Omg, it is so sad. This place went down since we were here a year ago a lot . I remember year ago we enjoyed the food very much. We ordered big eye sushi this time. You can get better quality of tuna at Costco. Unagi sushi had very smelly fish taste. Not fresh at all. Rainbow roll was the best . It's extremely hard to ruin CA roll. This is a reason it was OK. The biggest disappointment was whole fish dish. Google is raving about it . The waiter said they have it twice a year only. So we got Mahi colar dish instead. It was OK. But skin should be very crispy. If you live in Los Angeles, go to place called Nico sushi, they have excellent yellowtail collar dish. The service is also very plain. Waiter is done with you after your order. Nobody comes to change the napkins or ask if you need anything else. All in all, we should've skipped this visit this time. When you go to a restaurant, you want something memorable for at least a few days. This visit was comparable to a mediocre all you can eat place. You eat, you pay, you go home. Changed to one star. So this sushi spot was so great we went twice in a week. We didn't have reservations and sat at the bar both times. Servers were beyond hospitable. This restaurant's sushi was so good, so fresh, I would be sad to hear you read this review and didn't make it to this spot. Things we loved: the Komo Mai is a different roll you probably wouldn't try back home so I'd suggest this.. SUPER bomb. The volcano roll was also the best volcano roll I've had. We also ordered the local sashimi chef choice.. fresh fish, so good. Broke da mouth roll was good but I think there are better rolls to choose from. They have a wide variety of options. Their garlic shrimp noodles looked good (this other couple next to us had it) but we didn't try it ourselves. Also, the first night we ordered the local caught pan seared fish special and that was just as good as it sounded! For spring break, my mom paid for our trip to Kihei, Maui. We arrived late in the afternoon plus delayed in our luggage's due to Hawaiian Airlines loading to the wrong plane but was also heading to Maui [I'll do a separate review on them ]. Our first night in Kihei, Maui, we decided to have our dinner at Isana. We were told that there would be a 30-35 minutes of waiting so we have agreed to do a takeout instead. To our surprise, Lita and Chad said there was cancellation as we were placing our orders so we definitely decided to stay to get the full experience We are very happy and pleased to the service we received from Lita and Chad, who greeted us when we walked in providing us with a warm welcome and friendly smile . Then to Andy, who was our server, who shared some of her favorites and also some places to visit in Maui. The food!!! It's definitely a must try place to add to your bucket list, if you haven't yet. We had the White Dragon , Firecracker , Fresh Oysters , Spicy Tuna , Crunchy Tiger , Maui fish 'n Chips, Garlic Prawns Noodles and Burger Sliders with Fries . Opted out for dessert because they ran out of the ube crème brûlée Everything we ate was mouth watering! The fish melted in your mouth. I'm happy to report I can turn my frown upside down for my review almost a decade ago. The spouse said we're going to Isana for a friend's birthday dinner. I silently exhaled with disappointment as while I do enjoy some varieties of sushi, it's not my favorite type of cuisine. ATMOSPHERE: Gone is the upstairs loft bar and seating area. The space looks lightly renovated, with the teppanyaki-style hood vents throughout, though they're all decommissioned but still present. RESERVATIONS: Recommended as they're pretty popular. PARKING: Extremely limited with no overflow options nearby. The lot behind the restaurant is for the condo that shares the property. There are some unofficial street stalls on the shoulder of S Kihei Rd., but it's on sand/dirt and is part of the beach park. MENU: Strong list of booze & mocktails, sushi, tempura, ramen, salads, seafood/meat/poultry entrées (yay), desserts. BEVERAGE: Menehune Mule - $14.00 The bartender forewarned me that theirs has no ginger beer in it, instead replaced with a homemade ginger simple syrup. I concurred. It was good but a mule definitely needs ginger beer with its signature cough-inducing fizz and intense flavor. Hokule'a - $14.00 Served martini-style, this was really refreshing and well-balanced all around. The pineapple flavor wasn't overpowering either, a plus for me. Two yums up! Lilo N Sip - $14.00 The tiki-faced glass and mint green contents brought oohs and ahhs from the table. Finished blended, it was thick, creamy and very milkshake-like. Another highly recommended bev. Shiso Cool - $13.00 I had a DD, thank you very much. Ice cold with crunchy bits of ice swimming around, another winner that was more tart than sweet. And, an anglerfish-like fin ray sported a candied piece of ginger at the end which was excellent to chew on and enjoy throughout the drink. FOOD: I partook in a few sushi dishes ordered for the table, including California, shrimp tempura and unagi rolls - all were good. But, my favorite was definitely the Ribeye Steak Pupu, a sizzling platter of tender steak, mushrooms and onions. I was intent on