First time here, they have a wide selection of sandwiches, bagels, spreads, cookies, breads etc. Let me tell you I love the food, ordered the Anne of Danby and removed the cheese and onion and replaced it with roasted red peppers and it was phenomenal. I also took with me a fresh loaf of bread and that was wonderful. The staff was also very hospitable and very helpful and super friendly. I recommend everyone to come here and try the food out; you won't be disappointed. read more

Sandwich? Want one? On a bagel? Ok! Hot prepared food from the buffet? Yea they got that! Soups? They got soups. Vegan food? Vegetarian? Meats? They have all of that. The food is great the people are wonderful. The samples are fun too. The coffee looked great and the rotating tap of local beer was also very tempting but to early when we wandered in. I cannot thank Ithaca Bakery enough for helping me deliver cupcakes on my son's birthday. Unfortunately, I had originally ordered with Rashida Sawyer Bakery weeks before and 48 hours before his birthday, Rashida Bakery called to say they do not deliver on Sundays. Their only suggestion was delivering the cupcakes on Saturday, which was not my son's birthday and not what we had agreed to. I immediately called Ithaca Bakery and they agreed to custom make 2 dozen pumpkin cupcakes (for the price I was paying for 1 dozen at Rashida Sawyer bakery) and deliver them on Sunday (which was less than 48 hours away). Ithaca Bakery has a kind staff, delicious cupcakes, and I am so grateful that they were able to provide cupcakes to my son on his birthday when his family could not be there to celebrate with him. We were visiting with some friends from out of town and a local recommended this place to us. From the moment we got there it was pure chaos. I even heard two employees behind the counter discussing how confusing and crazy it was. There were multiple lines- pay, order, deli, pastries, bagels, coffee- who even knows what else or where you needed to go, weaving and wrapping around the store, no clear distinguinshment. We were put in a line by an employee but turns out it was the wrong line and then other people apparent "regulars" cut us because we were not zigged in line when we should have zagged. It was a hot mess with people yelling and everyone was crowded like sardines. It didn't feel safe or organized. Our friends ordered a bagel with cream cheese which took literally 28 minutes to receive based on the receipt time. They also ordered smoothies which took a considerable time. I will give two compliments- the ice coffee was good and quick, and the chocolate chip cookie was good. There was also a little children's nook in the back which was helpful as we were with four children. This isn't a place I would recommend at the moment until they bring some order to the complete and udder chaos. read more

