    Vegan haggis stack - I think they call it haggis, neeps and tatties elsewhere

    As noted by others, the service was slow and disorganized - partially because the waitresses were summer hires on their first or second day. I tried the vegan haggis tower and it was delicious, and well presented. Draft selection is limited but adequate, and seating is cramped and cozy. They had sports on in the bar area and it wasn't as packed or rowdy as I expected. I'd try other places in portree before going back, but if you're feeling patient, this is a good option.

    This was one of the best food experiences I've had. The mussels were the best mussels I've had that weren't in a spicy sauce. The pie was great tender and savory. Easily broke apart with the fork. The top was flaky and really sopped up the sauce nicely. 3 outa 3 this place made me feel free.

    Post Covid-Almost all of the restaurants in Portree require reservations, which is fine of you plan for it. But after a long day of exploring the Isle of Skye sometimes you want to roll back into the town square and sit in the local pub, and sample the local food. The Isles Inn is just the place to do that. They do not take reservations, and open for dinner at 5. But you can sit in the pub and have a pint before 5, put your name on the "first come first serve" list at the door, and be seated as soon as they open! Try the local food! Skip the burgers while you are on vaca! The fresh catch of the day is always good (we had the mussels-delicious!), haggis tower was yummy, and the Cullen Skink soup so good I was scraping the bottom of the bowl. The menu is pretty big, and there are always several tempting specials of the day written on the board. It is small and cozy, so don't be afraid to squeeze in between your fellow diners and enjoy!

    We stopped in for lunch. The service was pretty terrible and took what felt like an eternity. We sat beside some locals who said the service is always bad, but the food is worth it. Well, they were right. The fish and chips were delicious.

    This place was amazing! Make a reservation because it is packed to the brim even on off hours during week days. These muscles were the best muscles I have ever had. At the end I was dipping the bread in the thick creamy sauce at the bottom. We wanted to order more but luckily we got the last bucket before they sold out. Both the muscles and the fish and chips were fresh and tasty but man oh man the meat pie has my mouth watering just writing the review. We got so into eating we forgot to take pictures. The pastry on-top of the meat pie was so flakey and delicate it melted into the thick flavorful gravy of the meat pie to make one perfect dish. There is a definite pub vibe that makes you feel at home and everyone was super friendly and attentive (even though we rolled in without a reservation not knowing you should make one). Skye is full of the nicest people I have ever met. I really cannot stop thinking about the muscles, seriously, get them!

    This low rating is based solely on managements ability to act in a civilized manner towards their customers. My wife and I stopped in for a pint and a glass of wine and were greeted by the bartender in a friendly manner. An Asian gentleman who was obviously with a tour group was finishing his lunch when he asked the bar tender to leave his food while he stepped out to buy a treat. He came back and was berated in front of other customers by another female (assuming it was the manager) for eating the item in their bar. She then embarrassed the parents of some children that were touching an arcade machine. Not sure what kind of bug went up her ass, but her behavior unacceptable and her ability to communicate with people was laking. This was not a demonstration of true Scottish hospitality and pub etiquette. #unfriendlypub #islesinnpub #portreepubs

    Small pub and restaurant. The food was decent but nothing to write home about, and the beer (local) was the European way- room temp.

The chef is a young man and I saw him coming out of the the busy kitchen a couple times to take a break. He shook my hand when he asked what Whisky I was drinking and I told him a Gelnfidditch 18. The two problems with the restaurant were they had the heat turned on very high, it was uncomfortably hot and I would honestly rather have been cold. The other problem was they were very short staffed so the meal started out great but our server was invisible toward the end and we sat around for 20 minutes trying to see him so we could leave. Haggis + Paneer Pakora: Great Haggis fusion dish, felt traditional and yet paid homage to some of the new cultures that make up the UK. Slow Braised Lamb Shank: Rosemary Infused Mashed Potato and Roasted Root Vegetable. Very tender and delicious, our whole family shared this even though it started off as just my wifes dinner. Sole Veronique: Potatoes, spinach, and a cream sauce. Tasted OK but I thought the sauce was too heavy for the light fish it was on. If you go across the street from the restaurant and look down you can see the iconic row of different colored houses that a lot of people were taking pictures of.

