As a lower class rising middle class citizen this has been a life saver.Im a young adult, car share has made it possible for me to get to work take care of my clients and simply enjoy life agin with the freedom of the car . Carshare is a company that allows you to rent a car for short trips for $5-8 per hour and 30 cents per mile. Just reserve the car on your phone or computer and swipe your membership card to enter the vehicle. Pros: * Usually there is a car within a few blocks of me. Lots of vehicles in downtown, fall creek, collegetown or cornell. * Save money by selling your car. If you don't drive to work carshare is almost as convenient as owning one and at a fraction of the cost. The price of insurance, gas, parking and repairs per year is more than the price of taking 3 trips per week in a carshare vehicle. So even if someone gave you a used car for free, it is more economical to use carshare. * Your insurance is included and it is very comprehensive. You have 1 million in liability coverage, and a $60 deducible. * Half off prices from 11pm - 7am! Wegmans is open 24 hours, so pocket the savings with a late night or early morning grocery run. * Everyone who works or studies at Cornell should join Ithaca Carshare, even if they own a car. The cheapest plan is effectively free to join. Parking at Cornell is expensive. Take the bus to work and use one of the Cornell carshare cars when you really need to make a mid-day trip. * Access to a pickup truck, perfect for moving and hauling furniture. * Fantastic customer service. People will pick up on their 24 hour line even at 3am! * discounts at local businesses - 5% off at select restaurants and shops * cars are hatchbacks, making them ideal for carrying lots of stuff * cars are all fuel efficient. Help save the environment by using this service. cons: * Long road trips are not economical in a carshare car due to mileage fees. In addition renting a car from a private rental company is expensive because your carshare insurance does not cover rental cars (unlike a private policy if you own a car). Expect to pay $30 per day more renting a car than a car owner would pay. * Carshare used to have a discount at national car rental which helped mitigate this added cost of carshare. Unfortunately with national's closure, carshare does not lead to a discount at any car rental location in Ithaca. * If there isn't a car where you live or work this is obviously a con. But Carshare often expands their fleet, but they do only go where there is enough demand to justify the cost. This means no cars on the outskirts of Ithaca, yet (but most people live or work near a vehicle). * they increased their weekend rate to help encourage people to run errands during the week. It makes it easier to get a weekend car when you really need it, so this is a pro in disguise. * It would be nice if they had a phone app, but the mobile version of their website was recently upgraded, and is easy to use considering it isn't an app. read more

They don't CARE about the drivers AT ALL. I called the assistance hotline and they were extremely rude when I had a question regarding the safety of the car. THE SAFETY! On top of providing DANGEROUS cars for the customers, the customer service staff is reluctant to help you with any of your dire and immediate questions. A friend told me Ithaca Carshare was NOT worth it... I should've listened. read more

We went next door to Hertz who was happy to help us, friendly, and had multiple vehicles to choose from.

The employees have always been helpful and efficient, and the drop-off is pretty simply. But two things: first, the drop off of the car isn't very convenient to where you need to return the keys. The return parking lot is on the other side of the building of this (very small) airport. And then there's no easy way to get back to the front of the location other than walking a longer way. It's not awful and is totally possible, but it's also awkward and kind of annoying. And oddly enough, I never get a receipt from this place. At Enterprise, if I drop off a car after hours, I always have a receipt emailed to me whenever the shop opens. But at this Budget, I have never received a receipt from a drop off. And they tell you to turn in your documentation/paperwork when you drop the key off, so you're kind of left with no paperwork? It's so strange, and I wonder if this is Budget-specific or if this is location-specific. Interesting. Either way, this location is the only Budget in Ithaca and is conveniently located near my home, so I'll still continue using it. But it does come with its downsides...

I reserved the ride 2 days ahead and specified the pick-up time (in writing, in the online form). I called to confirm that they had received the request. When the day came, no Gadabout showed up. When I called, they had the wrong pick-up time (an internal communication error). There was no other option but to cancel the appointment. The service is a wonderful idea and I would be willing pay more that $3 per ride for this service. It's a shame that it does not seem reliable (or at least not punctual). The doctor's office confirmed that their patients often wait a long time to get picked up after their appointments end. I'm just sharing this experience for others who may need such a transportation service. If timing is important and you don't want to wait a lot, you should consider an Uber or a friend.

I always take a book. I like to read so waiting is not a problem for me. I think I read that each trip costs them about $26.00. But they only charge me $3:00. The things I loved: -they support e-tickets!! This may seem like a no brainer, but as Ithaca busses go, believe me it's not. I thought this made the process wayyy easier. - the outlets on board actually work!! Again, not as much of a given as you'd think. -your spot is reserved. They make you buy a ticket based on bus time, so no matter where you are on line, you'll get on the bus. The sh*tshowy part: -the "bus station" which I think is the pharmacy?? Is closed... so online is pretty much your only option to purchase tickets. -they stop at Binghamton on the way to New York. Every other bus service also does this, but the others at least let you know in advance. Would love to see a truly direct bus route. -there are ~technically~ two buses per day to New York, but the later is a 10 hour ride due to some confusing layovers... so there's really only one bus a day. Not sure if this is a Covid development but the inconvenience cannot be overstated. Last thing for the high-stress people like me: there is only one place that the Greyhound departs from in Ithaca, on Green Street in front of Urban Outfitters. It's a little unclear on the website, but here's your confirmation that you're in the right spot take a deep breathe.

Or how sketchy the bathrooms are, where one of the toilet stalls is taped up with a note indicating that it's out of order and there's no toilet paper in it? Or how one sink has -no- running water, and the other sink is marginally better... but good luck finding hand soap or paper towels. The sole attendant was "helpful" in the most basic way: he greeted us, then pointed to the door through which we'd be boarding our bus after we explained we were waiting on our return trip back to NYC. Helpful, indeed... considering all of the -two- doors one could choose from. I tried coming up with any transit hub (is that even a relevant term for what this place is?) that's shoddier. Nope. Not coming up with a thing. Fail.

If that wasn't bad enough when I got home I realized the light on the back wasn't even installed properly. I went back to the shop to get it fixed, something that took 30 seconds. This was insane to me. A task that they initially billed .3 hours for to take 30 seconds to redo told me I was being exorbitantly overcharged. I was able to get a refund on the bulb but I feel as though they thought I wasn't smart and didn't understand I was being scammed. Do not go to Patterson's! I've had brakes done and they gave me information to get a rebate. Mike Sealy is extremely honest and a great mechanic! I asked him to check several things as suggested by another dealer and he showed me that half of those were unnecessary. Elizabeth and Ruth are no ordinary receptionists, they are also well versed and actual mechanics themselves. The atmosphere is friendly, honest and positively a good experience.