Beautiful city with great restaurants... and ithica bakery didn't disappoint us ... we ordered IB olympian and Tuscan Verde sandwich... nicely done ... liked it alot . I cannot believe it took me so long to come here! They have an great little breakfast buffet with AWESOME biscuits and gravy! The home fries were so-so, as I feel they could have been seasoned more. Induces instant paralysis in newbies, at least it did for this noob :) The Ithaca bakery makes hot fresh meaty (or vegan!) sandwiches, brews great coffee drinks with Cayuga beans, sells hot fresh food by the pound on a steam table, makes cakes and pastries, and oh yeah bakes a variety of rustic breads like a rosemary salt focaccia. Also offers many NY state cheeses, plus an entire cold case dedicated to cream cheese for all kinds of College Town bagels! The zillion sandwich choices are spread across more blackboards that I could count, that's where the paralysis really set in, but I finally chose a fine one: smoked salmon, capers, sprouts, cream cheese and egg on pumpernickel bread. Outstanding but a tad spendy at $9. If you're lucky you can grab a table and linger. Surprisingly quiet inside considering how busy it can get. Staff is young, friendly and a bit disorganized, but they hunt you and your number down eventually and bring food & drinks right to your table. Vegetarian rating: solid five stars, they have many veggie and vegan sandwich choices, either on bread, a bagel or a wrap. The hot food bar has more choices, including a bean burrito when I visited. This should really be a 2.5....it all depends on what you hope to get here which depends on whether or not you would enjoy this place. The staff are all pretty nice. I like being treated like a human being. The coffee is good. Not too strong and not too watery-like. I hate drinking burned coffee and many more places than Starbucks serves burned coffee (industry dirty secret). The food: depends on what you want. Bagels w/ various toppings are excellent w/ lots of choices of cream cheese if that is your thing and they have nice looking lox. The breakfast hot bar.....I passed on this but my partner got it. Everything is hard. The problem of maintaining a hot food bar is to make sure the eggs are not continuing to cook and the potatoes don't get hard and form a rubbery crust. We were too late getting here (9:20 a.m.). The two types of local turkey and pork were flavorful but tough to eat. The egg fritatta was hard and dried out. He got the cold German potato salad and the potatoes weren't cooked right (hard) and the dressing on it was basically oil and fresh herbs but it was lacking seasoning. I ordered the Melissa's Egg (egg/cheese on bagel) but substituted a croissant for the bagel. I think the cheese is supposed to be cheddar but I got Swiss on mine for some reason. The egg looked like an egg product - light yellow and lots of air pockets in the egg that looked like it was poured into a round small waffle press (the indentation of the egg on the top looked that way). A bouncy plastic hard egg on a beautiful nicely made croissant. I ended up tearing the egg off my second half and tossing it. I have a stomach issue that makes eating well done eggs hard to get down. I usually make soft scrambled eggs. My partner remembers coming here 3 years ago and we enjoyed our lunch here. We are wondering if this little gem was bought out and now become more corporate like. This place used to have SO much more charm... now it's huge, crowded, the menu is overwhelmingly large, and there are different places to line up and place your order? It used to be quaint and they'd call your name to pick up your food - now you sit and wait for the server. I used to come here every weekend when I was a student at Ithaca College, but upon a recent visit to Ithaca this past weekend, I walked in and was SO confused! It's hectic, chaotic and I felt so rushed to make a decision because it would've taken me 20 minutes to read the menu! As for the food, I ordered a chicken curry sandwich but asked for it on a plate instead of in sandwich form since I didn't want the bread. It was tasty. My husband ordered a sandwich that had roast beef on it - either it wasn't sliced thin enough or the pieces were just too big in general because he couldn't bit through it. It was super messy and very frustrating to take a bite and then have the ENTIRE slice of beef come out of the sandwich. It was tasty, but not ideal. A little overpriced as well, and that's coming from a reviewer who lives right outside of NYC and its prices. Good, strong iced coffee is a plus. read more

This place is what Panera wish it could be. Panera always has a through put problem but not here. The sandwiches are creative and not too bad on the wallet. I got the thai chicken curry panini and the Ira's big fish special i think that's what its called. The was panini good but the big was was terrible because it wasn't on a bagel. Teh smoked fish and cream cheese needs to be on a bagel. But over all its nice to order your item or in my case items and they give you a # and someone brings your food out. The restaurant is wide and spacious with a nice flow around the open air bakery area through which you can see many baked goods, loaves, and pastries to nibble on. I'm assuming it'd be pretty similar here. Food Review -- If you take one look at the picture I've posted with this review, you'll know why Ithaca Bakery is getting a 5-star review in the Food Category. Seriously, would you look at that sandwich? The best part is, it tasted even better than it looked. The West Willow BBQ was perfect, not too much sauce, and the mountain of pulled pork dwarfed the coleslaw - in my opinion, that's how every pulled pork sandwich should be made. Each bite was a juicy, sweet & salty, savory piece of heaven. In short, this sandwich was something from God's own lunch menu. Service Review -- Ithaca Bakery actually delivers for FREE. Crazy, huh? As long as you order between 11am - 2pm, they'll deliver straight to your door Monday through Friday. The delivery woman was very nice, but I had one hiccup. I had scheduled my delivery through their website for the 12:30pm-1pm time frame (you can choose) but they arrived at 11:30am...what if I hadn't been home? Oh well, I wasn't hungry yet so I had to wait and reheat the burger when lunch hour came around. Overall Impression -- Besides the fact that my food arrived an hour early (which seems like an odd complaint), the experience was great. Being sick, it was a great change not to be cooking and to have a ready-made meal. Ran across this place while visiting from NYC. It's a mom and pop owned business. It was quite busy on a Friday morning. They had three different set up one for sandwiches one for coffee and the other pastries. We ordered their chocolate covered brownie cheesecake bars that was excellent. The star of the show was a vegan rasberry crumble bar that had a great buttery flavor that had a nice chewy texture. Unfortunately they're mini cheesecake was not very good at all. It had a very eggy flavor and was topped with a Swiss merange butter cream swirl. It was beautifully presented but not good at all. I would definitely try this place again I'm sure there are many more great things to try. read more

