Set in the middle of Portree, Scorrybreac is absolutely a restaurant to reserve months ahead of when you intend to visit Skye. The service was outstanding, our servers were everything that we could have hoped for. They explained everything and answered questions about specific items of each course. This is not a Michelin star restaurant and I asked why it is not. The presentation, the creativity and the ambiance are all certainly Michelin adjacent. The server said that they want to be more relaxed and not work for that 'star'. I would certainly not have known the difference. The 8 courses are listed in the menu. It is a fixed menu and fixed price. The choices are to request a wine pairing and coffee/tea at the end. We chose the red wife from Slovakia that was dry and quite nice. It's not possible to describe each of the courses. My favorites were Hebridean haggis-haggis with a turnip espuma(or foam) and buckwheat. The combination of flavors and textures was amazing. The other two dishes I lived were the halibut in a chicken reduction and small veges. It was so fresh and flaky and moist. The Seabuckthorn curd was incredible. That plant does not grow in N.A. the berry was pureed and explained by yogurt ice cream. There 2 small tufts of white chocolate infused work pine oil. I've never tasted something like that dessert. There is little wonder why this small dining space is so incredibly popular. Local mussels, fresh caught sole and isle greens for salad are just a few highlights that ensure the presence of the place here. A focus on using ingredients within a small radius and delectable preparations make this a hidden gem in the town of Portree. The team who works here is absolutely incredible. When talking about working hard, this is the definition of it. Hopefully some of the staffing challenges they currently face get addressed to provide more consistent service for guests and a less hectic experience for the crew. So, book early, get the trout porridge, the delectable focaccia, some Pommes Anna and fill in the rest with freshest seafood. Happiness will undoubtedly persist from there. read more

What an amazingly exceptional restaurant located in remote Scotland! I've been to my fair share of Michelin listed restaurants and this rises very high on that list. From the exceptionally perfect service to the beautiful location to the world class tasting menu - it hits it out of the park. These dishes don't just look good, they taste amazing as well and each bite makes you want to try more. They are also VERY accommodating to requests - it's a seafood heavy menu but my dining partner doesn't eat Seafood and they were willing to swap things around with notice. Outstanding meal! Not just one of the best meals we had in Scotland, but one of the best meals we have enjoyed in any location. The seven course tasting menu was delicious...each course was beautiful, delightful, creative and spectacular. Courses included: Smoked trout roe, cream and crackers Potato, Drumfearn mussels, stout + Amazing locally made bread/butter Pacific Oyster, fennel, mull cheddar (our least favorite) Halibut, hot smoked cauliflower, roasted years Dunvegan Venison, aubergine, chanterelles Blue muder, pain d epices, raisin (utterly spectacular)! Cannage yogurt, bay leaf, strawberry Price was 95 pounds and worth it...incredible meal. We also did the wine pairing which was delightful. If you do an internet search for "best restaurants in Portree" or even "best restaurants in/on Skye," tiny Scorrybreac is going to rise to the top, or least near the top, of just about every list that you pull up. It's even in the Michelin guide. Those rankings are justified: Scorrybreac gives you a gourmet dining experience at a relatively economical price. There are only eight or so tables here, which means that the menu stays small each night: an everchanging three-course prix fixe with appetizer, entree, and dessert. All the plates were beautifully composed and complex, and for the most part wonderfully executed. I wish I'd written down my menu, because I can't remember everything about it, especially the accompaniments and sauces. Damn. Started with a squab app, which was the only time when the execution was slightly off; the bird was just a hair overcooked and slightly tough. Pretty sure we both had lamb loin, which was succulent and flavorful, pretty much the best single dish we had on our nine-day trip. We're not big dessert people, but we would be if all kitchens killed it like this one did with dessert. Pretty sure it involved raspberry sorbet and yogurt, it that it masterfully balanced the sweet and salty and various textures. 48 pounds for this wonderful meal is reasonable, I think. (It is slightly dismaying, though, to look at menus from just a few years ago and see them clocking in a 28 and 32 pounds.) The surroundings aren't too noteworthy: It's clean and sharp-looking, mind you, but not terribly distinctive, and the tables seem a bit jammed together. It's situated on Portree's waterfront across from the actual Scorrybreac homestead; too bad that only one table (and not ours on this evening) gets to enjoy this lovely view. We're lucky enough that we've enjoyed our fair share of Michelin Guide restaurants, and Scorrybreac is on the 2019 list so we decided to give it a go while staying in Portree. The dinner started off a little disappointing, as we had to wait around 20-25 minutes to get seated for a table of 2 with a reservation. It wasn't a huge problem, but, frankly, I expect to be seated much more quickly. You can argue that a small 7-8 table restaurant may have customers linger or whatever but if you're of the highest quality then those are mistakes I don't really expect to be made. We both ordered the the same course, and I thought that the hake and crab dish (the menu changes which is great) was delicious. I don't eat mammal or bird meat but I would expect that their lamb dishes to be excellent. It would be great to try a few of their dishes in the same night. We also enjoyed the chocolate cake with honeycomb and cherry ice cream, though I don't think the cake itself is anything particularly special, the honeycomb and cherry ice cream more than made up for the cake. Overall this is a great restaurant that I'd recommend if you're in Portree. Book far in advance, and treat yourself for some fabulously fresh fish and local fair! read more

