Been to this salon twice so far and been all around pleased with the customer service and the ability, skill and technique of the stylist I had: Betty ( sorry I did not catch her last name). Salon has an overall easy-going vibe in the gem of a city that is Alameda. ( can you tell i'm biased). Anyhow a few weeks ago I had an experience that made me not only appreciate my (getting better/ grown out from a traumatizing haircut) experience but warm and professional service as well. After a long day of off- the- hook crazy rain, I rushed in commute traffic to the haircut appointment I unrealistically scheduled. After getting lost on an unfamiliar route (twice) and even pulling over to call and apologize/cancel, I was assured by the receptionist that if I could get there in the next 15 minutes Betty could accomodate me. 20 minutes later.... I get there flustered and embarassed (hard too find parking too, had to settle for illegal Jack in the box parking, I was desperate). Ironic it's on "Park Street"... Betty took me anyways! She didnt have to, she had a client after. As a person who's been in the spa industry for four years I really appreciated this and I still got a thorough consultation, scalp massage with shampoo and a great haircut! Jesse is so friendly and down to earth and listens to your ideas and gives her expert opinion to help match those ideas! After giving birth to my son I needed a major hair makeover so I searched on yelp for the best place to go and i found iSalon! yay! They offered 20 percent off for new clients so I went ahead and made an appointment and I got Desi. Oh was she a sweetheart. She looked like my sisters best friend too. I asked her for her opinon on what hair color I should get and she gave me a great consultation. I really like this new salon and I am really glad that I found out about this place through Yelp. I made a last minute appointment and I was booked with Kathy. I was able to make an appointment at 6pm, right after work. Putting your hair into the hands of a perfect stranger can be a bit daunting, but Kathy is very kind and communicative. The big plus is that she gets my Asian hair. She worked really hard to make me happy and now I have a very flattering haircut that gets complements! I got the 20% off first visit but the regular price is also very reasonable, so I tipped extra. I will definitely be going back! I decided on a whim to take my red hair blond which I did not realize was way complicated. Linda did a great consultation and set my expectations up very realistically (that this would be hard). Words can't explain how happy I am, after my visit at isalon today. Brenda was my stylist for the day. It's my first time having Brenda cut my hair. And she amazing at what she do. It had been a long time since I got my hair cut and I was ready to do something new and extreme (I cut away a foot of my hair). I wanted to make sure I go to a salon who would give me good advice about what to do and do it right. I came across iSalon on Yelp because it is currently the top rated salon in Alameda. I like how they have online reservations, but I didn't take advantage of it because I figured business would be slow on a Thursday morning (I was right). Upon entrance, the salon looks very modern and clean. I was greeted by all the stylists and was already discussing hair style ideas in just a few minutes! I had no preference of stylists, so I was sent over to Tracey. She took the time to explain how she would cut my hair and what would look best for my face shape, which I appreciate extremely. When you go to other ho-hum salons (i.e. SuperCuts and Great Clips), you tell them what you're thinking about and they just say "okay" even though in their minds they probably know how hideous you're going to look when you're done. Tracey took her time to make sure every hair was cut properly and in place and I would have the best hair possible. After years of going to the same place and regretting it afterwards (don't ask) I finally found my go-to salon! I explained to Desi the look and cut I was going for and she gave me exactly what I wanted :) She was a bit perplexed when I first explained the cut I wanted, but I don't blame her I was confusing myself lol. As I found out this Salon just recently moved to a new location (never visited the previous one): now it's on Blanding Ave: a lot more convenient than Park street to me: plenty of free parking. The people there were so friendly and nice, not like other top scale salon.I receive the service from a gal named Tracey. She listens to what I wanted and it came out exactly what I had asked for. My fiancé bought me a gift certificate to this salon after hearing me complain about how hard it has been to find a decent place for a regular haircut. Getting to the salon from oakland was easy and they have a parking lot which was very convenient. It was also easy to call in and make an appointment. I was scheduled to see Diane. She is new to the salon but I have a feeling she will work out there well! I got a few inches cut off and some layers cleaned up. She worked efficiently and was very detailed. She also gave a wonderful blow out and was fun to chat with. They lose 1 star on this visit because the gift card did not have the right amount on it and I had to call my fiancé and have him look up the details on when he bought it to help them find it in their system. So, throughout my whole life, I have never really been one for hair appointments. Never really cared that much, and always wrote it off. Recently, however, I've decided to care a bit more. I had a burst of "OMG I should get my hair done!" last Sunday, so I did a search online and decided to try out iSalon. Anyway, my hair was crazy unhealthy and needed some