The service and food was awesome!! Definitely my favorite breakfast spot we tried on vacation. They sat us down right away even though it was pretty crowded. Everyone in my family loves their food and it's definitely fairly priced. Great atmosphere and not right downtown if you're looking to get away from the congestion of main st area for a meal. Came her Friday night without reservations and was seated right away on the porch Our waitress was great and sung the praises of "her" chowder so I was game and boy did she hit that won out of the park. We've been coming here for years enjoying both breakfast and lunch. Food is fabulous, dropped to 4 stars due to service which can be slow at times and inconsistent. Good food and very friendly. Service, not so much. Waited for waitress for 15 minutes twice and then 25 minutes for desert that still wasn't ready. We were told that the kitchen missed the order on the screen which certainly seems possible but doesn't explain why we needed to ask for our waitress to alert her that it had been 25 minutes since we had ordered our pie. Island Kitchen has done a fantastic job of putting social distancing best practices into place! They have a hostess stand out front & plenty of outdoor tables & picnic tables. I've been twice in the last 10 days & had the burger both times- delicious! The first time I had regular fries, which were very good. The second time I had the sweet potato fries & they were amazing! The food was amazing! I had the panko crusted Benedict and my boyfriend had the spicy sausage scramble. If you love eggs Benedict, I would HIGHLY recommend the panko one. Great breakfast spot on nantucket. I have now tried "the animal" and the "breakfast sandwich" both are very very good. They have "healthy" options my boyfriend got the egg white spinach omelet which was also very good. I'd say this is by far my favorite breakfast spot on the island, only flaw is slow service but that is everywhere I have ever been on Nantucket, and the delicious food makes up for it. They have a great outdoor patio, and during peak season weekends are busy and I would recommend making a reservation esp for larger parties. read more

We were very excited by the menu and other reviews, but ended up very disappointed by our dinner takeout experience. We had to wait a few minutes on a weekday for someone to even speak to us. The tuna in both the appetizer and main had very little flavor. The grain bowl had probably twice the rice of a normal grain bowl, which felt like they were just adding filler. I would give island kitchen zero stars for customer service. Made a reservation for December 7, during the holiday stroll weekend. I received a call yesterday about the reservation, asking for a credit card to hold the reservation. As any person in this day and age should know, you don't just give out your credit card over the phone. The gentleman that contacted me told me I could go on open table and rebook, and proceeded to cancel my reservation. When I went to open table to try and rebook the time was gone. I tried calling the restaurant, leaving two messages and haven't heard back. Needless to say I am disappointed in the service I have received and will never eat at island kitchen based on this. read more

We sat outside at Island Kitchen and they have a lot of seating and can accomodate large groups. They did move on island time, so if you're in a hurry this may not be the spot for you. I got the tofu scramble, but you can't go wrong with the avocado toast, eggs benedict, breakfast burrito, or the animal sandwhich which is panko crusted eggs, bacon, sausage, with hollandaise on a brioche bun. read more

My omelet... oh my gosh! Brie and mushrooms are two of my favorite things, put it into an omelette and I'm sold, hands down! You have the option to get black beans or fries as a side. I opted for the black beans which although a bit different for me, were fantastic. read more

Fabulous. Simple sausage, eggs, Portuguese muffin, homemade hash browns, all fabulous. The sausage was actually grilled, like...grill marks...like a burger would be grilled. It made a huge difference. Potatoes were great and the scrambled eggs were perfect...you'd be surprised how easy eggs are to mess up. Served up with good coffee at the bar by Pete, a really friendly guy working seasonally at the restaurant. Absolutely go here. read more

I gave this a five just because breakfast in Nantucket can be such a chore if your'e eating in town, always a line for sub-par food at very high prices, but if you bring a car or someone in your party has one just pile in and head out of town a very short distance, down Orange St, to Chin Street (actually make a right one street ahead onto Dave's) turn left and the next left is in I.K's parking lot. where there is plenty of parking. We had great coffee, my husband had a "build your own omelet" he said it was very good (it looked good too), I had the Breakfast Burrito which was big enough for three people and very good, way too much to eat though. The next day I had the French Toast and fresh fruit and my husband another variation of the omelet. We'll for sure be back. We were in Nantucket over Columbus Day week and never had a wait in line. Our wait staff was friendly and attentive. Prices are above average for all meals because it is Nantucket and everything gets shipped in or Farm raised in the island. We always come to the island prepared to pay about 30% more for meals than anywhere else in Massachusetts, it's just the way it is. read more

