I have had my cut by Brenda several times and every time I have been very happy. My first visit was mainly to try to get my hair back to a color closer to my natural blond, than the dark brown that I had stupidly dyed it to. Ever since she did such a great repair job I have stopped looking for a new place to get my hair done. Everyone there is very friendly, they offer you coffee or tea and it is clean and pleasant. Brenda lets you know if there are any deals going on and also has a policy to let you come back to things changed if you do not like them. I'm more than thrilled that my first ever yelp review is for iSalon- whenever I leave this place I am smiling and feel like skipping to my car... or to Tuckers! I've been coming here for 2+ years now after my girl at Tomo's flat out refused to take my hair above my chin. I think she actually lacked the skill to take it any shorter because she couldn't even cut a straight line on my bob but- whatevs! Sandra to the rescue; she gave me exactly what I was looking for w little direction- short and sophisticated.. sigh I loved it. Being a person with long hair all my life, getting it cut and colored could be a daunting task because growing out a bad hair cut or color takes forever with longer hair. That is if you don't opt for the easy solution of just cutting it all off. iSalon's hair stylist listens to your needs and wants. I usually come with a picture. On multiple occasions they were able to bring the picture to life and put it on my head, if anything, even better. I leave with plenty of head turns and compliments. Once or twice, I've been stopped to get a picture of my hair so they can get it replicated. The only thing I question is the health of my hair. I understand that getting it colored over time can dull your hair and even make it look frizzy and wiry. In the past, I've gone to a different place to color my hair and she was able to maintain my healthy shine and texture. I think this is where iSalon lack. You win some, you lose some. I love the pricing there and their stylist. I've spent 4-6 hours there before just getting my hair done. Even then, I don't leave with wallet bleeding. read more

I'm from San Francisco but I'm house sitting for my Parents in Alameda. My hairs been in a bun for weeks because its big and poofy and I don't know what to do with it. I was a little hesitant about going to a salon in Alameda bc I'm use to the salons in SF but it was an emergency..I called to book a last minute appointment. Got an appointment for the same day! (Awesome). I walked in 5 minutes early to my appt and I can't say I was greeted warmly definitely was not greeted right away. But after standing there for 30 seconds someone finally did. They do offer you a beverage and they do let you play with an Ipad. I was still hestitant about my appt. because all these reviews online rave about Desi and Brenda and of course I want the best stylist especially if you're trying out a new place. They were booked and I got Jessica. During my cut the stylists were talking about how they were getting drunk at whoevers wedding....loudly. I thought it was a little unprofessional...but it was late in the day and i'm sure they were tired and wanted to unscrew their smiles. SO THE MORAL OF MY REVIEW IS , Jessica, shes the new girl in the shop but she did an AMAZING job and my hair looks great. Like seriously, great. I'm a salon whore and I jump from salon to salon bc i'm never satisfied with the results. Nobody has ever butchered my hair but it wasn't great. Did I say my hair looks great? When I first came to iSalon to have my favorite stylist LINDA cut my hair , I was a wreck! Linda worked some miracles on me ! My roots were overgrown by a few inches, my blonde highlights was dry and overworked and the blonde and colors my last stylist made me look washed out. LINDA SAVED ME!!!! She cut and layered my hair , then toned down the washed out blondes with a rich brown coloring underneath , then gave me light brown streaks and blonde highlights. She also did a luxurious hot oil hair and scalp treatment ....AHHHHHH, Heaven it was for me spiritually and my hair loved it!! When she finished drying my hair and styling it - I looked and felt like I just got out of a salon like those Finesse comercials :) I am very pleased with my stylist LINDA .Linda is an attractive and very sweet person and is definitely an expert in her field and very professional. I love her genuiness - she makes good honest recomendations based on your face,coloring,body type ,style and your goals and she will let you know if she thinks something that you wanted to have done will work or not be flaterring . I saw Betty back in September and was finally inspired to actually style my hair to show off my perfect ombre that she hooked me up with! I brought in numerous pics a la Pinterest and she picked the best option for me based on my skin tone/other color I came in with. I appreciate her expertise and directness, so I let her do