color...when I got there, I was introduced to Lynn. We chatted a bit, picked out a shade that looked good, and then figured out how much she was going to take off. I really did not want to lose any length, but figured that I actually needed to take off good deal. So I resigned myself to being disappointed. Boy was I surprised!! Not only was the color PERFECT, but Lynn's expertise was FLAWLESS. My hair is a length that I love now, and looks wonderfully healthy. Very happy with my hair cut from Sandra! She really listened to my request and did a great job with styling my hair. I was her last client of the day as she squeezed me in. Even for being the last person of the day, she took the time to give me a relaxing shampoo and conditioning. Next she began to cut my hair and then blow dried it and styled it, using products. Sneaking a peak at hair products, I noticed they use Pureology which is a really nice brand - you don't see it too often in other salons around Alameda. To be fair, I should be honest about the fact that I have never gone to the same stylist twice, and the most I'd paid for a haircut is $18, so I don't have much to compare iSalon to. That being said, this salon really is something special. The first time I came I was in Alameda and desperately needed a bang trim. I called and was in Jessica's chair in less than 20 minutes. She finally (!) got my bangs to do what I've wanted for last year. So of course I had to go back for my cut. Jessica's schedule is a little packed during the weekend, but totally worth the wait. She's cute, fun, and definitely pays attention to what I want and lets me know what will work for me. Plus she took the time to really finish and style my hair, which is tough since my hair is super long. I was in town for the weekend and needed a haircut (too many split ends)... I yelped and this place popped up. I made an appointment the night before, got a confirmation morning of and went to the appointment. The online appointment system was super convenient which was great! Nicole was very nice and made sure I was comfortable during the entire process. She always asked to make sure I liked how the haircut was going. I wasn't sure how great it would look before she blow dried my hair... but after it was all done, it was GREAT! A guy's perspective... Traditionally, I've not been known to really care too much about my haircut. I've recently come to like a particular style I was after and decided it was time for a change. I live in Alameda and wanted a place close by and somewhere that I could really like to come back to. My impressions with iSalon were incredibly positive. I had an appointment with Tracey, but she was running late and called to see if I'd like to keep the time with a different stylist, or come a bit later. I had an unusually busy weekend so I decided to keep the same time but Brenda would be cutting my hair. I'm big on communication, so the fact that they called in advance to give me choice of what to do is a huge plus. Brenda was great. I talked to her about what I wanted specifically since I knew what direction I wanted to go. She had a ton of experience, very personable, and asks great questions to find out what it is you are going for. This place ended up being exactly what I was looking for. The salon itself is very clean, great lighting, and designed nicely. Why does this matter? Well, to at least this guy, it's part of the package. A place should be warm and inviting to make a customer come back. If an interior is gaudy and dated would you want to have those people styling your hair? Most likely not... so needless to say the salon itself is a great space. This may be a guy thing, but I don't think so. I will definitely be bringing my wife in to have her hair colored and styled at iSalon, after a less than stellar experience in San Francisco. First off, I have been using Yelp for a long time now and have never been so inspired to write a review. My experience at iSalon was fantastic! I came to iSalon on a friend's referral, and I am so thankful I made an appointment!! Brenda, the owner of iSalon, gave me the best haircut I've had in 7 years, and please believe, I've had my hair cut in different states and countries during this time and NONE have been as good as Brenda's.. I am picky picky picky about my haircuts! First impressions: When I walked in I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and chic her salon is. She greeted me warmly and made me feel at home. Brenda was a sweetheart through the whole appointment, you can tell she genuinely cares about giving you a great experience at her salon. She started by washing and conditioning my hair, it was so relaxing. Haircut: I have typical long, straight, THICK Asian hair, so I need a lot of layers to thin it out to make it look soft and light. Sooo many hairstylists have not been able to layer my hair properly, but Brenda did! I told exactly what I wanted -- lots of layers at the back, taper my hair towards the midline, clean up and shape my bangs, taper the hair line in front -- and she listened! She knew exactly what to do and didn't go over the top. At the end she styled and straightened my hair and made it look perfect. I got soooo many looks and complements on my hair after, it was so satisfying! Price: Very very reasonable in my experience. Plus on your first haircut you get 20% off. iSalon also has a policy where if you're not satisfied with your haircut you can come back within 7 days to get a touch up. In addition to the haircut, I bought a professional ceramic hair straightener from Brenda along with a protective straightening balm cuz when she straightened my hair with it, it actually worked!! I'd given up on hair straighteners years ago because they never