*Reported to the police* Creepy rapey bouncers, security made full body contact during pat down. Upon entering the premises I get my mask check and DL checked. A bouncer wants to do a pat down. I raise my arms and he *grabs my hips* while pulling me toward him. We're now making full body contact and I can feel his gross obese stomach and chest pressed against my back and rear end. I tell him "not cool man", he doesn't stop. I finally say "f*** this" and go to walk out as he pushes me and laughs. Keep an eye out for the security team, apparently they find mandhandling and borderline sexual assault funny. Had a blast at the Corazon De Mariachi Dinner Show this past Friday. Just to be candid, the dance floor is converted into a dining area using folding chairs with normal dining tables. The service was great with someone asking how we were all the time. The musical performance was 1 hour and Erick the lead singer was all over the restaurant singing to various customers, especially those who were celebrating birthdays and such. The food was delicious and most of you can check that I have reviewed hundreds of Mexican restaurants to know the difference between Gringo slop and decent dishes. After the show, which ended close to 9:30, Erick stopped at every table and chatted with people. It was a nice touch of personal service. We used a Groupon which cost $28 each and that covered the three course meal and the show. In addition, there were plenty of chips and salsa all during the event, At the end of the meal and performance, we were presented with a bill which accurately reflected the Tip and Tax that were in plain sight when purchasing the Groupon (9% sales tax and 18% gratuity are not included in the ticket price.) Apparently, from the childish reviews I read, some people don't take the time to read the conditions. Also, there were reviews that mentioned paper plates and plastic utensils. Neither of those comments are true. We had drinks that we got directly from the bar. Many tables around us were ordering dozens of Tequila shots from the bar along with after dinner drinks. Their bills would show the tax and gratuity on a huge bar tab, but most won't be sober enough to notice. We left around 10 pm when the "dance crowd" was just entering. All the bar and table service personnel were working hard and very courteous to us and others. I stayed and ordered a Michelada, Margarita, tequila shot, and the three potato taco plate. The drinks were okay and the food wasn't that good but I ate it because I was hungry. Terrible experience tonight at this place on 9/9/22 @11pm... tried getting in with my friend and he happened to mention that he was local and patronizes the business on a weekly basis. The doorman took offense to this statement and literally refused entry. I stepped in and tried to reason with him and he explained that the statement "I am local" was offensive to him and his partner and that he had the right to refuse service. I fully agreed with him on the part of the right to refuse entry and wanted to leave but my buddy wanted to check with the manager and explain the situation. We came on Saturday night to watch a Mariachi Band; Mariachi Los Toros, also know as dinner and show. Dinner package by Gold Star which included 3 course meal for $28; appetizer, meal and dessert. My appetizer was min taquitos, main course Fajitas (a little greasy) and dessert was Flan. Good selection on alcohol, we got pitchers of margaritas. The entertainment was fantastic! Definitely would come back and watch. Got more of a up close view. The atmosphere was nice, dark but not too dark. The service was really good. The young gentlemen was super attentive. Only bad thing are the folding chairs, but I read previous reviews and prepared myself. They do have tables with actually sturdy seats, you must request it but the view is a distance from where the Mariachi band plays. You have to pay for parking, and no valet parking. Parked next door which was pretty pricey to park across the street in front of the place and not the side for cheaper parking. read more

Came during one of their Mariachi shows on the weekend, after wanting to try this place out for a while. I've seen long lines at this place before and was always curious about the previous hype. Unfortunately was disappointed overall after coming. The inside looks like a bar/cantina with a stage for their different shows that play here. We got a set menu option, which I felt was mediocre especially for the price. We got their "Botanas de la Casa" assortment appetizer which had chips and salsa. For our entrees we got the Pasta with chicken/shrimp and the Stuffed Salmon-- both were just average. The desserts were both average as well- the Kahlua Flan and Bread Pudding. I suppose part of the review should include the entertainment, which I thought was quite good. However, given the quality of food, I would have almost preferred BYOS (bring your own snacks) to watch the show, instead of eating here again. read more

Stopped by with my friends for happy hour during old pas happy hour week! Right before we came, I saw on Yelp all the low reviews and was scared to come, but it ended up being okay! We pretty much just ordered food, and the food was just okay. The tacos were pretty good, but everything else was just average or unimpressive. However, when we were finishing up, they started salsa dancing classes in the back! We ended up joining some, and it turned out to be pretty fun! :) However, keep in mind that the classes are separate from the restaurant, so you have to pay $10 per person unless your food order covers it. read more

