The wrapper is perfectly cooked, thin, and the dumplings themselves are a good size! Perfectly soupy and juicy. They are also priced really well! PORK FRIED RICE 9/10: Really good fried rice! It had a bit of pork, some carrot pieces, and has the slightest hint of sweetness that rounds the dish. Nay ho ma, Ixlb Dim Sum Eats!!!! Where have I been??? I know you've been on Sunset, I've even passed you several times. Each time I think back to my days in HK and Kowloon and think, they can't really be as good as I remember, right?!? OOOOOOHHHHHHH.....MAN! I don't think I can remember the last time I was THIS wrong. Except for that time I bought an eraser - but I digress.... After a disappointing taste of lackluster sesame balls in OC, I HAD to find some true-to-form(pun intended) golf ball sized, stuffed with red bean paste yumminess - STAT. But did I want to venture to SGV? NO! I just KNEW there had to be a closer option. On the way to a friend's house today, I remembered the cute little bao, smiling at me as I drove through Hollywood. Go. Get. That. BAO!!!! I got that bao AND my fave treat, the sesame balls! SO GOOD!!! I can't wait to go back and try more and I may even invite some Yelp friends along for the experience. I walk in and clock the large center table filled with a family I'll venture to guess is visiting from somewhere currently experiencing much colder weather than our March 1 sunshine high of 84. I make my way to the touch screen and start my order before finding a corner seat looking out at Sunset Blvd. It's not long before my name is called and a friendly lady with smiling eyes, masked face, gloved hands and wearing an apron sets my goodies down at my spot. I am immediately surprised and pleased with how everything looks and smells. Certainly cleaner and even more enticing than the "Fragrant Harbor" of the South China Sea. My first round (yes, I said FIRST - don't judge) consisted of Chicken Siu Mai-4pc, Har Gow(shrimp)-4pc, Sticky Rice Ball-3pc and, of course, Sesame Balls-3pc. All of these had this solo diner doing a seated happy dance and smiling at anyone who dared to glance in whilst passing by outside. HEAVEN! The full flavor of each delicacy was better than I remember. While I thoroughly enjoyed each and every "little heart", I was so very happy to see that Ixlb Dim Sum uses chunks of real shrimp in the Har Gow. Recently, I've noticed a switch at other places to shrimp paste. They might fill the rice wrapper, but when you break it open, it's paste. At Ixlb, the quality was obvious. And that was true for each dish. While I'm basking in the glow that is this culinary delight, I notice a lady and gentleman walking around the tables, greeting customers, exchanging pleasantries and making sure everything stays clean and inviting. Ah! The heart of the business! Lovely people! Before I almost forget about continuing to my friend's house, I grabbed TWO MORE orders. The beautiful, graceful lady I assume to be one of the owners I saw earlier, hands me one bag, then I point to the other. She does a double take and realizes, indeed, they are both mine. This makes her smile even brighter. I rub my belly and proclaim proudly, 'HO HO SIC!' In cantonese this means 'the most delicious to eat' and I mean it. Her eyes go big with surprise and we both laugh and she nods, knowingly. I am definitely NOT the first to tell her this and I won't be the last. For my friend, I brought the signature Xiao Long Bao-5pc, Edamame, Baked Char Siu Bao-3pc, Chicken Siu Mai(again), Har Gow(again) and Baked Egg Custard Tarts-3pc. Then, I hid some goodies for me "for later": Sesame Balls(yes, I KNOOOOW, I have a problem!) and Vegetarian Garlic Noodles - YUM!!! When I got to her house and opened everything up she asked, 'Who's going to eat all this?!' 'Oh saaa-weetie! No need to worry about a thing and there's MORE where this came from!' Ok! After years of procrastination and because of the horrible parking situation I'm finally in! My tastebuds have been longing to taste the reason why LA Eater has this place on the hit list if you're in Hollywood. So onward, I ordered the Xiao Long Bao which was a five piece juicy as Fug ground pork dumplings with cabbage and ginger. Next up was the Har Gow shrimp dumplings that was also fire. So far so good. I also got their Pork & Shrimp Siu Mai along with some Sesame Balls. Ok now I'm a believer but then again I was a believer when I walked on in and smelled the goodness. We circled the area a bit to look for parking and almost gave up when we realized there was plenty of metered parking across the street at a cost of $1 an hour. We were greeted when we walked in and decided to order off the pads available along the wall. There is now seating available inside. So we decided to eat in. We tried the Shrimp and Pork Siu Mai, Shrimp Dumplings, BBQ Pork Buns, Shrimp Won Tons with Chili, Xiao Long Bao, Pinapple Custard Bao, Pickled Cucumbers, and Custard Tarts. Overall, it was good. But, not as delicious as the last time we ate there. