They should call the restaurant "Yi Sushi Dive" and NOT Bistro. The place has nothing to do with a bistro. Inside is worn out and "divey" but I have plenty of or DIVES that I love and go to all the time if the food is good! Our group of 5 people came at 7:30pm on a Saturday night. It happened to be high school HOMECOMING as well and there were a ton of teenagers all dressed up for the dance and the place was busy. We signed in and waited about 25 minutes for a table. Ordered 4 sushi rolls and a noodle dish. Food was really pretty good and would give the food for the price 4 stars. We ordered 3 more rolls and were discouraged by the server. He explained the kitchen is backed up on tickets and it would be 30 minutes before the 3 sushi rolls would be ready. We ordered them anyway and they came in 35 minutes. The restaurant is UNDER STAFFED and the servers worked hard to try to keep up but the service wasn't very good. Kitchen staff also seemed unorganized and under staffed. The restaurant lacks a good manager that can oversee everything. Bill came for 7 sushi rolls and the noodle dish for only $88 which was a great value! We enjoyed our food and had a good time but there are better options in Salt Lake City. read more

Yi Sushi Bistro isn't offering any in restaurant dining, so we ordered our food online and it was a very easy process. On their website we ordered fifteen rolls for my family. They say they do a "50% off" discount for their rolls. I don't understand why they don't just list the actual price, because that's what they charge all day/everyday. Anyways, there were two favorite kinds of rolls that stood out above the rest. The Angel Roll and the Executive Roll were enjoyed the very most, and disappeared before anything else. In all we had ordered Vegas Rolls, Angel Rolls, Crunch Rolls, Executive Rolls, Ichi/Jenny Rolls, Play Boy Rolls, Christmas Rolls and Philadelphia Rolls. In the rolls, I did notice the breading on the shrimp was not what I'd call tempura. It seemed like a panko breading or something? It was okay, but not tempura like we were expecting. I'm unfortunately pretty disappointed with the overall experience. It took 20-30 min for someone to come take our order. Once our order was taken. It took another 40 minutes for our food to arrive. And it arrived all out of order. (They mixed multiple people's rolls on one plate making it difficult to know who ordered what). The rolls were also poorly assembled. Almost every roll I picked up fell apart and unrolled immediately. Overall flavor/quality of the food was fairly good though. read more

All good things come to an end, it seems. Maybe not, but in this case, the last time I went back to Yi it sorta seemed so. I'm not going to make huge complaints, but they raised the price of most of their really cheap stuff. Is it probably more reasonable now, in light of food costs? Yes. But that's the problem with a price increase. When you were paying $2 and now you pay $2.50 or $3, you're not getting 1.25x or 1.5x the amount, or quality. So it didn't quite go down as smoothly on my last visit. Now, this stuff is still really darn cheap. So when I want to get sushi drunk, I'll still come back. And I'll still order a bunch (though not as much) food, and I'll still hope it's someone's birthday so they'll start that obnoxious song and terrible light. I'll still have somewhat rushed service, and I'll still avoid the 6-8pm (ish) hours because of the crowds. But what I won't do is rave quite so much about cheap sushi. I don't think the phrase "cheap sushi" is ever anything to go too crazy about, but when it's 1.5x, I think that puts me more at .75x rave. read more

The sushi rolls are really good!! We usually order a playboy and a Las Vegas. The playboy is the best we've ever had! Sadly the Las Vegas sucks, it's not good.(too much batter or cream cheese. It's not good) We always order miso soup(awesome), seaweed salad (awesome), edamame (awesome), playboy(awesome). Sometimes we order a salmon bento box, and usually it's been good. Sometimes the salmon is overcooked, and dry, sometimes it's great! Service can be good or really bad depending on who serves you. The front hostess usually isn't friendly, but it's okay! Being as cheap of a person as I am, and sushi being usually pretty pricey, this place wins my heart through their low and affordable prices. OMG so many rolls and so little stomach space! This place was the bomb. Could be my new favorite place in Utah. They lost one star for service because the waitress stopped us from ordering more because it was just the two of us. Which was weird we are paying for it geez...then we go to pay and she was so rude. We tipped well and she said to us at least 3 times that it is xmas Eve. Our bill was like 46.00 and we left a 15.00 tip so I'm not sure what she was so cranky about. UPDATE: Loved the sushi so much that I brought two coworkers here on Thursday. Same thing food is delicious but a different server was kind of meh. I have come to Yi Sushi Bistro quite a few times over the years after moving into the area since it was a nice and convenient place that usually has decent fish with the half off prices (No food poisoning ever, which is great for a half off sushi place). It is dark and dingy, but quiet and clean. However, the last time I visited, after enjoying another nice dinner and receiving the bill I noticed that it seemed a little bit more expensive than expected. After looking closer into the receipt I noticed that the 2 most expensive rolls were only discounted 30% instead of 50% which resulted in about a $20 difference on the final bill if you are accounting the added total, added tax, and added tip due to the error. I brought this up with the waiter when he came back for my card and you could tell he was very surprised that I had caught the error. He said he would fix it right away, and he did remedy the issue, but I just can't stop wondering how many other times I have been only discounted 30% on the most expensive items on my order instead of the advertised 50%? How many other families and patrons have fallen victim to this as well? It is unfair and if the waiter or the restaurant needs to do this to make more money then they should just start selling their product for a higher price. At this point, I will not go back, and I would suggest that everyone checks their receipt prior to paying at this restaurant. read more

