Itto is one of my favorite sushi spots. The Firebird is nice because they light the roll on fire which most places don't do. The Sake is great and they offer it hot or cold along with my different flavors. I love the Salmon Nigiri and the Hokkaido roll the best. I tried several rolls and enjoyed all of them, but what really stole the show was the nigiri. The nigiri all comes with a higher quality wasabi and a dipping sauce. I tried several of the seared nigiri, and it was just enough to bring out the natural oils and give it a hint of the smoky fire flavor. When you try the Toro (it is worth every penny), take your time and let it literally melt in your mouth to allow the flavor to coat your tongue and savor the mouthfeel this creates. You will not be disappointed. The Dracula roll was also fun. When you open the latch and swing open the casket, you get a burst of smoke that excites your taste buds, and then when you taste it, you're thrown by the sweet ginger sauce. read more

We made a reservation for Omakase and were absolutely blown away by our experience. At your reservation time, you are led into a private dining room. It's almost a dinner-and-a-show experience as Chef talks you thru each of the 15 courses while he and his assistant chefs prepare each course. ikura salmon roe, abalone, different cuts of tuna, Hokkaido uni and more - we felt so spoiled but so very happy to have enjoyed it. I only tried one roll which was good but not a standout like the sashimi salad. I would give this 3.5 stars. I cant ask for too much, trying to get asian food in Utah when coming from the Bay, but was already feeling homesick. Got a bento box, and I kind of liked the chicken teriyaki--it definitely wasn't your traditional teriyaki, on the drier side and seemed to have a hint of curry? Tonkatsu was good, but tempura needed work--batter is definitely not tempura batter. I've been here twice and tried the regular sushi and omakase. The chef who performed Omakase was super friendly and nice. He explained each ingredient and the cooking technique to us patiently. All the sashimi (raw fish) was so fresh, and sweet. Sweet shrimp is my favorite. The raw fish nigiri is sweet and not slimy. The deep friedWe shrimp is flavorful and crunchy. If you can pass the "look", please eat it all, it has rich nutritional benefits (at least that what I was told by my mom). I went back again for their regular sushi, because I can't afford $100+ Omakase too often (besides, it's Utah, no where close to seafood). However, the rolls are a bit disappointing (still good, but not as good). First of all, the sushi rice was a bit mushed (ok, fine, you can call me being difficult, but you'll be, too if you had Omakase first) it's similar to Costco sushi rice. However, karaage chicken is delicious. It's lightly battered, and the seasoning is not overpowering (not too salty, unless you like to eat straight from the salt shaker) different than the other Japanese restaurants in town. I strongly recommend Gunkan!! The quality are almost the same as Omakase. It's the mini-me Omakase. I would definitely come back for Gunkan! read more

First time coming here. Workers were very helpful, on top of it and friendly. They had a decent sushi selection. We went during happy hour which had some rolls discounted. They also have bowls and ramen so it's not just sushi which is nice! Service was excellent but food overall for me was okay, we ended up getting about 5 rolls. Most of them ended up being sweet rather than savory. My favorite roll outta the five was the scallop dream! This was savory and a good flavor! I do not recommend the Grand Canyon. That one was not good at all! It was too sweet and just not a good flavor! But other rolls we got like I said were okay nothing crazy! Coming from Seattle where the fish are swimming in the Puget Sound and the Beatles famously fished from the window of their hotel, we have high expectations and this place delivers. Ordered their maki (traditional rolls with only seaweed, raw fish, and vinegar rice. No other seasonings). It's totally amazing. Fish (toro, hamachi) and green onion was fresh. But I'm a disappointed about their nigiri - fish was fresh but definitely too much soy sauce there (see photo). I could see soy sauce absorbed into rice and then the whole nigiri unfortunately tasted like sweet soy sauce and diminished the fresh taste of the fish. I hope there's an option for not adding soy sauce directly onto the nigiri. read more