A small location that serves up delicious meals. There is a small menu to choose from: 3 starters/menus and desserts. The food is great and packed full of flavour. We had the venison starter which was delicious. Moving onto the lamb and cod & scallops which did not disappoint. The dessert ended it off very nicely. The one thing that did disappoint a bit was the service. This restaurant is on the Michelin guide for 2019 and is fine dining but they didn't know who ordered what, when the food arrived at the table. A little slow when we wanted to order dessert and lacked the cherry on the top for a restaurant on the Michelin guide. Great food and you should definitely check it out for yourself. Made a reservation for tonight. Got there and lights were out doors were locked. When I made my reservation I left my name and telephone number and they didn't bother to call. Couldn't find a table anywhere in Portree. All places booked/full. We found somewhere after 1 hour searching/walking which was very mediocre but a welcome sight for hungry bellies and sore legs. Scorrybreac left us stranded on a Saturday night. Also on a side note don't expect to eat anything in this town in a decent restaurant without a reservation. There is nothing here and the few places that there are often do not take walk-ins, or are randomly closed when you have a reservation in the off season like Scorrybreac. read more

I should have written this review long ago. I heard about this restaurant from a lovely local who I met online. She steered us here and it was truly the most amazing dining experience we have ever had. We were a party of 6 adults, 3 parents and 3 young adults. The ambiance was amazing, you were basically in someone's home in the living area, turned into a delightful venue. A wonderful selection including filet, duck, and assorted accompaniments. After dinner the chef brought out a batch of tablet. We had never tried it but it was absolutely perfect, melting your mouth, Scottish sweet treat. If I ever get over to Scotland again I will make a bee line for Scorrybreac. read more

Exceptional. Tiny 9 table family run restaurant with a deserved reputation for being the best in Portree with excellent service to boot. Seared salmon, cucumber & grapefruit starter was delicately cooked and came together well. Scallop mousse was similarly impressive. Can't comment on the oysters I didn't try. The hake main was perfectly cooked and well complimented with a tasty ratatouille. The duck was excellent, though the dish made a touch heavy by a lot of crushed potatoes, and it seems potatoes aren't Skye's strongest suit. The raspberry mille feuille desert was beautiful, and tasted as good as it looked. £100 for 3 starters, 3 mains and a desert. This place was horrible. At the entrance is this small little room with no directions on how to get in and we had to call the restaurant to get inside. They sat us at a small awkward table in the corner with very little personal space. The bread they served us was burnt I asked them about it they did nothing. The scallop mouse was more like a hard jelly. The meringue dessert was overcooked and chewy. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

This was one of the most enjoyable meals I've had in recent memory. The caramelized butter (!) was delicious, and the service was impeccable. My small comment is that my pork was fairly overcooked and dry, which could be a dealbreaker other places, but this place was so good otherwise that I'd still give it 5 stars. We had the best dinner of our vacation at Scorrybreac. The intimate dining room and service were excellent. For 39 pounds each, we enjoyed a lovely 3 course dinner, with many extra tastes such as popcorn, a shot of soup, fresh bread and caramelized butter, and some chocolates with the check. There are only a few tables, so you must book in advance. The dining room was like of a United Nations of tourists, and everyone was having a great evening. Definitely worth the splurge! read more