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. I would skip the Shrimp Dumplings. Some of the shrimp had a strange texture. Also, the texture of the skin on the Xiao Long Bao were too thick. Great customer service and the desserts and Shrimp Wonton with chili are worth ordering. read more

Pineapple buns are among my favorites to get at Chinese bakeries, so I was so excited to wander into this local cafe. Their bread ranged from a number of different buns and pastries. Ordering is quick and easy with a kiosk and then you just wait for your order. There are some seats to eat indoors as well. The buns were huge and had lots of custard filling inside. The crust was a little bit dry but it might have also been because I ate it a day later. If you're more into tarts, the egg tarts were super moist and the crust had the perfect slightly flaky texture. I would love to come back to try their other dishes. The place was packed and after ordering at the counter, we got the last open seats. It's such a busy spot on a busy Sunset Blvd corner. The prices and quality at Ixlb are just great! It was $6.39 for 4 Chicken Siu Mai packed with sweet corner and ginger. I was so in love with these and they surprisingly filled me up! Pretty much my perfect quick dinner. I also tried one of my friend's classic Cha Siu Bao. It was filled with tons of chopped BBQ honey roast pork inside of the softest bao. It was perfect, serving up three for $6.25. They are more take out centered & counter service, but if that's what keeps the cost so low, I'm down. A million bonus points because as quick and casual as this place may seem, we saw the cutest Grandma who seemed to be running the show. I'm down with it. They have a second location in Westwood. As I said previously, the prices are higher that Chinatown, but if you don't feel like going to Chinatown, this is a good spot to go to. The service was really quick once I placed my order. I love the reusable containers that they come in. Not much ambiance, but the place looked clean. Not too many places to sit if you want to stay and eat it there. Parking can be challenging in this neck of the woods. Thank goodness they have a small parking lot in the back. I recently relocated close by and decided to finally stop by and get some takeout brunch for myself. Now parking can be a challenge in the area and I decided to park awkwardly (illegal?) to pick up briskly. Point is my pick up was so fast no one would have time to give me a ticket. Now onto the food. The taste of the dim sum here is nostalgic, brings back childhood memories of the earlier dim sum restaurants and bakeries that first opened in Southern California. I wouldn't say they have the latest and greatest dim sum style that can be found in other restaurants, but it is still very delicious. I ordered a few items -- Har gow, sticky rice balls, French cha siu Bao, pineapple bolo custard Bao, and egg tart. So you can see I mostly have baked items, which I found that I had too much. For the price of the bao's and the size, you're really getting your bang for your buck. At other dim sum restaurants, you're guaranteed a fraction of the size found here. These are ginormous bao's and I suggest treading lightly in this territory. Har gow here is decent and fulfilled my dim sum craving. The sticky rice balls were one item I felt was very unique here. I've never had sticky rice balls wrapped up this way and it really wasn't what I was expecting. Still quite enjoyable nonetheless. Bottomline, I felt the nostalgia and I was getting a real bang for my buck. If you plan on dining here, the interior boasts a pleasantly modern and cozy setting. read more

