Ya know, for a bus line I would say four stars is pretty impressive. In my experience busses are kinda always a sh*tshow and this was comparatively pretty great. The things I loved: -they support e-tickets!! This may seem like a no brainer, but as Ithaca busses go, believe me it's not. I thought this made the process wayyy easier. - the outlets on board actually work!! Again, not as much of a given as you'd think. -your spot is reserved. They make you buy a ticket based on bus time, so no matter where you are on line, you'll get on the bus. The sh*tshowy part: -the "bus station" which I think is the pharmacy?? Is closed... so online is pretty much your only option to purchase tickets. -they stop at Binghamton on the way to New York. Every other bus service also does this, but the others at least let you know in advance. Would love to see a truly direct bus route. -there are ~technically~ two buses per day to New York, but the later is a 10 hour ride due to some confusing layovers... so there's really only one bus a day. Not sure if this is a Covid development but the inconvenience cannot be overstated. Last thing for the high-stress people like me: there is only one place that the Greyhound departs from in Ithaca, on Green Street in front of Urban Outfitters. It's a little unclear on the website, but here's your confirmation that you're in the right spot take a deep breathe. read more

This Greyhound terminal is kind of like a cross between a richly historical edifice and... a country redneck's tool shed. The kind that hasn't been cleaned in forever, has broken tools and equipment that should have been fixed or thrown out long ago, and doesn't have the faintest inkling of what a power grid is. Can we talk about how unpleasant it can get in a building that has no air conditioning in the afternoon Ithaca sun on a day that gets well into the 90s? Or how sketchy the bathrooms are, where one of the toilet stalls is taped up with a note indicating that it's out of order and there's no toilet paper in it? Or how one sink has -no- running water, and the other sink is marginally better... but good luck finding hand soap or paper towels. The sole attendant was "helpful" in the most basic way: he greeted us, then pointed to the door through which we'd be boarding our bus after we explained we were waiting on our return trip back to NYC. Helpful, indeed... considering all of the -two- doors one could choose from. I tried coming up with any transit hub (is that even a relevant term for what this place is?) that's shoddier. Nope. The people working at this bus station, especially the older woman, are the rudest, least helpful people I have ever met. Like I just want to know where the bus is gonna be when it arrives, since you obviously don't announce arrivals and there is no sign, it's not my fault you have to live and work in this frozen ghost town. I'm not having a good time traveling in and out of Ithaca on a greyhound bus, I'm not trying to get you to have a good time working here, I just want answers. Also, "student discounts" means only students with the student advantage card I think, because they're not gonna take your university id and give you a discount. read more

I really don't understand these reviews. Yes, Greyhound is not the most pleasant travelling experience, but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Don't be expecting anything above "economy" travel. I have taken the Greyhound from Ithaca multiple times to and from Cleveland, OH, and I have never had a bad experience on the Ithaca end of things. The bus has been on time, has not been overbooked, and has been a generally pleasant experience. That said, here are some tips: 1) Get there somewhat early, but not really early. Ithaca isn't a busy station (except possibly around holidays) and the lady at the front desk will kinda ridicule you if you show up really early. 2) Print your ticket, or if you're doing Will Call, print the entire confirmation page. 3) Watch your luggage at transfers! I've never had problems with this, but from what I've heard other people have. 4) Don't count on Wifi. Bring a book or music or something. 5) BRING FOOD. Greyhound stations usually have nothing but overpriced vending machines, so bring granola bars or fruit or something. 6) Expect the worst?? Read up on Greyhound horror stories the night before to psych yourself out, and the experience will almost certainly be better than what you are expecting. TLDR: Greyhound is an affordable and semi-reliable form of transportation, and it is often fine. The horror stories aren't the norm. read more

Super cheap. Gets you to where you need to go, but you definitely get what you pay for. I feel like these guys would have better reviews if they didn't lie about what you needed on their site. Tips. 1. Get there early (but just like 10 minutes, not the 45 it insists on) 2. Print out your ticket (even though it says you can have an electronic copy on your phone) 3. Don't print out your ticket double sided! Got chewed out for that because "it states not to do so in the instructions". Uh, no, it does not say that anywhere. The old lady at the station is the sole reason why I will never ever use Greyhound or any other bus service that picks up at this station. I purchased a ticket online through greyhound.com. When I arrived at the station to pick up my hard copy ticket, the old lady dished out some verbal abuse for not having a hard copy printout of my confirmation. She said it was required. I said the confirmation stated I just need to tell her the reference number (which is true). I tried to show her my confirmation with reference number on my iPhone, but she said that was not a hard copy printout. She then asked me to step aside and would get back to me after processing the people behind me. Finally, she "called it in" and was able to print out my ticket just seconds before my bus was scheduled to leave. As she handed it to me, she accused me once again of not following directions and bringing a hard copy printout of my confirmation. Boo this lady. To all you young ladies out there, please don't ever end up this way. Go use Campus to Campus bus service instead. They are much friendlier and much more web savvy. For example, you just board the bus and the bus driver checks your ticket using a web application on his mobile phone. Paperless! read more