whatever she wanted and was more than excited with the results. She actually used a 1" curling iron to show off the color variations after blowing out my hair, and I really felt so pampered since I know she took that extra time for me. My mom is a more regular client of Betty's and absolutely loves her as well. I have been to her before once and twice before to Nicole, a stylist who is no longer with iSalon, and I can honestly say that my hair color and cuts from both ladies lasted months, grew out perfectly, and did not fry my hair when I got home and styled it myself. I am not the kind of person who blows out my hair everyday, and I probably cut my hair once every nine months, so this is the kind of thing that impresses me...when I still can get compliments on how bouncy my layers look after that long, you know that these girls are well-trained. The salon itself is polished, approachable, and relaxing: the new layout is kinda industrial-inspired, but still feels homey. And you gotta love that the staff always offers water or espresso right when you arrive. They provide a nice selection of beauty and celeb gossip magazines, and are professional and respect my need to not always chat when I want to read fluff. If I want to chat, then they do so without seeming fake, which I appreciate and noticed. I believe they use Bumble and Bumble products at the sink and they smell amazing! Ive been going to Isalon for about 2 years now. I always see Sandra who has kept my straight black Asian hair looking SUPER CUTE!! I love having a touch of color and she has brought me from brown to purple to red to pink and now back to purple... Everyone in the Salon is SUPER FRIENDLY.. I am always greeted with a smile.. and they have like the BEST coffee ever.. LOL But I decided to write this review right now because I just came back to work from an EMERGENCY appointment with them. See, Im leaving for Hawaii tomorrow morning and there were parts of my hair that had blonde patches and it really wasnt cute.. So I called Isalon and gave them my story.. they moved things around and were able to squeeze me in.. Now Sandra is off today so I had Brenda touching up my color and then Betty washing it out for me. From Start to Finish, they were so nice about EVERYTHING! This is a late review, but long overdue. I really needed my hair done. I waited a long time to get it done because it is a little pricey but totally worth it. A huge shout out to Catherine, isalon is lucky to have you. You are phenomenal with hair. Like my previous review says, I have REALLY thick hair. Catherine took her time, and was firm on not wanting to kill my hair. I love a honest hair stylist. Customers are crazy and sometimes expect miracles. I wanted to go blonder with my hair and Catherine achieved that without damaging my hair. She was super friendly, talked to me the whole time and most importantly knows what she is doing. She gave me an excellent full highlight and haircut. The rest of the staff here is awesome as well. They offer coffee while you're waiting/getting your hair done. One of the girls even offered to run and get me food because I had been there awhile. That was super sweet. Isalon will continue getting my money. I went to iSalon for the first time yesterday. The last haircut I had was a year ago and I was in desperate need of a new stylist. I booked an appointment with Jordan because she had some good Yelp Reviews. When I walked in, Jordan was still finishing up with a client (I was about 15 minutes early) so the woman at the front desk offered me a drink. Great customer service! When she finished up, I went back to talk to Jordan. Let me just say, she is amazing! She asked me what kind of style I was looking for and was super helpful when I had no idea. She walked me through my options and really listened to my concerns (will it be easy? Will I be able to style it myself?). She asked a whole bunch of questions to make sure I was comfortable (was the water too hot? Was the heat from the hair dryer uncomfortable?) She was really friendly and I had a great time chatting while she did her thing. When she was finished, I was super happy with the result! My hair was soft and I have the cutest side-swept bangs. I went today to get my hair dyed PURPLE! What a blast! Everyone there is very friendly. The place is clean, airy and contemporary without being pretentious. First timer at this salon (and I don't do ratings/reviews but this is an exception) and honestly I can't put into words how happy I am for coming here. This review is for just Vanessa because she is THAT amazing. I came in with photos of the haircut that I want/like and asked Vanessa for her input. She spent 10 minutes or so just talking to me and laying out the style/cut that she thought was best for my facial structure and hair type. Just hearing what she had to say (and what I was thinking myself) I decided to trust her wholeheartedly with my hair. I was going from long hair to a really short hair cut (very big change) and wasn't sure how it would come out. But Vanessa took her time with me (which I REALLY appreciate bc not only did she show great customer service, it also showed that she is really caring). When she was done, I couldn't be any happier! I LOVE my cut and I DEFINITELY recommend this place. Although it was my first time, I'd have to say that everyone seemed very professional and good at what they do. I wasn't the only happy customer!! Let's start with the history of my hair before I came to iSalon. I am Japanese with full wavy hair. My previous hair cut was performed by a razor! It had grown out into a thin disheveled mess of uneven wispy split ends. I also had highlights that were pretty much mono-colored. My previous hair stylist did not listen to what I wanted and I was dissatisfied with my previous hair cut. Thus, I came into iSalon with a total mess of hair on my head. Desi was my stylist and consultant. She listened to my needs and explained to me what she could do for my hair. In the end of my 2.75 hour session which cost $128.00 (after a 20% discount for being a new customer), she fixed the mess. She spent the majority of the time fixing the terrible highlight that I had. She re-highlighted my hair in foils and died the rest of it my natural color (black). She spent the rest of the time cutting off the damaged ends of my hair. The service at iSalon is really good. They offered small bottled water, coffee, tea and candy. They had a lot of magazines to read. Also the staff was polite and professional. iSalon is very clean place. The staff was constantly sweeping the hair off the floor. Each of the stylist's hair stations were spotless. There was also plenty of room to sit before my appointment started (I was 5 minutes early). The hair wash stations were also really comfortable. Most of the staff is Asian, which is important to me when highlights are going to be performed on my hair. Desi understood that I wanted brown highlights, not orange highlights. Went to isalon yesterday for a color correction and was impressed by the time and effort that was put into fixing my disastrous hair. My hair stylist was Vanessa and she really took her time making sure my hair turned out beautifully. It was a long process, about 6 hours from arrival to finish, but she got the job done. I really loved that she was honest with me about what we could and could not do with my hair. Some stylist tend to tell you want you want to hear and can be a bit overconfident if they aren't as experienced. Vanessa was wonderful though and definitely knows what she's doing. It's a bit pricey, so thankfully I received the 20% off since it was my first visit to the salon. The original bill was over $300, but again that was for a color correction, which is and will always be expensive due to the amount of time and work that goes into those services. After moving from Oakland to Alameda, I have tried a couple of salons and stylists that were perfectly fine, I have settled on being a client of Diane's. She is confident and technically adept at working with my hair, but relaxed and enjoyable. Her hair style is manageable for me to take care of, as a full time working mom of two little ones, while still looking feminine and keeping my hair healthy! Okay, are you prepared for an extensive review? Here it goes! I had my haircut back in February at a place if you read my previous reviews that I was somewhat unhappy with my last cut. My bangs were short and my layers were uneven. Anyway enough with the complaining and on to the fabulous experience I had with Brenda. So I came super early because I just got off work and I just drove straight to the venue. I was afraid that there might be traffic on Park and parking would be a bitch to find. But I was lucky. I came in and was offered some water, magazines and a friggin ipad to pass time. How smart!!? Right?! I was looking at yelp and then Brenda was ready to give me a consolation. I wanted to keep my lengths and just do layering on my crown and a trim my bangs. She definitely gave me some nice tips on styling my hair and tailored some techniques she thought would be helpful for my type of hair and face shape. The haircut-- I am more that satisfied with the cut, I have smooth layers on my crown that blends perfectly with the rest of my hair/head. My bangs are smooth and has a nice side swept to it. She did not burn my hair with any of the heat styling products. She left my head sleek and smelling good. She didnt leave any excess styling products that left my hair oily. She didnt try to sell me any B.b. products. Everything about my hair was perfect. I couldn't any happy or pleased. The transitioning and the conversation-- She is such a natural. There weren't any forced laughter or she didn't try to hard to get to know me. Besides the fact that we had similar last names and we both grew up in the same area. She was so friendly without being too pushy. She is such a sweetheart. Her daughter came in