The presentation was great. Chicken Piccata was good, needed a bit of lemon juice on it. For me it was a bit salty. The tomato soup was good,. We also ordered pizza. They need to really work on the sauce. The sauce had a sweet taste. While sitting, we saw a few dishes go by and they all looked good. The chef is talented, but he needs a refreshing course on pizza. Came here last night for dinner and the mariachi show. Our server was super sweet and accommodating, our margaritas and other drinks were super tasty, and the mariachi band was very talented! Our food was pretty decent too - chips, salsa and guac were really good and the rest of our dishes were just okay. Down sides were the fact that all the tables and chairs are foldable....I get from a practicality stand point that this makes a lot of sense, but the chairs weren't super sturdy or comfortable for a meal and a show. Also, as soon as the band is finished (which is after only like an hour or so) you have to move out of the way so they can convert the whole space into a club. Once the dancing began, it was SOOOO unbelievably hot in there. We wanted to stay and dance but just got too uncomfortable. All in all, decent for drinks and chips. read more

It has been brought to their attention by several people that they do business with Mariachi Quinto Sol / EVREN/ EVREN_Music managed by Roberto "Beto" who seems to regularly take deposits and provide contracts only to take your money and then subcontract another Mariachi at his discretion. Roberto thinks it's perfectly okay to send to another Mariachi to your event without contacting the paying customer. Ixtapa Pasadena ignored the message and blocked contact. If your going to Ixtapa for their mariachi show in hopes of previewing a group to hire , please do your research on who they are promoting before you decide to hire a group so your event is not ruined. read more

Walked in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and the place was absolutely empty. Needless to say the street was busy other restaurants were pretty packed. My dining partner and I decided to stay anyway; attributing to the fact that the restaurant was at the end of the block, away from the chaos of Oldtown. Our waitress was super sweet and handed us the happy hour menu, even though it was not happy hour. We decided on blue moons, guacamole with chips, casa chicken quesadilla, chicken empanadas, potato balls, calamari, nachos (sub chorizo with chicken-$2 extra) and sweet potato fries (to share). The food was super greasy, pretty bland, and was probably frozen and thawed. The deliverance of the food was also unacceptable; the waiter (who was not the girl who took the order) was holding the plates incorrectly and had fingers touching the plates where the food was sitting. After sending some plates back and having the items remade (or so we thought), we began tasting. None of the dishes were tasty, and the only item I found tolerable was the sweet potato fries. Absolutely won't be back, which is a shame because the restaurant is beautiful and has so much potential. 2 stars for the super sweet waitress and the ambience. read more

Absolutely THE WORST Mexican food I've EVER HAD!!! They draw you in with a mariachi band that has a Caucasian guy doing the "mariachi grito" in order to distract you from the overly priced, dreadfully underseasoned, sadly overcooked, severely understaffed, overwhelmingly heartbreaking, idiotic concept of a restaurant. When my date and I got there Saturday night, there were some open seats throughout the restaurant but wanted to seat us in a corner with no view hidden out of sight which was the beginning of the irritation. When I asked to sit at another open booth, they hesitantly agreed but first stated that we had an hour before it would be used only for bottle service. Ceviche- Laughably priced at $14 for a measly cup of dreadful fish ceviche with LESS than a handful of unseasoned chips. This lackluster excuse for ceviche barely had any flavor. No salt; barely any lemon/lime juice; no spice; and sweet peppers?!?! Pollo en Mole- What can I say, but again, it all went horribly wrong. First, the rice was overcooked, and sad to say that the beans were the "best" tasting item from the whole plate. The mole itself was severely underseasoned, felt as if the spices were raw and not toasted, bland with no remote signs of heat, and was sadly still missing something. For a packed house, they only had TWO waitresses that I saw and part of the time they were conversing with other staff instead of helping customers out. We saw her 3 times: when we ordered; right when we got our food but before we tried it; and when we paid 30 minutes after walking in to get the hell out of there ASAP! If there's one thing people know about me, it's that I like to sit and enjoy my meal with the company I'm with and FINISH what I order. So for me to not even eat HALF ofthe tiny bowl, nor my date her meal should REALLY say something about the depressing gruel that they "serve" here. SADLY, this place feels as if the food here is made for 4th or 5th generation "Chicano/as" that have lost touch with their roots and don't know the difference between authentic Mexican cuisine/grandma's food, and the white-washed slop that they serve here. Put it this way, TACO BELL has more authentic and better tasting food than this disgrace of an establishment. I've come here often and the music & drinks are always really good. Which is the main reason I always come back! However, last night I got a table, which I was excited about because the prices was reasonable. Once we got our bottle and our mixers, our waitress told me that she would come check on us in alittle to make sure we didn't need anything else. She NEVER came back. No one did. We wanted a pitcher of water and we went down to the front desk to ask for our waitress and she was standing there and told us she would send someone up. NO ONE came! So we waiting another 20 min and I went to the bar and asked for water and the bartender upstairs said "I don't service you, you have to ask your waitress" and I told him that we told her and she never brought anything and he just shrugged his shoulders. And so we went back down to the front desk and asked again for a pitcher of water and finally 30 min after asking a second time they bring a pitcher of water. At that point we were already finished with the bottle & ready to just leave. I was so fed up because just a simple thing couldn't be done. I understand it was St Patrick's day and it was very packed, however there were only four groups that got bottle service. I definitely won't come back to buy a table again. read more