Beware the old lady!!! During the numerous bus trips I made from here to Boston and back, I always got the sickening gut feeling about this one lady I had to get through in order to board. It would never fail: I would follow the directions I had printed out perfectly and still something would go wrong. I thought I was alone first, but after talking to some fellow travelers, I learned I was not the only one terrified of her. The two guys that work there however, are perfectly nice and willing to help if you have a problem. Just be sure to get there an hour or more ahead of time, have all your paperwork printed out and have your forms of ID!! Thinking of this place still gets me nervous.... read more

This bus station is awful. I don't know what it is about taking a bus that attracts a rough crowd but you can for certain find it here. I'm a student and was going to take the bus and asked for the student discount ticket to the man at the counter. He wouldn't honor my student ID because I was "from a college very far from here." What?! Just because I'm a student 4 hours away doesn't make me less of a student. What does it matter where I am standing when I purchase the ticket if I'm enrolled in a University? Please someone explain how this makes sense. Oh, right... it doesn't. Is that part of working for the bus company? Make sure nothing makes sense and remember to annoy the people who are paying for the tickets to keep your company there so that you continue being employed. Every time I go in the people are rude. It got so bad that I started to take Zimrides. For all of you who don't know what Zimride.com is, its a car share program so someone with a car posts a ride and you pay to ride with them. That's right... I (a 20 something female) am willing to get in the car with complete strangers so that I don't have to put up with the awful service and disgruntled workers here. Eek! I recently took the bus from NYC to Ithaca and back. The experience was very good. On the way to Ithaca, I had one of the new Greyhound buses with wifi and outlets. On the way back I had a Trailways (?) bus that also had wifi and outlets. The Ithaca station is basic: sitting area and restrooms. The workers behind the desk were helpful though a little curt. Taking the bus for 4-5 hours will always be a painful experience. The Greyhound folks held up their end of the bargain with the bus, station, etc so I am giving them a positive review. read more

I understand that the shuttle may be canceled due to the coming snowstorm, but its very disappointed that the front desk can not verify if the shuttle is on schedule or canceled. Clearly, the capability of dealing with emergency is questionable. No need to mention the front desk attitude. They dont want to help you at all. read more

Greyhound is awful!! They left my son at a bus stop in the middle of the winter in the middle of the night. They arrived at the bus stop late and the other bus left already and they just left him. I had to pay $197 to an Uber to take him the rest of the way and they offered me a $20 voucher. I would miss seeing my son for a vacation before I send him or any of my other children on a greyhound ever again. They have waisted hours of my time telling me it's not their problem because other bus lines were hired by them to transport him home. They were incompetent and put my son in great danger and are unwilling to take responsibility for their own actions. DON'T put your kids on Greyhound buses. read more

Congratulations Ithaca on having the worst bus station I have ever been to (and I've been to Port Authority at 4 in the morning when the cops are kicking out the homeless sleeping there, so that's saying a lot). This place doesn't even have the basic necessities like bathrooms. There seems to be a permanent sign that the bathrooms don't work and never will. Also, the lady who was working there had an attitude. I had tickets for greyhound (very reliable) and first she tells me that the greyhound isn't coming, and then tells me "I didn't get a direct ticket" (which I did) and tries to sell me her company, Shortline's, bus ticket. I've had nothing but miserable experiences with Shortline, so why would I buy that bus ticket. Especially when I already had a ticket! She finally tells me that I have to wait outside for the bus, since she has nothing to do with it. Thank God it wasn't cold. Don't waste your time getting there early. 15 minutes early is more than sufficient. If you have a greyhound/trailways ticket, skip the lady inside and just wait outside by the outdated greyhound sign. read more