I truly wanted to love this place, but Itto didn't impress me. Service is quick and the whole staff is very kind. It was a busy night but we were taken care of right away. We chose the Hollywood roll (one of their most popular), the Las Vegas Roll, my husband got the Chicken Katsu and I got a Tonkotsu Ramen. The rolls tasted okay, but I wasn't super impressed in comparison to other sushi I've had in SLC. The Tonkotsu Ramen had a great broth but I was bummed that I only got half an egg and one slice of pork. My husband said he liked the Chicken Katsu but said he was a bit bummed the the breading was so much and the slice of chicken was so thin. Perhaps I'll give Itto another shot in the future. This review is strictly for my omakase experience at Itto Sushi (Midvale location) I've had a few omakase in California and was super excited to find out that Itto sushi in Midvale now serves Omakase for $80 per person for about 15 courses. Omakase dining requires a reservation and must be made a few days in advance. We were greeted by Chef Itto upon arrival. Chef Itto is also the owner of Itto Sushi. He was super knowledgeable, approachable, and humble as a restaurant owner. He is an experienced chef, lived in Japan for 15+ years, and 6+ years in Hawaii prior to opening up his restaurant in Utah. All of the courses we had were great! I was not sure what the quality of fish to expect since we are in Utah, however, I was very impressed by the high quality of the fish selection. Chef Itto mentioned that all the fish were from Japan, Korea, or California. The uni was also from Santa Barbara, CA. We really enjoyed our omakase experience, everything including rice, soy sauce, and wasabi was made right in the restaurant! All the fine details put into this omakase experience were spectacular! Side note: Chef Itto was also very observant and noticed that I was getting full during the second half of the omakase and started giving me the smaller pieces of fish/shrimp for the rest of the meal. I thought that was super thoughtful and considerate, but because I'm also paying the same price as everyone else. I'd actually prefer him to give me the same portion as everyone else, and I can share it with my bf if I could not finish my portions. read more

I ordered the Itto Nigiri and the Torched Nigiri. The Itto was delicious, I loved the variety of fish and flavors with hints of truffle, lemon, salt, etc. The chef came out to explain where each fish was from. The Torched Nigiri was great but I wish it was hotter, especially since it should be freshly torched. I also thought because the entire thing was torched, it started to all taste the same after awhile. Our party also got the mixed tempura appetizer, agedashi tofu, hokkaido roll, firebird roll, Las Vegas roll, eel nigiri, and a variety of sashimi. The sashimi was so fresh and I didn't expect that from a landlocked state to be honest. The tempura appetizer batter was also so good, it wasn't too oily like most tempura. The hokkaido roll was amazing, loved the combo of all the flavors and how fresh the sablefish was. We ordered the firebird roll twice - the first time it was too cold and the second it was slightly burnt. Definitely some inconsistency with either the rolling of the aluminum foil or the amount of lighter fluid. The agedashi tofu was alright, nothing special but gets the job done. Las Vegas roll was alright. Eel nigiri was tiny, definitely wasn't on par with the rest of the nigiri. The service was amazing, we loved our server Yoshi. He was very attentive, always asking us if we were okay or needed something else. Even when it was really busy on a Saturday night he was still present and didn't forget anything. Every server and chef in the restaurant seemed very nice as well. Everyone in Utah is so nice, very different than California. The ambiance is really casual. The layout is also really random but I think it's because this place expanded. The overhead lights are also random and differ from each section of the restaurant. I tried to take better photos but the lighting was pretty bad. If they redid their decor and furniture this place would look very elevated with the quality of their food to match. This location never disappoints! 7 of us came during their happy hour and got seated right away. The food and service were a 10/10! Between all of us, we ordered a little bit of everything: veggie tempura, miso soup, agedashi tofu (deep fried tofu in a soy broth), mussel shooters, yokisoba noodles, a bento box, sushi rolls, and sashimi. Everything came out quick and tasted so fresh. My favorite was the agedashi tofu appetizer and the Alaskan roll. This roll is slightly spicy and has a great smokey flavor. My partner also tried the lunch chicken teriyaki which came with miso soup, rice, and veggie tempura. As for the rolls, I thought they were good, but not great. I thought the salmon in the philly roll was a little weak. They definitely filled us up and were fine, but I'm not sure that I would have a craving to return in the future for them.