In the last 3 weeks, we have been there 3 times for dinner and 1 for lunch. Busy place!!!!!! really busy nights, plan to wait for your table, not very organized, but at the end... worth the waiting time. Servers are nice, they speak Chinese among them, and of course, yell a lot and you in the middle without understanding anything, but still is ok, because of it worth it!!!! The menu is huge, we only tried as of today the Chinese part of the menu, and I can tell is incredible good, the chicken fried rice and the house special fried rice are delicious, general tso chicken, Lemon chicken and sweet and sour pork are amazing, wonton soup really tasty. The service wasn't best but I don't think people come here for that. I was a bit nervous with the signs out front for $1 sushi and $2 rolls but the food is totally edible. It's definitely not the best I have had but it's about the same quality of any all you can sushi place. I got a miso soup and 3 rolls - spider roll, honolulu roll, and the true love roll. The honolulu roll was super spicy and I won't order it again, way spicier than any sushi roll I've ever had. I came around 5:30 on a weekday and they were already starting to get busy. I left around 6:30 and most of the tables were full. They have a lot of people working here so I assume it gets very busy for dinner time. read more

Ok so this place is very decent with the sushi. The sushi is super good but what do you expect for the price you are paying for the rolls. They are really cheap sushi. I have been here a couple times because this was my go to place for a cheap sushi run. Here is the reason why I gave this place three stars. The waitress that was serving us was really confused. She had to come back again to couple check on the rolls we ordered and when she brought the rolls she had to triple check. Another thing that peeved me was that the service was a bit slow. It took them forever to make four rolls. The rolls used to be a very decent size. Two rolls usually fill me up, but when our rolls came out it was tiny and very disappointing. I am not sure if the restaurant has some kind of problem or ingredients got expensive but they are cutting down on size. It was very disappointing and the rolls didn't even fill me at all. We wanted to go try Naked Fish downtown and found that it was closed on Monday's and was getting kinda hungry so opted out for this place. One thing I like about here is the service is so fast and they sling the food out as fast as you can order it. I've been to this restaurant many times, but recently, the service has gotten worse. A friend of mine told me that he kept getting fish bones in his sashimi, but that had never happened to me before. We went there today, and.. you guessed it! One of my salmon sashimi slices had a bone in it. I accidentally swollowed it, but it wasn't too pokey, so it didn't get stuck in my throat (luckily). This is the worst sushi joint in town. I will never forget my treatment here Accused of stealing...on my daughters birthday...all because the waitresses brought the wrong dishes among many, many dishes we ordered. After noticing we were " charged additionally" for items we didn't order...the manager furiously insisted WE WOULD pay for them. Two tiny plates that were more than covered...by the HUGE tip we had left. She continued to scream at us, call us thieves tell us never to come back, though we had loyalty patronized for 5 years as the food and service degraded. Sad to say, but this place has downgraded over the past couple of months. I have been coming to Yi Sushi Bistro even before I got Yelp -since November 2016- and I've had more check-ins than Yelp shows and I used to be a regular; the waitresses and waiters knew who my boyfriend and I were. It started one day a couple months back. I had asked the waitress for more wasabi and ginger because we weren't given enough. The waitress came back with the biggest blob of wasabi and the biggest blob of ginger, almost as if she was throwing shade. I took a picture of it, but I ended up deleting it because I didn't think it was worth posting it, but I wish I had it now; maybe I'll look for it if it's in my phone's memory. I was annoyed, very annoyed, because what was so wrong with politely asking for a little bit more wasabi and ginger. She threw that plate on to our table and I couldn't help but thing she had negative intent for doing something like that. I was angry at the service, but I just thought it was a bad day for her and let it go. Every time I went, the service and food got worse and worse. The last two times I went, I went alone because my boyfriend gave up on Yi's due to its terrible qualities. So, I just sat there in a booth by myself and minded my own business. The service was averagely slow, but the food was shocking. The sushi was kind of gross.... it was so fishy and the size of the rolls became smaller and smaller (you can kind of see the difference between the sizes of how the rolls used to be and how they are now in my pictures). The first time I was like "oh it was just a one time thing" and I came back alone a second time to give them another chance, but each time I felt like throwing up by the end of my meal. I wanted to get the taste out of my mouth. I would gag a couple times and just felt terrible. My first date with my boyfriend was at this sushi place, so it held a sort of meaning to us. I convinced my boyfriend to try Yi's one last time. So, we agreed to try Yi's sushi one last time for our 1 year anniversary, but by the end of our meal we regretted spending it at Yi's. We used to recommend this place to anyone who wanted cheap, but still quality sushi, but now I don't think I would recommend this place to anyone until their quality gets better. I would much rather pay a couple more bucks for less fishy sushi, great service, and a better time. Until Yi's quality goes up, I do not think I will be getting sushi from here very often read more

I've been here about once or twice a week since I moved into the neighborhood and would recommend it to anyone! This has quickly become one of my go to restaurants in the valley. Decent food at a decent price with some really good surprises. "Americanized" isn't a bad word here. One of my favorites is the Lemon Chicken. It's two big breasts fried then sliced versus the cubed chicken then fried. Another sleeper hit is the house fried rice, it's really good fried rice. They have an extensive sushi selection that definitely has it's hits and misses but overall above the other half off sushi joints. Another bonus is they're generally open during most holidays when all others are closed. read more

The food is always good but the waiter kept disappearing and we had another waitress who would give us refills on our drinks. I understand it was a busy night but it doesn't take long to bring out a pitcher of water. Also what I didn't appreciate was I paid in cash and my waiter tipped himself and didn't give back my receipt so it seemed a bit suspicious.
