I have family on Whidbey and have been trying for years to get to Island Nosh - they have limited hours and are not generally open on weekends so it's hard to get to. But finally, one day, success! The place is modern and clean and hip inside; and it looks like there is a cute outside too. We had dogs in the car so ordered take out and got Thai iced teas to drink while we were waiting - refreshing and delicious. The food itself is themed around various noodly comfort foods from different parts of the world. I got the Singapore curry noodles and my spouse got a gochugang noodle dish. Both were enough for 2-3 meals and both were good - mine was a tiny bit dry. I wished there were a few more veggies in mine but it was still great. The cost was very reasonable as well. Wow! This place just a few stones' throws from the Clinton ferry dock doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but it truly is. The emphasis is on noodles, and a good proportion of the menu items and specials have an Asian slant to them, which both surprised and delighted us. Both of us had the Pad See Ew special, me with tofu (thank you for being considerate of us vegetarians) and my friend with flank steak, and let me tell you, this doesn't take second place to even the best Thai restaurants in the Seattle area. Everything about it was absolutely perfect - some of the best I've ever had! They serve it non-spicy to accommodate all preferences, but with ample hot sauce on the table so you can spice it up to your taste. Per the menu, they appear to make an effort to use produce from local farmers, which is nice. Beer, wine and an interesting boozy wine-cider hybrid are available. This seems to be primarily a take-out restaurant, but there is limited seating in the main house (somewhat noisy, with a country snack bar ambiance) and an attractive outdoor seating area that is reasonably well sequestered from the passing auto traffic. We were quite surprised at the reasonable prices, and the staff was super friendly. If you dine in, you order at the cash register, and they bring you your food once it's ready. Parking in front is a bit limited, but this being Whidbey Island, you can always find a place just a short walk away. Now, for the caveat. They are open only Wednesday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. That's right - Wednesday through Friday, afternoons and evenings only. No weekends! It is owned by the cooks, and they apparently manage to make a go of it without the weekend tourist traffic. So if you want to discover the delights of this place, you'll need to come during the week, which is the best time to visit Whidbey Island anyway. An absolutely lovely surprise! I really like Island Nosh. For a short trip on the ferry over to Whidbey Island, it really feels like I'm much further away from Everett/Seattle than I am. My friend got us take out after an evening of fishing. The crab Mac and cheese was excellent, the container was densely packed with noodles and a cheese sauce that was mild enough to not detract from the main event: boatloads of crab. I was very impressed with how much crab they packed into the Mac and cheese, and it was good quality meat too. We also got chicken and shrimp pad Thai, which, while not the best pad Thai I've ever had, was certainly serviceable. Great variety on the menu and a stellar crab Mac and cheese. Straight up the main road from the Clinton ferry dock is this adorable little eatery. Since I was early for an event further inland on the island, I had a few hours to kill, so I stopped in here, based on all the good Yelp reviews. As usual, my fellow Yelpers didn't steer me wrong. I liked how this place has a designated parking lot right in front. The interior is small but cute, decorated with a eclectic island-y decor,, complete with funky octopus displays, and with colorful Island Nosh t-shirts and other merchandise prominently on display on the wall, available for purchase. The menu is posted on a chalkboard above the front counter. They don't have a ton of options but primarily focus on bowl meals: mostly hot noodle dishes of various ethnic cuisines: Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indian), Italian, German/Bavarian, and American Mac 'n Cheese. They also offer 2 or 3 large cold salad bowls. Price points for the meals range from $11-15 and the portions are VERY generous. I would have liked a side salad or half-portion of a meal but they didn't have smaller plates. I opted to get the Whidbey Vegetarian bowl which was delicious but way too much for me (I left half as I couldn't take it with me. Bummer). I liked how they offered lots of beverages (a sign was offering Bellinis that day and I was tempted to get one, but since I had an event to get to and I'd be driving, I decided against it), and there were a LOT of