddly served with untoasted bread. Izzy's also offers a good soup and half-sandwich special: the beef barley soup is rich and hearty, and the matzoh ball soup served on Fridays is tasty. Pickles made in-house are served as a free side, and are good. The portions are generous, and food is a good bang for the buck. Service is about what you'd expect for this environment: pleasant enough, but not always fully attentive. Although this location is newly constructed, it somehow already has a bit of a lived-in, comfortable-diner feel to it. A positive addition to the East Side. EDIT: Can't believe I forgot to mention the oniony latkes or potato pancakes that accompany every sandwich order at Izzy's. Depending on your palette and appetite, these grease bombs, which are about as dense and heavy as a mini manhole cover, are either great or disgusting. I tend to go with the former. read more

Came here for lunch after a work meeting, and I was impressed! I got the goetta reuben, which was sooooo good! Basically their regular reuben with goetta inside! They are mainly known for the ruebens and potato pancakes. The potato pancakes are good, but not something I'd typically get or would order again, but you've gotta try them. Its like shredded potatoes mixed with some kind of batter and seasoning which is fried. One thing I really like are their pickles, which are the thick, homemade kind. They bring a bowl of them to the table when you order probably because they know you'll want to eat a lot of them! They even sell them by the jar at Kroger! This is a great place to come get a sandwich! But during lunch time they are pretty slow even when its not busy inside. Prep person didn't wear a mask. Went thru the drive thru this afternoon. I had to wait a bit at the window for my order after I paid. I had a straight shot view of the prep line.
