I don't like to post mediocre reviews of restaurants, but I think in the case of Isabel's Amor a little more effort can greatly elevate the quality of food. I was slightly disappointed by this restaurant because I found the food left much to be desired. Our choices of appetizers were nachos and a cheese crisp. Instead of a typical nacho plate with dozens of chips and toppings spread randomly across the chips, our nacho plate had eight tortilla chips with the toppings (refried beans, cheese, tomato) placed on each chip individually. While I think the idea was to produce a less messy, more shareable plate of nachos, we were not fans of how few tortilla chips we received. Also, it seemed like something was missing from the nachos, whether it be salsa, guacamole, or a meat topping that adds extra flavor. I had a power bowl with carnitas as my entrée. The carnitas was well-seasoned and had a good texture, while the remaining ingredients were a bit bland. The bowl definitely could have used some salsa or cilantro. Overall, I got the impression that this restaurant focuses the majority of its attention on preparing tasty meats. For instance, other yelp reviewers who added meat to their nachos seemed to enjoy the nachos more than we did. Aside from the meats, I think some extra seasoning and ingredients would improve the dishes. read more

Been driving past this place for years and I always say "I need to go there some time". Today was the day! We stopped in for happy hour and got the cheese crisp, street corn and frijoles de amor (a fancy bean dip) and two frozen margaritas ($27). Everything was SO good and there salsa served with the chips is very spicy and delish! Also, the bartenders were attentive and friendly. Was really excited for the food and the menu looked great, but was quite disappointed, especially considering the price. Food was lacking in flavor and was really let down by the fajitas. Margs were the highlight. Restaurant and patio is cute, but the service was also a let down. Started off slow and then after our waitress dropped off the check, she did not return for 25+ minutes, despite making eye contact while she was at another table. She even walked right past us to seat another table and continued walking inside, not even batting an eye in our direction at this point. Another server noticed and was able to cash us out. Enchilada Plano! Had a nice dinner with a friend. We both ordered the Enchiladas. I think it was one chicken and one shrimp. It's a nice restaurant, very clean and great service. We had an appetizer that was line an open quesadilla, it was ok. The enchiladas was also ok. I think they have some very good food but the enchiladas were very plain, and nothing special. I'm not going to say it's a repeatable restaurant but I'll try it again someday just to see if they can do anything special. Give it a try, it might be good. read more

This is one of our go-to restaurants for date night. We went there last night for AZ Restaurant Week and were impressed by the options. Bree greeted us and provided great service throughout. She started my wife with the coconut Mojito while I opted for the guava Margarita. Both were great along side the tortilla chips and the smoky salsa. For an appetizer, I had the mango shrimp ceviche which was amazing in flavor and a generous portion. My wife had the shredded beef flautas which she shared with me. These were the best I've ever had! For mains we both had the El Pastor tacos. The plate came with seasoned rice and your choice of beans. This offering also came with an awesome green sauce and charred pineapple. We finished by sharing the strawberry churros and the sopapillas. Both were an amazing finish to a wonderful dining experience. read more

I give very few five stars but after thinking about this a lot, I have to give it to Isabel's. This might just be my favorite restaurant right now. First, as always, the service. It's phenomenal. Every single person is friendly, everyone loves the food and they are always really attentive. Need a recommendation? They got 3. Need a drink? It'll be there in two minutes. This isn't even a one off, I've been here 3-4 times now and it's always like this. This is what a restaurant should operate like. The atmosphere - this place is dang cute man. When it gets dark and they have the little candles lit on your table, it is super cozy. The bar is also very cool, it's like a hotel bar and a beach front shack combined (in a good way, that was a terrible analogy). I've only sat outside once so I can't say much but it was lovely out there too. Fully covered might I add, no sun ruining your skin. Lastly, the food. Holy crap, the food ladies and gentlemen. Everything is fantastic. Literally the best Elote dip I've ever had anywhere. I don't even like it but my wife is a little obsessed. They even use Cotija cheese! What's up with all these places using Mexican blend crap... They have the fanciest, most well prepared enchiladas I've had. The refried beans are like candy, their rice tastes like real fresh rice (I'm looking at you Filibertos with your bagged Spanish rice). Every single thing I've had there is equally as good. I usually go somewhere and I got one thing I like and I stick with it. At Isabel's, I get something different every time and it always impresses. My wife loves the enchiladas but I honestly can't even pick any one thing. The bar is awesome too. Multiple kinds of margaritas and they're all delicious. I love the strawberry margarita, it almost feels like a soda, so sippable and refreshing. Their bar is a full bar too so anything you could want, outside even just their drink menu. Overall, I love this place. I've never had a bad experience, meal, service, nothing. I waited an hour once and didn't even care because I just wanted a dang good Chimichanga. Give this place a shot, I'd be shocked if you regretted it. read more

