The Bottom Line 2 stars: Islands gets a downgrade from me for its consistently bad service :( It is a nice place to relax and have a tasty burger and a drink, but I hope they seriously work on improving their table service "a lot". Despite this, I do visit them often for the convenience and the comfortable vibe, hopelessly expecting better service. Service 1 star: Hit and miss depending on the server you get, ranging from average to bad. Servers tend to start enthusiastically and taper off as the evening progresses. They also randomly disappear for extended periods of time. It is hard to get their attention for refills on drinks or to add to your order. Sometimes you will not see your server after talking your order (other staff usually bring the food and ask if you want ketchup or ranch) until towards the end of the meal, when it's time for the ceremonial "would there be anything else?" and the presentation of your check. They also stand over your head and watch you as you pay (and tip) on the remote terminal, which I find annoying :D Location 4 stars: On the Western end of Porter Ranch Town Center, off of Rinaldi and Porter Ranch Drive. Plenty of free self-parking available. Venue 3 stars: Nice and friendly setting with an island vibe. Plenty of indoor and some outdoor seating. They do not take reservations, so be prepared to wait 30 minutes to an hour during busy times. Full bar with high tables (in case you don't want to wait for a dining table). Food 3 stars: Nice assortment of soups, salads, burgers and sandwiches. Some decent desserts. Reasonably priced. Drinks 3.5 stars: Full bar, beer, wine and soft drinks. Islands is the kind of place I always order the same thing. It's like that staple ya just can't go wrong with. This time, I went with something different, the China Coast salad. Overall, it was good. As a Chinese Chicken Salad goes, if looked and tasted healthy with quality ingredients. It was pretty light as far as flavor goes. I pretty much attribute that to the dressing. Islands and fries are pretty much synonymous. Weather they accompany your main dish or as an add on, I think it's pretty much a must. Everyone at our table enjoyed the fries. They are set portion now-a-days, but years ago, they offered unlimited fries which was dangerous. The portion served is perfect, if not a bit much. For a lunch time visit, I was definitely impressed. Happy Hour is great! I like most of the food here also. The service is fast and accommodating. I've never had an issue. Might be really noisy during a game night but otherwise you can carry on a decent conversation. Lots of TVs. Drinks are tasty and food is hot and flavorful. I haven't been to an Islands in years because all the ones that were by me closed a long time ago...I even just recently deleted the app due to not visiting in years. I used to go all the time, so I was happy when coming back from an event with a friend, she mentioned there was an Islands along the way if that sounded good. Everyone at this location was welcoming and we were greeted and seated right away. We started off with the tempura green beans, which was a perfect appetizer. I ordered an old favorite, the Hula burger, which was great. As has been the case with all of the locations that I have visited in the past, there are plenty of TVs to watch sports, and it is a casual vibe inside. If there was a location closer than 10 miles from me, I would definitely visit on a regular basis. read more

I hadn't been to Islands in years-I mean years! This past Saturday I met a galpal for lunch. We were there for three hours and the entire time, it was packed with lines waiting out the door on a super windy day! Honestly since the pandemic and the minimum wage increase I've only seen one other restaurant this busy. Food was excellent. I had their tortilla soup (did you know they give you refills?!) and the Kanaapali Kobb Salad. And an ice cream sundae for dessert! Madison was our server. She was engaging, personable, fun and her attention spot on. She appeared when we needed something, left us alone when we were satisfied and kept us in the loop every step of the way. I always make a trip to the bathroom to determine its cleanliness. Acceptable. If you've never been there, try Islands. If you haven't been, try it again! This place is hoppin'. First time at Islands for Fourth of July day and it was awesome. We got to eat some very yummy pork tacos. Perfectly well balance portions however I didn't like that the tortilla was pretty stale or like very tough to eat like it felt like it wasn't cooked through all the way(I know tacos) Their nachos from their appetizer were really good if you drop them off with their spicy chicken, it was delicious and quite frankly very filling. Their chicken strips were also pretty good. Everything came out so fast piping hot so just be careful on that but other than that Islands was great. The service was amazing. The establishment was well taken care of very clean. It was national Hamburger Day and Islands had a special. The wave for $10 with fries. A good deal since the usual price is almost double. It is their basic burger, which is good and different to the competition. We ordered two for pick up. I stressed that they need to give us a fresh batch of fries, since I've been jipped almost every time getting old, cold, stale fries. The voice on the other side replied by saying it would not be a problem. We ordered one burger medium, the other medium well. They said it would be ready in 15 minutes. When, I got there and called them for curbside delivery, they didn't sound happy at all. Then they kept quoting the regular price for the order. Someone else came on the line, same story. I had to reiterate, that they had a deal. Again clueless. Finally they came out with the order and the correct price. In 5 minutes we were eating. They had switched the labels on the burgers. That was not what annoyed me. It was the fries (what again?) They were clearly from an old batch. After last night's visit, though, it's clear the quality has dropped significantly while the prices have only gone up. We ordered a few burgers, chicken nachos, and a kids' meal. Unfortunately, the burgers were below average. I distinctly remember the patties being much thicker and more flavorful in the past, but the ones we received were thin, bland, and seemed hastily assembled. The nachos were overpriced and again lacked flavor and freshness. I also didn't appreciate that they charge $3 for extra chicken but barely give you any as you can see in the picture. The kids' meal had the same issues. Overall, I wouldn't recommend ordering food from here again since you're not getting your money's worth. That said, the service was fantastic. Just had lunch at Islands today, 4th of July. Our hostess was very hospitable and pleasant. She seated us in a very comfortable location and kindly accommodated our dog stroller. We were seated at Andres's table. He was extremely professional and responsive. His service was impeccable. He took his job seriously, despite him working on a holiday. So the burger sliders were really tasty! Bread and patties were a tad over done but I still really enjoyed it as an appetizer We also ordered the cheddar cheese fries and these were great! Not over done at all, plenty of cheese, seasoned, just so good! And the ranch was amazing as usual! We also got the classic fish tacos. They were fried very well and cooked well but honestly tasted like nothing. Really lacking on the flavor. Wouldn't get this again. Ended with a chocolate lava which was yummy! I went tonight with two friends. Easy place to go. I will say that the hostess and waitress were very sweet. We all ordered a different burger, and instead of the fries we all felt like a salad. When we ordered one of us asked that the salads come first because we were super hungry. They brought them out at the same time with our food.
