As I continued searching for places worth sitting down, lighting up, and staying awhile, I headed out to Maxamar Ultimate Cigars in the City of Orange. The first thing that struck me was the sheer size of the selection. The entire store felt like one massive humidor, packed wall-to-wall with premium cigars from nearly every major brand imaginable. As a longtime fan of Davidoff cigars, I immediately noticed they carried what appeared to be the full Davidoff lineup, including rare and exclusive releases that are difficult to find elsewhere. I was fortunate enough to meet John, a retired tech industry professional now working part-time at Maxamar. John has been smoking cigars for nearly 50 years, beginning as a young man alongside his father. Having grown up in the Middle East, he explained that cigar smoking at an early age was far more common there than it is in the United States. His knowledge of the inventory, the Davidoff line, and the cigar industry as a whole was genuinely impressive. Maxamar has a very sizable collection and their prices are pretty much standard from what I've seen at other shops; and even less expensive than some. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to help you pick something out. The reason this gets 3 stars is that numerous times I've gone in there, I've had to hear personal political opinions regarding CA or the country in general. If you're hanging out smoking a cigar outside the shop that's one thing. However, when I'm in there for 5 minutes just to pick up a smoke, I don't need to hear short-sighted, ignorant, and often factually incorrect commentary about the government. America. Visited Maxamar on a recommendation by a friend of mine. Upon arriving, I was greeted immediately and welcomed. The lounge has a huge TV, couple of tables, several lounge chairs and a kitchenette with coffee, water and soft drinks. As I walked through the humidor, I was impressed with the cigar selection and the price. I found 2 cigars I've been searching for a while and bought one of my favorites to smoke there. Been buying cigars here for what seems like forever. Awesome selection and the guys working the store are helpful and knowledgeable. They moved across the parking lot to a new space and while it's not the Serling treasures humidor of old you can find whatever your palette desires. The lounge is technically the patio and with no TVs makes for interesting and lively discussions. There's a mister system for when it's warm and heaters when the cold sets in. There's water available and pretty sure espresso if you ask nicely. Parking can be a pain but worth the trouble for the experience. read more

Larger than high times in costa mesa and definitely offers more cigar brands. What i like best bout maxi lounge is that they carry boutique brands. Whenever I visit another cigar shop/lounge (not by choice, but our of sheer desperation), I feel compelled to write another review on here for Maxamar. This place just keeps getting better... and keeps making every other shop look lousy. From the best prices, to the finest humidor with the largest selection, to really knowledgeable (and professional!) employees, to just being a REAL cigar shop with the true cigar smoker and aficionado in mind... Maxamar holds up as a 12 on a scale of 10. Mark has always been the gentleman and Jeremy is one of the best ambassadors for this shop I've ever known -- the guy knows his stuff and has helped me every Friday when I creep in to grab some sticks for the weekend (thanks!!!). The real reason for this third 5 star review is... I went into another shop I used to frequent (in Fullerton), in the late evening last week, after the cigars I bought from Maxamar were stolen off a bartop when I went to the restroom... everything from the prices to the service I received and even the exchange between their shopkeep and I was a HUGE disappointment. Every time I'm forced to go to any other cigar shop (again, not by choice), I appreciate what I have here.... Not only does the competition's prices and selection suck, but the people they've hired to run the place and the out-of-the-know patrons make for a lackluster experience... such is not the case at Maxamar. Haven't gone in yet. I called over the phone about setting up a box I got for Christmas and man they were knowledgeable, friendly and everything I haven't experienced in a cigar shop.
