Details: * the dining room is modestly, but appropriately, decorated. * the kitchen is easily visible from the dining room, so cleanliness and proper cooking techniques are on display. * the wait staff is friendly and attentive to customers' needs. Meal: * the daughter ordered a combo meal which consisted of egg flower soup, pork fried rice, egg roll and sweet/sour pork. All was satisfactory, and plentiful. * the missus and I ordered wor wonton soup, house fried rice, walnut shrimp and pork/garlic/eggplant. The soup broth seemed to be pork-based unlike the usual chicken or salt broth, but it was tasty. PLENTY of wontons, chicken, and shrimps with veg. The wontons seemed lacking in some flavor dimension - not unpleasantly so, but noticeable. The house fried rice was primo, including some 21/25 shrimp. The walnut shrimp was thumbs up: the shrimp was freshly battered and fried, the sauce was sweet but not too sweet (a problem with this dish) and the walnuts crispy. The pork/eggplant was also tasty, with fresh eggplant, sufficient garlic, and a pleasant chili burn. All in all, this Chinese restaurant sets the bar for the local brethren. Glad to have a good Chinese food restaurant in town. We ordered the salt and pepper calamari for appetizer. It was delicious and served with jalapeños which we love. Also got generals chicken, combination fried rice, pork mushu (selling?) and broccoli beef. These are some of our family's favorites and all plates impressed. White meat chicken, all served fresh and full of flavor. If this place maintains this level of quality it will be our new restaurant for years to come. The bill came to $61 bucks which is typical and we all get two meals out of the servings so glad to enjoy this place. I ordered it for pickup and it was ready to greet me as I walked in. Trying to figure out where all these 5-star reviews have come from?! You let me down, Yelp :( Had general chicken lunch plate to go and really wanted chow mein. Sucked I had to order an entire entree of it. Sucked even worse that it was the blandest chow mein I've ever eaten. I honestly wasn't sure if there was even salt added to it. I've had better frozen chow mein :( The general chicken had fantastic flavor but - as others have noted - the pieces were all golf ball sized or larger which was strange and unnecessary. The accompanying fried rice was mediocre but still good. Also ordered a side of gyoza (pot stickers) and this was THE strangest. Innocently inquired what style of ponzu sauce came with it (after placing my order) and was informed they simply provide the ingredients to make your own because they don't know how I might like mine. What the heck??? Sure enough, it came with 2 cups - one of vinegar and one of chili oil. She informed me you mix these with soy. I tried several times to get something - ANYTHING - one could generously call ponzu but totally failed. If you're going to do it that way (and why would you?!) at LEAST give me some sort of recipe with it. The pot stickers were *perfect* texture but the filling left something to desire. With decent sauce, these babies have serious potential. Have eaten at hundreds of Chinese establishments and have never seen pot sticker's ponzu done (or, uh, NOT done) like this. Overall very underwhelming and quite pricey. Was $50 for two lunch plates, an entree of chow mein and an order of pot stickers with two drinks. Ouch. Not sure I'll return. read more

Amazing food and excellent service. We have only ordered to-go from here and it's never failed to impress. Even purchased gift certificates for our house sitters who love the food as well. 1. Chow mein - perfect noodle consistency and coated well, no need for soy sauce. 2. Pot stickers - pan fried perfectly and taste like hand made dumplings not previously frozen. 3. General Tsao chicken - we ask for extra sauce and more than happy to accommodate. Best we've had to date. 4. Fried rice - not over saturated with vegetables, plentiful in it's serving. I have been a regular customer for about ten years now when they were located in Elk Grove. When they closed the doors in Elk Grove I had a panic attack. Where was I going to get the very best orange chicken I've ever had again. Well after some research we found that they have moved closer to their home up in Placerville. The new Iron Wok is now on main street Placerville. They have only been open about a week now and are working through the fresh opening and the smaller location but the food tonight was well worth the wait. I have never had a single thing at Iron Wok that wasn't GREAT! Only thing is I am so stuck on by far the best orange chicken I think anyone could make. They only use fresh chicken breast meat and it is always, always great. The orange sauce is also fresh and is to die for. The portions are generous for the price and I usually always have a little to come home with for a snack later. For anyone that is either from the area or just passing through should really give Iron Wok a try. It is family owned and operated restaurant and they have always been very friendly to us over the years. Sometimes when they are busy you might have a small wait but the wait is always well worth it!!! Have I mentioned that I REALLY love the orange chicken!! We stopped by last night to check out the new Chinese restaurant in town. This family owned restaurant operated in Elk Grove for 10 years before moving to Placerville. We were seated immediately and chose a table on the outdoor patio. Service was very friendly and efficient, and the food was great! We ordered the vegetable egg rolls, mu shu vegetables, and shrimp with garlic sauce. All of the dishes were fresh and flavorful. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, the vegetables had just the right amount of crunch. Servings were generous, so we'll have another meal at home. So, have dined here a couple of times now. The food is good. The service (pre-covid) was awesome, and I had no complaints. Though more expensive than the chinese place on broadway, it was fine. Post-covid was a little iffy. My impression was that they treated their customers as some sort of enemy invasion. Not welcoming, not friendly. If I wanted to be treated like a leper, I would visit my in-laws. I'm hoping that these folks get back to normal soon, and stop treating their customers as a foreign invasion. read more