that day, and she definitely gets her sweetness from her mom. Overall I am so pleased to find my new spot to cut my hair. I plan on coming here in August to get another haircut, maybe next time a little more daring. I keep on going safe. But I believe I can trust Brenda with any hairstyle. If you are looking a great stylist who please you with a haircut you like, give Brenda a try. I was definitely not hesitant when I walked in the door. I knew that I would be happy with my hair cut. Also she offered that when I come home and wash it and i didn't like it. I can come back in and she will do her best to fix it. Now that is something that shouldn't wait until someone writes you a bad review on yelp to do. You should always offer that! While visiting from Houston, TX I decided to get a hair cut, not only because I needed one but I was tired of my hair guy. I usually pay 15 with tip for just a hair cut no shampoo or massage. Got on Yelp to help me find a hair salon to change up the style at a reasonable cost. Looked up the cost for a few salons and everything in the city was ridiculously priced at around 65+. I chose iSalon because it was near my stay, and I am glad I did. I scheduled my appointment with Jordan. When I first walked in I was greeted and asked if I wanted anything to drink or an iPad to fiddle with. Since there was no wait I declined to both and was welcomed by Jordan. She took me to her area and sat me down to figure out what we were going to do with my hair. After figuring it out she cut and styled my hair, helped me pick hair products and suggested a shampoo and conditioner upon my request. There wasn't a single moment where she seemed agitated by my questions or hesitant to help. The hair cut after 20% off for first time customer was 38, add tip and that is a reasonable priced hair cut. This is where the fifth star comes in, everyone there was so kind and the receptionist(forgot her name sorry) went out of her way to make a list of places that I should see. I had told her I already had seen the usual tourist attractions so she listed her favorite spots and went online and found me other hot spots in the bay area. I really loved my experience here. My first salon in the Bay Area. I've been putting off finding one by cutting my own hair--womp womp. Betty shampooed me. Everyone loves getting a head massage and she was exceptionally good. We watched Iron Chef on TV together while I got washed. Totally bonded. Having rocked long locks for most of my life, I decided to go pretty short. I brought in a picture and Vanessa went from there. She was polite and a great conversationalist. She took her time in styling my hair without piling on too much product. My fear with going short was emulating the 90's Rachel cut that everyone and their mom had--but no, Vanessa's deft skill gave me a cut that opened up my face, gave my hair volume while still being relevant and easy to upkeep. The best part was paying. When I found out how inexpensive it was, I just replied "really?" I hope the front desk girl didn't think I thought it was too much. Because I would have paid double for my good experience and satisfaction. I hope Vanessa stays at this location for a while. I've adopted her as my new hair lady. I've been going to Brenda for my haircut and color for years now. It all started the first time I got my hair highlighted and she offered to do my highlights so that my roots wouldn't show as easily. This told me that she was looking out for me and not my money! The ladies at iSalon really do listen to their clients and they start every cut with a consultation regarding what you want. If you need advice, they'll offer it but are very honest with what or won't work. (Brenda jokingly refuses to give me a perm because of the damage it will cause my hair!) I was super nervous because I have the total "bad hair" package. Thick, course, and lots of it. Throw into the mix my complete lack of understanding for what types of styles work and don't work for my hair, face shape, etc. and you have a potential disaster in the making. So, in response to Sandra's question as to what I would like to do with my hair - she was left to work with "I don't know, you tell me. I just don't want something that makes me look old." I love, love, love this place. I come in practically bi-annually but Sandra and the girls always remember me and remember things we talked about eons ago. It makes me feel right at home. This time around I gave the new girl, Nicole, a shot. I was a little apprehensive sitting in an unfamiliar persons chair. But, when I saw that she wasn't intimidated by my hair (it's SUPER thick, curly, and unruly) I felt confident in her. We got to talking and we found out we're both racially mixed (no wonder she wasn't scared). Anyway, I wanted highlights but I wasn't sure of specifics. She was really patient and mixed something up and viola! Picture perfect, natural looking highlights! Then she blow dried and flat ironed my hair smooth