I came in today to enjoy a cigar while waiting for my little guy who was at the vet. I hadn't been here for a while because it's close to neither my home nor work. I walked in and the only employee (whom I walked right by) ignored me until I was in the humidor. He proceeded to talk to and pamper the only other person in the tiny lounge. I thought maybe the other guy was the owner, but evidently he was just a special customer, because he took a bunch of business calls and acted like he was the only person present. I did enjoy an Aging Room F55M! But I'll never return to Islands! Bo's Cigar Lounge, which also serves beer, wine, etc., and has a lounge that is much more accommodating and grand, with a many times greater selection of cigars, is awesome! More than all of that, Bo is usually out greeting customers and enjoying a cigar with them, actually acting like he is happy to have you there. My all time favorite cigar lounge, and I'm a member of a cigar lounge back home. I'm always looking for a cigar lounge near my hotels when I travel. It's a great place to relax, meet locals and get dining recommendations. Islands is perfectly nestled neatly in a small strip on the corner of Central and Brea Blvd, right on my route to and from hotel/work. Could it be any better? Well, yes, yes it could. And it is. Chad is the friendliest, most welcoming proprietor I've had the pleasure of meeting anywhere in Brea. His selections are out of this world and his knowledge follows suit. He has several items I don't normally see back home which make for a delightful tasting experience. The regular crowd here is also great. As the FNG a few weeks ago I was treated to some shared snacks and even given 'the good seat' for watching the movie that was on. First time cigar smoker here and I'm glad that I stopped by Isands to get my first couple cigars. Man cave. An excellent man cave is what came to mind as I walked in the entrance. Flat screen with the game on, big comfy seats/sofas with guys chiefing cigars in 'em. Islands lounge also has more space in the back but I walked straight to the humidor. As I walked in, I was taken back by the vast selection. Having never smoked a cigar and going by reviews on cigar.com I was honestly lost and a lil intimidated lol. It's funny to think on that now but that all went away as soon as Chad went in to assist me. Chad helped me out tremendously. His knowledge and guidance put me at ease. I felt that he was being genuine and wasn't just trying to sell me an expensive cigar or a cigar that wasn't selling. He asked questions about the coffee and alcohol I like to drink, how long was I trying to smoke, explained the different sizes and kinds of wrappers. Bottom line is that he asked questions AND listened to my answers to find me the perfect selections. I ended up with a Montecristo Epic Toro and a Hoyo La Amistad Black Rothschild/Robusto. Not only did Chad help me pick them out but he also gave me a Maduro house blend for free for my first visit and first time smoking a cigar!! So after leaving Islands, I headed to a family BBQ. I decided to go with the Hoyo and man.. I fuckin loved it lol. It tasted like dark chocolate/mocha with a lil bit of a nice spiciness towards the end. It was exactly how Chad described it, even the amount of time it took to smoke was on point. I was sippin on some Remy Martin, having great conversations with family and enjoying my first cigar. It's a labor day miracle, Charlie Brown lol. I wanna give a huge thank you to Chad, for taking the time to get me the right cigars for me, explaining things and for the maduro! What an amazing evening we had enjoying Islands Cigar Lounge! I was meeting some business partners who are passionate about cigars. After reviewing the Yelp reviews I suggested we converge at Islands Cigar. Wow, did I look like a rockstar. Arriving early I was immediately greeted by the proud, passionate owner Chad. Since it was Thursday the lounge was abuzz with regulars excited for opening night of NFL football. Chad offered us the back room which was perfect. By the time my associates arrived I felt like Chad was a life long friend. My associates assumed I was a regular! Getting settled the challenge arrived........which Cigar? One of our group is a passionate cigar fan and knows all the brands. He was in awe of the detailed overview of all our options in the humidor. With Chad's guidance we made a selection and were delighted. An amazing experience with the confidence that we will be back for our next meeting. We have now designated the back room as our "living room" for future business meetings. Thank you Chad!! We will be back again soon. read more

