Great place to stop in for a quick tea or a delicious breakfast sandwich when you're exploring Salem. Lots of people set up working on their computers and lots of options of treats and snacks to choose from. It may have just been the day I decided to stop in, but once I opened that door there was a strong smell of smoke or cigarettes compared to the outside or else I would have eaten my sandwich there instead of taking it to go.

I enjoy going to Isaac's to work or even just chill with friends! They have coffee, wine, cider, and more for drinks! A little something for everyone! This week I was there around lunch time and enjoyed their ham and cheddar sandwich, that comes with chips, for about $10 is a good deal! It was also very tasty and I would definitely get again! The service is good, since they're frequently busy you have to order at the counter but it works out! Would definitely recommend, keep in mind they will be busy and for good reason from morning to mid-afternoon.

On our Oregon road trip this year, Salem was about a halfway point of driving so we decided to stop here for lunch. It was a really rainy day so we mostly just saw the city in the car. Downtown they had free garages so we chose one to check out a nearby game store and decided on this place for lunch. It was a popular place! We were here on a weekday lunch and the crowd looked professional, thanks to it being nearby the Capitol. They had coffee, light food and snacks, and a few local beer selections. I had a wonderful curry chicken sandwich and an IPA; we all tried different things and all happy with our choices. The cafe has high ceilings, cozy lighting, and plenty of seating for singles or groups. There's also an overflow room to the right side. You order at the main counter and get a number, then they bring your food and bus the tables as you go.

Rain or shine Isaac's is always the place to be. I like taking a break from my book to watch the hustle and bustle of the staff, who are always so friendly to me. I've enjoyed every drink and every pastry I've gotten from here, my favorite is the carrot cake cupcake which is surprisingly merciful to my walnut allergy. Every time I'm here I run into someone I know, so I'm guessing this must be the place.

I made a reservation the night before and just walked in, thank god I made the reservation because there was a line out the door! They have expanded seating for sit down where you order off the QR code. Such a nice rustic place, the tall ceilings made it very inviting. We got 3 bagels, the farmhouse, greenhouse, and a Bronx. They were all so tasty, though they needed WAY more cream cheese! The ingredients were delicious and the sandwiches were beautifully constructed. Only takeaway.... MORE CREAM CHEESE!! Definitely a go to spot for a good coffee and bagel sandwich. And they still have peppermint in February?! That's a win for me.

Second coffee of the day and office for a couple of hours, I was here with a *perfect* cortado. Yes, absolutely perfect. If you're not drinking cortado, you need to order one next time. My family was rude and didn't give the host the time of day and just sat down !! Anyways I had the best CINNAMON ROOL on the planet the dough .... it was like perfectly baked and not hard at all on the outside or crusty and it was just so so good!! And the icing was dripping and just I can't get over how good it is 10,000% I need to learn how to make it like that The bowl was hearty and a good meal if you're really hungry and need that protein to wake you the f**** up and the tomatoes were a nice touch and the MOCHA had cinamon just how I like and it was sweet and delicious way better than starbu****

This is one of my favorite places! The wine selection is good, a little for every pallet. The food is freshly made and delicious. I have tried about half the sandwiches and haven't hated any so far. Their pastries are always fresh and moist. You really can't go wrong. The service is quick and friendly. They are able to give you suggestions that really help. The inside seating is coffee bar feel and very relaxing. Great location to just hang out with friends over wine, coffee and food.

I have so many good things to say about Isaac's. I ordered breakfast for a training event. The food was delicious, fresh and on time for pickup. Stumbled on this place while staying in Salem during OSU Family Weekend. Although it was quite busy when we arrived, our food was prepared quite quickly. Our coffee drinks were a different story though. Rather than delivering them to our table as our food was, they shouted our name from the bar to alert us that our drinks were ready. When we arrived at the bar, there were 5-7 drinks waiting to be picked up, but the barista could not tell us which two were ours. Thankfully, we guessed correctly. 3.75 stars. Overall, I like this place although I found it just a wee bit pretentious. The bagels are amazing, the service felt slightly unwelcoming (at least for a first time visitor), and the space is really pretty. I'd definitely give it another go. The bagels themselves had good texture, the sandwich fillings were delicious, and the accompanying flavored coffee was a winner. I'll note it was quite busy on my visit so that likely contributed to my experience. read more

Stopped here with my sister for a quick snack on our way to Portland and we were very happy with our decision. The food was surprisingly really good and fresh. I got a bagel sandwich and another one to go, both were so so delicious. The interior is very beautiful and clean, sort of stands out from what's expected of the rest of the town.. Yikes. Although this place is aesthetically pleasing inside- I can't say the same about the service or food. There were three staff standing at the counter when I walked in, no one looked up from their personal conversation and even when I approached the counter they continued their conversation without acknowledging a customer. It takes very little effort to say "good morning, I'll be right with you". I then witnessed the staff be repeatedly snarky to several paying customers who asked for the bathroom code. If you like your bland avocado toast and shitty coffee with an extra side of attitude and poor customer- Isaac's is your place!! read more

Great local coffee shop. This time I got the Farmhouse sandwich. It was great. The sandwich has a hint of sweetness from the honey that complements the salt/ herb bagel. The brown butter cardamom latte was fantastic warm- would highly recommend. I have had the pumpkin spice in the past but I didn't love it but could have just been a personal flaw of mine :) The dirty chai is also fantastic. Great place to hangout / work/ study- highly recommend. read more