Six items were on the menu: a soup of the day (rice and chicken) with bread, a ham and cheese sandwich, a chicken/bacon/sweetcorn sandwich (check the TripAdviser reviews if you want to hear more about that one), a vegan cheese and pickle sandwich, a pulled pork wrap, and a falafel/mango chutney wrap. Five pages of the six-page menu were drinks, coffee, and alcohol. This is not a food place. It looks like one. Based on old reviews and photos, maybe it used to be one. I did come in the afternoon, so maybe it's better for breakfast. Or maybe not. For the amount and quality of sandwich I got for 5 quid, I should have just gotten a meal deal at the co-op. Genuinely, a meal deal sandwich would have been better quality. My ham and cheese did have both ingredients, but the cheese was shredded and the ham was very thin-sliced and overwhelmed by the cheese. My guess is that it's made to be toasted, hence the shredded cheese, and that was an option for 20 pence-- but why on God's green Earth would you serve a cold sandwich with shredded cheese? The bread was bland and basic-- fine if you're making yourself something at home, but not something worth paying for at all. (Again, it was like a meal deal sandwich. But worse. I would never disrespect a meal deal sandwich like this.) Based on the service (or lack thereof) we received from the very beginning, I should have listened to my intuition and gotten up to find somewhere better. The wait staff are called that, I assume, because they will wait ten minutes for you to ask them if they can take your order, only to be repeatedly rude to you when you politely ask for the bare minimum amount of service. Full disclosure: I have worked in food service before. I sympathize with anyone who has to deal with customers. But when we weren't served, and went up to ask if our order could be taken, we were snapped at and told to go back to our table. No "apologies, someone will be there shortly". Not even a "sorry for the wait, we're very busy right now". Just "go back to your table". So we did. Which was a huge mistake. I've lived in Scotland for more than a year and I don't know if I've ever had a meal that depressing since living here. And I've made Pasta in Sauce at 3am with just water because I ran out of milk. I won't be too hard on our table's waiter because he was very young and inexperienced, and I expect he's received minimal, if any, training on how to wait tables. I honestly felt bad for him. He looked as though he would rather be anywhere else. In that way I felt a real connection to the wait staff; in fact, it was the only time I actually felt truly seen by them. I, too, would rather have been anywhere else. But that's not necessarily the vibe you want to be getting when you walk into a place. This place would be better off selling ready-made, takeaway sandwiches rather than masquerading as a restaurant and disappointing us at every turn. Seriously. Not to quote other media in a literal Yelp review, but my expectations were low and I was still let down. The only saving grace of this place was that it was clean and had wifi that was strong enough for me to send this picture of my sandwich to my friends and go "????????". Also there were two very cute dogs outside, although I don't believe they were hired by the restaurant. If you're desperate for food and don't really mind what you're spending money on, then this place is fine. Like I said, at least it's clean and has decent wifi. But I would not waste my time here twice.

    The two of us were seated on a first come first served policy at a 6-top table (the only table…read moreavailable) with the understanding that they might need to seat another couple at the far end. Fine. No problem. We settled in and ordered. Then a girl that seemed to have an inflated sense of self importance came over and insisted that we pack up and move to a newly opened 2-top. I found it very unsettling. If a party of 6 were to come looking for a table they surely would have understood, due to their party size, that they would need to wait 10-15 minutes. Sure enough, 2 different 6-tops opened within 10 minutes after we moved to our new seat. There was no need to treat us so rudely.

The hotel staff was lovely and helpful. We were smart enough to have made a dinner reservation before our arrival for our one night stay. Nice pubby dark wood décor and seating spread over a couple of rooms. Many tables occupied on our visit. Dinner menu Scottish leaning as to be expected. It was clear from the outset that they were low on staff with our (very young) server and water coming a good bit after seating. My partner was not real hungry this evening so chose to do a bowl of the soup the day-potato & leek. This came with a wonderful, fresh roll. The roll was pronounced fantastic. We have enjoyed many an excellent bread item in Scotland and this was another example here. They know what they're doing. The soup was very tasty but after a few spoonfulls, it became "boring". My choice was a Filet of Scottish Sea Trout (yes it is different from Salmon, Google it). Served with roasted new potatoes, braised leeks, herb crusted baby carrots, and smoked mussel butter sauce. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, as were the leeks. The carrots were interesting with the herb "crust", and the mussel sauce added an umami depth to the fish. Interestingly, the sauce included a few nicely cooked, out of the shell, mussels. A succulent addition. Loved every bite. For dessert, we chose a Cinnamon Apple Tart with Caramel Whipped Cream and Vanilla Ice Cream. All of this came together for a scrumptious finale to our meal. Especially the whipped cream. Perfect portion size also. Different planning could have put us here for a longer period of time and it would have been wonderful. If you are traveling in this area, try to either stay or eat here. You won't regret it. Highly recommended.