Went there with my family the other night. We didn't know what to expect but we were in for a surprise! This unassuming place really knows how to prepare food. My three children have very individual tastes and each of theirs were satisfied. My younger son had the burger but insisted on trying everyone's dinner! And he was wowed! My other son ordered the chicken dinner and loved it. My husband ordered the steak and I was a little skeptical because you have to take a chance ordering a steak at a "non-steak" place. He loved it and so did my son who on trying everyone's dinner declared it the best of all the dishes. Both my daughter and I ordered the fish special which was delicious. The service staff was very attentive and cheerful. I can't wait to go back,there were a few dishes I didn't get to try but I'm sure they will be as good as the ones my family enjoyed. read more

Not very many (or good) breakfast places off season on the island so it was a nice surprise to find Island Kitchen just outside of town (10-15 min walk) serving breakfast. Menu is small but diverse with nice pairings. Order #1: the house special turkey hash with 2 eggs over med. And grilled English muffin. Turkey hash was very flavorful, nice crispness on outside and creamy inside with nice chunks of turkey. Eggs were cooked just right and not greasy. Order #2: Scramble with goat cheese, spinach and smoked salmon scramble was good and not a muddled mess. Flavors were good and ingredients were fresh. Owner/chef was working the line with other cooks and had great command over kitchen and food coming out. Coffee was hot and service was good. Appropriately attentive. Clean restaurant And bathroom. Lunch and dinner menus looked good as well (small, diverse with nice pairings) Overall friendly atmosphere and very good breakfast. read more

Great new spot in town! Definitely worth checking out! We have been there 3 times for dinner this summer and all experiences have been excellent. The food was creative, but made with fresh local Nantucket ingredients. Get the striped bass if it is available! Best I've had in a long time. Service was outstanding. Folks very friendly. Had one dinner at the bar which was fun way to watch the chefs at work. Chef/owner came out and chatted with us. Been working on the island for years and this is his first entrepreneurial venture. I have been here for dinner twice and to have a place with this quality of food yet not be downtown and paying downtown prices is awesome. Tonight, I arrived when they opened and started with Finnan Haddie with pieces of fresh haddock seared in a pan in the delicious cream sauce that I could have had by the gallon. Talk about old school, it has been years and years since I have seen Finnan Haddie on a restaurant menu. They also have weinerschnizel which is another old school dish that you never see on restaurant menus anymore. For my main entrée, I had a sirloin steak that was seasoned and marinated perfectly with little fat and tender as could be. Sometimes, I'm leery about ordering beef dishes at restaurants because either they are too fatty or chewy, but this was out of this world. The menu said it came with twice baked potatoes, so while I was surprised when it came out with mashed instead, with the bernaise sauce that accompanied the steak, the potatoes were outstanding. I hate too smooth mashed potatoes that tastes like Betty Crocker and these were not. Just enough lumps and thick enough that with the bernaise was heaven in my mouth. The service is outstanding and with tip and drinks the cost was only $54.00, which to some isn't cheap, but on Nantucket, especially for the quality is well worth the price. The only word of warning ( if you want to call it that ), is don't be put off necessarily by the fact that they might not have a huge menu compared to other restaurants in the same pricing range. They had numerous nightly specials where the owners let the chefs show their creativity. Had there not been the finnan haddie, there was a scallop appetizer special that I would have had in a heartbeat. They also had a $15. prime rib special that I bet would have been very good as well. They are a bit hard to find across the street from the mid-island Stop and Shop where the Hen House used to be, but with the numerous phone calls that my waitress was constantly receiving asking for reservations, in the short few months that it has been open, there is a good buzz on the island about this place and I wouldn't hesitate to come back here again and again. read more

I was happy with the food and table service. Unfortunately they don't have a designated host to write down names when you arrive and everyone seemed a bit lost as to who was going to sit and who had to wait. The restaurant is putting extra chairs in the lobby which makes it impossible to stand and wait inside. It was cold when I last went and I felt like I was bothering the staff by standing in the small lobby area where there was also a high amount of traffic. My breakfast came in a timely manner and my veggie scramble and a home made biscuit was perfect. A healthier choice for sit down breakfast with a good menu. read more

There should really be two separate entries for Island Kitchen - breakfast/brunch and dinner. Breakfast/brunch is the equivalent of diner food. One of the more reasonably priced breakfast places on the island and the food is perfectly adequate. (It's not like there's a great place on the island for breakfast.) However, dinner is exceptional. The two dinners we've had here place it as the best food on the island, though keep in mind the atmosphere is still that of a diner, which frankly I prefer. My partner calls it Julia Child/French Provincial Comfort food. The idea of eating the highest quality, meticulously prepared food without the trappings of a frou-frou delicate super fancy restaurant is extremely appealing, to me at least. I'd rate dinner here as #1 on the island. read more