delectable-looking cookies and squares on the counter by the cash. Nice! Since it was a lovely day, I ventured outside to the adorable patio area, complete with cute tables and benches and chairs and umbrellas for shade. I liked how they had a table offering complimentary iced lemon water (SO welcome on a hot day!). Two little boys were operating a lemonade stand adjacent to the patio, hitting up all us Nosh diners (hard to resist cute young entrepreneurs, but I'm not sure all the other diners felt likewise). A big shout-out to the helpful lady who took my order, who was working the cash, as she really took the time to give me directions to my next appointment on the Island (I'm totally not familiar with this area and the event I was going to was off the beaten path - a lot). read more

I'd probably give it 3.5 stars and will definitely try it again at some point. I ordered a chicken pad Thai as well as a drunken chicken to go, of which the food wasn't terrible and would say the it was probably a 7 or so out of 10? The pad Thai was a little dry and lacking slightly in flavor but by no means bad and the chicken in both dishes also was a little tough, had slightly less flavor like they cooked it separately and then added it in later at the very end? Again, definitely not bad food or even mediocre, it was definitely at least average or maybe even a little bit above average for Thai food. The drunken chicken definitely had more flavor to it than the pad Thai, of which when I go back that would be one of the dishes I'd want to get, although it was a special... so I might not have that luxury next time? I think the biggest gripes that I have with this place would be the hours, pricing and portion size. I live on the mainland but have a summer beach cabin in Maxwelton, of which the hours of the restaurant are only Wednesday through Friday from 3-8 pm... so if you aren't up here during the week and can't get up here before 8 pm on a Friday night then you're out of luck. Although with how busy they were with to go orders tonight, I'm sure they have enough business on the south end of the island to only need to be open limited days and hours every week? On top of that, the pad Thai was $14 and the drunken chicken was I think $16? of which I'm glad that I got two dishes as I wasn't even close to being full after eating just the pad Thai. I'm a bigger guy and eat more than I'm sure the average person would, but the portions are definitely on the smaller side. I'm by no means trying to bash the restaurant as they have decent food and maybe I need to dine in or they had an off night? As stated before, I'll definitely go back and give them another chance as the choices of restaurants on the south end of the island is quite lacking, but I think there are a small handful of things that they could do to make it a more enjoyable experience. We were happy when this place opened up (we used to eat at La Paz Baja mexican food) and we like all the bowls. Yellow curry is tasty and we've tried almost all the bowls. Thai curry is good too and the Whidbey veggie bowl is excellent. Service is generally fast and efficient .. usually get it taken out, and now that's even easier post-covid. Call your order in. This is a pretty good place for an odd mix of Thai and American comfort food. They have tried very hard to stay open during the pandemic by doing a thriving takeout business and then expanding their outdoor patio space for dining. We've tried the Pad Thai, Whidbey Bowl and Thai Yellow Curry. All good dishes. A favorite is the Thursday appetizer special Bao Buns. Yum! They are little soft flour taco tortillas with a teriyaki pork filling and spices. Mmmm. Downside are their limited days of week (W-F) and hours. I have celiac disease, so I naturally thought that there was no way that I could find anything to eat at a noodle restaurant. I'm so happy I was wrong! And I'm also embarrassed that I've lived down the street for over a year and never stopped in. The menu: They had 3 gluten free options on their menu. 1 was a noodle dish and the other two were salads. I opted for the Chicken pad thai salad. Which was amazing! Came for th food. Left for the food. Raymond put up a stern fight like a baby horse trying to walk, obviously stumbled and fell over. I'm not talking about the krabster Mac and cheese. That was pretty good and I put some in my plastic tipper wear that my daughter brought over from her tipper wear party with her married friends. My daughter isn't married but she's pretty pregnant right now. I had the uper bowl or something. But I think, remove the mushrooms next times. The beef flank really stole the show though. Sizzling and zesty like my personal life about 30 years ago when Raymond could really lay down the hog, reminding me of his BBQ ways and smoking that fat hog.
