This is a small Mexican restaurant located near Bothell, off of Highway 9 and 180th St SE. I finally talked my family to go with me and try it out, and we are all glad we did. First, there is a comment on another review about the food not being tasty. I totally disagree. Let me walk you through our dinner experience! We arrived on a Friday evening, around 7:45. The restaurant was busy, but not packed, and we were led to a table in the back, after being greeted with a smile by a nice host. The restaurant isn't large. There are about 14 booths that seat 4 customers, as well as a small amount of tables, with larger ones for big parties in the back. After being seated and given menus, we were promptly served chips and salsa (and water). The chips were warm and the salsa was spicy! No bland salsa here, this had a little bite. (Not burning hot, but enough bite to notice.) The waitress soon came and took our drink orders. My wife and I love jalapeno margaritas, and we were pleased to see this drink on the menu. There are only a few places where we really enjoyed their version of this drink, and now we found another. The drink was sweet and spicy, and had small chunks of jalapeno pieces floating around. I was really enjoying washing down the spicy chips and salsa with this spicy drink. They also had Mac n Jack on tap, as well as a variety of Mexican beers. My wife and I ordered the carne asada, and it was prepared and delivered as ordered (medium) quickly. The steak was served with fried onions on top, which both my wife and I really enjoyed. At $15, it was a much better deal than a similar dish at The Outback. My son had a 2-item combination plate, with flautas and a mini burrito. Both plates were served with beans and rice, and the steak came with guacamole and corn or flour tortillas, everything served hot. My son had to wait a few minutes for his food to cool! We passed on the dessert, and took plenty of leftovers home. The drinks, food and service deserve 5 stars, but the atmosphere was your typical Mexican restaurant. Since there are no 4.5 star options, I am awarding 5 stars. read more

I have eaten here many times, but its going downhill. Last few times it has been much smaller portions. This last week, I ordered a Tostado salad, came out a tostado shell with lettuce piled high, maybe 5 beans and a couple of teaspoons of chicken and cheese. Small tiny tomatoes, about 2 tsp as well...that was my dinner??????????? And...no alcohol in margarita, I won't be going here anymore! read more

The salsa isn't as good as the salsa at the Lake Stevens location, but the staff is very nice! The burrito was just as good and so was the strawberry lemonade...my daughter did not like her taco though (she usually gets a burrito). read more

That's weird. My previous review has somehow disappeared. Anyway, I'll poster again. The wife and I went for a dinner date. We've been to two other Ixtapa's but this one just didn't seem to have the same taste. The service was excellent and the food was hot, but it just lacked taste. I think if they had spent a little more time cooking it as opposed to getting it out quick it would be better. If you find yourself on Hwy 9 in Clearview WA it will do. read more

I really liked this place the first time I tried it. I got some tostadas and they were pretty tasty. The second time I came back, I couldn't find the same tostatadas on the menu and what I ultimately ended up ordering was not great. It cost more than it should of and the quality just wasn't there. The flavors didn't pop and the portions weren't all that impressive. The service was fine but we won't be back. Inconsistency when you're spending your hard earned money for a good dinner experience is just not OK. read more

I thought I'd try the place, support the area. It's ok, but not the best. The food was actually really good, I'd give it a 4 star. The drinks were average, 3 star. The environment was much smaller than I'd expected, but comfortable. The staff were all friendly, and one guy in particular, who seemed like management, came out and talked with us briefly. Tasty food from a small, limited menu. Portion sizes were smaller than we were used to from other Mexican restaurants, but the food had good flavor. I had the taco salad with shredded chicken. It had a spoonful of guacamole and one slice of tomato on it. The shredded chicken was well-flavored and slightly moist which I liked. My meal definitely was not worth the $18 dollars it costed for a drink, three tacos, small amount of beans, and a small amount of rice. The servers were nice and friendly. However, being someone who eats a lot of Mexican food I have my standards. This place way below that. The beans tasted like nasty refried beans from a can with nothing done to them. No salt, no milk, nothing. The rice had way too much tomato base to it. Making it goopy and hard to eat because all you taste was tomato. The three tacos I got had over cooked and mostly fatty carnitas in it. My tacos were more onions then meat, so much more that I should have just said why even bother with what little meat they decide to put on. Might as well eat an onion only tacos. read more

If you are looking for a good margarita, this is the place for you! My wife and I order the scratch and skinny margaritas when we come here and they are both fantastic. They definitely don't skimp on the tequila, so maybe start with a small if you are a lightweight. The food is pretty good, but nothing too out of the ordinary for an authentic Mexican restaurant. With that considered, they still have a handful of options that satisfy a vegetarian. The staff has been very nice to us, and overall we enjoy coming here. The patio is pretty nice as well! It's good, not great. I came here right after they first opened in January and it was very plain. How do you make plain Mexican? Like no heat, no spice, no salt.... Like nothing. Anyway, gave it a second try today and it's better, about what you would expect from most places. The prices are good and the building is nicely remodeled. However, still think it's worth the drive into Bothell or Snohomish for better Mexican. read more