worked on my thick, almost wiry, hair. Never did a thing to straighten my hair, I'd always be disappointed. Thankfully, not anymore! When I straightened my hair I was so thrilled that it sat straight and stayed straight ALL day long.. Plus, Brenda gave me a further discount off the straightener, so that was icing on the cake! I'm new to the area and decided to check out this Salon based on a AMAZING haircut I saw. When I got there the were on time and asked me if I wanted a drink and instantly gave me an IPAD to play with. When I sat down I told the lady I wanted Blonde highlights and a basic trim. So far so good right?!? WRONG. After washing my hair she styles me away from the mirror and thinking nothing of it she turned me around and It look good from part she parted it. When I got home my husband had made a comment about how stripy my hair looked. Confused, I went into the bathroom and started parting my hair and was HORRIFIED with how it turned out. I looked like a striped mess. Funny thing is though that it was perfectly fine where she had parted my hair. I guess that' why she styled my hair AWAY from the mirror. I immediately called them back and told them how disappointed I was with my color and they told me that I could come in again and get it fixed up. After months of research, I decided to come to i Salon. It had been ages since I stepped into a salon, so I wasn't going to make a decision lightly. So, with the help of Yelp, I made an appointment with Nicole, and let me tell you, I will be making more with her. When I first walked in there, I needed change for the stupid meters and instead they just gave me meter money (awesome!). They offered me tea (the kid next to me was offered a movie on an ipad) and were all completely friendly with me and with one another. Nicole did an amazing job with coloring, cutting, and adding a panel of color. I was really teetering between colors, but she was extremely patient with me and gave me her professional opinion throughout the whole process. She even asked to curl my hair when it was all said and done just so I really felt like my hair was done. On her first visit ever, she had been so nervous that she couldn't stop twisting her long locks around her fingers. Tracey was patient and sweet, explaining to the nervous girl exactly what she was doing and what products she was putting into the girl's hair. The girl walked away from the super-chic, modern and clean salon with a beautiful A-line cut and a bright smile on her face. Several visits later, and the girl is hooked. She is slowly building up points to put towards her $25 gift card (every dollar is worth a point and once you reach 500 points -- voila, giftcard!) and has a smile on her face every time she comes back. She's had her hair cut by both Tracey and Sandra and has been extremely pleased every time -- she's even got the boy coming here and he's never had any complaints about Tracey or Brenda (the stylists who have seen to his hair) -- and the boy is a little finicky about his hair! ("It's the only thing we have! Girls can style up everything, and all we guys have are our hair. Let us have our hair!") With the convenient online booking abilities and having the option to call ahead or just walk-in, it makes getting a haircut super stress-free -- something any woman can find to be soothing. I arrived on time and only had to wait 5-10 minutes which was fine because I got to pick out some magazines from their extensive selection. I REALLY love the color, and she did a good job of not getting it all over my face, but the cut, not so much. I have long hair and what I've always thought was a pretty easy style but maybe not. I got sooooo spoiled here! My sister is a regular here and was raving about them two weeks ago. I really needed to get my hair colored (I'm getting gray at the age of 26) and I needed a new look. Without anything done to my hair, it is frizzy, thick, wavy and I have a lot of it. With my sister's advice, I was convinced to make a visit with her to iSalon. Desi, my sister's stylist, was so sweet. I had her as my stylist on this visit. As soon as I stepped in the salon, I was offered a water, or coffee, or tea, or martini, or beer... ??? To a salon virgin, this was amazing. They don't offer that kind of stuff at Supercuts! Desi asked me what color I wanted... Good question. My natural hair color is an ash brown with lots of blonde thrown it... so most of the time it looks like a really nasty greenish brown. YUCK! I've tried red before... I've tried brown before. I even attempted to box dye my hair blonde! HA! I wanted something reddish... but with a little golden so my hair sparkled. That's just what Desi did! After my hair was colored and my apple martini was consumed (YUM!), we decided to look at some magazines and decide on a haircut. I chose something that incorporated layers (which I love) but wouldn't make me look like I had dog ears. The style I chose had dome chunk and bangs! After the haircut and color, I am thrilled! The end result was more expensive than I could afford on a regular basis, but I am happy with they way it looks on me and the way is accents and frames my face... and I have gotten nothing but compliments from co-workers today! I got my hair ombred by Lyn last year. But she no longer is there. A year later, today l came in for a color n wanted slite differ Jessie did mines n sisters hair she has that amazing touch on the exact color u want. She knows what is doing I might have to say she is the guru of hair color. She got my hair so blond. I thought it would be impossible without it falling off or damaging it, but i didnt want it to be so blonde so she toned it down and it came out so pretty with the temporary ash grey that I love.