Horrible! Since this is the only way of affordable transport to New York City, it gets crazy hectic during school breaks. If the bus is full, you have to wait hours for the next one, unless they decide to deploy another bus. Also, the ride is unbearably long if it isn't the express one. Once, one of the buses broke down so we had to wait hours at a gas station for another one to arrive. Everything is so slow, but what can you do? Beggars can't be choosers. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE. Not only was the bus late, but the bus driver also had temper issues. He looked at my ticket, and did not accept it because I printed the same one ticket from Ithaca to Syracuse Airport front and back(due to the default settings to print front and back on the school printers). He yelled at me, kicked me out of line, and told me I had to buy ANOTHER ticket. At the time, the Ithaca bus terminal line was a mile long, and I would have been late had I waited. Luckily, a friend was there and helped me buy ANOTHER ticket( all because I printed my ticket on both sides of the paper). Hence, I was the ONLY person who had to buy a ticket twice, and spend twice the money as well as endure such poor attitude. The person at the front desk, had poor attitude, and proceeded without returning my credit card. How careless...After getting back in line, the bus driver yelled at me again. " Are you going to Syracuse MALL or Syracuse AIRPORT?" in a mocking and condescending tone. When I finally arrived at Syracuse Airport, I ran into a friend, who said he also printed on both sides. Whereas I bought the correct ticket to the airport for an extra dollar, he bought the wrong ticket to Syracuse Mall. Of course he was yelled at as well, BUT he did have to buy another ticket. Not only was the bus driver RUDE, but he exhibited unfair treatment. That day, I almost missed my flight across the country. The driver was rude, incompetent, inconsiderate, and out of line. The only reason students take this bus line is that it is the only affordable bus. Horrible customer service. It would bring more satisfaction spending the money on a taxi. Besides my OWN experience, the only two times I have been on greyhound.. I witnessed workers at the front desk yell at their customers for no good reason. They have absolutely no respect. read more

Never purchasing from Greyhound again! They steal your money. As long as you purchased a ticket from them, they don't care what happens next. Twice I bought a round trip ticket from Ithaca to Philadelphia. Twice, I could not take the bus from NYC transfer to Ithaca because the bus is operated by COACH. Coach does not recognize your greyhound ticket. Greyhound will not recognize your own ticket because you are supposed to take coach. This is seriously a huge problem in their system and I have to rebuy coach tickets to get back. read more

Absolutely horrible!!! I wanted to go from Ithaca to Rochester, which is only 2 hours away. My bus was supposed to leave at 7:30pm (time where the station also closes) and as I was waiting for my bus to come, the guy in charge came to see me and told me that my bus was 3 hours late!!!! There was no snow whatsoever on the roads, and there was absolutely no excuse why it was so late!! Of course I didn't want to stay 3 hours in the cold alone waiting for this bus so I decided to take the one the next day and it basically ruined my weekend!!! HORRIBLE! read more

Invariably I have been confronted with unpleasant staff, a completely inadequate facility, and throngs of customers who don't understand the bizarre and Byzantine rules that greyhound has made. I am giving this review no stars. We have had the worst experience with Greyhound. Twice my daughter has been basically left stranded in bus stations in another state. She was taking the bus from Ithaca to Washington DC Union Station. The bus from Ithaca always leaves late so that she misses the first connection in Scranton and then the second connection in Harrisburg. The connections she could take after she misses the one she paid for have her arriving in the middle of the night instead of the evening. The first time we had to drive to Scranton, PA to go get her since the other connections were completely screwed up and the second time (last Friday night) I had to get her in Harrisburg PA so that she again wouldn't arrive sometime in the middle of the night. We've never received a refund (they've ignored us) and the bus drivers are completely unhelpful and rude. For some reason, the trip back to Ithaca from DC doesn't seem to be problematic. Just the trip home. But we're not doing this again. Complete waste of money. read more

OK, this isn't technically about the Greyhound bus line per se, but about a particular person working behind the counter. You guessed it! The older woman who couldn't have been more unhelpful on my daughter's first bus trip from Ithaca to Boston. We arrived an hour early, ticket in hand, and sought some info from the woman behind the counter. There was no one else in the bus station but she acted totally put out answering our couple of questions. When she did answer, she gave us totally wrong information (which, by the way, could have been avoided if she had only looked at the ticket we had in hand). Additionally, the bathrooms were closed because "there was a break-in and the toilets were clogged up with used needles." Yikes! Eventually another person came in to work and gave us the much needed info we required, including which side of the bus station the bus would park in, the time it was scheduled to arrive, and that it would be a Trailways bus, not a Greyhound bus, as the ticket stated.