ordering the Garlic Prawn Noodles but I was pretty content by then. SERVICE: Everyone was terrific! Even with our large party, everything went smoothly with no hiccups. They were so lax about splitting checks too, thank you! If you're a sushi restaurant at least take pride in rolling a decent looking roll. Salmon was ok. Salmon nigiri: ok Unagi cucumber: also very sad looking. Shrimp tempura roll: good flavor! Fried chicken: very crispy and juicy. This was good. 5 pieces bone-in chicken thigh. Small size thighs but actually a good portion. Sliders: very tasty and juicy. Would order this again. We were seated promptly, and our waiter was very attentive and friendly. Inside is nicely decorated and pleasant atmoshphere. We asked for recommendations, and went with what he suggested. We ordered a sushi appetizer and later ordered one of the big rolls. Both had been recommended by the waiter and both were fantastic. Drinks were good also. We finished by splitting an order of the tempura crusted ice cream. Quite a large serving! But so good, that I just had to finish it. Made rsvp for the night, but we ended up arriving at least 45 mins earlier. We were able to get seated right away, which we really appreciated. Our table was seated right by the window so we were able to watch the sunset. It was clean and the table was big enough to order lots. This was probably our favorite restaurant on our recent visit to Maui. Beginning with the beautifully designed interior, warm welcome and friendly waiter, we knew we were in for a fun experience. There were 4 of us and we ordered an assortment of Nigiri and "Big" rolls and enjoyed every one of them. All the fish was fresh, which you could tell in the taste and texture, and definitely added to the experience. We also got an order of crab cakes and those were the best ever, as in minimal breading and sweet, tasty meat. The descriptions and pictures of the rolls were accurate, which doesn't always happen, and just added to our experience. Was very underwhelmed with Isana. We came for the late night happy hour and ate the sliders, "fried chicken", tuna avocado and salmon avocado roll. The sushi was fresh and tasty but definitely would not recommend eating the cooked items from their kitchen. The chicken was not fried - maybe pan fried at best. It had no flavor and was whole chicken thighs which we were not given any utensils to cut it. So we had to use our chopsticks to pick them up and eat off the large pieces. The sliders were flavorless and tough. We were never offered additional drinks and our water carafe was taken mid meal and never brought back. We felt rushed to leave. The staff was super friendly, like we've talked to sushi chefs each time and it made it a fun experience to learn more about Maui! This restaurant was on the resort we stayed in so we decided to walk over and check it out. The overall impression-over priced for the quality and flavor of the food presented. So let's start with the good- our waitress Andy was polite, helpful and kind. Zero issues with the service. The food came quick and beverages were promptly refilled. She was a delight. Now it starts to go downhill with the food. We started with the calamari and the oysters. The calamari was extra chewy and difficult to eat, while the oysters, although fresh, lacked the standard accoutrements like the mignonette sauce and horseradish. It was drizzled with some sort of sauce but it was just bland. For the entrees I ordered the Hamachi jalapeno sashimi with a side of garlic rice that was bereft of any garlic to be named that and my girlfriend a roll that was honestly forgettable. For dessert we got the fried ice cream with tempura fried pound cake. Now the dessert was actually the best thing we ate lol. So again overall for the price vs quality, there are so many other restaurants in the area offering better quality and flavor at the same or lesser price point. Skip this place and head over to a place like OAO. Save yourself the disappointment and dissatisfaction. read more

Went here for late happy hour 9pm-close and although it's a sushi place I saw sliders on the menu and felt like I had to try them. I'm so glad that I did! Probably the best sliders I've had in a while. French fries are slightly battered or at least have something extra to them and they are so good. I tried one of my friend's fried chicken and that too was delicious the sauce it comes with was a creamy ginger sauce that I would probably ask for an extra side of next time because I loved it so much and wanted to dip my fries in it too. I really liked this place. The fish tasted super fresh. We got the salmon skin roll, spicy tuna roll, and spider roll. The classic rolls are reasonably priced ($15-ish), but the specialty rolls are super pricey. The classic rolls were delish. We also got the chili garlic edamame--yum--and cold sake. Incredible service. Never had a wine glass empty. The happy hour prices have gone up about a dollar difference from the Maui Happy Hour app. Everything was very fresh and delicious. Came for a celebration dinner and had a really nice time! Was seated at the window and loved the view of the ocean too. Clueless server and host seriously detracted from what was