We appreciated that kind gesture. Every food item on the menu looked delicious. I decided on the Lamb Rack. Loved the texture of the lamb and loved the basmati rice. Lamb was cooked perfectly, and the rice was very fragrant. We were offered a complimentary Persian Ice Cream Sandwich which had an unique flavor. It wouldn't be a flavor for everyone, but to me, it was a perfect ending to a great entree as it was light and mildly sweet. Note that not all food options are halal. Their website is updated with the information and you could also ask the server for clarification. Absolutely adore the interior. The restaurant could get loud but still bearable. Complimentary valet parking is available. Self-parking is also available. Highly recommend to make reservation as the restaurant does get crowded during peak hours.

Since this place was a surprise venue for me, as soon as I saw the name "Rumi," I knew nothing could go wrong with it. I collected so many of Rumi's books, and having them around me makes me feel very peaceful. My family in Houston waited six months to celebrate my birthday due to my health issues, and I feel so blessed to have them around me. This place is always crowded, so please make a reservation even on weekdays. We went on weekdays, and even then we got a reservation for 8:45 pm. But honestly, every effort was worth it. We got there on time. Velet parking is available, but if you want to avoid more waiting, pass the restaurant, and you will see a big parking lot. We walked in and loved the interior, but it was very crowded with happy faces. We were seated in 5 minutes and started enjoying the ambiance and decor. It's a beautiful place to celebrate precious moments with your family and friends. Everyone loved our server, Zack, and his presence and approach. He talks so kindly with each of us. His recommendations were so good that we found every kind of dish for everyone, including vegetarian options. We started with sides, Thanks to Zack.

Every bite you eat has a delicious flavor !…read more The steaks are tender / flavor/ delicious overall. The service is excellent! We had 23 guest yesterday and the entire table was reserved for our guest as it was a B-day. Staff Anna- she brought a nice Ice Cream cake and had excellent b-day music and we all sang and enjoyed the entire experience. Overall this place is 100/100 with everything. It's a little pricy but well worth the quality & taste.

It just doesn't compare to the real BBQ joints in Houston. Somewhat tough in parts. Not much bark. The sausage was the absolute worst I've ever had anywhere in my life. I wouldn't feed it to my dog. It went in the trash. Saffron rice was my ok, pointless really. Mac 'n cheese very plain Jane. The ice in my soda smelled funny. They did have some good employees. Service was great. They get a second star just for that. Don't think I'll be going back. I just have to say that I've been to some really crappy, run-down BBQ restaurants over the years. Old places where the owners are burned out and the staff doesn't care. Corners are cut and they just barely try. I'm sure you can think of some BBQ hole in the walls like that. As bad as they are with their Ekrich sausage, Van Camps pork 'n beans, Walmart meats, and KC Masterpiece bbq sauce - even they are better than Levant BBQ.

Very knowledgeable about the different dishes. Was not a fan of the espresso martini; could've been a bit sweeter. Shammi's Old Fashioned was good. Appetizers: -Paani Puri (needed a few extra puri, got to try 5 fillings, faves were yogurt & tamarind, passionfruit & mango were ok, guava was least fave) - Octopus (DELICIOUS, included purple potato purée) - Nihari Birria Taco (pulled lamb) don't sleep in this!! I almost didn't try it, also delicious! - Tandoor Chicken Kulcha (amazing flavor) Recommend getting extra garlic naan. Entrees: - Dal Musaafer (savory) - Malwani Fish Curry (more zesty than expected, but still enjoyable) - Beef Vindaloo (meat just melts in your mouth) - Butter Chicken Experience (3 types, mainly like one, would try this dish only once) - Khasi Black Cod Dessert: Mishtidoi (cute presentation and SO GOOD) Celebrated an engagement. Super nice of the restaurant to give complimentary champagne! Enjoyed our experience at Musaafer!

OMG, this was such a nice find! My friend recommended ChopNBlok since she had visited both their…read moresit down restaurant and this more casual location. I'm always happy to discover a good restaurant recommendation, and this one definitely did not disappoint. They had someone out front handing out samples of their Jollof rice, curry sauce, and stewed plantains, which were part of their Golden Bowl. I'm not a big plantain person, so I initially asked for mine without them. But, I decided to give them a try anyway, both with and without them. I'm glad I did because the plantains actually added a really nice balance to the dish. The combination of the rice, curry, and plantains was mostly savory with just a hint of sweetness. Hands down, this was my favorite dish. I also have to give a shout out to the woman out front handling the samples. I spoke with her the most, and she did a really good job of selling the restaurant. She was welcoming, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience enjoyable. Sometimes it's the little things, like someone taking the time to introduce you to the food and make recommendations, that can really make a difference. All in all, ChopNBlok was a great find, and I'm glad my friend recommended it. I don't live in the area, but if I ever find myself back there, I would definitely return for the Golden Bowl. It's always nice when you discover a dish that makes you want to come back for more!

Shah's Halal Food - Cheeseburger

Shah's Halal Food

We ain't in Queens anymore…read more For years, I've eaten on Shah's all around the borough, initially out in Ozone Park and Briarwood before finding a real audience in Sunnyside. Now that they've sufficiently blown up around NYC, I was a bit shocked (and excited) to see them finally come to H-Town. What's the verdict? It's good enough to pass muster for NY standards (#1), is open super late, and will likely be my go-to Halal food for the foreseeable future. Since I've only had it in cart form, I'm still a buggin over the fact it's become a franchise. It's similar to my shock of eating Halal Guys at a store for the first time. The digs feel as foreign (prices, large, clean and bright interior) as it does familiar (taste, logo, etc.). Even though I had a laugh seeing the wall photo-mural of a Shah's cart in Times Square, I did appreciate the nod to Ozone Park with the 121st & Liberty street signs. The chicken + lamb combo platter ($12) is and always will be the winner. The lamb had the same kind of seasoning that most Halal spots out here try to replicate but can never get right. The rice was fluffy, and the white sauce was easily the highlight. I can understand why they've decided to bottle it up and sell it as liquid gold. It makes every meal better. Kofta ($12) and chapli ($13) are rarely my favorites, but I knew I had both in platter form. The addition of adding chickpeas and these other salads is not something I'm used to from the carts (#2) but I loved the fact it was drowned in the white sauce with a dash of hot sauce. The latter is supposedly extremely hot, but I didn't find it that spicy. While I have to say the cheeseburger was a bit of a disappointment (overly bready, thin patty), the pakora chips and french fries were fabulous. They were perfectly seasoned, had a nice crisp, and frankly would be an excellent, gut-busting addition to any platter. I don't love the extra charge, but I hope they remain consistent with it. This store location in Westchase along Westheimer is an up and coming part of town. There are numerous Middle Eastern businesses in the adjacent area, along with an abundance of parking spots and a good amount of late night activity. Service was friendly but I do hope they keep their standards up. As time goes on, I'm 100% convinced this will be a destination for the many late night meal seekers and fans of NY nostaligia. __________ (#1) Which automatically supersedes a lot of the ones here in Houston. Just keeping it real. (#2) Is the chickpeas a Houston thing? Genuinely curious.

I got the white sauce on the lamb and the spicy red sauce on the side. Unfortunately after a few bites I put too much hot sauce on, which made it less enjoyable, but that was my fault. I'd order this again, very solid, reminded me of some of the best halal trucks in NYC. 5*.