Came back to try other dishes. BD loved their orange chicken. I love their beef ginger and scallion dish. Their beef is so tender! Chicken Mongolian was also nice but not really spicy and without the bamboo shoots it was just chicken onion and green onions. Fried rice was still bomb. And their wonton soup was delicious too! This place is alright, it seems like they are still getting their footing as they just opened. They don't have a beer and wine license yet so just soda and water for now. The food was pretty standard compared to most Chinese food places in the county. Seems clean, they have good plate presentation, and all ingredients seemed relatively fresh. The down sides were: the server was very hovering(may be symptom of it just opening though), I ordered the orange chicken lunch special and the chicken pieces were awkwardly large about golf ball sized pieces(I imagine this is the standard cut size they use for most of their tempura chicken dishes like this so this will probably be a common problem) lastly and most annoyingly they really bogart you from getting noodles. The only way you can get chow mein is if you order it separately, there's no substitutions! Any special or side your stuck getting rice that really isn't that great. I'll wait a week or so and see if they figure things out or not and report back. I'm really hoping this place turns out good because they're conveniently placed and I love Chinese food. But I'm not hopeful now because that one persons review on here said this place isn't 'new' it really just moved. So they probably aren't keen on changing at all. read more

I was extremely disappointed by this restaurant. I'm disabled and don't go out often. When I do, my service dog goes with me. My partner called ahead to let the restaurant know I'd be bringing me service dog with me and they said it was fine. After going to all the trouble of driving there, parking, getting out of the car, going inside, and sitting down the owner came out and told me me I couldn't have my service dog in the restaurant. She asked for paperwork. That's illegal. I told her what service my dog provides for me. Even though it's not required, I offered to have my dog demonstrate one of the services she provides. The owner wouldn't listen or allow a demonstration. She argued and said I needed to show her paperwork and have a vest on my dog. I explained that a person can easily buy a vest online and that it's illegal to refuse to serve someone with their service animal. She claimed she would be committing health code violation and get in trouble. I let her know I'd be submitting a report to the ADA instead. I left in tears. I understand there are people who bring their pets into restaurants and abuse with fake vests/tags etc. I'm not one of those people. I legitimately need my service animal for my disabilities. It infuriates me that restaurants refuse real service animals and disabled people like myself. Don't they know it's completely illegal to do so? I will never go back to that restaurant and I will never recommend it to anyone else, especially other disabled friends read more

So happy we did, this place is a little hole in the wall on main street! We came in & were greeted by a really nice waitress who's parents own the restaurant. We choose the combo specialities so they came an entree, side of steamed or fried rice, & egg roll, oh & choice of soup. For anyone ordering delivery from here, a courtesy warning that this restaurant does not include rice with their meals. I called the restaurant to let them know we didn't receive any rice. They said rice is extra and has to be ordered separately. What a joke! I've never had Chinese without rice. They were rude and said "these days a lot of Chinese restaurants don't include rice". It doesn't state that when ordering or give any options to add rice. I specifically even looked to to find out if we could add brown rice and couldn't find anywhere to order any side of rice. $50 for two meals, one appetizer and they can't give you a side of rice? The go to Chinese cuisine spot in Placerville After moving here from the B A where there are numerous good restaurants we have searched and tried over a dozen Chinese restaurants without finding anything with taste. The Iron Wok is it! Fresh flavorful hot and huge portions both take out and dining in. Can't wait until they start serving again both outside and inside dining.
