Great service and food was good. However, ordered a salad for 18.00 and added tuna for an additional 6. That's a 24 salad and when I asked for an additional serving of salad dressing I was told that it would be an additional charge! For the 24 salad, and the tiny little "to go " cup of dressing, you're going to upcharge for a splash more dressing?? So tacky and cheap. That is enough to keep me from going back. Visiting Ithaca and the beer place was sadly closed. Decided to come here and get a local beer and something to eat. The menu is impressive! There is lots to choose From. I wrestled with the veggie burger option which is well reviewed and saw many people ordering. Sadly, the starter was the most impressive item for me. We found this place through Yelp and decided to try it out for dinner. We waited about 5 minutes before we were seated as it was almost packed by 5:30 pm. People tend to eat/drink early here. We sat near the back across from a semi-open kitchen which is always nice to see. The washroom was not ideal as one has to wait since they only have one for each gender. I got a crab cake salad since I LOVE crab cakes. It came with four which I think 5 crab cakes would have been better - for the price of the dish. Salad dressing was on the side which was nice. The greens were fresh, not wilted at all. The crab cakes could have been hotter. It was left to sit out. My partner had a "sexy" burger which he devoured. The patty was thick, juicy and flavourful. He had a salad on the side. Presentation could have been better here. Overall, a good experience to end our night in Ithaca. Go for their waterfalls!! read more

From beginning to end this place was great! The hostess that greeted us when we came in was so friendly and personable. We didn't have a reservation but she was able to seat us right away. She did recommend making a reservation if we came back. The food was fantastic. Our table ordered two burgers cooked to perfection. The French dip sandwich had tender beef. The Cobb salad was large and was described by the person eating it as the best salad he had eaten in his life. The French fries were delicious! This is a must stop for a casual delicious meal. Party of 6 did take an hour but that was at 6pm on a Friday night. Made a trip to ithaca this week and stopped by here for some beers and burgers! The inside was pretty packed, and so we opted for outdoor seating. Everything about the experience was pretty good except for the fact that there were no heat lamps so it got pretty chilly Luckily some beers, burgers, and soup helped to keep us warm! The 6 onion soup ($6) was probably the highlight of the meal! the soup was hot, sweet, and savory. there was a super distinct onion taste, and the provolone + swiss cheese on top was to die for! made for the craziest cheese pulls I also had the "perfect" burger ($16). I did not expect to find a damn good burger in ithaca, but surprises like this are always welcome! the beef was cooked to order - i got rare which came out a bit medium rare, but the patty was still super soft and juicy while having a proper burger patty bite to it. the toppings were fresh and the brioche bun gave the burger an extra oomph! this was a GIGANTIC burger by the way, so very much worth the price! read more

They had many specialty burgers but I just opted for a plain burger with cheddar on their honey bun and fries. Loved it! No wait, plenty of tables, but it took the hostess a full 3-4 minutes to acknowledge us, as she was taking a carryout order and then painstakingly entering it- and had to call for help to do that. No hello, no we'll be right with you. When she finally got around to it, she grabbed three menus and sat us in a booth. 2, 4, 6, 8 minutes passed as the (presumable) server for the section walked passed our table 11 times while affably waiting on those around us. He looked directly at our neat pile of menus at the end of the table several times while serving others and after 12 minutes and my family peeking out of the booth into the aisle, came over and greeted us: "I take it no one has taken care of you all?" Ya think?? We finally ordered. He delivered the drinks. Delivered the food. (We still had no silverware.) Never once stopped back to refill or see how things were. Tasteless, lackluster food and horrible service. I'm giving the one star because I have to, and at least we didn't get sick. read more

I went with the onion soup for an appetizer- it was very delicious and I loved that it came with a bonus onion on top (in the form of a delicious onion ring- yum)! The Ithaca Ale House is a family fave, so it was the perfect spot to celebrate my mother's birthday after hitting a movie at Cinemapolis (another fabulous local favorite). It was a downright pleasure to walk into the warm, bustling interior of the Ale House on a particularly damp and chilly day, and we were quickly greeted by the host. As a rule, you should pretty much always expect a rather cramped wait at the Ale House before a table is ready. If I were on my own or with friends, I would wait at the large bar and order a drink. Happily, we were told there would be a 30 minute wait that ended up being much closer to a quick 10 minutes. As a rule, I am cautious of flatbreads simply because it's a dish I could rustle up on my own if I was so inclined. However, the Margherita flatbread at the Ale House is so flavorful, with such a perfectly done crust and appropriate portion size that I couldn't resist. Worth it! As good as the flatbread was, my brother's Blackened Chicken Cajun Pasta had me envious. I definitely swiped a bite or two or three. It was creamy and comforting, and had a surprising and welcome spicy kick to cut the richness. Delishhh. My brother also noted that he was happy with the unexpectedly large portion size, as well as the quality of the garlic bread (made with real garlic, as he was sure to mention). The Ale House is a consistently good choice, as long as you leave room at the beginning for a bit of a wait for a table. Just the price you pay for a local favorite. read more
