Plan ahead apparently they closed early today for no reason and if you're driving from far away and you plan to be here and have yummy food. It's super frustrating to get here only to find them clothing shop early. Nothing on the door as to why. 40 minutes early 2:20 at least. In general, I really love their food. I love the ambience. Located outside the immediate downtown of Placerville, but not too far, Thai Unique is worth the drive over. It's got its own parking lot and spacious seating. When I visited on Fathers Day, i arrived just as they opened for their dinner menu (which starts at 4.) 3 other parties arrived shortly after and another 5 or 6 takeout orders were being picked up. My point being, this place is popular with locals! Nice decor and ambiance made it a pleasant experience and the food was excellent. I ordered the tofu and veggie ginger and a side of rice. My boyfriend got their pineapple fried rice. Portions were generous. It was on the pricey side for dinner, so a definite splurge but they do have lunch specials until 3. Make note they do close between 3-4 if you plan a visit, Overall, a solid choice in Placerville and while I don't come to this area often, I'd opt to dine here again. read more

Paid $19 for stir fried veggies to go, no meat, arrived home 25 minutes later to eat and had a soggy, boiled to death container of mushy watery vegetables. Went back and they told me its because of the steam that accumulated after they put a lid on it. Refused to remake or give me my money back, we frequent there and I literally can't believe they said there is nothing they could do? I have owned a restaurant in this town for many years and would never treat a customer in such a way. We will never go back and neither will my several friends. The basil rice was absolutely delicious with strong notes of basil in it. I couldn't help but notice the building was for sale. I hope this restaurant is still around after. Great price for the amount of food you are given. When calling in for takeout for the first time you have to pay over the phone with a credit card before you can place an order. Okay after two years we thought we'd give it another try. Since we live in Placerville and normally drive to Folsom for Thai. We walked in at noon. The place was virtually empty. One customer was bent over the counter waiting for service. I looked into the restaurant and an older couple were sitting there looking at their menus. I asked them if they had been helped yet? Our go to for Thai in Placerville. Consistently good food, friendly staff, would recommend to anyone. My only "complaint" is they don't make anything particularly spicy, I always order "double Thai hot" and assure them I do want it genuinely spicy, and the result is what I would get if I ordered "medium spicy" in the bay area. This is a decent spot to stop off the 50 on the way to/from south lake. Food is fine, some dishes are better than others, but nothing memorable. The service was good. The biggest downside is the deteriorating condition of the dining room. We were sat at a corner booth with huge tears in the vinyl cushioned bench, along with a few other similar things throughout the restaurant. Will we be back? Found this place 5 years ago when I moved to the area. We have been regulars since. I like the decor of the restaurant, and the big booths. The food is amazing! My favorites are the spring rolls and chicken satay appetizers. The drunken noodle with chicken (spicy), or yellow curry with chicken if I don't want spice. Service has always been friendly! Unfortunately I would stay away from this place. If you do not like the food they don't care if they make it incorrectly they don't care. You get a three-page contract you have 5 minutes to complain if you do not complain within the 5 minutes you cannot return the food they will not help you. Also they take 20 minutes just to check on you. So good luck with that. Bad taste bad customer service bad all around. I've been here twice, obviously not learning my lesson from my first experience. I ordered tofu pad kee Mao on both occasions and was very disappointed. First thing wrong is that it was not spicy at all. I'm not a huge spice fan, but this literally had no spice to it. Second, they bearly give you any noodles. And this is a noodle dish!! I got maybe half a cup of noodles and what i did get was severely overcooked and falling apart. Poor taste, poor cook, very disappointing. On walking in, first thing I noticed was that me feet were sticking tot he floor at every steps as well and my friend that was with with me. Felt like a greasy kitchen floor, where every step you took you had to peel your feet off of it. We sat down to a dirty table and had to ask for it to be wiped down. they did so promptly. Normally, when you order a curry it comes standard with rice. NOT HERE. They charge you extra for rice at dinner. When asked about it. they mentioned rice is only included with lunch. This makes no sense. Their lunch was almost the same price and portion. Paying close to $20 for dinner for a curry dish, One would think you shouldn't need to pay extra for rice. Prior to leaving I used the mens rooms and promptly turn around and left as the Floor was completely wet everywhere from a leaking toilet in there. On Thursday we attended my sister's wedding rehearsal lunch here, she had previously visited and loved the place! They decorated her party area beautifully and there was an abundance of food! In addition the restaurant was decked all out for the holidays, so it felt very festive as well! We had the staff take a pic of my mom, toddler and I in front of their beautiful Christmas Tree and I took a photo of the bride and groom under the romantic lit up intertwined hearts! When we arrived all the platters were out ready and displayed nicely! It was buffet style so we were able to come up and choose our items, I platted a variety of different entrees. The Potstickers were hot and fresh, Jasmine Rice plentiful, Fried Spring Rolls, nice crunch and flavor, Thai Fried Rice, yum! The Pad Thai had a distinct peanut flavor and the noodles were perfectly cooked, I quite enjoyed it! The Yellow Curry with Chicken was probably my favorite out of everything I tried! The coconut milk was sweet, a nice spice that gave it that extra oomph and the potatoes and carrots were cooked just right and complimented the chicken perfectly! The Thai Salad was amazing, I loved the flavorful dressing and everything tasted very fresh!! To end our meal our server brought out Fried Banana with Ice Cream and Sweet Sticky Rice for everyone to share! The delicious sticky rice was formed into a heart and topped with colorful sprinkles, two scoops of creamy ice cream and wonton like crisps with banana inside! The dessert was perfectly romantic for my sister and her now husband! They were the first Thai restaurant in Hang Town Placerville, which opened in 2011. I came in early on a Monday afternoon right after opening and the service and food was impeccable. I got a papaya salad and the yellow curry and both were so incredible. The kind waitress brought my water and food out very quickly and the owner even came and checked on me! I feel like this place should be so much busier than it is, and I really hope to see it more crowded in the future read more

