The Uig Hotel was a very welcome site after a long day on the road. Perfectly situated with beautiful view of Uig Bay. Our room was wonderful and sleep was top quality. The hotel staff was lovely and helpful. We were smart enough to have made a dinner reservation before our arrival for our one night stay. Nice pubby dark wood décor and seating spread over a couple of rooms. Many tables occupied on our visit. Dinner menu Scottish leaning as to be expected. It was clear from the outset that they were low on staff with our (very young) server and water coming a good bit after seating. My partner was not real hungry this evening so chose to do a bowl of the soup the day-potato & leek. This came with a wonderful, fresh roll. The roll was pronounced fantastic. We have enjoyed many an excellent bread item in Scotland and this was another example here. They know what they're doing. The soup was very tasty but after a few spoonfulls, it became "boring". My choice was a Filet of Scottish Sea Trout (yes it is different from Salmon, Google it). Served with roasted new potatoes, braised leeks, herb crusted baby carrots, and smoked mussel butter sauce. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, as were the leeks. The carrots were interesting with the herb "crust", and the mussel sauce added an umami depth to the fish. Interestingly, the sauce included a few nicely cooked, out of the shell, mussels. A succulent addition. Loved every bite. For dessert, we chose a Cinnamon Apple Tart with Caramel Whipped Cream and Vanilla Ice Cream. All of this came together for a scrumptious finale to our meal. Especially the whipped cream. Perfect portion size also. Different planning could have put us here for a longer period of time and it would have been wonderful. If you are traveling in this area, try to either stay or eat here. While in Scotland, a traditional Sunday Roast is one treat to splurge for. The Uig Hotel on Skye has a traditional Sunday Roast that is available in two or three courses for a very reasonable price. The Uig is open for Lunch between 12 and 2.45pm. On Sundays, they offer a traditional Sunday lunch with a set menu of 3 starters, roast dinner, a fish dish and a vegetarian option, followed by a choice of 3 desserts for £25. Booking for this is essential. The roast was exceptional! It came with Scottish grass fed beef, roast potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding, and plenty of veggies. It was so savory and filling that we were too full to order dessert. We walked off our dinner by visiting the Fairy Glen which is only a mile up the hill from the Uig. This hotel is on the main road just beore you turn off for fairy glen. Its a good quick stop for lunch and bathrooms (both of which are good!) Its a family run business and they are all super invested in the place and running it well. They gave us info, tips and maps to help us on our way. We had stopped off for cheese and wine and they had the best cheese platter of scottish cheeses that I had. I also really enjoyed the wine and G got the scotch since she wasnt driving. They offered us 9 cheeses and I liked their take on the crowdie. We sat in a morning room type of space and they have great views, overlooking lots of green and had our wine while the sun sets. If I'm back in the area, I would probably stay in the hotel. Lots of parking and really great service! read more

The A87 is only about 100 miles long, and it traverses some quintessentially beautiful Scottish Highlands scenery and then about 40 or 50 miles of the largley surreal Isle of Skye. We got to enjoy the whole thing, although over two different days, and it qualifies as a world-class drive, in my book. The A87's terminus is at Uig, just a mile or two beyond the Uig Hotel, which ought to provide a fitting place for a meal to end this drive from its perch across from the ferry pier at Uig and its wonderful views across the (Lower?) Minch. (At actual end of the A87 is the Isle of Skye Brewing Company, whose excellent products we were able to sample both at the Uig Hotel and once or twice elsewhere on Skye.) (Yeah, this is another review for the restaurant, not the hotel itself, but I'll say this after having been in the area for a few days: The hotel's location would be excellent as a base for exploring the Trotternish Peninsula.) For us, it was actually only about five miles from our AirBnB at Kingsburgh on Loch Snizort south of Uig, so there was convenience, too. The dining room is kinda generically formal, and when we walked in, we thought we might be underdressed in our jeans (otherwise, we were "dressy casual"): A couple of gents were in jackets and collared shirts. But then some goof seated at the next table was wearing a Star Wars t-shirt and sneakers, so all was good. Unfortunately, we weren't seated by the windows. During a nine-day trip that featured almost uniformly good--and often excellent--food, our meal at the Uig Hotel sort of the fell in the middle ground of all of that fare. Baked hake special was executed nicely, but it might have been a bit plain. The wife ordered a venison casserole, which in these parts evidently means stewed venison. It was plentiful and tender, and maybe too much of a good thing, at least for her. I was happy to help with it. A mussels app--we had several of those on this trip--was perfectly fine. The Uig Hotel is located on the Isle of Skye (north of Portree) and is ideally located for anyone looking to do a scenic drive and hike on the north part of the Isle, which is full of winding one lane roads. The hotel itself is modest with an exceptionally pleasant staff who really aim to please. The room was modest but fully functional. The real surprise was the restaurant which served really good fare for both dinner and breakfast...and at a great price point (breakfast was included in the room price). We stayed at hotel but this is for restaurant 2 nights Dinner. Both nights soup was excellent choice and a refreshing departure from pub food. First night I had the butternut cranberry walnut salad and second had the Trout. Both were excellent but the portions are large if you're also wanting additional courses so consider splitting. Also had the Apple Tart which was very good. My wife had the gnocchi which was different than American flavors but she enjoyed it. Service was friendly ... maybe a bit sluggish ... but they were also quite busy. If you're not already staying at the hotel the view and location is amazing and the restaurant featured local art. read more

This is for their restaurant. We stopped there for lunch. They had a wonderful soup and sandwich. I had the vegetable and lentil soup, and it was lovely. The ham sandwich I had was a keeper. It had thick hearty bread with think slices of very tasty ham. I also had the Toffee Sticky Pudding. This was ok but I remember a sensational Toffee Sticky Pudding at another place which I was comparing it too, so that's why it's only ok. The kids were able to play games, which the hotel provided so the children stayed entertained. This was a lovely place for a light lunch and the prices were modest. read more

Stopped by here on our vacation to Isle of Skye on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. We ate in the restaurant instead of the bar and had a lovely meal. I had the 3 course lunch: crab and prawn salad, cos with asparagus sauce, and pudding for dessert. My aunt had the most delicious starter which was ham, mushrooms, and garlic sauce-a must try! I have to say we really lucked out with the Uig Hotel. We did not have a reservation (which is preferred) but the lovely staff seated us within 15 minutes. We had beautiful local gins and a nice meal. It's cozy and warm inside. In the bar, we met some friendly locals and other tourists. The evening was filled with laughter, live music and singing. We were staying next door at the Cowshed Boutique Bunkhouse and this was a quick walk down the hill from our lodging. read more