The staff was super nice, accommodating, and offered some great suggestions on what to order for our first time there. The borracho beans are a must, the flavor, level of spice..so good. Isabel's Amor is a really wonderful mexican kitchen that has great seating, ambience, service, and food. I have never been disappointed in coming to this nice sit down eatery. The staff is very attentive, efficient and pleasant. The food is surprisingly fresh and innovative without being stupidly odd (no french truffle bagets filled with oyster glaze and picante over carne asada with rare mini corn waffers). Just good , stylish mexican food entrées that are fresh, and taste great. I have tried their amazing tacos, their excellent carne asada, chimichangas, and loved their amazing protein bowls (really excellent). The food never disappoints, and the stagf seems to be helpful everytime I visit. The area, seating and facility is really nice. It's a genuine date destination, lunch meeting spot or family gathering spot. The prices are a bit higher than chain mexican food sit-down restaurants, so you will want to consider that if you are on a tight budget. The only negative I have encountered at this restaurant is that the last few visits I have seen the occasional fly buzzing around the inside seating tables. This is an important thing for them to fix. That said, and assuming they take care of that one issue, I will definitely be back. read more

Visited this place for a work dinner. The margaritas tasted like there was no alcohol in them at all and after reading the reviews I understand why. The cheese crisp and the mini chimis appetizers on the happy hour menu were both good but nothing to write home about. The combo plate was disappointing too say the least. The crispy shredded beef taco tasted oily but was still better than the beef enchilada. I could only eat a few bites of the enchilada because it was dry and even the sauce didn't help. read more

This place is awesome! The salsa is HOT and so good with red pepper flakes! The chips are warm and fresh right out of the kitchen. I had a shredded beef taco and a red tamale. The taco was on point! Full of shredded beef cheese and lettuce with a radish, YUM! The tamale was just ok flavor but stuffed with the shredded beef. Next time I will skip the tamale and go with two tacos. On the side I had refried beans (perfect) and Baraccho beans (spicy and danced on my tastebuds). My son got the carnitas plate and after a bite I was so jealous. It was tender and crispy at the same time. Definitely a must try! And the hot and huge flour tortilla taste homemade, probably is. The service was excellent! Our server Blake catered to our every need and there were a couple of others that stopped by to check on us too. The music was fun. Contemporary songs in Spanish. I had to point out to my husband that the song playing was our wedding song but in Spanish. There is a gorgeous patio that wraps around the dining room with HUGE glass windows separating the two. The plates are a bit on the pricy side like $15 to $20 but it's quality so no broken hearts about that. Have you had a craving for good Mexican food? I have been going to several restaurants in pursuit of good Mexican food, and I stumbled upon Isabel's Amor on a Sunday afternoon. The service was so - so, but I had a bowl of their red pozole and this was one of the better pozole dishes I have ever had. The pork was tender and full of flavor. Some of the best Mexican food I've had....and I'm from Southern California. ( no offense) but.... So my go to is always the carnitas plate. The carnitas is the best I've had. Moist and crispy at the same time the way carnitas should be. The rice is good, light and fluffy and oh my oh my the best refried beans too! My bestie and i wanted to try a new place on Sunday and felt since the reviews were good that the food would be but unfortunately we were disappointed. The worse part is it was my birthday and the meal we ordered was not good. We both ordered Pescado de La parrilla and the fish was a brownish color and overcooked. We had a party of 8 and had to wait outside for about an hour before being seated. It was a busy Saturday night following Thanksgiving and they don't take reservations so, we waited. They have heaters out front but we were told they wouldn't turn them on before December, it was a chilly 56°. Once we were inside, our server was Bri and she did a terrific job. Everyone enjoyed chips and salsa before our food arrived and when we received our orders everything was perfect. We were seated in the back where they had open garage doors (again we were cold but they did turn on a heater on the patio). The ambiance was definitely family style dining. I "attended" a family gathering of 25 relatives for dinner here and was impressed with the service and menu selections here. I had the Famous Carnitas, Rice and Borracho Beans. The carnitas were a slightly drier preparation than I'm used to, but had excellent flavor. The beans definitely had a little more octane than typical refried beans. The $18 entree price for Mexican food seemed elevated, but I suspect the elevated ambience and stellar service may have been the reasoning for their pricing. And carnitas do seem to be the restaurant's signature food. Would I return? I probably would, but there're so many good Mexican dining options that it might be a while before I return. read more

