Shrimp Crunchy & Sunset Rolls

This has been my go-to sushi spot for YEARS! The quality of the sushi and the friendly service never disappoint. The restaurant is also clean and spacious. The pricing is very reasonable. I've tried nearly half the menu at this point and I've been a fan of everything I've tried.

I remember when this place first opened up when I was a kid , the place hasn't changed much still cool people , good food and amazing energy as soon as you walk through the door . It's mostly a sushi place but I actually love the pho . Forever loyal to fat fish and its killer vibe

Food quality: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Value: 5/5 Tried out Fat Fish for the first time and it was a great experience! The staff was welcoming and nice, and the restaurant was clean. We ordered a few different plates to share and everything came out relatively fast. I wish there was gyoza in the menu, but other than that, the menu had a pretty good variety of both fish and shellfish items. Would definitely go back to try other items!

When searching for sushi in town I've had a fair number of recommendations for Fat Fish specifically. The sushi here is decent and they offer a fair variety for rolls. I was able to try a number of different menu items and enjoyed a lot of the menu items. The service was reasonable despite the resultant being pretty busy, and the staff members were pleasant to speak to. Over all the inside of the restaurant was also clean and organized with art and design elements. The only real things that kept them from getting 5 stars, were that the benches were wet when we sat down, and slower drink refills. The menu is pretty hard to navigate if you can't eat shrimp/shellfish, and they rely heavily on crab and shrimp for most their rolls, more than most.

About 2 years ago, we came here on a whim. The sunset roll was amazing with the sour of the lemon and sweet of the sugar. The rest of the rolls were just ok, but given sushi in Utah is highly commercialized, this hit the sushi spot. Rolls made ok, tighter than other restaurants in Utah, and tasted fresh enough. Fish wasn't smelly which is a good sign but a bit chewy, so likely has been frozen. Because of this Nigiri roll, wasn't as flavorful. Rice was white rice, not sushi rice but I've yet to see true sushi rice in Utah. Would come back for the sunset roll

Honestly, a very solid sushi place. The food tastes super fresh and came out super quickly. The prices were very affordable and the service was great.

Came here for lunch during the week and was seated immediately. Open floor plan, but lots of booth seating as well! I ordered the Tempura Veggies, Sunset Roll, and Meatball Pho. The Tempura was a 10/10, lightly battered yet super crunchy and flavorful. The Sunset roll didn't disappoint, and the Pho wasn't too bad. Great place to satisfy your sushi craving if you're in the area!

We love Fat Fish. We've been 3 times so far. The bountiful and south salt lake locations. Both places have consistently been very good with good service. We love all of the different types of rolls and the easy to read menu with pictures of different options.

Came in to make a to go order. Service was ok. I asked a couple of questions about the menu and they really couldn't answer my questions. The restaurant was empty and it appeared they were getting ready for the dinner rush however, it appeared they were most consumed with that than answering questions.

Super thin piece of fish doesn't even completely cover the top of the roll.

I ordered the Tataki, Imperial, and Baja Cali. All three rolls were filled with crab and topped with thin pieces of fish. Two of the rolls were supposed to be spicy and were not. All three were bland and mostly flavorless. Disappointed, will not be purchasing here again.

Fat Fish is a very cute restaurant snuggled just off 3300 S. It has a nice and compact layout. Well placed decor and lots of windows that bring natural light into the restaurant. Its seating is kind of tight, so it can be a little noisy depending on the time. Maybe it's an aesthetic, but I noticed that the booth seats are a little worn and scuffed. Another patron shuffled in their seat and it moved my seat. This place does have hand rolls, though they are a little on the pricier side for what you get. Hand rolls are slightly flavorless here. It's the lack of wasabi that is usually pre-rolled into the hand roll and the Fat Fish sushi chefs added needless garnish. Good plating is important but not at the expense of flavour! Their rolls are priced in mostly three tiers. I chose a mid tier. The Samurai is basically a California roll with a thin piece of Salmon as a hat. Disappointing and I felt cheated. The Salmon was supposed to be lightly seared per the menu description. It isn't. A very forgettable roll. The Pho was good. Broth was clear with a noticeable herb infusion. Not hearty enough for me, but I know some people prefer the lighter soup base. I'll recommend it. They had a good selection of Pho, so I'll be back to try their other variations. This is a nice place for a warm Pho in the cold seasons, in a cute space. Their sushi offerings aren't on point and can be pricey.

I come here 2-3 times a month. Kamakazi and lucky 7 are my favorites! If you're pregnant or vegan they have the best veggie rolls.

This is my second visit to Hamachi. We sat on the patio which is nicely done. It took a little to…read moreget service but once she took our order she was quick and attentive. We had the hamachi appetizer which was a special, and three rolls. The app had a nice balance of flavors. I especially like the red pepper miso sauce on this and another roll. Our rolls were the mammoth (a special today) the green hornet, volcano and Avenue. They were all good!

