Ate again at one of our favorite shabu-shabu spots this weekend! When we arrived, it was pretty empty, which made for a relaxed and cozy experience. We sat right where we usually do--our favorite spot in the high seat in the center. Vicky was our waitress again, and as always, she provided excellent customer service--attentive, friendly, and welcoming. Shabu-shabu is such a fun and comforting meal, especially on a rainy day. My husband and I came here for dinner around 6:30 pm on a Friday night. Street parking was easy to find nearby. We came without a reservation as they don't take reservations for parties less than four people. The restaurant was pretty quiet when we arrived and we were seated immediately. The nice thing about this restaurant is that each person has their own hotpot, and each hotpot is also split, so you get to try two sauces. There are different set menus you can choose from, or you can also order meats a la carte, though I do think the sets are better value. We ordered the takoyaki to share between us. I liked these but my husband, who doesn't like takoyaki that much, thought they were just fine. The meats and veggies that we got here were just fine. There was nothing bad about them, but I thought they were pretty mediocre--I honestly thought I could have made a better hotpot shopping at the grocery and making my own at home. Great Shabu shabu place. My husband brought me here on a date after having a friend rave about it from work. We had never been and honestly probably had no idea what we were doing at first but it was fun and we did get the hang of it. I think I even burnt some crab and the server had to put my temp down for the pot lol. Was a bit embarrassed lol luckily we sat next to a couple who were friendly and exchanged a few words and some tips on how to order next time. This was a while ago, but since then we have been to a few more shabu places and enjoy this as a treat once in a while. Yes it is pricey but the quality of food is great and you can customize it. The tonkotsu broth and sukiyaki were very bland; the sukiyaki barely had any taste and didn't seem authentic. Both the goma sauce and ponzu sauce lacked flavor and authenticity as well. The meat was tasty, but for $39, the portion felt small and limited. The fried oysters were overcooked and slightly burnt, making $11.99 for 4 pieces feel overpriced and not worth it. The staff seemed rushed, and the place felt understaffed. Overall, I'd rate it 3 out of 5 stars. I don't think I'll be returning. This place is the best shabu place on the west side but it's more expensive than expected for the amount of food they provide. The price is on par with Hai Di Lao. For two, it came out to $120 including tip. Though I thought the meat is high quality and the vegetable platter was fresh, I'm not sure if I would come back often. Shabu on a cold night really hits the spot and this is a solid spot for it. I'm a fan of the Prime Ribeye. There's also US and Japnese wagyu. Since normally I go with the konbu soup base, which is really mild, the ribeye has enough beef flavor while also giving me the fatty bite I want. The veggies are the standard ones you get for shabu spots. You can order ramen on the side and it seems like a lot do, but the included rice is enough for us. Sauce-wise you get to grind your own sesame seeds or the sesame sauce. Ponzu is the weak one for us out of the two - a bit too one dimensional. For the apps, we really like the squid legs kaarage. Typical beer and sake selection. Prices have been slowly creeping up like most places. We usually come on weeknights so it tends to be somewhat emptier. It was slow when we arrived, and they were great about always making sure we got what we needed and still gave us plenty of space to enjoy without hovering. I've been here before and wanted to give it another chance. Wlomens bathroom was clean but the paper towel holder didn't work and kept falling open hitting my hand and the trash is the kind you step on and open but it wasn't working. The beef is not good quality and the goma and ponzu sauce was really not good. The waiter was very nice though, but it's not quality food. They also reuse the noodles if they are untouched. Even their plates and bowls looked more aesthetically pleasing than other restaurants I've been to. Our staff was nice and friendly to us. Cook at your own pace! I really enjoy the fact that they give you tongs, and a big spoon for you to place your meat in the broth and also grab broth whenever you want. So many other hot pot restaurants lack this. My usual go-to shabu shabu place had an hour wait, so we decided to try this place. There was plenty of parking and we were seated immediately. The place is clean, modern and has clear dividers between every 2 seats for COVID protection. As for the food, each entree comes with a set of vegetables (see picture), a bowl of rice, and a bowl of udon. Each entree comes with a meat selection, although I was initially confused by what each size ("medium" vs. "large") entailed. Our server kindly explained to us that medium is about 6 oz. and large is about 8 oz. We ordered kurobuta pork, wagyu signature kobe (signature cut), and added a side of angus prime short rib. The quality of the meat was great, and my personal favorite was the kurobuta pork- the meat was so tender! The angus prime short rib was also tasty- I highly recommend this as an add-on item to share with your dining partner. The assorted vegetables included spinach, napa cabbage, two carrots, one tofu, one mini corn, one imitation crab, one mushroom, one fish cake, two broccoli, vermicelli noodles and one lotus root. I had to deduct a star mainly because it seems like the menu is structured to take every bit of your money. For example, the regular konbu broth (which is just plain water with few pieces of seaweed floating around) is the default that comes with the entree, but if you want to add flavor, it was additional $2 to $3. If you want to order a combo, you can pick and choose your meat, but be aware that certain cuts are considered "upgrades" and you will have to pay more per each cut. I took longer time studying the menu because I didn't want to overpay accidentally. But hey, good food comes with a cost, I guess. I think our dining experience would've been more enjoyable if the servers explained to us on how to use the stove. During my meal, the server would come by to lower or raise the heat without telling me, and at the end, they turned off my stove when I wasn't looking. I wanted to cook my rice inside the pot at the end, but since I didn't know how to turn it back on, I couldn't finish the meal like I wanted to. This is just a minor thing and I understand they may have been shorts-staffed during peak dining hours. But I think this little detail can help their diners have a better experience in the future. read more

FRIED OYSTER: This was a test to see if I actually don't like fried oysters or if it was just the restaurants I've been to. My friends liked this, so final verdict is I just don't like fried oysters! 3. BROTH (Tonkotsu w/ added spice, ribeye prime, and prime short rib): The broth didn't really taste like tonkotsu to me. First the service, we had lots of questions about the meats and combos and they were very helpful. Overall the staff were super nice and attentive! Now the meats were incredible!!! I got the combo with the prime ribeye and signature cut. My friend got the A5 japanese wagu. They were so good and tender, the flavor was impeccable! We decided to order another plate of the prime ribeye. It was our favorite but all of them were delicious. The restaurant is very big with tons of seating options. I wasn't expecting it to be this great but it was wonderful. We also got to take a Polaroid and put it on the wall, which was fun. My go to shabu place! I randomly found this place on Yelp and I'm so glad I did. Whenever I'm feeling shabu, I'll head to iShabu Shabu! Love the Tonkotsu broth with half toro and half pork. Veggies are fresh and comes with udon noodles. Ask for spicy hot drops and add it to your sauces. It gives it that kick of heat that compliments the meat so well! Shay took care of my guest and I starting with the wonderful broths that are offered. We ordered the combo, and it was more food than either of us could eat. While quite different then the true 5-star experience of fine Shabu Shabu in Tokyo, the presentation was fantastic, food was wonderful, and it was a wonderful meal. Pretty good shabu spot in South Bay area. I like to order the spicy tonkatsu broth which is a vegetarian base. They do charge $1 extra to make it spicy. It seems tho that they increased their prices quite significantly. The portion was quite small especially for the price. We love coming here. You get a good size portion of meat for a decent price, you do not leave unsatisfied. Plan to go around sunset for a nice view. Heads up, they add gratuity for larger parties. The food is five star, the only reason they get a 4 star review is because they didn't give us an itemized receipt and the bill seemed high so I called and they said they add tip to parties larger than 4 (we had 4 + a baby).
