Visiting Placerville again and wanted Chinese for dinner. My son had heard good things from co workers about Hong Kong Inn, a glance at Yelp confirmed it to be our choice. We ordered on the phone. We ordered general chicken, broccoli beef, sweet and sour pork, fried rice, chow mien, egg rolls and soup. It was ready upon arrival. Total coming a bit over 80 dollars. It was a ton of food!! Everything was good. I can't imagine they could have done anything better. So, 5 stars.

8/7/2025: It's been well over 1-1/2 years since, I think I last ate at Hong Kong Inn. Actually, the last enjoyable dinner I ate was with and before my Mom passed away . . . Sad. Anyway, I'm elated Hong Kong Inn cooks their Chinese Cuisine akin to Kowloon, Macau, and Singapore Chinese Cuisine: Hong Kong Inn emulates Singapore's AWESOME Hawkers Stands' Cuisine which I just love inhaling! Aside, it's been too sizzlin' hot slaving over an electric range preparing my meals, i.e., I opted ordering dinner inhaling at Hong Kong Inn AND ordered more than an ample supply of leftovers where I will have enough inhaling for four days--nuking a small portion of leftovers for lunches and dinners. Reiterating, a beautiful plan I devised, indeed: I ordered Four Seasons, House Fried Rice, Wor Won Ton Soup for leftovers meals while intentionally inhaling just small portions, i.e., a small bowl of Egg Flower Soup, House Fried Rice, Four Seasons dining at Hong Kong Inn, and slurping a glass of ice tea.

The bean curd (tofu) dishes are all amazing! Large portion for a great price, I order a side of white rice to eat it with

Since I was coming down the hill after a day hike in Placerville, I stopped by Hong Kong Inn to grab takeout to celebrate New Year's Eve. I was not in the mood to cook dinner and remembered this restaurant was nearby. The food was pretty good, Americanized Chinese style. They cook without MSG which I appreciate. I ordered the chicken fried rice and tangerine chicken. The fried rice was fantastic. The rice was light and fluffy with absolutely no oiliness. Very clean tasting. The pieces of chicken were cleanly cut pieces of light meat. The tangerine chicken was good. It was not overly sweet since they do not use HFCS sauces or MSG. The coating was not over floured and the chicken was moist. The menu has a hot chili pepper next to the tangerine chicken but you can ask for it to be cooked mild. Still yummy either way. The interior is a bit outdated but clean. The folks that work here are so darn kind. Another great thing about this place is the lunch ~$10.50 and dinner specials ~$13 are offered every day, not just on the weekdays.

Lots of yummy tofu options. My favorite is the General Tso tofu. Good, greasy chow mein. Very casual, unassuming place. Easy parking.

Great food and service - it's our go to Chinese food place in Placerville. The egg rolls are to die for along with the won ton soup!

Ask the Community - Hong Kong Inn

Are they dine in now?

Yes. HKI limits five guest parties, i.e., five couples only may dine inside the restaurant: The distance between guests are spread out throughout the restaurant's dining floor plan which typically allows over forty guests dining; however, IMHO,… Read more

The kitchen is very accessible so you can literally hear and probably watch them (if you choose to look) prepare your food which I thought was pretty cool. There's no reheating here; all of the food is prepared on demand. My daughter and I each ordered a special combo: one Mongolian beef and one orange chicken. They were both delicious and the portions were very generous so we ended up taking some home. I strongly recommend supporting this restaurant. The food was great and service was very efficient and friendly.

Iron Wok was special, then the pandemic hit, and the dream started to fade. Well the new owner has challenges, I had to send my Orange Chicken Lunch plate back. It simply was not edible for me. The chicken was rubbery, perhaps a fact of too much heat in the cooking process. It felt like I was eating a ligament, not a piece of white meat chicken. My wife's Kung Pao Shrimp was nothing great but edible. Service was acceptable, place was clean. But the food won't have me coming back. The fine art of great food is a gift, some have it, and some don't.

We arrived a few minutes after 3 pm, when the restaurant opens for dinner. As you can imagine, we were a large group who were all hungry and ready to eat. We decided to go with the family dinner (special B) option that gives you the choice to select about a dozen menu items to share family style. This option also comes with soup, pork fried rice, egg rolls and fried shrimp for $18.50 a person. The ambience was quiet and similar to many other Chinese restaurants. They have booths and tables for smaller parties and larger rounded tables with a Lazy Susan for larger groups. The service was great. I was surprised how quickly all of the food came out. One plate after another, and suddenly the table was packed with hot food ready to eat. Everyone working was friendly and attentive, filling our cups with water, providing extra napkins, and checking on us frequently if we needed anything else. Oh, and the food was so good. I particularly loved the fried rice, broccoli beef, orange chicken, and Mongolian beef. To be honest, all of the food was delicious, but those stood out to me from the other plates we ordered. There was so much food that we couldn't eat everything, so we had plenty of takeout boxes to take food home. For the price of the family dinner options, you can't go wrong with a great price and the amount of food you get. It's very much worth it. If you are with a large group of friends and find yourself in Cameron Park, I highly recommend coming to China City to eat. You won't be disappointed. It's a hidden gem tucked away in a strip mall off of Highway 50.

It turns out they were all waiting (not long) for takeout orders so we had the place to ourselves. We were warmly welcomed and since we had already checked out the menu and what's good in advance on Yelp we ordered the Pork and Chive Dumplings and the Chicken, Shrimp Potstickers and hot teas. Thanks to a mirror on the counter I had a good view of the bustling activity in the kitchen. Soon we had our piping hot food and it was delicious. We planned to eat half and take the rest home but it was so good we had nothing left. Service was great - we were asked several times how we liked our order and if we needed anything. The space is spare but very clean and we had no trouble parking. We will be back!

It would be much better if they offered them in smaller quantities, maybe 3 or 5, so we could share some different types instead of having to have so much leftover. I did like the sauce, it had a nice kick. Where the order disappointed was the other items. We got sesame beef, sesame chicken, and house fried rice. The fried rice had little flavor. The beef was tough and the chicken was basically inedible. It had so much breading it was soft on the outside. And the sauce didn't have a sesame flavor, more like a sweet and sour. The sesame beef sauce was totally different. Very disappointing for a neighborhood favorite.