as silk like it was nothing. I have a blow dryer and flat iron at home and it takes me 2 hours to do what she did in like 30 minutes and it still doesn't come out nearly as nice! I know whose chair I'm sitting in next time! My last haircut was about a year ago (eek!) and it was the best service I have ever received. It was so good that it cost my a paycheck (eek!) But I knew didn't want to go aahhh-LLLL the way to San Jose and I mos def didn't want to spend my paycheck. So I hit up Yelp and found iSalon. I made an appointment for the next day and was scheduled to see Nicole. I don't know about you, but my theory is, if the salon staff have awesome hair, then they have to give awesome haircuts. As soon as I walked through the door, I scoped out the ladies' hair and everyone was on point! Nicole finished up with her client on time (which is rare, right!) and it was only a few minutes after when she came over and introduced herself to me. I told her what I wanted, she listened, I asked for her opinion, and she gave me a few suggestions and options. She really made sure we were on the same page. And the end product was great. My hair went from long, flat, and boring to long (lol which is what I wanted to keep), layered, and light. GREAT JOB, Nicole! I'm definitely going back to get my Ombre on, which lucky for me, Nicole considers herself skilled in this coloring area :) Safe to say, I think I found my go-to salon. 3.5. High rating for the cleaniness and modern looks to the salon. But the price is completely over priced for an Alameda salon ($70 for root touch up!!!). And I agree that the head massage was wayyy too short. I think they need to lower the price if they want people to come back. We can only use the 1st time customer discount once. Oh the countless hair salons I've been to. The last thing anyone needs is a snobby hairstylist who cuts your hair half hazardly. I love isalon! I can count on Desi to make me happy. She always cuts and styles my hair the way I like it and is very personable and pleasant to be around. Plus you get an ipad to play with, and cocktails to sip on...how much better does it get?! read more

Jordan is a great stylist! She only does what you WANT her to do and she is very particular about making sure you are satisfied. She is also fun to talk to and very cheerful! Five stars! The staff was super friendly and I could tell that there was total teamwork here. The energy of the environment was great! The shop is very clean and smells wonderful. Been to this salon twice so far and been all around pleased with the customer service and the ability, skill and technique of the stylist I had: Betty ( sorry I did not catch her last name). Salon has an overall easy-going vibe in the gem of a city that is Alameda. ( can you tell i'm biased). Anyhow a few weeks ago I had an experience that made me not only appreciate my (getting better/ grown out from a traumatizing haircut) experience but warm and professional service as well. After a long day of off- the- hook crazy rain, I rushed in commute traffic to the haircut appointment I unrealistically scheduled. After getting lost on an unfamiliar route (twice) and even pulling over to call and apologize/cancel, I was assured by the receptionist that if I could get there in the next 15 minutes Betty could accomodate me. 20 minutes later.... I get there flustered and embarassed (hard too find parking too, had to settle for illegal Jack in the box parking, I was desperate). Ironic it's on "Park Street"... Betty took me anyways! She didnt have to, she had a client after. As a person who's been in the spa industry for four years I really appreciated this and I still got a thorough consultation, scalp massage with shampoo and a great haircut! And i'm still happy with my haircut a month later. Thanks Betty and iSalon! read more

Had my hair coloured today by Jesse and it turned out amazing! The best ombré I have ever had done. Jesse is so friendly and down to earth and listens to your ideas and gives her expert opinion to help match those ideas! She definitely is the queen of ombré and would definitely recommend her to anyone. She is thorough, takes her time and treats you like a star! Perfect 10 out of 10 and definitely coming back! read more

After giving birth to my son I needed a major hair makeover so I searched on yelp for the best place to go and i found iSalon! yay! They offered 20 percent off for new clients so I went ahead and made an appointment and I got Desi. Oh was she a sweetheart. She looked like my sisters best friend too. I asked her for her opinon on what hair color I should get and she gave me a great consultation. We were planning on doing purple black and red in my hair but I didnt have enough money so she went ahead and did the peek a boo highlgihts for me. Then she layered my hair. It came out fabolous! Also while waiting for my hair to finish she offered food and water and also to check my meter for me! This place is the best ever! read more