Really??? Must not be at the same store as the rest of the reviewers. Food ... for what you get, small portions and not very good Service ... 2 out of 3 of our items were wrong. You would think at a minimum our replacements would jump to the head of the line but no, over 30 minutes later I had to ask and the items were just getting ready. Should have received a refund. The eggs are pre-made like at a dunkin donuts!!! How dare they! We also got a cinnamon bun and a blueberry scone - how can you screw the 2 up! Food was delicious...there are only a couple vegan options for sandwiches, but once I got my Susie's Garden it was really good! Everything was fresh and there was a healthy portion. This was a pit stop before driving back to Boston. The place was busy during lunch. The menu was overwhelming but everything sounded great. I asked the cashier what he recommended and went with a sandwich that had ham and brie. I thought he said the bread was challah or French Toast but it turned out to be ciabatta bread- I think it was The Euro. The husband had a pastrami sandwich which was loaded with meat and was warm and fatty. My sister had a croissant sandwich with vegetables(Cayuga croissant). Lots of selection for everyone including a lot of vegetarian options. They had these almond cookies to sample that were really good - like almond macaroons. read more

The book is still open on this place for me. There were a lot of great looking menu items. I am a sucker for a hot corn beef sandwich so that is what I had. No frills, just grain mustard on rye. It was good, but a little dryer and tougher than I like though seemed cooked fresh. I like my corned beef steamed and juicy. Since I am in town working near here, I will try tomorrow. Really disappointed with todays order and probably won't go back. I ordered a BLT and in notes I put down please just toast the meat and cheese and bun but not lettuce or tomato. When I got all the way home I opened it up and there was only bacon and cheese on it nothing else. How is that a blt that's just a bacon and cheese on bread. I liked the atmosphere of this place! Great to eat-in, if you can find a seat, lol. Very busy on the weekend. The bagels were good, but nothing that special. The Rye bagel is my favourite. Unfortunately they had no pumpernickel bagels. The Black and White cookie was great with a soft cake underneath. Vanilla cupcake is ok. I have mixed feelings as others do. I love baked goods and am on the road for work and stop at just about any bakery that I pass. I have to say that if I am in the area, I do stop in. Though, admittedly, it is for a few old standby items that I like. I guess what it really boils down to is the cookies. The jumbo mocha chocolate chip cookies are AWESOME! Compared to the majority of the rest of the items, reasonably priced. The Ginger cookies are good as well. I also like their desert stone cookies. The hot food bar has some pretty appealing items but the per pound price does not make it worth it. I had a sandwich once and it was not bad, but not great enough that I have ever ordered another. If you are in the area, I think it is the best bakery. I also want to say that some of the staff are super friendly and some are less than friendly. This is my favorite place to stop every time I go to Ithaca. They have a huge variety of foods for breakfast, lunch, or diner - salads, soups, breads, delicious sandwiches on thickly sliced bread (Pumpernickel or whole wheat), pre made meals, desserts, drinks, you name it! Fantastic food in a lovely setting! This is an order at the counter and then get your food delivered to your table kind of place. Three of us had sandwiches.... one tuna salad with tomatoes and avocado on pumpernickel, one roasted turkey with cold slaw and Swiss cheese on pumpernickel, and one grilled pepper jack cheese with spinach on multi-grain. They were all delicious (although I found the tuna salad a bit on the drippy side). The prices were fair.... especially with the obvious high quality of the ingredients.