This place is WHACK. We traveled here in a limo from Los Angeles to celebrate my friends birthday. She had been coordinating with the "promoter" for awhile, and had set up a table and bottle service, and asked all the appropriate questions...what time do we have to be there by, will one bottle cover all 17 of us, etc. He said he had the hook up and that there would be no problems. We get there, and they don't let us in because we missed the 10:30pm cut off guest list, and they said that table service covered 6 people and everyone else would have to pay. LAME. We've partied all over LA and Hollywood and never had this sort of problem. It's only Pasadena for crying out loud. Since I can't Yelp the promoter, and I associate him with this place, it gets the bad review. Plus, the door guys were major d-bags. They said the place was at capacity, but we watched 20+ people come out while we were in line. This place gets a major FAIL, however I did like the place we ended up at down the street, Villa Sorriso. Go there instead. read more

So I've been here twice now, and despite the three star review there is something about ix tapa that makes me want to go again. It's an interesting place, and they have killer happy hour specials that last basically all evening. The servers and bartenders are all awesome, really attentive and in a good mood like they enjoyed being there. It's the food itself and the drinks that were just...really sub par. I'll start with the drinks, since I've been to their happy hour. They have some decent beers but I went for the margarita...it was horrible. Jose Cuervo and Walmart off brand mixer would have tasted better than whatever it is they serve. Nasty. For $1.99 though I guess that's to be expected...but still. The food wasn't bad in a sense that it was prepared wrong, it was just badly in need of seasoning. The sweet potato fries didn't taste like they had any salt at all. All in all everything was not horrible, but not great either. I do like electronic music and I see some other reviewers complaining about it being played - I'd be stoked to find a good electro spot in LA. I find it very annoying when businesses advertise incorrect information on their websites/social media. In this day and age of technology, people research things ahead of time... at least I do. And updating your menu on your website should be a priority. They have had PLENTY of time to update the prices on their website... My first visit was in April 2015, then again in May, and my last time a few days ago. Their website says happy hour prices on margaritas are $5 glass / $23 pitcher... however on their menus in person, it says $7 glass / $26 pitcher. I can't comment for sure on the hours of happy hour times though... website says 4-7 daily, but the hostess didn't seem to know when we asked. Me and 1 friend shared a pitcher... we both barely drink, so we're lightweights and didn't feel like there was any alcohol in the margaritas at all. Eh, not impressed. I've been here on weekend nights when it's a trashy club. There is almost always a long line (I'm lucky that my friends are pretty.... it's really the only reason I hang out with them, because they're drunks), and we almost always stay for about 20 minutes..... until there is a near-fight in the bathroom, or too many creepers, or it's just too crowded to move. But hey, what do we go to clubs for? I'm not slamming it for any of that. I came here on a Sunday evening with a friend... we just wanted a margarita. It was some kind of DJ competition, but the bouncer talked us into staying anyway. Since no one was serving our table, we waited at the bar for a good 15 minutes before being noticed (Pasadena parking meters aren't cheap, so in this case, time really is money, guys). The bartender would shoot us glances as he served others, but no acknowledgement or "I'll be right with you" in any way. We finally asked for margaritas. "What kind?" he said." "What kind do you have?" "I don't know," he said, as he was turning his back to us to walk away. We finally ordered a strawberry and a mango, because we figured all cantinas had those. They tasted like someone had poured one of those pre-mixed pouches of alcohol into a glass.... The kind you get from the grocery store and are supposed to freeze and pour..... but they never really freeze and they never have much alcohol. They tasted like fake sugar and not at ALL like tequila. My friend didn't even finish hers, and she is a huge fan of anything alcoholic. We just wanted to get out of there. This place kinda sucks. Chicken mole was crap. It was hard and tasted like cardboard. The sauce was some kinda watery "spice" rice, which wasn't very tasty, and the beans were kinda cold and rubbery. The carnitas was alright, and salad was mediocre as well. Good service though - they are really friendly so I feel bad leaving a 2 star review. But I won't be back unless I hear their food gets better. It turns into a lounge/club at night so people probably come here more for that vs the food! read more