Was eagerly awaiting the opening of this place as the selection of restaurants in the area is nearly zero. they did a great job on the interior. However this is some of the worst Mexican food I have ever had the misfortune of consuming. Like really bad. Its really hard to f' up Mexican food but they pulled it off. On top of it, it was slow in coming too. took over a half an hour to get our food and there were only 3 or 4 other tables occupied. They need a new Chef and fast. read more

Had dinner tonight. Service was outstanding! I had enchiladas mole and my husband had seafood enchiladas and they both were very good. Then moved into the bar. It is small but fun, the lady bartenders are very pretty and know there way around making good drinks and were very welcoming and nice. Patrons were really friendly too. Owner walked around making sure everything was good. Nice young man with great attitude so his business should do well! Be sure and give them a try! Came craving a tamale and boyfriend was craving chrese enchiladas. They were out of tamales so I had to settle for the mini burito with rice and beans. Boyfriend was able to get his enchiladas. The salsa is mild, which is ok for me because I have a sensitive stomach.vjust enough spice to taste it, but doesn't burn my mouth. Chips are made fresh and nice and thin, chrispy, and warm. Rice was ok and tomatoey. But average. The beans are better than most for refried. They have a little bite to them so it's not like pureed beans that you drink like some places do. Boyfriend enjoyed the cheese enchiladas with the red sauce. And my chicken mini burito was very flavorful and moist chicken. Overall a good place for Americianized mexican. read more

Clearview Ixtapa has great food. Great prices. Great drinks. Louis and Anna provided great service and both fun and charming.

My husband and I were excited when this little Ixtapa opened up close to home, but when we tried it this weekend we had mixed feelings. First the good: service was excellent, clean nice place, and good salsa. The not so good: the chips seemed like the cheap cardboardy ones, not the light bubbly crispy ones. Husband ordered the enchiladas with crema sauce, and the crema had a spoiled milk flavor... bleh. Set it aside and didn't eat it. I had their street tacos which I thought also had a strange off-putting flavor. Almost like a sweet curry seasoning was used. Not the "normal" flavor was expecting for a street taco. I ate one of the three to give them a chance, but wound up just eating the beans and rice. House margaritas were weak and ultra sweet. Not sure if we will be back :( read more

The neighborhood Ixtapa for Clearview/Maltby is a little small and hard to access from northbound SR-9. However it is personal and has a great local feel. The service is warm and friendly and the portions are liberal and delicious. read more

Had dinner w friends last evening at Ixtapa Clearview. Incredibly excellent!!! Food was delicious and beyond any possible expectation. Luis and his staff were very welcoming and accommodating. We felt like they were old friends even though we had never been there before. This Mexican restaurant is one of our top three. Delicious. I will be honest and say that I've never had anything except for the Crema Chipotle Chicken... and I don't care. I'm sure there are many equally delicious entrees on the menu, but this one is so good that I crave it every time I see the menu. The sauce is rich and smoky and perfectly spicy with a generous amount of chicken and thinly sliced red bell pepper. The rice is on point and the refried beans are a cut above average. They are obviously made with lard.... it may be horrible for the heart, but it's delicious going down. I've had just about every Margarita on the menu and they've all been good. I like mine well blended and once in a while it's not blended enough, but they're never too strong or too weak. They also have fresh, warm, chips and homemade salsa, but the salsa is no big deal, I've definitely had better salsa. I'd recommend it as a good Mexican American restaurant, nice atmosphere, great wait staff and prompt service. Prices are also as expected. read more

Just not how I want to spend my money when eating out. I'll forever question the person who made this recommendation. I hope they do something about the way they cook... First of all, I have to say, all of our family members are extremely loyal customers of the Ixtapa Franchise and the families who run them...just not this one in Clearview. Though they kept up on waters, the rest of the service was barely acceptable and certainly nothing like the friendly and energetic service one knows and loves about the locations in Lake Stevens, Lynnwood, Stanwood, Snohomish, Monroe, Sultan, Duvall, Carnation, and Redmond. In fact, my wife and I wondered right away if the staff might all be depressed. The salsa was a disappointment as other people have indicated here. We ordered the Fajitas and found them to be very bland compared to all other Mexican restaurants. There was very little meat on the plate which didn't seem fair for $16.99. We were miss charged and then told it couldn't be fixed, possibly due to lack of training. We had to press for a cash refund on the difference. We understand automatically charging gratuity for large groups, but adding it to the bill for a small family of four like ours was totally inappropriate! This was the first time in eons I chose not to tip. We won't return to the Clearview branch, but we still love and recommend ALL the others. We think the staff in Clearview would do well to spend time training at any of these other branches. read more

We tried out the new Ixtapa in Clearview and was really disappointed. I ordered a chicken taco salad which should be a pretty normal staple for any Mexican restaurant and I couldn't even eat it. The chicken was so dry and flavor less and it had about three for little tiny flakes of cheese on it, one big tomato wedge. I actually could not eat the salad. They were busy and I didn't want to send it back so I didn't say anything but then heard a lady behind us complaining about how her food wasn't very good either. Then we got our check and a gentleman took our credit card. Our server then brought us another check and when we told her she had already done this once and someone took our card it then took them five minutes to find it.