Came here for a date night with my bf because I was craving their black cod entree, which did not…read moredisappoint. He got the Mr. Miyagi roll, which we really liked. We also shared 4 orders of nigiri: salmon, red snapper, yellowtail, and unagi. Other than the unagi, all of the nigiri might have come with wasabi between the rice and the fish, so be aware in case you don't like wasabi. We agreed that overall the nigiri was just ok, and probably wouldn't get it again. They warned us that the black cod would take about 20 mins to prepare, and it definitely took at least that long. My bf had finished his entire roll and we had finished all of the nigiri with lots of time to spare before the black cod finally came out. Once it did, it was smoking hot and absolutely delicious. I love that it comes skin-on. The skin was delicious, flavorful, and was just the right amount of scorched for me. The fish itself was so tender, silky, and soft. The green beans were lightly cooked so they were crunchier than expected, but were fresh and yummy. The rice was moist, soft, and fluffy. My bf tried it and said it was almost as good as the black cod he's had at Nobu! My one small complaint was that in the middle of the cod, I found 3-4 fish bones. My only other complaint was that service, while kind and friendly, was a bit slow. We got our water probably 10 minutes after being seated -- even a table who came in 5 mins after us got their water first, although they had a different server. I appreciated that the waiter apologized for the wait, but because of that I expected him to be a bit more attentive for the rest of the meal. It took us a long time to get the check, and another while to finally pay and get going. In the end, we ended up leaving at nearly the same time as a table next to us, who arrived at least half an hour after us. Overall I'll definitely be back for the black cod again, and my bf said he'd come back for that (and the Mr. Miyagi) too. We'll skip the nigiri next time and focus on exploring some of their other rolls. Expect a long wait if you get the black cod!

The appetizers come with the hot pot and there are plenty of options to munch on while your ingredients heat up. Korean fried chicken, edamame, and gyoza are my favorites. After ordering your drinks, soup base, and meats (vegetarians get a cheaper option), you can get right to the veg/seafood buffet. They have a great sauce station and a big wall of different kinds of popular ramen packs to use if desired. Once you get settled, you can keep ordering the meats you like until you get full. I like to keep a little note of what I think of each one so I remember for next time. These are my personal opinions: 1 Mr Shabu ribeye - tender lean, best 2 oyster blade muscle - meatier but only ok 3 Mr. Shabu beef kurubi eye - chewy, wavy, not good 4 Mr. Shabu pork single rib belly - fatty, bad 5 US wagyu beef round eye - tender lean, good 6 US wagyu beef clod eye - jerky striated texture, bleh 7 Mr. Shabu beef boneless short rib - oily but in a good way, little chewy, great flavor 8 Mr. Shabu pork collar butt - fatty but comes apart easy, ok 9 Mr. Shabu lamb shoulder - no Usually if I'm playing it real safe with just two, I pick 1 and 7 :) I hope you come to try all the different flavors for yourself!

Found this place and ordered miso soup, salad, sashimi, and two rolls. Everything tasted fine, the service was fine, and I left. Not even halfway to the hotel, which was 20 minutes away, my head started pounding and my stomach was turning. I thought I was catching a cold, maybe being under dressed for the weather (even though had layered up). I barely made it to the parking lot and basically vomited my dinner. I then spent the next hour in the bathroom, after which I felt relieved, so in a way I was glad that I wasn't getting sick. I figured it had to be the food and after I felt better I decided to call Mint to at least let them know that maybe something was in the food so at least they might prevent this for someone else. The manager apologized for my experience and that was it. I think it was either something in the food or had remembered earlier at the dinner all the employees were in the kitchen and I guess one of the sushi chef's just adopted a dog. Everyone was saying how cute it was and petting it, which I thought nothing of at the time other than it being cute. Then because of my experience, I don't really recall that chef, who was the one serving me, ever really leaving my sight or washing his hands. Just speculation of course but hey I got food poisoning from something. And anyone that knows me, knows that I always wash my hands before a meal, especially if I've been in the field working that day. I thought of posting here, but whatever it was over with and I'm busy. The next day, I got a voicemail letting me know that they felt bad for my experience and would compliment the dinner. I thought that was a nice gesture so I returned the message and left a voicemail of my own. No response, and I tried two more times over the next week. So here we are two weeks after and I'm thinking of sharing the story or not. Maybe they thought I was grifting for a free dinner and changed their mind, so that's why they didn't call me back? Maybe no one else got sick and there was no way to prove my story other than my word. Maybe they thought because I saw the dog, I would use that as an opportunity to eat for free? I never asked for my meal to get comped, I just wanted the establishment to know so they could prevent it from happening to someone else. Again, wasn't planning on sharing this on Yelp, but this happened two weeks ago and I feel that if I didn't share my experience it would be like a tree falling in a forest, does it even make a sound or did it really happen? Yes this actually happened to me so I'm letting management know that I'm not some anonymous guy that was trying to victimize myself for a free meal.

I was randomly wearing a HP shirt and when we got seated, the cocktail menus was Harry Potter themed! Of course my friend and I had to try drinks off that menu. I got the avada kadavra & my friend got the obliviate. They were delicious!! I got the Earth & Celeste rolls. Love that they have vegan options outside of just cucumber or avocado rolls! I loved how the lemon slices elevated the flavor of the roll on the Earth, and the Celeste was great as well! The rolls were delicious as expected and I can't wait to come back next time I'm in town again.
