I have been a regular customer for about ten years now when they were located in Elk Grove. When they closed the doors in Elk Grove I had a panic attack. Where was I going to get the very best orange chicken I've ever had again. Well after some research we found that they have moved closer to their home up in Placerville. The new Iron Wok is now on main street Placerville. They have only been open about a week now and are working through the fresh opening and the smaller location but the food tonight was well worth the wait. I have never had a single thing at Iron Wok that wasn't GREAT! Only thing is I am so stuck on by far the best orange chicken I think anyone could make. They only use fresh chicken breast meat and it is always, always great. The orange sauce is also fresh and is to die for. The portions are generous for the price and I usually always have a little to come home with for a snack later. For anyone that is either from the area or just passing through should really give Iron Wok a try. It is family owned and operated restaurant and they have always been very friendly to us over the years. Sometimes when they are busy you might have a small wait but the wait is always well worth it!!! Have I mentioned that I REALLY love the orange chicken!! BEST CHINESE FOOD!! We've LOVED eating at Iron Wok since their location in Elk Grove, CA! We stop to get our Iron Wok cravings every time we go up to, or coming down, from Lake Tahoe! So, have dined here a couple of times now. The food is good. The service (pre-covid) was awesome, and I had no complaints. Though more expensive than the chinese place on broadway, it was fine. Post-covid was a little iffy. My impression was that they treated their customers as some sort of enemy invasion. Not welcoming, not friendly. If I wanted to be treated like a leper, I would visit my in-laws. I'm hoping that these folks get back to normal soon, and stop treating their customers as a foreign invasion. read more

We stopped by last night to check out the new Chinese restaurant in town. This family owned restaurant operated in Elk Grove for 10 years before moving to Placerville. We were seated immediately and chose a table on the outdoor patio. Service was very friendly and efficient, and the food was great! We ordered the vegetable egg rolls, mu shu vegetables, and shrimp with garlic sauce. All of the dishes were fresh and flavorful. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, the vegetables had just the right amount of crunch. Servings were generous, so we'll have another meal at home. It'll be even nicer when they have their liquor license, however its worth going for the food alone. Stop by and welcome them to Placerville! read more

I didn't want to drive to our usual spot so we tried iron wok probably should have drove the extra 15mins. Not all the food we order was bad but it definitely wasn't fresh. Came back to try other dishes. BD loved their orange chicken. I love their beef ginger and scallion dish. Their beef is so tender! Chicken Mongolian was also nice but not really spicy and without the bamboo shoots it was just chicken onion and green onions. Fried rice was still bomb. And their wonton soup was delicious too! Very simple taste but delicious and I can't wait for winter because I would order it a lot. Total for three entrees and soup came out to be around $50 read more

Take out option only. Everything was prepared quickly and to order. Nothing was greasy or overcooked. Shrimp and veggies requested without starch and that was a winner! Fried rice was very flavorful, not oily and packed to the brim in the box. Sweet and sour pork was also not oily, perfectly crisp and the sauce what I would come to expect for Americanized Chinese. This place is alright, it seems like they are still getting their footing as they just opened. They don't have a beer and wine license yet so just soda and water for now. The food was pretty standard compared to most Chinese food places in the county. Seems clean, they have good plate presentation, and all ingredients seemed relatively fresh. The down sides were: the server was very hovering(may be symptom of it just opening though), I ordered the orange chicken lunch special and the chicken pieces were awkwardly large about golf ball sized pieces(I imagine this is the standard cut size they use for most of their tempura chicken dishes like this so this will probably be a common problem) lastly and most annoyingly they really bogart you from getting noodles. The only way you can get chow mein is if you order it separately, there's no substitutions! Any special or side your stuck getting rice that really isn't that great. I'll wait a week or so and see if they figure things out or not and report back. I'm really hoping this place turns out good because they're conveniently placed and I love Chinese food. But I'm not hopeful now because that one persons review on here said this place isn't 'new' it really just moved. So they probably aren't keen on changing at all. read more

So happy we did, this place is a little hole in the wall on main street! We came in & were greeted by a really nice waitress who's parents own the restaurant. We choose the combo specialities so they came an entree, side of steamed or fried rice, & egg roll, oh & choice of soup. We choose orange chicken w/steamed rice & he had sweet & sour pork with fried rice! The portion are very generous & the service we received was great! I was extremely disappointed by this restaurant. I'm disabled and don't go out often. When I do, my service dog goes with me. My partner called ahead to let the restaurant know I'd be bringing me service dog with me and they said it was fine. After going to all the trouble of driving there, parking, getting out of the car, going inside, and sitting down the owner came out and told me me I couldn't have my service dog in the restaurant. She asked for paperwork. That's illegal. I told her what service my dog provides for me. Even though it's not required, I offered to have my dog demonstrate one of the services she provides. The owner wouldn't listen or allow a demonstration. She argued and said I needed to show her paperwork and have a vest on my dog. I explained that a person can easily buy a vest online and that it's illegal to refuse to serve someone with their service animal. She claimed she would be committing health code violation and get in trouble. I let her know I'd be submitting a report to the ADA instead. I left in tears. I understand there are people who bring their pets into restaurants and abuse with fake vests/tags etc. I'm not one of those people. I legitimately need my service animal for my disabilities. It infuriates me that restaurants refuse real service animals and disabled people like myself. Don't they know it's completely illegal to do so? For anyone ordering delivery from here, a courtesy warning that this restaurant does not include rice with their meals. I called the restaurant to let them know we didn't receive any rice. They said rice is extra and has to be ordered separately. What a joke! I've never had Chinese without rice. They were rude and said "these days a lot of Chinese restaurants don't include rice". It doesn't state that when ordering or give any options to add rice. I specifically even looked to to find out if we could add brown rice and couldn't find anywhere to order any side of rice. $50 for two meals, one appetizer and they can't give you a side of rice? The go to Chinese cuisine spot in Placerville After moving here from the B A where there are numerous good restaurants we have searched and tried over a dozen Chinese restaurants without finding anything with taste. Iron Wok is a quaint little place that's easy to find and semi easy to find parking. They have their own parking lot but very little spaces. Upon arrival the place was clean and we were seated right away. The dishes we chose were fresh with good flavor. I was impressed that for a Chinese Restaurant, they carried decent wine. We chose a Boeger red (thank goodness we didn't have to drink Sutter Home!) Service was friendly and fast and the price range is fair.