Was so excited to see the new tequila bar addition to one of our favorite little spots. Arrived Sunday afternoon at 130 and sat at the bar since there was a brief wait in the restaurant. The additional bar is large and awesome. Lengthy post: That was the best part of our visit. We knew exactly what we wanted since we've been here so many times before. There were 2 female bartenders, a blonde who served us and a brunette. I wish I could give a name but it was never shared by the blonde who took our order. We wanted to start with a cheese crisp and we chose the pick 2 combo. Our clean napkin still had beans stuck to it, per the server. How does someone roll silverware in a dirty crusty napkin? Our server answered her phone and then told us that she had to pick up or her kid would blow up her phone. I have kids, I get it, but you are at work. She proceeded to make herself a drink, go to the bathroom with her phone and purse and stand in the kitchen eating. All while the brunette refilled our empty water and was busting her butt changing out a keg, serving the entire bar and making cocktails for the staff on the floor. She even brought us our meals. But when we asked where the cheese crisp was, she was surly and I asked to her to remove from the bill. Our server either forgot to enter because she was so distracted in her own world or it was missed by the kitchen. If she would have said hi or checked in with us she would have figured that out. Extremely disappointing when we've always had amazing service and experience at Isabels. I know everyone has staffing challenges but the other server could have been alone and rocked the bar alone. The service was horrible and the food was a bit disappointing, seems recipes changed or something. Not sure we will return. We have better restaurants closer to us in Queen Creek. read more

Cute little restaurant with a snazzy, fun tequila bar, in a Gilbert strip mall. The service was good, the food was good, and the atmosphere was loud, but not "sports bar" loud. The chips were really delicious, and the salsa tasted and was textured more like a spiced-up enchilada sauce, but I still thought it was pretty darned good! The Beef Chile Verde was not appetizing to look at, with a very bile-brown color, and was difficult to discern from beans. The meat was scant, but the flavor was okay. I wouldn't order it again. The steak fajitas were fresh, tender, and sizzling. Great marinade on the steak and delightful accompaniments. I do wish they served more than one tortilla with a meal, though; seems quite chintzy. The churros were perfection - lightly fried, good balance of sugar, and the chocolate dipping sauce was perfect. I might hit this spot again for a Mango Margarita (super yummy) and appetizer if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to have a meal there. read more

Took my wife for her birthday dinner last night. We've been in the past but this experience was a lot better than I remember it. We were seated right away on the outdoor patio. The live music was a nice touch. Our server Tucker was very respectful and kind. Not sure what their well tequila is but we both got Prickly Pear Margaritas and they were very good.