Went to Thai Unique last evening for dinner. They were super busy which is always a sign of a good restaurant. In fact, they were so busy that they ran out of forks and were waiting for some to come out of the dishwasher! That made me smile. Restaurants were hit so hard during COVID restrictions that it makes my heart glad to see them come alive again. In the midst of an unusually busy evening, the service remained just as attentive, the food came out in a timely manner, with the same quality we have come to expect from Thai Unique. The food is always very tasty and the portions are large. I saw everyone leaving with leftovers as it is more than one can eat in one sitting. I am looking forward to having the leftovers today. I got the pad thai and my boyfriend got the red curry with beef. The red curry was good: the flavor was pretty strong, and the veggies were tasty. However the beef was overcooked and chewy. I disliked the pad thai, because it seemed to be cooked with some sort of tomato sauce- maybe even ketchup. It tasted like ketchup to me, at least. It significantly overwhelmed the flavor of the dish, and I wasn't able to finish it. We shared the mango sticky rice for dessert, and I thought it was alright. We didn't like the taste of the rice very much, but it was cooked well and the mangos were ripe and sweet. Overall, somewhat disappointing taste-wise. Service was good, but the AC is broken, so be prepared to sweat if you're going during the day. read more

We did 2 chef specials: cashew nut with chicken and pineapple seafood curry. White rice and sticky rice. And the pot sticker appetizer. We celebrated our anniversary here, and the staff was so sweet and accommodating. It was a little slow for indoor dining (given the Covid restriction was listed) but they had take out orders to go. We ate inside and everything was spread out and clean. The curry was so good and the seafood was tender. The cashew nut chicken was hearty. Good portions for two people. Service was fast. Flavorful but not too spicy (unless requested). I'm glad we found our go to place. It's a nice change from the plentiful options of burgers and pizzas in the area. My partner and I recommend. 10/18/2018: Thai Unique reminds me of my month-long 2007 residency living in Bangkok, Thailand. The deliciously, haunting smell of Thai food wafting through the air projects me to where I once lived down a few blocks from the "C Market Shopping Center" where you can devour all sorts of Thai delicacies to your heart's content. THAT's Thai Unique! I ordered from Thai Unique's menu, food items I ate while living in Bangkok: Food I craved were the seafood stew soup, the spring rolls, and the spicy seafood medley-ALL were exceptionally, surprisingly delicious. BTW: I casually mentioned to the Waitstaff I have a low tolerance for spicy food so, I requested the spicy seafood be at "kiddy-level" which the Waitstaff giggled~LOL! Upon receiving the food served, I was happily inhaling but, I hit a brick wall: My stomach was too full now . . . Gotta take a to-go bag for all my leftovers! First time here last night. Tried the Lemongrass Chicken entree and it was a good choice! I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture Being a chicken snob, I am very picky about my chicken. This boneless skinless chicken was marinated in lemongrass then grilled to perfection and moist inside. The amount of chicken was substantial, and piled high upon a bed of perfectly cooked broccoli florets and covered with delicious peanut sauce. This is the first time I have ever said this, but I would have liked a little more spice in the sauce. I never thought those words would be said by me! Overall delicious and a great value for the price. Spring Rolls were also good. Crisp not greasy and the filling was very tasty. Will definitely go back again when in town read more

Old diner turned into family style Thai restaurant. My family member had suggested a visit while in the area, which is hard for me to say no to any Asian food. I also believe it is one of the few Asian restaurants around, so it has sort of cornered the market. Plenty of parking for this restaurant, which shares its lot with other businesses. As mentioned above, this seemed to be a former diner, so plenty of space for large parties and or private-ish meals. The staff is friendly and willing to help with any allergies, which is a nice touch. We ended up ordering Satay Chicken, Fried Spring Rolls, Pumpkin Curry, Beef Stir Fry, Pra Ram, and a round of Thai Ice Tea. Everything was fresh and quite tasty not to mention quick service, which is sometimes worrisome if your food comes out too fast, but not here. As for the quantity, expect to be filled upon leaving, so big props to them for not skimping on that aspect. One dish stuck out above the rest and that was the Pumpkin Curry, supppper tasty! So it does not stop there of course, expect wallet friendly prices, everything together was around 60ish dollars, which is a steal! I am glad that I am not a local as I would spend way too much time here, as it was quite delish. If you are in need of some tasty Thai food and in the area, this should be a no brainer. read more

It's a large place, nicely appointed and decorated and the beef pad thai was pretty good, large enough, perhaps a bit overpriced, also quite good service and convenient parking and location. There's one big problem though, for the elderly or handicapped in that the restroom had only one stall open and the other which I assume was the one for the handicapped was taped up which made it seem a bit permanent, and leaving a toilet that would be very difficult to manage for quite a few people. It took a very long time for the food to come out but I think it was worth it. Thai Unique offers delicious food and has beautiful ambiance. My husband and I came here for date night. We both had curry and it was delicious. We also enjoyed a Thai tea and the vegetable tempura. One thing I want to mention is the tray with a variety of spicy peppers and sauces. If you like heat, I highly recommend the tiny Thai peppers in fish sauce. I live just a few minutes away and am so lucky to get their delicious food easily. It's quite a small and cozy little restaurant. The owner is VERY sweet. They had a new chef in the day who kept making my lunch dishes WAYYY too spicy even though I'd request mild. I can handle spicy stuff quite well, but this was simply inedible. After the second time I called after work (which was close to their closing time) and she was super awesome about it.
