I first noticed Island Quisine a year or so ago while visiting other businesses close by. I was finally able to swing in and try them out. I had looked at their menu many times before but nothing really stood out for me and reviews didn't help with making a good selection either. My mother was looking for caribbean food for an event and mentioned she had tried them recently and was not impressed so I decided I must see what the deal was. Since my mother did not like the food, I decided I would try their pineapple ginger drink because it's my favorite drink. I went into the restaurant and waited for the lady behind the counter to finish what she was doing and placed my order for a simple large pineapple ginger drink. That was all I wanted because I had decided to get food from somewhere else. The best of both worlds right! It was $5 and some change and that was fine for what I haven't had in months. While the lady was preparing my drink, I made sure to let her know I did not want ice. She responded, I don't know what's wrong with y'all. I knew she was talking to me but I asked her to repeat herself, just to make sure and she said the same thing and added not wanting ice in your drinks. I told her I don't put ice in any of my drinks. She said the drink was so sweet. I thought to myself, why are you making it so sweet then? I let it go and took my drank and left out of the store. I attended an event Saturday March 14th 2026, in which Island Quizine Catered. The service was horrible. First, the lady Wendy who was over the food situation,(an employee of Island Quizine) was so, rude & mean to the event attendees. First, when we walked inside the dining area, there was a spoon full of dry salad on each plastic plate. Next, the menu consist of one small piece of greasy chicken that was cut in half, dry rice and a few beans, and a few string beans. The food was not seasoned, it was a mess. The lady Wendy was fussing with the young people who volunteered to help. One mentioned that the lady was unsanitary with the food and utensils. She claimed that Wendy was reusing the dirty plates and and cups giving them to the attendees. They eventually left the event early. The lady did not have enough food after these people paid their money. Also, she spilt a slice of cake in half and put it on each plate. They ran out of punch and lemonade. This was a Gospel event but the food was not cooked or given with love. Once she's finished yelling I tell her my name and she proceeds to tell me my total is $24 and some change. Which is alarming not only because I've always gotten this and NEVER paid this much but also because she mentioned it was one of the "Specials" for today. So I asked her did they have a price increase I've never paid that much her response is "NO" I said well again I never paid that much. She says " WELL ITS A LARGE" I said I didn't ask for a large. This lady responds as she rolls her eyes and says "you didn't ask for a small either" I explained that I wasn't giving the option I just asked for a pasta she said "well you shoulda been clear" at this point I had no intentions of going back and forth with her or even patronizing this business again. I often patronized this particular restaurant before Covid. I've been once since Covid started in April of 2020. I assumed the ridiculous wait for food that was called in was due to them trying to enforce the Covid protocols. I haven't been back since. I went in today and called in the order. I ordered a large sorrel with my meal. Btw, a large drink is $8 plus tax. I prepaid for the order to cut down on the wait time. They now have a pick up area which I thought would make my order easier to pick up. I was wrong First the man in front of me had ordered a large soup which they had apparently already gotten messed up. Upon getting his second order he comes back in and its not even the correct soup ‍ When I ask for my order it's was supposedly being plated. 15 minutes later she comes with my order but no sorrel. She said they didn't have any but they charged me for it. I told her that should have been told to me before I was charged. She tried to get me to select another drink, but I didn't want anything else. She wanted me to go to the line where you place your orders for my refund. I told het since it wasn't my mistake that she needed to take the receipt over and have my receipt corrected. She did this. The cashier then gave me a refund in cash minus the tax of .48. When I asked her "wasn't this order taxed?" She opened the cash drawer and begrudgingly gave me the .48. I swear their customer service has gotten awful and they expect you just to accept it They don't take anything off for mistakes they make or toss an little something extra in your bag. I was blown away by both the food and the service. I asked the young woman at the counter what kind of chicken she recommended for a first-timer. She asked me to sit down, and said she would take care of me. After a few minutes, she brought out a sampler tray with curry, brown stewed and jerked chicken, along with a free tropical juice drink for me and my colleague. All 3 were good, but I went with a 1/4 lb jerked chicken (dark meat) and a side of rice & peas.