A typical fast casual concept. This is a place you order on the screens and it's ready in a few minutes. A chain restaurant feel to it, but there's only a few locations around the city. It's for sure not authentic Asian, but it's not that bad to be honest. The menu is kind of limited in choices, which helps limit the waiting. Ordering is done all by the customer. You choose the items by using the screens, and then you pay for it there. It's about $5 for the dim sum. The Vegetable Dim Sum is the choice for vegetarians. Basic looking. These are a pretty good size and filled though. Gets better with the chili oil, good stuff to dip into. The rest of the menu has things like chicken and others. For a fast food type of place it's not bad. It's actually pretty good in terms of flavor and price. There's a limited menu but there's some things for vegans and vegetarians. read more

Would like to buy a gallon if I could. It's the right amount of heat, clean aroma. No chili flakes which is kind of sad. Everything is good here. Shumai are humongous, shrimp pearl is coated in sweet rice. I guess their stir fried noodles can be a bit oily but it's pretty good! Eating it there when it's freshly off the steamers is amazing. I got the pork xiao long bao which was good, you have to add the chili crisp oil into the soy vinegar sauce they give you. I also got the chicken siu mai which was huge, juicy and delicious! I definitely ordered too much food here but it was a combination of seeing ixlb around for so long but never stopping in and being really, really hungry. Of course, I was going to get the Xiao long bao but I saw that had har gow so I got that and got the siu mai as well. On top of that they had pickled cucumbers and dan dan noodles. So, why not? It's counter service and even though there's about a dozen seats it seems like there's brisk business in carryout, Doordash and pickups. I was one of the few outliers who wanted to sit and eat. My food definitely wasn't going to win any prizes for presentation, like I mentioned it seemed like it was all geared towards carry out so all my food was served in those black plastic take out containers, lids included. The xlb were in these little tin foil cups as well which made it slightly less appetizing and very difficult to eat. I had some difficulty in extracting those delicate little dumplings without breaking them open. The har gow was okay, the skin was too thick, in my opinion. I'm used to seeing a translucent skin where you can see the shrimp through it but it just seemed like a shrimp dumpling, but still tasted pretty good. The siu mai were large but felt like it was microwaved-super spongy. I was most disappointed with the cucumbers, they weren't spicy at all, just so watered down that it made me regret buying it. The dan dan noodles were good though though I added more chili oil to it. I think overall, if you're looking for dim sum in Hollywood it's your best option. read more

THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here after our hollywood hike and we had an appetite for a food tour around LA. Ixlb was our first stop and it did not disappoint. I live within delivery distance of ixlb DimSum Eats, so while I've never been to the restaurant in person, I've enjoyed the food on multiple occasions. It travels well and also makes for great leftovers. The menu is heavy on dumplings, and I've loved every variety I've tried. The eponymous xlb, or xiao long bao, are quite tasty, though they probably suffer more than the other offerings from a trip in a car. These are juicy pork dumplings with ground pork, cabbage, ginger, garlic, and scallion, dripping with melty pork soup. I also enjoy the cha siu bao, soft buns stuffed with chopped BBQ honey roast pork. If you like shrimp, both the har gow and the shrimp wonton with chili oil are excellent. I prefer my wontons steamed, but I'm sure the fried ones are good, too. If chicken is more your thing, the pan fried chicken dumplings are solid and the chicken siu mai are lovely, with chicken, sweet corn, and ginger in a delicate egg wrap. I sometimes supplement my dumplings with the pickled cucumber, cold and spicy, or some noodles. The cold sesame roasted garlic noodles are pretty satisfying. The one thing I haven't liked here is the chicken over rice noodles. It's just kind of a bland dish, gently tinged with ginger. On the plus side, my toddler loves them. (He's also greedy for dumplings. It's always a good day for him when we order from this place.) I wouldn't go to ixlb expecting SGV-level dim sum in Hollywood, but it's a stellar delivery option, and the dumplings really hit the spot.