supposed to be a special occasion celebration, and yet charged us an automatic 20% gratuity for a party of 6 despite 2 of us being babies? If they are serving the "freshest fish on Maui" as their menu claims, why are so many of the menu items breaded and fried or drowned in sauce? Full story is that prior to being seated they told us we would be on a time limit so they could have the table for another party - totally fine. Yet, we had to ask THEM for the check twice when we were ready to go. We also asked them prior to seating if they could bring out a birthday cake we brought as a surprise to our guest. The host agreed and wrote our table number and time limit on it, took it to the fridge. Since the server abandoned us after we got our food, we had to send someone to ask the host about the cake and check. She apparently did not say anything to the server since he finally came back a bit later with just the check. Again, we tried to discreetly ask about the cake by bringing the server our card and check. Meanwhile, the birthday guest is asking "Can we leave yet?" Awful. The server comes back with the receipt and says "I'll go grab that cake now." Awesome job ruining the surprise buddy. Comes to the table and says " I won't embarrass you by singing happy birthday." Cool, we should have just given her the cake in the parking lot for how awful that went. Food was extremely lackluster, we chose this place based on reviews before realizing that we ate here before with no wow memories (unless they've changed ownership in the last 5 years or so). I love the layout and vibe of this place. The sushi bar is big and open, the main bar has plenty of seating and there a tables for both big and small parties throughout. The sushi is what I go for, but there's a ton of other options on the menu that don't involve fish-- a little something for everyone. They have a great happy hour too. Make reservations! One of our favorite places in kehei! First off I want to say thank you so much for taking my mom's celiac allergy very serious. It means so much to us! Eating should be enjoyable and not a hassle and the waitress was perfect in every way when it came to this accommodation. I got the butterfish as an appetizer and it loved how it melted in your mouth with amazing flavor. Also I got their version of a mai tai that I still think about time to time! It was called something like the ocean mai tai , something like that! It is made with ocean vodka and local dark rum. It was heavenly! My boyfriend shared our rolls and also got a steak he loved. The butter fish is excellent! Service is good. Everything else is good but not spectacular for the price.

We were walk-ins, had sushi rolls and nigiri, and some drinks. the drinks were fine but they are always pricey in Maui. The rolls tasted fine, there were decent fish amounts, but on all of them the rice would fall apart as you accessed it with ur chopsticks. It was not a case of we being boobs, just the rice was not made correctly. The vinegar content was all wrong, the rice was not cooled properly before use. So we ended up fighting the sushi construction into our mouths. I cannot recall this ever happening in a sushi restaurant in 50 years of sushi eating. Perhaps just a bad night...or we've been especially lucky. read more

This place was pretty good, we ended up here today at about 330pm so it was happy hour of course! That makes me happy! With drinks and food at a lower price! I'm all for that! We didn't have reservations and that was okay. We got seated right away. The place wasn't that full yet. But I suggest you do make reservations if you're coming here. As I do know they are very busy at times. First of all I had to try their Isana Mule one of my all time favorites and this place didn't disappoint. I love the cute little cup it comes in to. You can actually taste the vodka! First of all we started out with a shrimp tempura roll which was a Happy hour roll. The roll kind of looked sad it had no color to it. But it was okay tasting. We also chose the Pork Chow Fun I know I know I come to Isanas a Sushi Restaurant and I eat Noodles of course I do I love oodles of noodles and this was delicious. The presentation was by far outstanding.it comes with bok choy which was orwtty good to me! We also got the Fried Chicken which was also good too. We got waited on by Andy she was friendly, great and very attentive. As soon as our drinks needed a refill she was right there to get us another. I like that about restaurants that you go to the servers/ waitresses are on top of it. I will be sure to be back soon to write a better review. read more

Because we didn't have reservations, we got to sit at the counter in front of sushi bar. That was great! We could watch the guys make sushi for us. The spicy Hamachi hand roll was not spicy at all I don't think anything that said spicy was spicy. It is very expensive even if we went for happy hour. Just for myself the pictures that I shown cost me $80. And that is just for me. It was very nice and and kind of noisy but that's average the place was clean. So I guess I gave it because it is so expensive and if you want me to come back and afford just me again I don't think so not for $80. read more