My very first time here. I got to say, I am a beginner and barely know how to smoke a cigar. From the outside, it looks like a little mom and pop cigarette/cigar shop. Once you go in, their friendly staff member immediately greeted me. I took a quick look at the surroundings and it was very comfortable, seems like a few guys, seems like regulars, were relaxing on their comfortable couches and enjoying a cigar, flat screen TV is on. Very cool. I then proceeded to ask him about the different types they have in the humidor and he immediately chose a few for me, opened them up for inspection, smell and see if I had interest in them. Even for beginners, they have selections for under $10.00 and I saw a few in the hundred(s) range. After I walked around for a while, checked out a lot of their cigars, I picked out a couple and he then suggested me to grab some drinks at the market, or even my favorite drinks and come back and enjoy the drinks while smoking the cigar! BYOB!! I was also informed that there is also a back side of the lounge, which also had 5 comfortable couches and it was more dimmed back there. I had the honor to meet a few more regulars back there and even the owner, who was also enjoying one for the afternoon with his lady on his lap. I paid for my cigars, he cut it up for me, handed me a lighter, and proceeded to the back lounge and had a blast! On my way out, the staff member even gave me a freebie cigar as a first time customer and asked me to try it and hopefully to come back next time! I've been the fleeting customer only visiting once in a while to buy cigars for special occasions so I wouldn't say I'm a big time customer. Yet every visit, I'm warmly received by his enthusiasm and knowledge of cigars. I think he knows I mean business when I step in. I'm usually courteous and direct when I ask him for recommendations. He reads me accordingly, listens to my spiel, and thinks for a moment. Like the snap of the fingers, he realizes that he has just the cigar for me. He offers 1 suggestion, but also offers a few other options when I get curious about what else is displayed in his collection. Perfect. That makes it easy for me to decide and I trust his judgment. Sure enough, any recommended cigars I buy from him are enjoyed by my intended recipients, including myself and friends sometimes. There's not many instances where you meet a business owner who's genuine and looking for your best smoking interests. It's an energy you can feel when you interact with people and Chad's been consistent every time. This lounge is the real deal and has a wide collection of cigars in its walk-in humidor and other corners of the shop where you'll find what you're looking for. If not, Chad will have a recommendation for you as your cigar sommelier. You can also bring your own booze (preferably whiskey because c'mon cigars...and whiskey) and hang out smoking your newly bought cigar while sipping on your favorite scotch. The owner's been beckoning me to stay longer than my 5-minute business transaction and enjoy the lounge in all its glory. I'm nearly visited 5 times and I think the next time, I have to. Great owner and manager in Chad. Knows his cigars well and has a broad selection of name brands and boutiques for those true cigar aficionados. He also carries an excellent houseblend cigar which is a Nicaraguan handrolled/puro. I recommend the barber pole wrapper, figured shaped house blend. Prices are fair which range from bottom shelf to top shelf pricing to match the type of cigars chad carries. While it isn't the biggest cigar lounge in the OC, the place is setup to where seating shouldn't be an issue. There's a front and back seating arrangement with sofas and recliners. The walk-in humidor is centered in between these two seating areas. First let me say that I am a member of a private cigar club in Fullerton that has a full bar and 10+ TVs including one huge big screen, pool table, poker table and recliners. I love my club and won't be leaving soon. That being said, Islands seems like a great place to hang out to have a cigar without having to pay a membership fee. The prices are decent, not as good as what you can get online, but less expensive than all the other cigar shops I've been to in Orange County. I frequent this area of town a lot because of the dry cleaners next door and the gas station across the street, but I'm always in a hurry. I decided to stop in the other night and I enjoyed a couple of sticks and watching the hockey game on the modestly sized flat panel. The TV is just the right size for the small lounge. Any bigger would be too big. The chairs are comfortable and the owner attentive. A little more attentive than I prefer but I suspect that if I become a regular he may not try so hard to convince me that this is the place to be. We had a nice conversation and I let him know my preferences about how I use cigar shops. Let's see if he was listening... If you're reading this review to see if you should try out Islands, you really should give them a try. Stop in and have a smoke. I know that warmer weather allows us to smoke outside but cigars really need to be experienced inside. If you have a problem with too much smoke, be cognizant of that if you attend a tasting event. They can be very smoky but you really shouldn't miss the events. Lots of giveaways and you meet many other cigar smokers. Overall, this shop/lounge has a nice magnetosphere, good prices, nice selection and is a place I will visit again. I am not a friend of the owner and he did not ask me to write this review. The owner is a nice guy and after a few more visits I'm sure that I will consider him a friend.