Open space with kind, cheerful, and attentive staff. Overhead music was not blaring so I didn't have to wear headphones. Lots of light and wood. Chairs hard and a bit uninviting. Prices comparable to elsewhere and I didn't use the bathroom but it all seemed clean. Nothing super special as the bagels and coffee were bagels and coffee, however, I feel like this is my new favorite Salem coffeehouse simply because the vibe is tight on! Isaac's is a pretty perfect spot, any time of day. The interior is gorgeous (I'm obsessed with exposed brick), the staff are friendly and great at their jobs, and the food and drinks here are unbeatable. Soooooo good! Good gewd! When trying a new coffee spot, I always go to the basics, a vanilla latte please. They had a few sugar free options, limited non-dairy choices, I was a little sad they didn't have soy milk. However, sugar free vanilla latte with almond milk and it was GOOD. They were out of bagels when I came, but I gotta imagine it would've been a solid bagel lol. The interior was very cozy and minimalistic. If I needed to catch up on my online work or just needed a nook to read the space gave a welcoming vibe to all. It's right downtown, so some bomb coffee + walking around = a great day. Cute, but super bougie. I actually ordered what I thought was a yummy sandwich, but turned out to be fancy avocado toast. Tasted good, but impossible to eat without looking like a fool. Coffee was great. The whole atmosphere is stereotypical hipster (but not in a bad way). Probably a good place to meet friends for coffee; won't personally be going back for breakfast or meals though. read more

The vibe is super comfortable and positive. The staff is really nice and helpful. We stopped in two mornings in a row to grab coffees, breakfast sandwiches, and lunch salads to go. They made the food really reasonably quickly, which was amazing. They accommodated a couple substitutions for my husband due to allergies, although he had to check and ask both mornings for the substituted ingredient to actually be added. The coffee could've been stronger, but it was really very good. The breakfast sandwiches are delightful, and the salads are yummy, especially the chicken curry with greens. We enjoyed and will surely be back next time we are in town! read more

TL;DR: Five stars isn't enough. A fantasy world couldn't write a better coffee shop. Small, cozy, great staff, amazing coffee and delicious food. I have such a soft spot for small, local coffee shops. I DREAM of this spot whenever I leave Salem. Once we live in a safe world again, this is an amazing place to hang out with friends or do some work. It's homey and friendly and comfy. The vibe is exactly what you dream of for a coffee shop. The staff are all amazing. They are handling COVID beautifully and are always incredibly friendly. The coffee is SO SO GOOD. You can buy fresh ground bags if you want. I get a hot caramel or an iced latte. Both are so good. Not bitter like Starbs or too sugary like other chains. And I LOVE their breakfast sandwiches. My favorite breakfast for sure. read more

This place is BEAUTIFUL! The toast is delicious! I came here to get a good walking snack and noticed they made avocado toast- let me tell ya, the best I've had! The bread is homemade and everything is fresh. I could not believe how pretty my food look and how good it was too! I even shared a slice with my friend and they were super into it too. The service was great and friendly. The inside was charming and super cool to be standing inside. I loved the whole experience. I can't wait to go back and have coffee with breakfast. My wife and I have breakfast at Isaac's every Monday morning. She drinks coffee and I do not, she gets a large latte and I get a large hot chocolate. My wife as told me, that the coffee is some of the best coffee she drinks and I have say the hot chocolate is amazing. The breakfast food is always freshly made, and is just amazing. The staff are very cool people always chatting it up with the customers, and just making you feel welcome. The owner she is very cool, and extremely helpful and nice. I wish that more and more places like this were around. read more

Holy cow! Love this fricken place. I have discovered my new coffee hang out spot. Lovely atmosphere, service is fabulous and the owners are salt of the earth kinda people. Highly recommended. They have a breakfast sandwich called on your mark that is highly recommended. Their quiche is fantastic. And their tomato Gorgonzola soup is so delicious. Highly recommended read more

Specialties

Isaac's is the second location of Isaac's Room which also runs the IKE Box. At Isaac's we have added a breakfast and lunch menu as well as dessert, wine and beer. We still serve delicious Sisters Coffee, and Metolius Tea.

History

Established in 2018.

Isaac's is an expansion of the non profit Isaac's Room. We have run the IKE Box coffee shop for 15 years now. Isaac's has its own kitchen and bakery,l and the coffee shop serves as a "grad school" experience for the young people that we train at the IKE Box.

Meet the Business Owner: Tiffany B.

Mark and I founded Isaac's Room almost 20 years ago. For 15 years we have had the social enterprise IKE Box that has served coffee and light food to the east side of downtown. For about 5 years we have been looking to expand our program for divested youth as well as expand our brand on the other side of downtown. We pride ourselves in providing very quality products with excellent hospitality all for a great cause!

The miso Moon coffee thankfully did not taste like miso, lol. My friend had an espresso and said it was terrible, very sour. Everyone else at our table seemed to enjoy our food, there were a lot of burgers and fries being ordered at the group. They have my daughter's favorite sort of salad, with blue cheese and steak. Sadly, they were out of salmon the day we visited. Would definitely consider coming back if I'm in Salem again.

This is my favorite coffee place in town and their baked goods are heavenly. I recommend the blueberry lemon scones, breakfast burritos, peanut butter bar and their smoothies! Their coffee is incredible, the staff are so sweet and always make me feel welcome when I stop in. Good food, but the owner is a bit unsavory. I've seen her ask lesbian patrons to leave the table settings to sit in less visible and less trafficked parts of the cafe. And I suspect the cafe is a derivative of Salem Alliance, as there are many bible toting customers in the restaurant. Great coffee/breakfast place directly on the block we live. They have really good breakfast sandwiches as well as a large food menu for other dishes. Coffee has been hit or miss, one time it was great, the next time it was a sugar bomb. If they could get their consistency down they'd likely be the best coffee shop in town. read more
