    Sunday Roast
    Abby A.

While in Scotland, a traditional Sunday Roast is one treat to splurge for. The Uig Hotel on Skye has a traditional Sunday Roast that is available in two or three courses for a very reasonable price. The Uig is open for Lunch between 12 and 2.45pm. On Sundays, they offer a traditional Sunday lunch with a set menu of 3 starters, roast dinner, a fish dish and a vegetarian option, followed by a choice of 3 desserts for £25. Booking for this is essential. The roast was exceptional! It came with Scottish grass fed beef, roast potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding, and plenty of veggies. It was so savory and filling that we were too full to order dessert. We walked off our dinner by visiting the Fairy Glen which is only a mile up the hill from the Uig. A great way to have a traditional Sunday meal while on vacation.

This hotel is on the main road just beore you turn off for fairy glen. Its a good quick stop for lunch and bathrooms (both of which are good!) Its a family run business and they are all super invested in the place and running it well. They gave us info, tips and maps to help us on our way. We had stopped off for cheese and wine and they had the best cheese platter of scottish cheeses that I had. I also really enjoyed the wine and G got the scotch since she wasnt driving. They offered us 9 cheeses and I liked their take on the crowdie. We sat in a morning room type of space and they have great views, overlooking lots of green and had our wine while the sun sets. If I'm back in the area, I would probably stay in the hotel. Lots of parking and really great service!

The Uig Hotel is located on the Isle of Skye (north of Portree) and is ideally located for anyone looking to do a scenic drive and hike on the north part of the Isle, which is full of winding one lane roads. The hotel itself is modest with an exceptionally pleasant staff who really aim to please. The room was modest but fully functional. The real surprise was the restaurant which served really good fare for both dinner and breakfast...and at a great price point (breakfast was included in the room price). Without question, I would return to the Uig Hotel. It was a really pleasant stay with a staff who make you want to return.

The best hotel to immerse yourself during your trip through Skye. A warm, clean and comfortable hotel in the heart of the island. Eat some traditional food next to a warm hearth, good breakfast combining buffet and hot meals. Dog friendly. Bad thing: no WIFI inside rooms, only in reception, restaurant and dining room. You can live with that for sure. "Bad" thing: the receptionist's dog ate our sandwiches xDDDDD

Had the seafood chowder, which was so delicious. I don't know if it was smoked haddock but there was an amazing favor in it.

The food was so so. The veggies were good but the chicken was so dry. The staff were very nice, but we couldn't get our check!

I'm giving this a four star rating, but it's very much a back-and-forth between different concerns…read more First, it's cool that there's a local brewery on Skye and that's probably a full star bump. The beers themselves are just so-so although some of that is just because the local styles aren't exactly my jam. British pub ale (which is what most of their beers wind up being close to) is just not my jam. That said, they have a few better and more complex beers. The Cuillin Beast (scotch ale) and Black (stout, but not too heavy and closer to a less creamy Guinness) are both pretty decent. Nothing mind-blowing though. If you're a craft beer person, this is a "fun because it's local" more than "fun because they're really good" stop. There's a few bottles of stuff you can find in the shop (including a smoked beer, an ESB, and a lighter ale) that aren't available in the restaurants around Skye, but mostly it's the same beers which you can (impressively) find for sale in almost all the restaurants on Skye. The brewery shop itself is disappointing. It's basically a bottle shop with a bunch of merchandise near the pier in Uig. There's a small coffee shop, but you can't do tastings, there's no food. There's attempt to make a space to hang out and enjoy anything near the pier. Even a few picnic tables with a view of the harbor would be really nice. This all rounds out to a four star for me, but it really depends what you're looking for.

Nice little shop with nice staff, but there isn't a tasting room to try before you buy(I'm not sure…read morewhat the UK's laws are regarding this.). So there is some risk on buying something you might not like, but all the bottles were reasonably price anyway. I paid a reasonable £3.30 for a 500ml bottle of tasty ale.

Their kitchen was just about closed, and a lot of food was already sold out completely. They managed to prepare some sandwiches for us, which was really kind as we were starving and everything else was closed. It was the perfect end to a rainy and chilly drive in the dark evening. We returned the following day for a proper dinner. This time we had a delicious meal, with good ale, and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Everything was delicious. I think the atmosphere of this warm inn amidst the wild and roaring space deserves some merit as well. The establishment itself has this cozy, communal, and quite bustling atmosphere, which everyone seems to gravitate to in such a mystical and sleepy place. Outside, there's this beautiful, ancient, raw nature, that's so dormant and old, that feels so past civilization and humans, and then you enter this place and reacquaint yourself with people and interaction once again, in a communal, close-knit space. I loved it. I'd really recommend for anyone to just visit the area, walk around, feel its old, natural, and magnificent power, and then stop for a delicious and hearty meal here after. You definitely won't regret it. Try to get there not too late, however, or you might end up with no meal like we almost did!
